《Eternity's Wake》Chapter 41

Corwin entered the game and passed control of the guild warehouse to Kyo. He then went to the guild store to withdraw the profits. He started a journey to Lyonate, a neighboring city in the Verdure Kingdom.
He took the road through a mountain range, taking advantage of the mana runes laid down to prevent monster intrusions. The view was breaktaking, but Corwin wasn’t here to enjoy the view. On the other side of the mountains was Lyonate. Corwin went to the land office to buy property, selecting a lovely property near the town square. He then built a shop. Lastly, he stopped to recruit for both the merchant guild and his player guild. Recruiting for the player guild was unsuccessful, but Corwin found crafters to staff his new store easily.
From Lyonate Corwin continued on to Delphine, which was a similar story. From Delphine, he continued to Marmos. In Marmos, he recruited a single valuable player for his guild; Arthos was a Tier 5 existence in his past life and he’d be a capable Summoner for the team. Kyo now had some serious competition. Corwin started to hire merchants to deliver items and recipes between the various stores in the kingdom, he didn’t want to have to repeat this journey often.
From Marmos he went to Valset. From Valset to Edenburgh. In Edenburgh, he recruited two valuable players, both former tier 4 players. Gomorrah was an elementalist while Venture was a knight. There were a number of good former tier 3 players in the city as well so Corwin chose to build a guild house on a 2nd property in Edenburgh. The guild house allowed the guild to recruit 50 additional players. Corwin added 20 players he suspected had high potential, including all the former tier 3 players he knew. With 20 players, they’d be able to accomplish all but the largest quests. The remaining slots he saved for adding powerhouses around the map. Corwin continued his journey while Arthos, Gomorrah and Venture relocated to the capital to participate on the main guild team.
From Edenburgh he went to Prast. From Prast he went to Divonia. In Divonia, he recruited another former tier 5 player, Guildenstern. Guildenstern was another swordsman, which worked well since Corwin didn’t need to compete with him for equipment. From Divonia he went to Losair. Losair was the largest city in the Verdure kingdom, and the player base reflected that. Corwin recruited well and built the 3rd guildhouse in the city. The highlight of the recruitment was Alice, the snow maiden. She was a former tier 5 player on the cusp of Tier 6. The snow maiden was an elementalist who specialized in ice. More impressively, she had completed a hidden challenge in Verdure and already had the water legacy. Corwin was ecstatic to add her to the ranks of the guild, she was possibly the best player Corwin had recruited. They conversed after the recruitment.

“I hope you will travel to the capital, and join the guilds main team. You would be a valuable contributor there,” Corwin said.
“I’d rather remain here and finish my quests,” Alice replied.
“What quests do you have?” Corwin asked curiously.
“Water Elemental’s tomb and a few minor quests,” Alice answered after a brief hesitation.
“I know that quest and it rewards mostly equipment. If you come back to Rensworth we can go power levelling and that equipment will be obsolete.”
“I normally prefer to do things on my own,” Alice answered.
“You’re part of a guild now. You should learn to work in a team,” Corwin persisted.
“I suppose you’re right,” Alice reluctantly conceded. “I’ll head to Rensworth,” she continued.
Corwin hoped she’d get less standoffish over time. He didn’t want to have to do much handholding. Perhaps once he helped her level up to 20 things would change. Regardless he had two more cities to visit in the Verdure Kingdom.
On the way from Losair to Montdale Corwin encountered a hatchery. He wandered off the road to find its exact location. It was a level 35 demon hatchery so he wasn’t ready to face it now, but he planned on returning soon enough. In Montdale, Corwin built a shop but wasn’t able to fully staff it. He was missing a forger from his potential recruits. Finally, from Montdale Corwin continued to Estuchea. In Estuchea, Corwin recruited another Tier 5 existence, a 3rd swordsman for the team. Demonblade had the fire legacy and would eventually be known as ‘The Flame Swordsman’. Corwin was amazed at how much of a difference conquering the level ranks and leading the world announcements had made. Recruiting was easy, with all the best players looking to join. Very soon, Righteous Destiny would become a superpower in the Verdure Kingdom.
Corwin and Demonblade travelled together from Estuchea to Rensworth. Corwin liked the flame swordsman a lot, and not just because of talent. Despite the demonic moniker, the man had a gregarious personality. His talk and banter made the hours go by. When they had nearly arrived in Rensworth, Corwin found another demon hatchery, this one level 30. It was again something he’d note for later.

Upon arriving in Rensworth, Corwin met up with his new powerful guild members. He’d take Demonblade, Alice, Gomorrah, Guildenstern, Venture and Arthos levelling.
On their own they had each reached a powerful level 9. But Corwin, took the party to hunt level 25 monsters. Corwin handled the monsters easily, but the rocket ship had been seriously nerfed. The monsters awarded 512,000 times as much experience as a level 9 monster, instead of the previous approximately 33 billion times as much. Level 10 came quickly regardless, but as they reached higher levels the levelling began to slow down. At level 19, the monster only gave 400x as much experience. Split six ways this was like getting 67 level 19 kills for every level 25 monster killed. Level 20 was a large level and normally took 4 days of monster grinding to pass. At the expected 1 monster a minute this was 4800 kills. It took almost 3 hours for Corwin to kill the 108 monsters that made up this level. But he’d caught his new recruits up to speed with the main party. It was time to raid team dungeons for equipment.

Far Strider
A college student finds himself transported into a strange land with burgeoning magical powers, and is taken in by Ned Stark. Will he sink or swim in this medieval society, and will he ever get home? ====================== OC-insert without knowledge of Game of Thrones, new planeswalker. Slow power ramp. Second crossover: Star Wars (around chapter 39). ======================= As a note, I started this as a speed writing challenge to myself. The challenge was successful, and I managed 100,000+ words (as well as some character sheets in excel and such) over 10.5 days. Then I had to stop and let my hands recover from their burgeoning carpal tunnel syndrome. The story currently stands at around 150,000 words (or ~550 RRL pages) over 54 chapters; expect a chapter a day until I've caught up with the backlog. The focus of this story was not quality writing, and that hasn't changed. I mostly use it as my semi-guilty "I need to write something, but am not focused enough to write something good" story. Expect self-indulgent writing in general, and a bit of OP (or, well, more than just a bit if we're being honest), especially later in the story as the protagonist matures into a more full-blown Planeswalker. But if you're looking for something with a power-ramping protagonist romping around the place, something you'd be a bit embarrassed to admit liking (I know I am) but like anyways (and come on, this is RRL, so that probably describes just about everyone here who actually has shame), then this may be a nice bit of mental junk food for you.
