《Eternity's Wake》Chapter 42

Corwin gathered a team for the 10-man dungeon. The team had 3 tanks: The Bear was a Warrior best at tanking physical enemies, Silencer was an anti-mage best at tanking magical enemies and Venture was a knight, who was moderate at tanking both physical and magical enemies. This led to a configuration where depending on enemy The Bear or Silencer would be the main tank and Venture would be the off-tank. If there were no physical enemies, The Bear would play as a mediocre DPS. If there were no magical enemies, Silencer would do the same. We went with the unusual configuration of 7 DPS and no healer. This was because both summoners had summons that healed. It was also because I knew the nature of the dungeon and burst damage was more powerful than better healing. The DPS on the team consisted of 2 summoners (Arthos, Kyo), 3 Swordsmen (Guildenstern, Demonblade, Corwin) and 2 Elementalists (Gomorra, Alice). We would have to make sure no one died in early fights as the major disadvantage of our party was not having resurrection spells.
It was a good team, but our main problem was gear. Corwin discussed with the team and as a group they decided to raid normal difficulty first. If they cleared it successfully, the first clear achievement would give them additional runs for hard mode and then hell mode. If they group couldn’t clear it successfully they wouldn’t clear a harder difficulty anyways.
On the way to the dungeon everyone was in high spirits. It was time for gear to catch up with the massive level boosts they had recently gained. We discussed strategy and focused on keeping everyone alive. This meant DPS’s had to be careful so that the tanks could keep priority for heals. The summoners would play as healers first and DPS second. The swordsmen would have to be careful about AoE attacks, while the ranged attackers would be able to purely focus on DPS.
Corwin entered the normal mode of the dungeon bringing the entire party in. The frostfang dungeon featured cold enemies. We fought ice elementals and frost giants. The bosses were straightforward as the party was equal to normal mode. Between the first-clear chests and bosses we obtained a plethora of bronze level 20 equips, and the occasional iron level 20 equip. Iron level 20 equipment was roughly equivalent to silver level 10 or gold level 5 equipment. This was a better standard than most of the party had. Even the bronze equipment was sometimes useful as not everyone had silver level 5 equipment. The highlight of the haul was a level 20 iron recipe for a plate armor. We had 6 plate armor classes on our team, and everyone except Corwin wanted this armor piece. We cleared the dungeon without difficulty and triggered a nice announcement.

Congratulations to party Righteous Destiny for the first clear of a normal difficulty team dungeon in Eternity’s Wake. Rewarding 100 guild reputation, and 500 guild experience.
Congratulations to party Righteous Destiny for the first clear of a normal difficulty team dungeon on the Asterith continent. Rewarding 50 guild reputation, and 250 guild experience.
Before raiding hard mode we headed back to town and I made 5 plate armors, giving one to each of the swordsmen, the knight, the antimage and the warrior. This resulted in negative GCPs for some of our members which necessitated a discussion with Kyo. We were fine with this as a temporary solution to raid dungeons quickly but didn’t want it to become a norm. It wasn’t fair to other members that GCPs go negative and if we made it a standard practice everyone would want loans for better gear.
We returned to frostfang dungeon in hard-mode and we were adequate to the challenge. Guildenstern and Venture died on the last boss, but that wasn’t a problem for clearing as there weren’t any fights after. Once again, the first clear chests and bosses provided some nice rewards. This time the default was iron equips and we got the occasional silver equip from triggering lucky drops. The highlight of the haul was a level 20 silver amulet recipe, something I could make for the entire party before we raided hell mode. Upon clearing we triggered a nice set of announcements.
Congratulations to party Righteous Destiny for the first clear of Frostfang Dungeon in hard mode. Rewarding 1 dungeon pass, 40 guild reputation, and 200 guild experience.
Congratulations to party Righteous Destiny for the first clear of a hard difficulty team dungeon in Eternity’s Wake. Rewarding 200 guild reputation, and 1000 guild experience.
Congratulations to party Righteous Destiny for the first clear of a hard difficulty team dungeon on the Asterith continent. Rewarding 100 guild reputation, and 500 guild experience.
We decided to take a 1 hour break before hell mode. I used time manipulation and manufactured 34 silver level 20 amulets and 25 iron level-20 plate mails. For my efforts I got the following notifications.

