《Ode to Freud》Extra Chapter 10: Fatherly Worries

“Are they sleeping already?”
“Yes.”
“Ok.”
Alice sat in front of me. Sincerely… I knew Alvin was a special kid, but to have this kind of problem…
We may have overlooked the seriousness of this.
Alvin is definitely an abnormal.
I’m conflicted.
My whole life people have taught me the abnormals were monsters wearing human skin.
My whole life I have been against them.
I have screamed of joy at the executions. I have thrown rotten food on them. I have thrown torches on their houses.
I was one of those people you could call the mass.
Until I came to know my wife.
Alice is the daughter of a long-lived race. A woman which is an abnormal by birth.
And I just fell in love with her.
It was immediate. The moment I looked at her it was as if a voice said in my head: “It’s her. The one made just for you, and for whom you have been made to.”
I don’t believe in voices, of course.
I know Marie believe in them, but this is beyond being a criminal. It’s death penalty material.
What I believe is that I was wrong.
I was totally wrong about the abnormals, and that is why I want to protect my house.
When Ann was born we were ready to deal with the potential problems. She may inherit her mother’s capabilities and be also an abnormal by birth.
We taught her when she was ten.
About the things we usually don’t talk home.
And that is when she decided to become a knight.
Of all things, a knight.
I opposed that with all of my strength, but she was irreducible.
Jacen should learn about those things when he completed ten as well.
But Alvin…
Alvin is too abnormal, even for an abnormal.

We don’t know if Alice’s youth will be passed down to the three of them, but Alvin has a lot more than the usual.
No… all three have more talent than usual.
Ann’s willpower is way above average. Jacen’s as well.
And All…
What he doesn’t have in terms of willpower he has in everything else.
He never got sick. He never cried. He never got hurt. Alice told me she was worried multiple times “what if All hurt himself with the knives? What if he hurts himself with the needles?”. But he never did it.
He was talking and walking from an extremely young age. Today even, he talks as fluently as Ann. Jacen is far outpaced by him.
And the training he came up with… those are just basic training formats, but he came up with it by himself.
So he understood everything we taught him about aura. He understood the whole principles being a three years old.
That is just too abnormal. And in the worst possible sense.
My son is an abnormal of mind, soul and body. That is too much, even for the people of such a backwater village as this one.
We will need to do something about it.
We will need to get Marie involved in this. Of all things we could do, getting her to take part in this kind of thing is the one which makes me more anxious.
But we have no other alternative.
Simply ignoring It can be catastrophic.
“…Pa?”
“Yes Ann?”
“What will we do now?”
I looked at Alice. She was terribly anxious. She is holding her skirt even.
I place my hand on top of heirs.
“I think we should get your mother to help us.”
“I… I think… I think as well.”
“It’s ok. We will get through this.”
“It’s all my fault. If I hadn’t insisted so much in living away from her… or if I had kept my vow!”
I held her in my arms.
“I’m glad you didn’t.”
“I’m sorry.”
“You don’t have to be.”
We headed to Marie’s house.
