Start of Chapter 2: The New World

After dinner Rebecca scurried off to her room. Leaving me to the clean up as per usual.

I took the time while cleaning to think of what has happened in the past three years starting with my ex-wife.

Her cheating and death lead to a few inconveniences for me and my daughter.

First and foremost was the fact it left my daughter with one less role-model in which to find a way to live her future.

My sister tried to pick up that role and was able to teach her some things a father... well yeah.

I suppose Rebecca blames me for her mothers death.

She seems so angry towards me at times and then as if forgetting why she is angry is somewhat tolerable.

Well i suppose that's a burden I will bear so she won't have the happy memories of her past taken away.

I can live with hatred but...I fear she would hate us both and completely cut herself off.

I had finished and was heading to my room. It was in the farthest reach of the home away from the other 3 rooms. One of those was for Rebecca and the other two were for guests or Storage. With connected bathrooms for each room.

I entered my room to find it as i left it earlier that day. My desk a unkempt mess of papers and thick volumes of historic manuscripts. My walls were fill wish novels, may be fact or fiction they lined my shelves.

In an empty nook to the far left of the room was my Capsule that I bought in secret when i got my daughters. Hers was a simple white while mine was a sleek black. It cost double since I use it to have longer to read and work. i had downloaded to it my library and quite a few more scriptures i needed to write a thesis on in order to pull in some money for my daughter's college fund. And i like new toys like these capsules and the game I had bought my daughter and I.

It is the first of its kind. A completely new world my magic and might. Begone science and welcome the mystical and unknown. The creators of the game took ideas from novels, manga, and in some areas comics to game a more complex and harder to beat game. Which was at the moment about to launch it's Online status.

I opened it to see a black gel like material that formed to the contour of your body that would send signal to your muscles and brain so as to help with muscle loss in hardcore players.

I lay down and started the capsule.

"Do you wish to start Shattered Memory or go to your Library?" I pleasant female said.

He found himself in a white void.

"I wish to enter Shattered Memory." I replied.

Everything around me started to shimmer as if a mirage. My surroundings had changed, it seems i was floating above ground being held there by some unknown force.

"Welcome to New Avalon. May we start with your Avatar creation Wayward Soul?" I deep voice penetrated the silence that was before.

"Um, sure." I hesitated. This was odd, felt so real and yet I knew it was not.

The air in front of me shimmered. And out of the air came my doppelganger.

"Damn, I seem to have aged even more...and I lost more hair. Well I suppose I can fix that now."

"I am right that if I tell you what I want you can manage to change my appearance to that right?" I said out loud for the voice to hear.

"Yes,and I'm not just a voice I am the God of this world."

"Oh,Neat. Let's get started then."

"Ok. I believe I am finished with my get-up." Alex said with a sly smile on his face.

He had my a few minor changes with his physical body. As in reducing the fat that plagued his sides known as "Love Handles" and made his gut more of a straight line. He wasn't fat it just gave the illusion of too many Twinkies or too long a time at his desk. He kept his bushy beard that went down to his chest, while he thickened the hair on his head and added length.

The muscles tone was increased a little as not to make him look to much like a warrior but more closer to someone in very good shape.

His height was the same though, he thought about decreasing it. But 6'5" *1.96m* was suppose to be a good height. He made his hair go back to that of his youth in color. A dark blonde that in that past few years greyed out making him look old.

But now before him stood his younger counterpart. The spitting image of his youth *with a couple embellishments*. The eyes though he considered his only truly nice feature.

"Do you wish to change the your Race? We have two other races available at the moment." The God asked me. Two other bodies shimmered into existence right next to my human form. They looked like me but...not.

Once was a pretty elven male with less of a beard and just a stubble of one. He had pointed ears and high cheekbones, with fair skin.

"Is this guys suppose to look like the beard woman after a shave?" I asked the God.

I heard something akin to someone trying to hold back their laughter and failing. Then I heard two voices this time. One was the deep voice and another was more female voice but it still had the intensity of the voice of the God.

"I'm not that funny..." Alex thought while scratching the side of his beard. He started to look at the shorter fellow on the other side of his human form.

"Hmm... a dwarf. Looks like Gimli from the Lord of the Rings movies." he thought to the backdrop of the laughing gods who seem to be getting a hold of themselves. " Truly odd beings theses AI gods... Note to self do not go to church in this world...too many crazies.

