Chapter 17: Don't Trust Your Eyes

Volume 2 Chapter 4

Paul's group 40 minutes ago

"Damn why did we even let that drunkard bitch join our party, I hate Gabriel sometimes, he nearly gets us killed by the king, he insists we go after the villagers and Lucreille dies because of it, and now recruits a drunkard bitch who attacks allies. Why are we letting him act as leader?" Anastasia says clicking her tongue

"Hey Gabriel only went after the villagers because I asked for his help Lucreille's death is on my hands.

How did he almost get you killed by the king you're heroes aren't you, why would the king try and kill you? tell me the story please...

And recruiting Dia also falls on my hands and Shiro's as well as he defended her as well, I do have mixed feelings though if she will attack us, she is more of a wild card than I expected." Ares defends me

"Anastasia you know as well as I do that we would have helped the villagers regardless of Gabriel accepting to help Ares, as for almost getting us killed by the king I agree he is a bit stupid sometimes but because of his act we ended up with 4 weeks instead of just one, if he hadn't made an uproar we would be standing in front of Fyra right now and were barely level 5-10 excluding Gabriel who is in his 26, so we would be really fucked. I have grown to like Dia just don't insult her and im sure you two will get along fine." Paul laughed

"I still think he is too foolish to be our leader, if he keeps making bad decisions he is going to get one of us killed, it fills my stomach with disgust but I believe you would be a better leader Paul." Anastasia says while frowning

"Hey come on guys tell me the story with the king." Ares says to Paul and Anastasia

"Haha alright I'll tell you, if you think Gabriel is cool and calm all the time then you're gonna be quite surprised at how crazy he is" Paul laughs

"So he was asking the king how many times people from our world were summoned and killed by the king's guard as they refused to fight, and the king sounded so arrogant as he mocked the dead heroes that he abducted from our world, he trained the heroes and gave them a week before sending them to their deaths at the hands of the angels, which would imply they were trained but hadn't even gotten to level up so they were level ones with fighting experience." Paul said with a groan as he felt sad knowing that Shiro's family may have been earlier heroes.

"Those who chose not to fight or abandoned the mission were hunted down and executed by the King's guards or assassins... he didn't really go into detail, but because the king didn't believe the angels could be beat with only 4 heroes left the rest were executed, if a hero died while on the mission the rest of the heroes were also executed, anyways Gabriel yelled at the king and Anastasia and I tried to shut him up, but when the king responded to Gabriel telling him to watch his tone, and then the king insulted the previous generations of heroes calling them useless stacks of shit or something like that, Anastasia and I tried to scare Gabriel into not saying anything however it didn't work and Gabriel called him an impudent king, and an asshole king and then I punched him in the stomach to make him shut up but by then it didn't matter as the king ordered us to be seized and executed." Paul says again with a sad expression

"Oh what happened next!" She yells with sparkles in her eyes as if she was so excited

"He got down on his knees and begged for mercy and the king forgave him" Paul said with a straight face

"What, no way Gabriel would never do that!" Ares yells back at Paul and looks at Anastasia expecting a different answer

"Don't look at me like that, Paul is telling the truth, Gabriel got down on his knees and begged for forgiveness." She giggled when she repeated Pauls lie

"You're both liars!" Ares yells at us

"Yeah, Gabriel looked at the king with eyes full of resolve and says 'The cycle will never end if you kill us now oh impudent king, I promise you if you give us 1 month we will show you how weak the angels are!' The king accused him of lying and he stares the king right in the eyes and says ' at me oh great king do I look scared to you? I have fought and killed many! I survived over and over again after every battle and I didn't survive on luck it was skill! I stared death in the face many times and still I am here, Do you see the confidence!'" Paul said smiling

"Gabriel has to have balls the size or bowling balls with the way he bluffed the king, the king decided to stop our execution and give us a month along with 1 of his best guards to make sure we didn't run." Paul says laughing

"Did you just say he bluffed the king?" Anastasia says as she crushed the half eaten fruit in her hand

"Oh shit he never told you... this is bad, please don't hurt him too badly." Paul had a worried look on his face

