《When LitRPG Destroys Earth》Chapter 7

Sitting down, Ume inhaled slowly, her system responding to the smoke, and she felt her lungs being wrapped by a toxic fog. Taking small, slow draws of the cigarette, no matter how much she took it, it never tasted good. But whatever the thing inside that smoke, she hoped if she used up enough it would make her calm. Even it was all just for a moment.
A few meters from her side, Nashi was trying at his best to create fire, silently made the fire formation and blew the spark. Though, it wasn't as easy as it looked like. After another failed attempt, he stood up, kicked the fire formation and put another piece of cigarette in his mouth.
Slightly sat near him was Yuzu, spinning the lever on the hand-cranked radio, grinning and dancing her head like she was playing with her toy.
"...Hey, do you think every dead person will turn into a zombie?" Said Ume after she clumsily blew the smoke from her mouth.
Hearing his sister, Nashi only shook his head, blew several smoke rings from his mouth and said. "Nay, if that's the case the girl, what is her name again? Ah, right Eiko should've turned into one a long time ago." But as he realized the cranked sound already stopped and Yuzu already watched him with a sparkle on her eyes. Guessing what she wanted him to do, once again he inhaled the smoke and created another smoke ring, this time a big one. "...My best guess, there is something on that place that turns them into a zombie, I mean no matter how you look at it, the timing was too perfect." He said while watching the smoke dissipated.
"...Anyway, we have enough amount of food and water for now. And since you can move normally right now, how about helping me collecting some item?"
"Then who will watch her?" Said Ume, pointing her index finger to Yuzu.
Hearing this, she stood up, folding her arm and with a smug face, she said. "I can take care of myself!!"
"...Yeah, about that... it might be better for her to learn to survive, so yeah... I guess she needs to come with us." Said Nashi as he putting the cigarette off, sighing as he noticed he only had three pieces left.
"Anyway, I'm going to sleep, and about how we will do that I'll explain tomorrow."
Ume nodded, she covered herself with a blanket while using the flashlight as their source of light. Keeping the watch while waiting for her turn to sleep.

As the morning came, their breakfast was lemon-vanilla flavoured calory bar, after that they walked quite a bit astray from the main street and after spending some time, they found seven level 1 goblin.
Without hesitation, Nashi used Intimidation, glaring at the seven goblins and as the result, every each one of them was paralyzed by fear. And from his back, Ume swinging the cutlass right at their neck but much to his surprise, he also got another Point even when Ume was the one that killed them.
Though, after six goblins had fallen, rewarding both of them with 12 points. With one goblin being left behind, as Ume began to gather the item they dropped, Nashi marched to the goblin and with every crackling sound, the goblin was losing its ability to move. And Nashi broke all of the bone in its limbs and its teeth, then he dragged the barely alive goblin at Yuzu direction and threw it right in front of her.
"...Can you do it?" Nashi said with sympathetic eyes.
Without answering Yuzu only nodded, her trembling hand was clenching a dagger, and with closed eyes, she moved the dagger right into the goblin's chest. As the blood flowed from its chest, muttering something in its language the goblin met its demise. Giving Nashi and her 2 points.
And like what Ume guessed, once they had the point they could open the screen from the cube and the spellbook. After this they would rest for an hour, with Nashi searching for any kind of seed, sometimes killing another weak monster he could find, Ume reading the spellbook while keeping her eyes on Yuzu and Yuzu spinning the lever on the cranked radio, sometimes doing some little exercise.
The result by the mid-day wasn't disappointing. They point they got In total was Nashi 161, Ume 84 and Yuzu 25. Alongside this, they also got 21 cubes, 10 coins, 2 red orbs, 1 scroll, 2 spellbooks, one blue orb and one green orb.
From 21 cubes, 14 were identified, from among it they got 6 plates of food, using Nashi points to open them, they got a standard fried rice, spaghetti and apple tart. Whilst the other three set of food was being kept by Yuzu. On the other eights, most of them were weapons but the last one contained 20 pieces of arrows, complete with its quiver. The big mischievous grin plastered on Ume's eyes as she finally got the weapon she familiar with.
The other sevens unidentified one contained two red liquids, one blue liquid, a spiky black mace, a polished helmet, a set of leather armguard, a red transparent stone and a ring.