The laughter had just ended. " I have decided to stay human and male...don't want to meet my daughter in the game and proceed to have an awkward conversation." They snickered at that.

" Alright. With that you are almost done with creation process. Now we need a Name and a place in which to send you.

"Can't think of one...why don't you throw me one. And we can see if it fits." There was silence for a few seconds. Then the female voice squeaked out. " Call him Lews!"

Alex raised his eyebrow. "Um...miss i do not believe i have not earned the title Kinslayer."

A young girl whose age I could only guess to be is 9 shimmered into existence a few feet in-front of me where the dwarven body use to be. At the same time a older man most likely in his 70's materialized next to her.

The older man spoke." I am sorry if she might have insulted you. She seems to just blurt out whatever comes to mind if asked." He finished look down to the little girl. She was wearing a white robe that fluttered around her naked feet. She had her hands scrunched up and covering her chin.

"No it's fine. He was a good man until his arrogance lead to the taint of Saidin and then his madness that broke the world...anyway why not try again?" Alex said smiling toward the young child.

She squirmed thinking of another name. " uh...What about um... Smeagol." she whispered.

Alex smiled .

"Kyoki!"she shouted angry at his smiling.

He stopped smiling. "Yeah, that should work." He was rubbing the top of his head thinking.

"I have heard that work before..."

"Alright now that is done its time to send you down to the New Avalon!" The man shouted and smiled at the transaction that had just transpired. "Which town or city do you which to go?" he asked Alex.

A map started to materialize in front of Alex's vision. " Anywhere is fine." he said before the map began to solidify. " I really do not want any knowledge of this world before I start." he thought as the map vanished before he spotted something he recognized.

"Shit hope that wasn't what i thought it was." Were his last thoughts before a flash of intense light engulfed his senses and blacked out.

---------------------------------

*As the light faded I found myself floating once again. This time the content was laid before me. To my east a large forest with little villages dotted throughout being connected by a large snake like river. To my west were planes. They were barren for what I could see. Ah, and to the south where villages nestled next to the ocean. And to my north was a mountain. Or a better description would be a tower, the likes our world with its technology would never achieve. It looked to be a beacon to those who were lost. As the sun shone from west to east this grand marvel of the gods.*

-------------------------------------

Speaking of Gods the little girl from before stood in front of him.

“Hello there.” Alex said with a hint of questioning.

“ Hey.” The little goddess said with red cheeks.

“ I hate to be rude but where am I?” And why are you here. I wanted to add but hating to be rude to the young thing.

The young goddess answered after a few moment seeming to fight with herself on how to answer.

“ Well you see.” she paused and seemed to try to squeeze out of her skin. “We need a envoy on Avalon and you so far seem nice and laid back.” She mumbled the last part.

“Oh...um...I’m not religious.” He said a little shocked.

She got real red when I said that. Her whole head went cherry red. “I hope she is alright.” Alex thought.

He watched as she started to tremble and started to become hazy. Her body started to transform into a woman with blue-silver hair, grey eyes and very kind portions. She seemed to now looked to be in her mid twenties.

“You seem not to be able to take me serious in that form.” She said in a enchanting, more mature voice than what it was before.

“I don't take many people serious, anymore.” He said adding anymore after a quick pause hoping she didn't catch it.

She heard it. “Oh, really?” She asked with an eyebrow cocked up.

“No, I just say that to every person who goes from a kid to a woman faster than i could say ‘Jail bait’.” Alex said while keeping a straight face.

She didn't get the joke. “ What is jail bait?” as she asked she turned back into the kid before with doe like eyes as if begging for a answer.

He seemed unable to keep himself from laughing. “Ha haha ha.” ‘Damn my damnable mouth!’ He thought.

She jumped a little due to the sudden outburst of laughter. And then proceeded to get angry.

Well lets say when he stopped my laughter I pulled a Wile E. Coyote…

Looking towards her he saw she was angry... For some stupid ass reason he looked down. And pulled out a sign saying “Sorry” then fell to the forest below.

As the wind rushed past his face a couple of blue boxes popped up in the corner of my vision. But he was busy trying to think of a way to survive the fall.

“Damn it there is no way.” Alex thought. “Might as well try and go out like a badass.”

So he aimed his head down with his arms to his sides and tried to rocket down. That worked in that he was gaining speed to my inevitable death.

Alex shot through the trees and at the last moment curled up and yelled “CANNON BALL!!”.

