Chapter Eleven
Taking a Break and a Little Bonding
“She’s not working; she’s on her way here with Jane. Her presence is a little different almost like a coiled spring. She not bouncing around like when we first met two days ago, I think she’s burning herself out with building that stupid ship.” Courtney was about to say more, but an angry AI came from nowhere inches from her face.
“That stupid ship is going to mean life and death for billions if not more. She’s willing to die to finish that stupid ship. She knows what Fred saw and how things would turn out if she doesn’t finish it. She cried in her sleep trying to figure out how to help Jane and now to save you and all the abducted mages. Without that stupid ship, you call it everyone will die even the Titans all but Sky. So, it’s not a stupid ship; it’s her love of life she’s building, and she’s putting her heart and soul into it. Oh, here she comes, remember that.” Conny vanished just before Sky and Jane walked into the room.
Sky walked through the doorway and made a loud gasp and fell to her knees. “So, this is what it’s like to be human I wasn’t expecting to become so weak I never really had a limit to my strength. If I needed something moved, I moved it without any real effort.” Sky surveyed the room she was in and smiled. “Wow, it looks pretty cool in here. Sorry for barging in it was Jane’s idea. Well really it was my idea to come here, but that was only to make Jane’s idea to work. And if you’re not confused right now, what is one billion five hundred and seven million two hundred and fifty-five to the power of five hundred and sixty, squared.” Sky smiled when they all had a confused look on their faces.
Todd didn’t even try to figure out the answer. “What are you going on about, Young lady? How may we help you”?
Jane stepped up “We’re sorry for intruding, and I’m sorry for the bad joke. I wanted to do something to help Sky take a little tension off. So, I offered to give her a message to help her relax. I see the room is all taken by the simulation.”
Courtney went up to Jane hugged her and Sky. “I had an amazing idea; Sky makes a virtual clone of yourself to help Todd control the magic you’re sharing with us. Us ladies will all give you a message that way you’ll be all relaxed when you’re done showing Todd your valve trick. How’s that sound to you”?
“Sounds good but I can be in multiple places at once in mind before I lose any of my mental awareness. But I think I know what you mean you don’t want my al tensed up just totally relaxed.” Sky took a deep breath and looked around. “Conny I could use your assistance.”
Conny appeared right in front of her and there was a thump off to the left deep inside the simulation followed by a second and Swan was beside her. “Yes, honey.” The two AI’s said together, and both hugged her. I think I know what you want; it will be just a second.” A large portion of the simulation disappeared behind a white wall that rose out of the floor with it a table covered in a soft cushion. Soft music started to play and the sound of gently moving water. “Take a deep breath and relax, send out a virtual image of yourself and send it with Todd. We take really good care of your body.”

Sky took a deep breath and stepped out from herself. As she walked towards Todd, the ladies and AI’s shooed her and Todd away. She and Todd walked through a doorway that seemed to appear from thin air. The room wasn’t large, but it was more than adequate for their needs. “Todd take a seat in what makes you feel most comfortable and close your eyes.” Todd did so without hesitation; he seemed to trust her completely which made her happy. Sky took a lotus position across from him and brought up the image of her mindscape with the magic wells and valve systems, not the simplified one.
Todd heard Sky tell him to open his eyes. As he did, he could hardly comprehend what he was seeing? There were five impossibly huge tanks around them with the elaborate yet meticulous piping system coming from each tank. He could not see how this system worked right away.
“I’m showing you my system; then I’m going to show you the simplified system. I believe you will understand this one once you see how the simple one works.” As she was talking to Todd, the pipes and valves morphed into a very basic system. “I want you to copy this system the best you can to your magic supply. You only have four so do so accordingly. The first valve regulates pressure and the second is a simple quarter turn ball valve.” She walked over to the first valve and opened it and reached to the second one. “I want you to turn yours till there is only a fine mist coming out from the ball valve.”
She turned her valve slowly till there was a mist coming out, then closed the ball valve. She brought up a simple Light sphere shell under the where the mist came out and opened the valve Once the mist touched the spell circle a small ball of blueish light appeared, and she turned off the valve. “This way the light sphere is pretty consistent. With my system, I can just cast the spell and the valves open and close on their own once I cast the spell with the desired effect. If I have to use more than one element, it adjusts each valve to the amount what the spell requires. The control I have without much thought is very precise. As complicated it is to set up initially the benefit is beyond compare. Reaction time and accuracy will go up because every spell or incantation will be the same as the one before it. If you desire a more potent or powerful casting raise the magic on one and the others will adjust accordingly.” As she was explaining a smile worked its way on her lips, and she stood a little straighter.
“Okay, I think I get it to let me try the basic first and work my way up. Is this what you should the others on wonder they’re doing so much better than me right now. I just wished I listened to you the first time. Sorry for not trusting and believing in you when we first met.”
“No, I only showed them the basic system, I’m not sure if they would have understood the more complex one as fast as you will. So, try out a few non-combat related castings and see how the system works for you.” She watched him cast a light sphere and a healing spell. Both were tiny castings. He cast a fire spell that was tiny at first but grew larger then smaller repeatedly.