Congratulations to Corwin Swordborn for being the first in Eternity’s Wake to reach Journeyman Jeweller. Rewarding with 1 Jeweller’s Tools (Silver Tier) and 160,000,000 XP.
Congratulations to Corwin Swordborn for being the first in Asterith to reach Apprentice Jeweller. Rewarding with 1 Jeweller’s Medallion (Iron Tier) and 80,000,000 XP.
Congratulations to Corwin Swordborn for being the first in Orleans to reach Apprentice Jeweller. Rewarding with 1 Jeweller’s Belt (Bronze Tier) and 40,000,000 XP
We once again let people go negative on GCPs as we handed out 9 silver level 20 amulets to the other members of the party. Kyo was somewhat concerned about this, but everyone promised to do guild quests straight after the dungeon raid to help clear the balances. I knew we needed the equipment to take on hell mode so I was fine with it. Once everyone was ready after the 1 hour break we prepared to ready hell mode.

A Sinner's Eden
The Earth of the future is united under a single government, but not all things are well. The shape of the playing field may be changed, but the powerful still rule the weak. And those who do not conform with the rest of society are exiled to another world. A world that not even the technology of the future managed to tame.It should have been humanity's New World but ended up as nothing more than a penal colony. A place where the exiled are sent to die. Motivated by revenge, Magnus sets out on a quest to bring his own justice to his enemies. For that purpose, he is willing to go further than most others. But then he learns that if he truly wishes to change things, he can only find his answers beyond the gate. Having lived most of her life as an exile, Astra is a woman of few interests aside from survival and climbing the ranks of her clan.To achieve those goals, she certainly won't be squeamish when a chance literally falls into her lap, or will she? ——————————————————————————————— I am trying to go with a survival/medieval setting in this one. People from a technologically advanced society are thrown into a world where they can't maintain their tech. They are forced to rely on medieval technology where they have to make do with the limited resources they have and what little of their old technology is still working. Their gene manipulation allows them to have something akin to superpowers, but that doesn't help much against the monsters of their new world. Not sure yet whether sufficiently advanced technology will be discovered later on to count as magic. ——————————————————————————————— Author's Comment: I was asked about reading my work on other sites. The answer is simple: Currently, I am not active in any other networks than royalroadl.com. Only here, I correct mistakes and errors. If you read it anywhere else and have to pay for it or have to deal with an annoying amount of advertisement, You Are Being Betrayed. You would do good if you make other people in that network aware of it. This is a free project of mine for the purpose of having fun. And if people try to make money with it you shouldn't bother visiting their website. The only one whom I actually allowed to have my work on his website is Armaell who invested the time to compile them into pdf. (http://armaell-library.net/author/andur)

The Dreamside Road
Five years after the world fell into chaos, a treasure of artifacts is up for grabs. The relics of the Dreamside Road offer a power that could help rebuild or annihilate what remains. Orson Gregory is an adventurer for hire, but hunts this treasure for answers, not glory. Enoa Cloud’s late aunt helped hide the Dreamside Road, but following in her aunt’s supernatural tradition offers her as much peril as power. Together, Orson and Enoa battle a magic-obsessed militia, clash with a host of rivals, and face constant adventure on their journey to find the Dreamside Road. *Updates Monday and Friday The Dreamside Road is now on TopWebFiction! Vote so people know this exists. _____________________________________ NOTE: The Progression tag applies specifically to Enoa. Also, fair warning, that element doesn't enter the story until she begins her studies. Content: Main characters range in age from teenagers to people in their thirties and older, but it will not contain gratuitous violence or explicit sexual content. It also won’t shy away from implication, anything to make this story and its world feel more real. Characters will freely allude to potentially triggering topics, including living with a disability, facing terminal illness, coping with trauma, surviving societal destabilization, and the consequences of bigotry. At its most intense, the Dreamside Road is a hard PG-13. Worldbuilding: This is not a story with a lot of early exposition scenes, conveniently explaining ‘magic systems’ and political dynamics. Readers will learn, progressively, as the characters do. This story/world has a ‘magic system’, or rather, a set of systems, but the effort to quantify and understand the truth of the setting plays a role in the backstory, as well as in some character motivations. In that same vein, not every character has a firm grasp on the nature of their world, and not every piece of dialog from every character should be taken as entirely truthful Worldbuilding. Also, this isn't the softest Sci-fi. There are at least some basic explanations given for various elements, but Royal Road does not give me a spectrum to choose from. Given the choice between hard and soft, let's just say The Dreamside Road won't be cited in any college Physics papers. Setting and Theme: The Dreamside Road walks the line between fantasy and science fiction and deals with finding one’s place in a changing world. Many of the characters in this story are United States natives and the story begins in the United States, my homeland. However, knowledge or interest in this country is not necessary to understand the story, especially as it progresses. Also, as this is a novel that deals with societal collapse and while that damage may be widespread, in story, I don’t want to overstep and critique the culture of others’ unless I have particular knowledge in a given area. Ultimately, the Dreamside Road is American in the same way Harry Potter is English, fantasies that do not have a full secondary world, but with enough original elements to fully diverge the setting from our the real world.
