“Lee?”
Mei began to grow worry. She walked towards Lee bed. Lee’s bed was neatly made. The blanket folded below the pillow, the pillow looked like no one slept on it, and not even a faint smell was on the bed. Mei brows furrowed together. She began to grow anxious to find Lee.
Suddenly a small white pale arm stretch from underneath the bed grabbing onto Mei ankles. Mei was not scared by the sudden moment, she bend down to look under the bed. There she saw Lee’s cute face smiling towards her.
“Hehe, did I scared you mother?” Lee who was now three years old was crawling out from under the bed.
“Silly child, how could you scare me? Come, today your uncles will begin your training.” Mei held Lee little hand and they both began to walk to the main hall. As they arrive, Lee can see Uncle Ro, Uncle Mu, and Uncle Feng waiting for them.
Mei wanted Lee to start his training early. If Mei didn’t catch Lee practicing in secret, she would have waited till he was four before they can begin. Mei can’t help but smile at Lee. She was happy to know that he was a genius at a very young age. Able to speak very well, able to read books that are made for adults, and able to cultivate early.
“Lee you will begin your training with your Uncles. However you can only choose one of them for now. When they feel that you have satisfy their requirements, only then can move onto the next uncle and learn. Choose wisely Lee you only have three years before your Aunt Rei comes backs. She and I will personally train you.” Mei voice was very stern but there was a hint of pride as well. If Lee can pass his uncle training in three years, then everything will fall into place, and Mei will not need to fear at the gatherings of the dragon clan.
Lee nodded and stared at his three uncles. Lee began to think. Uncle Ro is a cockroach, his duty was to patrol the mountain in case any humans, wild beast, or even demon dare to approach their home. Uncle Feng, is a chief, he usually go out to hunt some meat, gather berries, and tend to a small garden in the cave. Uncle Mu babysit Lee and sleeps. Though he doesn’t know what type of training that they will give him. Lee can’t help but contemplate on the choice he has.
After the time it took for twenty breath, Lee made his choice.
“Uncle Feng I choose you. Please guide me” Lee gracious bowed to the fat bear.

Uncle Feng eyes lit up. He was honor to be the first teacher for Lee that he push his agenda of making a cake to the top of his to do list. Uncle Feng quickly escort Lee to the kitchen quickly, in hoping he would not change his mind at the last second.
Uncle Feng grabbed a stool for Lee to stand on, so that he can see what he was going to do.
“I will teach you what many people always fail to teach their pupils. Controlling Qi and Qi Manipulation.” Uncle suddenly put on a serious face. The around the two began to change. Suddenly it was warm.
Lee began to see a small white mist coming out of Uncle Feng body. Silence filled the room. Not a half second has pass, and the silence was broken when Feng grabbed a knife, Lee didn’t notice how Feng was going to hold a knife with his paw. But as Feng held the knife up in the air, Lee saw Feng arm was same as a human. Lee had forgotten that when a divine beast reach a certain cultivation level, they can morph their body and change it to look like a human. However in some cases, Ancient Beast can turn into a human regardless of their cultivation level though they were rare, and rarely reveal themselves. Mei’s clan was one of the few.
Uncle Feng began to grab a carrot and started slicing them. His movement were quick and precise. Within one breath, the carrot was cut. Uncle Feng then started on the potato next. With the knife he peel away the skin. Just like the carrot, Uncle Feng’s movement was quick, accurate, and above all smooth. In just one breath, he was able to peel the entire skin in one attempt the skin look flawless, no potato bits was on the skin.
Lee was in awe. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing, it’s as if every food the Uncle Feng cut, peel, or chop was like a rough jade being refined into a smooth radiant jade.
Uncle Feng continue for half an hour. Then he look at Lee. He saw a cute child face beaming with curiosity.
“Cough” Uncle Feng slightly blushed.
“Lee from now on, you will be using whatever you harvest or find in the mountain for your training purposes. You are not allow to use any other tools, beside this knife I am holding. I will show you the method to refine and control your qi within your body. The rest is up to you to learn how to grasp it and use it efficiently and effectively. Only by being able to closely match to what I had just done will I consider that you have pass my training.” Uncle Feng, then point his finger on Lee forehead. Suddenly a rush of images flow in Lee’s mind.
Lee began to feel overwhelm by the knowledge that instantly rush into his head. However he endure slight fatigue feeling, and try to understand how to control and manipulate this Qi.