“I’ve got the basics down now could you explain the system you have? I think I know, but before I jump to any conclusions, I would like to hear you say it first.”
Sky morphed the system back to the complex one she uses. As she explained the way her system worked, he nodded at what he understood and asked a question at what he didn’t. It wasn’t long before his system of controlling his magical flow was almost on par with hers. “You’re an incredible mage Todd Sir. You picked it up fast and controlled your magic almost as good as me. Maybe I could do a little practice with you on the binding spells. I’ve never fought except with myself and the spiders the day before I left. The sparring matches were more of a practice than a fight. I was trying out different moves I thought up.”
Sky was about to say more, but she smiled and let out a cute moan. “That feels incredibly good. Todd, have you ever had a massage before?
Todd had a blank look on his face. “I think I’ll keep that answer to myself; thank you.” With a light cough, he continued. “Are you going to play little sis.”
Sky didn’t answer right away. “They are so good there message is taking away tension from me. I didn’t know I had. I feel like I can work for another six hours non-stop. I’ll have to practice with you guys later. Right now, Jane and I should get back to work on the ship. The next step is the top of the ship. Then tomorrow morning is the exterior parts like the landing gear, emergency crew hatch, the cargo ramp door and the turrets. After that, it’s the interior doors and fixtures like toilet, sinks and showers even some chairs. I think after that it’s going to be more replicating things off this ship to be faster. Beds and a lot of the other stuff like that can be just copied and repeated at least that is what I hope I can do. I haven’t tried it just yet. But I’m sure I can do it. We should get back. I think they're done with what they were doing. If being squishy allows people to relax another like this, I can see it being a plus.” Sky let the image of she mindscape fade, and they were back in the white room. When they opened the door, Jane and Heather were lacing up her boots. “You had to take off my boots. When I cloned, myself I took almost all of my awareness with me all I could feel from in here was how relaxed my body had become.”
Jane stepped away as the clone faded, and Sky hoped off the table stretching. Sky gave all the girls a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. “So, my cute little sister, how do you feel right now? “Your body was like one big knot, and it took all of us to work them out. You should be ready to finish the day with ease.”
Conny and Swan stepped forward together. “We would like to help you somehow if we can. We are more than capable of running the simulation and helping you at the same time. Is there something we can do”?
Sky pondered the request. “I guess there is some stuff you can do. I need schematics of fixtures like toilets, sinks and the plumbing that goes with them just on the outside. I’ve got the plumbing inside done already as part of the flooring.” She started for the exit and felt the difference in how her body felt with each step. Jane and the two AI followed her out. If you look inside of the new ship you can see the ones, I picked out but if you find other ones better or nicer looking, go ahead and give me the plans for them. I could also use an idea of how to build them from a mould or something. After I build one, it should be just a matter of copying and putting in the right material.”
When they made their way into the cargo bay, Fred was walking around the base of the new ship. He was so engrossed he didn’t even hear them come in, not that they were noisy. “So, Captain Fred Sir what do you think so far? I was going to put the bulkheads and the interior walls up soon if you want to watch and see how they go together. Jane and I have the process down to an art form. I fit them together, and she powers the spell to join them as one piece.”
Fred looked over to Sky who looked as fresh as any day he has seen her. “I came down to see how you’re doing. I was worried you might be pushing yourself too hard. I see that you’re cooping just fine and that Jane is taking good care of you.” He turned and faced the bottom completed part. “It looks incredible, to think you made this from scratch and no help building the parts. I don’t see any seams of where they joined together. It looks like one solid piece of metal milled into shape. I would like to see how you’re doing it if you don’t mind showing me”? He said turning back to Sky.

Candor: The Forgotten House
*** Please read note below *** As a 16-year-old mage from a powerful family, Jayce Candor had known from a young age what his future would hold. But, with his talent as a mage, his potential accomplishments in the military could lead to titles of nobility and political power. However, on what would otherwise be an unremarkable night, everything he had ever known, the only people he ever cared for, and all of the plans for his future were destroyed. House Candor, one of the six great houses that helped build the Eldoran Empire had been erased from history. By imperial decree, all those bearing the name Candor were hunted down and executed as traitors of the Empire. With no home, no family, and only death waiting for him, Jayce decided to escape north to the uncharted Northern Territories to begin a new life. Forced into situations he was never prepared for and trying to cope with his past, Jayce tries to find safety in a place spoken about only in legends. There for the first time, he will make true friends and find people he will come to see as family. He will encounter strong enemies, build powerful alliances, and become a person his ancestors would be proud of. But surrounded by creatures he thought only existed in tales and pressed by the Empire’s constant expansion, Jayce’s safety may be only an illusion. To survive a world fraught with danger Jayce will need to grow stronger with each new experience and rebuild his once forgotten house. ********************************************************************** Note: The story starts slow. Although there is more action as the story progresses, there is a fair amount of introspection and character introduction in the first 30 chapters. Jayce is the main character, however, other characters play a large role and the story is seen through multiple POV's. This is a draft, it is not a finished work. This is not a story that focuses on an OP MC who beats up on weaklings. At times there can be a fair amount of internal monologue. Some of that may be edited out when I rewrite the story. I decided to keep it in the draft because I think it is better to have too much material rather than too little when I edit. Constructive criticism is appreciated as it helps in the editing and rewriting process. Check out my other story Shattered Mind here

ELIOT NESS FOR MAYOR is a short novel of magical-realist fiction, a stand-alone book in the Shantytown Cycle. Written for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), I will be posting revisions as I complete them and should be done by early 2022, though I am making major changes so the timing may be longer. This book is cross-posted on two websites: Wattpad and Royal Road. Both are reputable, high-quality sites. Do not trust this book on other websites. They "scrape" material from reputable sites, posting the stolen material as an original to lure users in, but contain links that include malicious code.