"Don't worry I am just going to beat him within an inch of his life, I am sure Dia will heal him right up afterwards... But that would mean the first creatures he killed were the goblins?" She asked after talking about beating me down

"Yeah, it's strange he is 20 and has never seen any real combat as he is a student, yet fights pretty well with a cool head and comes up with some alright strategies... it's pretty weird." Paul says thinking about it

"He told me he was scared of heights but you told me that he jumped off a cliff into the Vitas-Moria's mouth... that isn't something someone who has a fear of heights can do easily." Ares comments and tilts her head as Paul's face looks like he can't process all of this data

"Well maybe he is just an adrenaline junky and gets his kicks from doing dangerous things." Anastasia says while shrugging.

The group had to go through a forest as the mountain path stopped and the forest began

Paul was shot back and hit a tree a couple meters back, however there was nothing there, it confused Anastasia and Ares as they had no idea what had just happened and they readied up grabbing their weapons

"Wow that hurt I feel my blood flowing though this is gonna be fun!" Paul steps through some dust that had risen from has clash with the tree, with his blade drawn and a piece of bark on his shoulder.

Paul regroups with Anastasia and Ares

Paul had wondered if he was attacked by a long range wind spell as there was no distortions in the air and no movement on the ground, he was slightly confused but kept his eyes open

When suddenly he was hit again and thrown up into the air, however this time he caught the impact and wrapped his arms around it, it was clear that this was an existence and not an energy like air or wind. however it didn't matter as he couldn't get a grip of it and lost his holding and fell to the ground, it was close to 10 feet so when he landed on his back he was out of air and he had a headache.

"Shit, it's an invisible enemy as I could wrap my arms around it!" Paul shouts

Paul is hit forward this time and rolls on the floor, as Anastasia and Ares run to him they are both swatted away from each other and they roll in opposite directions collecting dirt however no blood had been she yet.

"Shit how did it hit you guys too, it must be really fast!" Paul shouted again

He then got up and started swinging his blade in all directions cleaving at the air hoping to hit the invisible enemy

"What are you doing Paul, if you swing randomly like that it will just hit you in..."

"Argh damnit" Paul moaned in pain as he had been hit in the back while he was cleaving his sword at the air

"Told you! don't swing randomly trust in your inst... Uggghhhh!" Anastasia was trying to explain

how to fight them however she was hit while she was in the middle of her rant

"Haha I wonder if Gabriel had to deal with any invisible fucks!" Gabriel shouted

"Shut up and focus!" Anastasia shouts back

Ares had been separated from the other two and was heading back to the group when she felt an attack was coming from her side she jumped sideways and when she felt the air from the invisible attack touch her she grinned but it disappeared pretty fast when she felt an impact on her back and the next second she was face first on the ground and then she felt something grab her leg and begin dragging her

"AWwwwwwwwww help me!" Ares shouts and Paul and Anastasia look over and see Ares being dragged

"I got her" Paul says as he rushed in her direction but gets swatted away

Ares turned around so her back was on the ground when being dragged, bent herself forward and stabbed her short sword into the invisible being and purple ooze spilled out and the grip got tighter and she screamed again "Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhh"

she was being dragged slower now so she stabbed it again and that was when she was lifted off the ground and held in midair, she kept stabbing it and more purple ooze kept coming out but a sound was finally heard from the creature.

"Kwakkkkk" accompanying the sound something occurred

"Shit it won't let me go!" She shouted as she was covered in purple ooze and held about 10 feet from the ground hanging in front of a tree a sound of something creaking was heard.

"Kreeeaaaaaa" a space appeared out of nowehere and this space looked like an arbiter from halo, as its mouth open in 3 directions and inside was a small green tentacle which seemed to be the tongue and a deep hole that lead into some kind of abyss, the inside of its mouth was covered in spikes that would impale anything that went inside. The green tentacle wrapped around Ares leg and was going to pull her in but she swung her sword and clink the sword was repelled, the small green tentacle hit something hard...

Ares screamed again and started crying "Uwaaaaaaaaah I don't want to die to something like this!"

Anastasia and Paul had their hands full but they both used their skills when they saw Ares was in real trouble

"Singularity" Paul shouted directing it to appear on the opposite side of the creatures mouth, pulling Ares and the bleeding purple thing.