*_-_*

*KaBOOOOM*

A explosion could be heard throughout the forest. The small animal scurried off to their homes while the larger hunters went to their mates for comfort. This was not a matter they should never intervene in.

“Huh” he mumbled as he opened his eyes.

Alex was trying to figure out how he survived that fall. And soon looked toward the blue boxes in the corner of his vision.

“What the hell…”his thoughts as he looked over his skills and new class.

Once again the air before him started to shimmer. This time it was the older man who appeared before him. He was smiling showing white teeth. His back was now bent and a white beard masked his features.

“Good to see I was able to grant you Immortality before her temper killed you.” His once deep voice now held less power and was weaker than the last time they spoke.

“Are you alright.” Alex asked worried. He liked the old man;he seemed nice.

“Oh just fine. Used a little more power than use too doing.” He said with a sad smile. He walked over to a boulder and took a seat, winded. He waved for Alex to do the same.

As Alex began to sit down the old man began to talk once more. With some of the power back in his voice.

“As you have noticed you are now a Immortal. Which for the most part means you can not be kill.” The air next to him began to shimmer as a table appeared with a pewter jug and two cup of the same cheap make.

“Want some?” he asked as he began to pour himself a cup of a clear liquid.

“Sure.” Alex was parched.

The old man finished pouring the two cups and picked them up. As he picked the cups up the table disappeared and the old man handed a cup to Alex. Alex began to gulp it down and nearly spit it out when he found it not to be water.

“God this shit burns!” He thought as he finished it.

“That was the nectar of an ancient tree long since extinct… it burns like a son of a bitch.” the older man said as he finished his cup.

“It also unlocks your magic potential.” he said with a off-hand gesture.

Both cups disappeared. As the old man began to take the form he showed earlier.

“Now to business.” he cleared his throat. “ My name is Baerlain. I am the god of Life and Death. And i bestow upon you the title and abilities of an Immortal.” Baerlain said with a serious tone and manner. “You have the ability to choose your path unlike we of this world.”

Forlorn sadness shown in his eyes. He disappeared leaving Alex sitting in the crater of his crash.

Alex began to scan his surroundings trying to remember all he saw of the landscape during his encounter with the young goddess.

He started to crawl out of the hole he made. And to his surprise he was just on the outskirts of the forest.

He scanned the forest edge to see if this racket drew any predators to his location. None seemed to be present, but that meant nothing.

“What the absolute fuck!” Alex roared yelling up toward the sky. Splitting the few clouds in the blue noon sky.

*For a new character you must log out in the Town you started in.*

*One hour later*

Alex was sitting against a tree deep within the forest. Its trees varied between pine and fir. He could see giant redwood in the distance.

“What type of person will i be in this game now that I am for the most part a god character?” He thought while he took in the sights around him. He loved the subtle beauty of nature in the real world and it seemed to transfer into the game well.

“I tend to pick being the good guy...I’ll try that out for a bit and see how much fun that will be. Might get some..” he stopped his thought as a shadow moved. He opened his inventory screen by thinking of it. Inside as a canteen, five loaves of bread and a cheap looking dagger. He equipped the dagger.

*You have Equipped*

Dagger of the Newb!

1-5 Damage

Alex went into a low stance with the dagger pointed down. A lone ragged black warg stepped out of the shadow, teeth bared. A low growl left its throat.

Alex and the wolf started to circle each other. Alex smirked. The wolf jumped fangs ready to tear into him.

He grabbed the wolf by the throat and pulled their faces closer.

“Are you hungry you stupid bitch.” he whispered in a deadly tone. As the wolf tried desperately to escape the grasp of it’s captor. Alex unequipped his dagger and balled his other fist.

“If you don't stop i will break you stinking neck and feed you to some other wolf.” he said in a tone of complete seriousness.

*Crack*

“I warned her.” he said in a cold voice. He re-equipped his dagger and began to skin and butcher the ragged black warg.

He had learned these skills some years ago from a man who lived a life of seclusion. *This man will get a better explanation at a later time* He picked these skills up just in case he and his team or family got stranded during an excavation.

“These blue boxes are a pain. I wonder...” Alex said as he finished placing the skin and meat within his inventory.

“Open Options.” He said out loud.

A menu appeared. “Turn off blue notification boxes.”

‘Ding’

“Close Options.” the options closed and the blue boxes disappeared with it.

“Alright, time to get going.” He thought as he trotted off.

Away from the crater, deeper into the forest away from civilization.
