《Lost in a Magical World》Chapter 4.6.2: The city walls

It took them about two hours to get to their destination, and Angela decided that next time she will allow Paul to accompany, Alex's infrared vision helped them navigate safely, Angela had tried to use the binoculars to see if she wild animals before they were near, but using it while walking around in a forest proved to be a bad idea, she had almost tripped.
They stood behind the tree line to make sure they were as concealed as possible, there was a 500 meters clearing around the city's outer wall.
When they took out the binoculars Alex asked "Are you guys seeing this?"
"Yeah" Paul answered, his voice coming from the watch.
Angela would really have liked for them to have Bluetooth earphones, but it wasn't the case. when they asked Alex if he had some earphone he simply answered he is usually alone in the shuttle, so, he hadn't thought to bring any.
The city walls were massive, what were they protecting themselves from? Was it war, or was there some type of wild beast so scary that they built those walls? If so were those wild beasts in the same forests as them?
"Can you jump that far up?" Angela asked, trying to see if it was an option
"In my best day, I can jump fifteen meters straight up maybe sixteen, that wall is 3 times that height." That thought itself was scary
"How much weight can you lift?"
"My people can lift many times our body weight, it's not as high as Lycans but its close. On average Lycans are 20% stronger than us. As I said, my people were stretching the definition of human" he was right about that
From their location it was possible to see that the city is massive. The tall walls surrounding it and their position made it impossible to see inside. The main gate was located in their side but it pointing a little to the north. It is probably because there is a wide road that comes from the north.

They could see a few guards, some outside but most were inside and only occasionally popping outside to talk to walk around or talk to the ones outside. The guards were carrying swords, there was even one that was carrying a bow and what looked like a quiver of arrows attached on his hip, if those are real and not just some weird reenactment then this world seemed dangerous.
Alex pointed the parabolic microphone towards it and they strained to hear something. After a few minutes of this he concluded that they were too far away and they were not speaking much and when they spoke it was not loud enough to be picked up by the microphone at this distance.
After about half an hour of observation what looked like a carriage came from the road, an actual carriage like in the old west movies, but what was more surprising was the horse. Angela has never seen a horse in person, but she is sure that normal adult horses should be about the height of a person. The carriage was being pulled by a singular horse, but the horse was big, really big, it was eve taller than Alex, a lot taller, she would guess about two and a half meters tall.
"That is not a normal horse" she said in awe at its size,
"It's a war horse" Alex said to her
"What is a war horse?" she asked, because that answer didn't explain anything
"It's one of my people's earliest genetic creations while we were still on earth" he explained
She could see that he was very focused on the horse for some reason "Why is it called a war horse?"
"I have no idea, since as far as I remember it was never used for war, probably someone just thought it would be a cool name for it" he answered

"But the way they look, I would assume them to be very good for war" she answered, trying to find a way explain the naming convention
"We have spaceships, if we need to go to war, we have better means of transport" he said "But, if these people are really as technologically primitive as they seem, its name could be appropriate here." She agreed but if things are so dangerous here that they need the to use swords and war horses they need to be very careful in how they interact with these peoples.
"Do you have weapons on the shuttle?" Angela asked, now very concerned with their safety
"No weapons of any kind, unless you count forks and the few knives we have" he answered simply
"Why not? Shouldn't it be standard or something" she asked. She has to admit that she is basing her assumptions earth's fictions, but shouldn't all interstellar ships have weapons?
"I don't know what you think of us, but my people live in a peaceful society, it has been this way for over two thousand years. There was a time that a group of wanderers tried to become space pirates, but it didn't end well for them." He explained "weapons powerful enough to be mounted on ships would do more harm than good in the hands of civilians"
"Well, need to be very careful when interacting with these people, I don't want to be skewered" Angela voiced her thoughts out loud
"Well, the best option is to observe them for a while" Paul said over the comms
When the horse got near the gate, the guards started talking loud toward the carriage, they could hear them now, and they were speaking in a language they had never heard before.
"What language is that?" Alicia asked
"It's Lanti." Answered Alex "At least this confirms that they are somehow my people, even if they don't look like it"
To Angela this was somewhat exciting, aside from Alex this was her first time seeing an Alien civilization
"What do you mean they don't look like it?" Paul asked
"Well, they are all small, like earth humans, unless they only choose smaller people for guards those don't look like my people" He answered
"Are you saying that everyone of your people is a small giant like you?" Angela asked
"I am of average height, maybe a little bit shorter than the average, but not by much" He answered. Angela tried to imagine how it would be like for her to visit his world and her imagination conjured up funny images her of walking in a land of giants with everything supersized.
"How would that be possible? They speak your language"
"I have no idea how any of this is possible" Alex answered honestly
They spent a few more hours watching, and were able to learn somethings, like the fact that at midday it was busier than other times, but mostly, they learned that they would need to get into the city to learn more. And it seems they will need to also learn to speak his language
"You'll have to teach us your language" Angela said
"You can simply use the same program I use to brush off my English. It's a standard program that can teach you any language as long as it has the language profile loaded. Well it has both Lanti and English's language profile, so, it can teach you Lanti"
She was definitely start using that program as soon as she got back to the ship
