《Sage Of An Era》Chapter 5

“Why are we in the city today?”
Ryan asked Richard as they strolled along through the street; Richard was in no rush to reply and looked around at the many different stalls and shops.
“We came to the city today to buy a few items for my next experiment.” He replied while looking at Ryan with a harmless smile on his face.
Seeing this smile Ryan felt a chill run through his back, the hair on his body stood and he shivered slightly. Just remembering the pain that he felt caused him to feel a sense of trepidation towards the word ‘experiment’ and that harmless smile on Richards' face.
“How’d you like your new clothes?” Richard asked pulling Ryan out of his nightmarish thoughts.
Hearing this Ryan couldn’t help but smile cheerfully, his childish nature was slightly shown.
Ryan no longer looked like a child from the streets, he wore a black long sleeved t-shirt and black woollen trousers and over it he wore a grey cloak around him to protect him from the cold. His jet black hair was even cut by Richard and shortened slightly and his fringe was just long enough to cover his forehead.
His silver eyes had a strong light to them and his skin was now extremely soft and healthy. This change was due to the green pill that he was fed when he was unconscious, while not only healing him it had rid his body of his toxins and any other unwanted substances. Ryan with his clear features was a handsome young child and his silver eyes had a strong draw to it.
Whilst walking through the city, the atmosphere was quite cheerful. This city was one of the ten 2nd class cities called the North Creed City in the Reinhart kingdom. The Reinhart kingdom was also a fairly powerful nation with many sages living within its boundaries.

“Ryan you can go look around while I go take care of my things,” Richard noticed Ryan’s eyes glisten when he saw all the stalls with food and the people enjoying it.
Ryan was startled and nodded quite happy with it. “Here take this,” Richard pulled out two silver coins from his pouch and handed it to Ryan.
Taking the two silver coins Ryan was shocked, two silver coins was a huge amount, and he had never seen so much money in his life, as a beggar he had to steal to survive on the street. Ryan’s eyes grew a bit watery but he quickly wiped it away using his sleeve.
Richard seeing this smiled: “Don’t get conned Ryan, I’ll find you in roughly an hour,” he said as he patted Ryan’s hair and walked off into the crowd.
Ryan nodded; he lived on the streets his whole life so he knew how to behave and when to stay low. His gaze then followed Richard; deep in his heart, he felt a vast amount of gratitude and respect towards this ragged man.
-------------------------
“How much is this?” Ryan pointed towards a delicacy and asked the stall keeper.
“2 copper coins.”
“Here.” Ryan handed him the amount and carried on walking through the street while eating.
He raised his head towards the dull sky; an hour has nearly passed, Ryan thought to himself.
“Crash!”
Ryan turned towards the loud crashing sound and noticed that there was a crowd in the distance since he was rather short compared to the rest of the people he couldn’t see what was attracting the attention of so many people.
Attracted by the disturbance and walked towards the crowd.
“Excuse me, what’s going on?” Ryan asked a man who he figured would respond without getting annoyed.

He was right on this point and the man wasn’t too annoyed by Ryan: “The two terrors are making trouble once again.”
“The two terrors?” Ryan replied with hints of confusion in his tone.
The man looked at Ryan, but then realised something: “You must not be from this city? Well to put it briefly, the two are not the strongest youngsters in the city but they are respectively the only sons of the chiefs of the Reiner Family and the Freed Family so they can do whatever they want without consequence. The two families are the overlords of this city and they possess legendary Sages.”
When the man mentioned the word ‘Sage’ his eyes slightly brightened with awe.
Ryan nodded and then looked towards the centre.
Two youths stood at the centre followed by 4 bodyguards, one was tall while the other’s height was average, and the tall youth had blonde hair while the other youth had brown hair. They were smiling, enjoying the attention that they were receiving from the crowd.
Lying on the floor in front of them was a young man, he had a bloody nose and his face was bruised, but through his eyes, you could see pent-up rage and deep arrogance.
“When I get back to my clan, I will make sure you disappear off the face of this continent,” the youth on the floor roared furiously.
“Haha, what is a so-called member of the legendary Ferian Clan doing in our city? How can one of their clansmen be so weak? We’d be rewarded for crippling you and handing you back to them so that they can punish you.” The Tall-blonde youth snickered as he glanced down at the youth with disdain clearly not believing him in the slightest.
Ryan seeing all this sighed, it was not something that he was going to intrude on, and this was none of his business. Even though he wanted to help he was not stupid enough to attract calamity for an act of kindness and he was far too weak to do anything.
Having seen enough, he did not bother staying any longer and turned to leave.
“Where’d you think you’re going?” An arm grabbed onto Ryan’s shoulder forcing him to stop, Ryan turned without delay.
“Richard?”
It was indeed Richard standing behind him: “Let’s stay here for a bit,” he said in a tone that needed no reply and on his face was a harmless smile like he was planning something.
Ryan knowing that smile all too well felt his body tremble subconsciously and a feeling of uneasiness well up inside.
