《Re:Chances》Chapter 18 - Aftermath

Authors Note: Hello, it's been a long time since I've made an authors note, and it isn't really related to the story to boot, but this is about a matter that is really important to me. If you want to continue reading you should just skip the next part.
It is about a role play game in the RRL forum called Plein D'espoir, which has unfortunatelyl been abandoned. In my eyes this is a real pity because first of all it has very detailed worldbuilding and the two factions you can choose from. I have spoken to the mods who have agreed to revive it should I be able to gather enough people, so I am reaching out to you, fellow users and or lurkers!
If you are interested here is the link to the Plein D'espoir forum, which contains far more detailed information.
“Ughh” I groaned.
This fucking headache is killing me!
Feeling a strange pain in a few regions, I rolled around to find a softer spot of my bed. My cheek hit a cold wall, making me hesitantly look open my eyes.
A wooden wall was in front of my eyes, blocking me from seeing anything else. I looked around and saw that I had somehow landed on the stairs, the pain originating from the spots that touched the edges. The bright light coming from upstairs made me squint my eyes in pain, but a few seconds were all they needed to adjust.
Greta was lying on the carpet, the area around her fortunately void of blood. Her long brown hair was sprawled around in a chaotic manner and she didn’t seem to be awake. Frank, whose limp body was next to a table, also seemed unharmed. A few strands of his shoulder length blonde hair fell onto his face, making him look as if he were sleeping if it weren’t for the circumstances.
Owen’s body however was leaning against a wall, a trail of dried blood running from his temple to the now bloodied carpet under him.
I sat up and leaned on the railing. When I touched the back of my head I felt that all the hairs there were clumped together, forming a solid mass that hurt every time I tried to move it.
“God dammit, what the hell happened here?” I muttered.
Then the memories came back. That damned monster! I swear if anything has happened to someone I will personally skin you!

I tried to stand up but an intense wave of nausea washed over me, forcing me to sit down again. I conjured some water and a small fire from my core and heated the water until it became a bit hotter than lukewarm.
I carefully moved the water to the back of my head, hoping to dissolve some of the blood by doing so. It took quite some time but in the end most of the blood around the actual wound had been washed away, painting the previously clean sphere of water crimson.
I touched the ball, depositing it in a special region of my core space where I keep my dirty water until I come around cleaning it.
“Guys? Are you-!” I weakly shouted but the nausea came in for another round. My eyes started to water as an intense urge to puke overcame me.
I tried my best to hold it in but the temptation of instant relief was just too strong. I emptied all of the contents of my stomach onto the stairs. It continued on to the pristinely white carpet like a gross stream of a bits and pieces in yellowish water.
I heaved another time, turning the stream into a small river.
When a few seconds without any indicators that I will puke another time passed I let out a sigh.
The smell of blood that had previously permeated the room had been replaced by that of puke, making me want to cover my nose.
I conjured another, far bigger ball of water and let it soak every spot the puke had touched. Then I pulled it and the puke up. I hesitated for a moment since I didn’t really want to have all those remnants of my food mixed in with the rest of the dirty water, but decided that other things were more important right now and deposited it in the end.
I put a hand on the railing for support and shakily stood up, the nausea still not completely gone.
I neared Owen with wobbly steps, stopping occasionally when my vision began to blur. Tapped him on the shoulder, I asked him whether he was awake or not.
He didn’t answer, making me frown. I grabbed his shoulders and slowly dragged him to the middle of the room, the dried blood making a gross noise when his body was removed from the wall.

Doing the same to Greta and Frank, I laid them next to Owen.
What am I supposed to do now? I have no real way to help them and I doubt that my superficial medical knowledge would do any good.
With nothing else to do I laid down in front of them and began meditating.
Time passed and I could feel the throbbing headache slowly receding. After a while the nausea also vanished, making me feel nearly fine again.
A sharp inhale from my right abruptly woke me up, making me focus my gaze on Greta, who was in the process of sitting up.
“Is Owen okay?” She asked me with concern evident in her ocean blue eyes. Her hair was still pretty disheveled but there were obviously greater concerns on her mind.
“I dunno, but he doesn’t really look that fine to me.” My reply didn’t really do anything but make her worry even more.
When she wanted to move over to him I stopped her and told her to heal her wounds first. Who knows what kind of injuries she could have gotten.
Our conversation seemed to have woken Frank up as he began to stir.
“Fuck, my shoulder’s killing me.” Were the first words coming out of his mouth, making me chuckle at the similarity of our reaction after waking up.
“This is not funny.” Greta’s glare turned my chuckle into a full blown laughter.
“It’s not what you think it is.” I managed to get out after recovering from laughing so hard, a grin still on face.
“I’ll never understand just what is going on in that head of yours.” She shook her head and raised her hands with a shrug.
When I looked over at Frank I saw that his eyes were closed again, most likely for meditation. Seeing that Greta did the same and I followed their example as I could still feel faintly painful throbs every few seconds.
Time passed and after the headache completely vanished it was already dark. Activating my mana vision, I saw that Greta and Frank were emanating a far bigger amount of mana than normally, indicating that they were still meditating. Owen was unfortunately still not showing any signs of being awake, worrying me even more.
I grabbed his foot, shaking it a bit. He groggily opened his eyes. “Why is it dark?” He said with a confused expression on his face.
“A lot of time has passed. We’ll speak after you’ve meditated a bit, okay?” He nodded, a pained expression coming over his face at the pain that action brought.
After making sure he was really meditating I resumed my own meditation, waiting for dawn to arrive.
After the mana in the room became slightly redder I stood up. “I’ll check the situation outside. We still don’t know the extent of the destruction but I’m sure that it isn’t small after the impacts that monster caused.” I informed them.
“John, for the thousandth time, open your eyes when your mana vision is activated. It’s pretty freaky to talk to a person whose eyes are closed but can still see everything in the surroundings.” Frank reminded me.
It is a habit that I acquired after a few months in this hut. Really, I just don’t see the need to open them to properly see so why should I? Not to mention that I tend to forget to blink when my mana vision is activated.
“Yeah yeah, maybe later.” I replied.
I opened the surprisingly still intact door and stepped out, stopping in my tracks once I looked around.
Instead of a sunlit clearing we were in the middle of a plain.
A fucking plain.
The sun was shining brightly in the sky, illuminating the vast expanses of green grass all around me. Occasionally a brightly glowing tree could be found, indicating that they weren’t normal. In the distance there were some pink masses moving around. Occasionally some pink specks would suddenly accelerate with lightning speed to chase another pink speck.
In front of me there was a small mountain of soil, looking like someone had used our house as a shovel.
I circled around the hut, quickly spotting the straight line of total destruction our house seemed to have carved through the area.
Anything, be it grass, soil or trees was destroyed in a straight line longer than I could see. I even caught sight of a forested area where the road of devastation seemed to have originated, but it was extremely far away.
What did that fucking monster do?