Lee didn’t attempt his training. For three days, Lee began analyze and experiment with controlling his qi in his body. He could feel that moving his qi to a specific point was easy, but being able to refine it for a long period of time and maintain that aspect was extremely difficult.
“Okay, first attempt.” Today Lee felt confident as he stared at the carrot in front of him. With the knife in his Lee, he began to focus and concentrated the all of his qi into the knife. The qi force in Lee began swirl rapidly, under Lee command it surge swiftly to his arm.
Lee faced began to turn red. The easy part was controlling the qi, the hard part was controlling the output of it. The qi waver as is slowly take shape around the knife. It began to expand and contract. Lee was determine to get it under control. After half an hour of shaping the qi, Lee began to start chopping the carrot it front of him.
As Lee chop the carrot, he notice each slice was rigid where the blade cut. The cut was not smooth and it was not cut straight rather it was slanted. Time pass quickly, every day Lee would spend at least two hours trying to cut the carrot skillfully and two hours restoring the energy in his body. Little by little his qi within his body began to expand growing stronger and purer each day. Lee didn’t realize the breathing technique, that he thought was useless, was actually a profound technique that absorb nature qi, refining it into pure qi and condensing it into his body. Lee went from first stage of Qi cultivator to fifth stage in less than three month.
Thanks to the profound skill [Breath of life] Lee was able to grasp the summoned qi under his control. He was able to cut the carrot accurately and most of all it was smooth and straight, flat like paper. The hard part was the potato peeling. Uncle Feng lecture to Lee that controlling the qi was easy. Manipulating it compare to controlling was like Heaven and Earth. In order to manipulate Lee must be able to control it, after he complete that step, he must learn how to change it shape. The peeling the potato was one of the difficult change. It had many ridges and the outer was quite bumpy. Most of all Lee cannot have any potato bits on the skin.
To manipulate the qi, even though it has envelop the knife outline, was much harder than controlling the output of the qi and its structure. Time and time again, Lee would try to change the qi shape but maintain the knife only to have it disperse into thin air. Causing Lee to become more fatigue as he kept putting more qi into controlling and manipulating it.
In order to get the knife to peel the potato skin perfectly, Lee had to shrink the qi on the knife. By focusing the middle part of the knife and having the qi move along the knife but not spreading entire knife was the first part. The next part was getting the qi down to a microscopic level, and bending the tiny qi in hope that it will take shape. Lee continue to practice, he even repeated his previous lesson cutting the carrot to gain further enlightenment. Although Lee was three years old, he had absorb qi at an abnormal rate. For a mere child to have broken through from the first stage to the fifth stage would have taken five years. If they were a genius two years. But Lee wasn’t a normal child, in fact thanks to the environment and his training at age one. Lee had progress at a rapid pace.
Half a year have pass, Lee had grown taller he was now two feet and five inches. His skin became pearl white, if he was to lay down in the snow. Even Mei would not be able to find him, unless she use her spiritual sense to find him. Lee had gotten faster and better at controlling his qi. He had finally master manipulating his qi within second, though it exhausted him, since he had to output more qi, but he was happy to know that all his effort finally paid off.
“Uncle Feng. Uncle Feng. Look I finally done it.” Lee showed the cutest smile that a child could possibly show. Feng look at Lee potato skin, though it was a bit sloppy and there were some bits of potato on the skin, it was a passable grade. He had watch Lee chopped carrot to peeling potato. Feng could not feel proud.
“Alright you have passed, however don’t get cocky. This is just the beginning, this is consider child plays in expert eyes. You have yet to condense an actual weapon without the assistance of the any object that you will wield. By being able to create a weapon out of pure qi will take years. Not only will it tax the body heavily it will require immense focus and enormous amount of qi. Once you create the weapon out of your own qi, it will be stronger than any other weapon, beside those [Artifact Weapon].” Uncle Feng gave a serious lecture to Lee, in hoping he would not be overconfident and do something reckless in the future.
After hearing [Artifact Weapon] Lee began to grow curious. He have not been to the library in ages. He wonder if he can find any information on it. However as of now Lee need to find Uncle Ro, which Lee has chosen as his next teacher.
Hoping that Uncle Ro's training will not be as mentally taxing as Uncle Feng. Little did Lee know Uncle Ro's training was the worse.

The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.