{Vrrrrrrrrrr} his singularity activates and starts sucking Ares and objects into the center of the singularity

"Shadow Master" Anastasia activated her skill and waited a second for all of the marked shadows to infect all other shadows they touched, in a forest it was definitely cheating as every part of the forest connected.

Anastasia waited for the singularity to expire as if she had attempted to appear next to Ares she would only get sucked into the singularity.

so after another 3 seconds the Singularity exploded

{Kuuuuh}

Anastasia appears on top of Ares and uses Sousei Nir to cut through the oozing purple thing, with one quick stab a hole appears and the inside of the thing is shown, the inside was covered in purple ooze however there were tendons as well as muscles inside, after her attack the thing released Ares, the thing shrieked and moaned in pain and anger.

"You guys better not... tell Gabriel... I was crying!" She yelled at Paul and Anastasia as she wiped away her tears

"Hahaha we won't." Paul laughed

"Kwaaaaaaaaaaak Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii"

Gravity took over and Ares and Anastasia feel 10 feet to the hard ground, the thing flickered as it was in pain and the invisibility broke, what the group saw was a really big chameleon hugging a tree with a pyramid type thing on its back, that had lines indicating it opened in three directions and two really long tails coming from its tailbone area.

"Kwaaaaaak Riiiiiiiiiiii" It screamed at the three of them and then a series of screams began all around them.

"Kwaaaaaaaaaaaak" .................... "Kwaaaaaaaaaaaaaak"

........................."Kwaaaaaaaaaaaaak"

There wasn't one invisible enemy there was many.

"Hahahahahaaaaaaaa"Paul laughed

"No shit I couldn't do anything they were on the trees." Paul said

"Hey come over here Paul." Anastasia motioned for Paul to come over to them

"Yeah sure" He walked over as the attacks stopped and the injured Chameleon had just been staring at them

"let me see your hand Paul and Ares." Okay they both responded giving Anastasia their hands

Anastasia pulled out her dagger and cuts both of their palms at the same time."Oh what the hell Ana!" Paul said as he held his hand and Ares said the same thing as she glared at Anastasia

Anastasia then cuts her own palm and throws the blood towards a tree and its splashes against an invisible enemy.

"Dont just look at me throw your blood around the trees so it exposes the Chameleons." She said with a pained expression on her face as she just cut her own hand.

So Ares and Paul began throwing their blood around and parts of the tails were painted red and parts of the lizards bodies were painted red as well.

Paul ran towards the already visible Chameleon while dodging all the not so invisible tails anymore, he made it to the lizard and dodged one of its tails and the other was easy to dodge as it was slow the Chameleon turned its body towards Paul and attempted to jump on him.

Paul readied his sword and jumped into its stomach, pierced it as if it was butter, he forced the blade to the left and opened a giant gash in the Chameleons stomach, it didn't last another 20 seconds as it gasped for air.

Paul turned around to see Ares and Anastasia gone, so he looked around and saw Anastasia hanging from a branch high above a blood painted chameleon who thought it was invisible the next second Anastasia fell from the tree branch and activated Sousei Nir again and penetrated the body of the Chameleon, It screamed however her ability was still activated and from its back downwards it split open as a lot of its blood spilled out following Anastasia who just rolled when she landed and all the purple ooze landed behind her.

Ares had holstered her short sword and ran towards another painted enemy, it tried to strike her but she easily dodged and cut into the tails with a few quick slashes she learned from Anastasia, and she repeated this another two times and then approached the body of the Chameleon and it did what the other one did to Paul and tried to jump on Ares however ares rolled and dodged its body slam turned around and stabbed into its side and ran towards its tails, when she opened up the wound wide enough she ran away to distance herself from it and repeated what she did to the other side of its body, after both sides were cut open she just let it bleed out as it became really slow and breathed heavy.

It died soon afterwards. The last Chameleon tried to run however Anastasia appeared above it jumped down and drilled a hole through its pyramid with her Sousei Nir skill.

"Grrrrrrrroaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"

2 minutes after their long drawn out battle they heard a roar sound coming from the direction of Gabriel's group
