《Sage Of An Era》Chapter 23

“Are you asking for death?” Julius roared, his old wrinkled face was livid, displaying his anger in the stead of the prince.
Even the prince experienced annoyance, in his life, there was no one that acted out of line in front of him to incur his displeasure, in fear of his anger.
For the first time in his life, someone looked down upon him so openly, but the man that was looking down on him wasn’t even facing him like he wasn’t worth a second of his precious time, all this from the contempt in his voice.
But before they could do anything, Chairman Francis spoke, “Men take these people out!” His words were not too loud, on cue a dozen figures in black appeared out of nowhere to stand behind the door to block the Prince’s entourage.
At that moment the Prince still held onto his composure: “Francis, what do you think you are doing? Are you attacking a member of the Royal Family? ”
Opposite to the prince’s expectations, there was only ridicule on the Chairman’s face, “Prince, oh little prince, if this was any other time, I may have swallowed all your countless ridicule but now I don’t need to.”
“Prince, you forget that you are part of the Royal Family but since when has the royal family dared to go against the Atlas Blaze Conglomerate?” His eyes then turned to Julius who was about to open his mouth once again.
His eyes grew even colder and his cold smirk vanished: “Remember your place,” Those 3 words caused Julius to immediately eat up the words he was about to say, those cold eyes were like a bucket of cold water being poured on his head reminding him of the difference in strength between himself and the Chairman.
The cold smirk once again formed on his face when he looked at the prince: “Prince Louise, you’re about 20 years of age and still not a Sage Warrior, a good for nothing of a prince, why don’t you go on try to remove me of my position right now?”

He turned to the man that gave him the order, “One of the elders of the Conglomerate is right here, he’s not just an Elder he’s a Legacy Elder so if you tell him, he will remove me of my position this instant.”
“….” An abnormal silence filled the room.
At that moment Julius being the Vice Chairman hearing those words fell on his backside murmuring 2 words, his eyes nearly bulging out of their sockets: “Legacy… Elder?”
For a moment he had been suspicious of Francis but being aware of his character he knew that if he was bluffing it would only dig a deeper grave for him to be buried in.
Instantly scrambling towards Richard grovelling on the ground, keeping his head down: “Elder… Forgive this old senile fool? I would never dare to act with ill-intent towards you.”
The Prince himself was thunderstruck by the revelation but was even more surprised by Julius’s over the top, pathetic reaction.
“Disgusting,” Richard made it known; his feelings of contempt and revulsion concerning Julius’s character through one single word.
With the situation he feared coming to pass Julius frantically tried calling out to Richard once more, however, Chairman Francis appeared beside him and struck at him without mercy.
“Enough! Throw him out!” Francis ordered the figures clad in black to carry the unconscious body out of the building.
Francis then slowly turned to the prince, his wicked smile containing years of indignation that finally had a place to be released. “For years I’ve stayed quiet, for years I’ve bitterly swallowed my pride, but even someone as disciplined as myself, there’s a limit to how much I can take.”
Seated there watching the entire performance taking place, Ryan empathised with the sentiments of Francis. He understood that feeling of swallowing his pride and integrity for the sake of survival; he knew it more than anyone else.

Nonetheless, he watched in silence, it was not his place to interfere in someone else’s affairs.
On the other hand, the focal point of Francis’s vexation was the Prince. Prince Louise was at a loss on what to do, the pressure of the Chairman’s gaze and his display of reducing Julius to nothing more than a sack of straw caused him to falter.
He understood that he was in a tight spot, the people behind him were all young masters and mistresses of powerful families in the kingdom with their guards, yet their guards were only Sage Warriors.
“Nevertheless I will be lenient and ask you only to leave the premise.” Francis was a smart man, although, he was still angry the prince was still the Prince of the kingdom he could not go too far, he was only the Chairman of a branch and when the Elder left he would have no backing, therefore, leaving some leeway was his best decision.
“Men lead the Prince and his entourage out of the premises; we have embarrassed ourselves enough before the Elder,” Francis ordered his men to begin moving.
“Wait.”
Unexpectedly Richard intervened, this entire fiasco was not worth his time, but an idea struck his mind when Francis mentioned that the Prince was not even a Sage Warrior yet.
“But first is it not about the time for you to show yourself after all your Prince is in quite a precarious position. I mean I don’t mind giving you this room, but on one condition, what do you say?”
“…”
The room was filled with silence; nobody understood what Richard was talking about or to whom not even Chairman Francis, Another person? He couldn’t sense anything no matter how hard he tried.
For a few seconds, there was nothing but silence until a figure appeared in between the men clad in black and the entourage behind the Prince.
The man was not extremely tall he was only 175cm tall slightly shorter than the Prince, his appearance though was sharp, including his black hair, his navy blue military uniform, even his expression and by his waist was a black sheathed sword.
Compared to Chairman Francis he was a lot younger, he was quite handsome and gave off a cold temperament that of a general on the battlefield.
The Prince seeing the arrival of the man was excited, even a bit of self-confidence started to rise within his mind.
Chairman Francis was shocked by the man’s appearance: “The kingdom’s genius General Soren!”
“Soren!” The Prince exclaimed with happiness.
Soren ignored the shock of the people and focussed solely on Richard who was still not looking at him.
“What do you propose?” Soren’s tone was as straightforward as his expression. It was not apparent on his face though but he was shocked at being found, yet picking on that unobvious information of being found meant that the masked figure was a lot more powerful than he was.
“Haha, good choice!” Richard laughed delightedly.
Richard laughing was even more of a shock for the people within the room than the entrance of Soren.
“All I want is for your Prince and my disciple to have an exchange of physical blows, what do you say?”

Characters grow their powers with explicit stat blocks presented right in the text, including levels, attribute scores, and unlockable skill trees. Experience is accumulated by battling enormous monsters the size of buildings. Political intrigue and romance elements ramp up as the series progresses. I originally wrote this story after playing Monster Hunter with my niece. She was 12 at the time, already an avid reader, and wanted to read my other published books. I'm a licensed psychotherapist specializing in severe trauma so I tend toward darker fiction. I told her my usual books are too brutal for her but I'd write her something special. The result was this series, which has been praised by both teens and adults for its depth and universal appeal. It begins with an emphasis on cultural elements because I consulted with a trained anthropologist to craft this neolithic setting down to exacting social detail. After these opening chapters, it rapidly shifts to an action-packed adventure. The first 3 books are fully written as of November 2020, totalling approximately 69 chapters. The first book has been professionally edited already. The following two books require some editing which I'll do on a chapter-by-chapter basis as releases progress. I welcome reviews and comments. Writing is a passion, and reader engagement makes my labor all the sweeter.