The next things they were distributing was the spellbooks and the scroll. Using rock-paper-scissor to decide which should pick first. The first winner was Yuzu but seemed like she didn't understand much and only picked it randomly. And another discovery they discovered was while recipe needed them to complete the specific set of activities, the spellbook needed them to read them while the skill scrolls needed them to follow the instruction and having the required Talent.
In the end, after Ume took another spellbook and Nashi took the scroll. As the only one that already fulfilled the requirement for Firebolt Lvl 1 was Ume. Opening the screen, she learned the said spell.
Name Firebolt Lvl 1 Mana Cost 1 Cooldown 5 (3) second Casting Time 0.5 (0) second Range 8 (10) meter Effect Fire a small bolt of fire from your fingertips, deal 3(4) fire damage to your enemy.
And next for the coins distribution, Nashi took 4 coins each had a different picture, arm, body, a human figure, and dice, respectively distributing them into power, defence, reaction and quality. And the green orb to raise his Craft Point by 7.
Ume took three coins, arm for power, eyes for perception, and brain for cooldown reduction, alongside with this she took the blue orb to raise her Mana by 7 and the red orb to raise her Health.
Yuzu got forced to spend her coin in any status that seemed useful for her survival. Body coin for defence, leg for speed, heart symbol coin for magic resistance and health orb to raise her health by 7.
All in all, on the third day their status had become.
Nashi [Thug 1] Ume Yuzu Health/R per hour 35 [42] / 18 25 / 17 10 / 6 Stamina/R per minute 24 [28] / 16 20 / 15 5 / 12 Mana/R per hour 15 [10] / 12 22 / 11 11 / 9 Technique/R per hour 12 /14 10 / 9 2 / 15 Craft/R per hour 25 /10 5 / 13 7 / 18 Power 10 [12] 7 2 Capacity 10 (30/60/90) 6 (18/36/54) 1 (3/6/9) Defence 8 [10] 4 3 Endurance 4 [5] 3 1 Perception 3 [4] 7 3 Precision 7 9 5 Speed m/s 12 [14] 10 7 Jump 4 (6/1.2) 4 (6/1.2) 1 (1.5/0.3) Reaction 4 6 4 Control 8 9 4 Amplified 40% [30%] 30% 40% Resistance 5 5 4 Cooldown Reduction -1 [-0.5] -2 -1 Casting Speed -0.2 [0] -1 -0.2 Craft Rate 8 5 4 Quality 8 4 6 Presence 6 [8] 5 2 Willpower 6 3 10 Boost 4 2 6 Break 1[2] 8 2
Alongside with this, a puzzle piece had been filled, for whatever the perception was, but Ume could see the monster name and level from 7 meters away, whilst Nashi could only see it from 3 meters. Thinking about this in their mind, the list of status that they couldn't make sense were Capacity, Endurance, Precision, Control, Boost and Break.
Nashi best guess was that Capacity was the parameter to show how strong they were to lift things up, though since they didn't have an exact measurement, he wasn't that sure about this.
Scratching his head, but since they didn't have anything else to do. "...Oi! Ume! Shot the firebolt at me." Said Nashi. "...Just make sure you shot it on my hand." He continued as he waved his hand up into the air.
Tilted her head, but with a grin, she pointed her finger at her brother and said something in the unknown language. "[Firebolt]"
Without hesitation, a fire with the size of golf ball flew directly to Nashi's hand. Burning his palm while he studiously watched his status screen. His health only reduced by one and he did feel the heat and the pain but it wasn't that painful.
Slightly shaking his hand to extinguish the fire, there burn on his hand slowly regenerated, unlike the burn wound from the Goblin Mage. With a deep sigh, instead of an answer, he got himself another question mark of what made the difference between Ume firebolt and the goblin fire.
(...Well, at least we can make a fire for tonight.)
And after spending the rest of their day doing some extermination, they went back to the main street, spending the rest of their time doing different types of exercise, jogged on the spot, swung the different type of weapon, punched the air, and when the sun set down Nashi got another series of notifications.

Leaves of Terranthir
DISCONTINUED - I won't be writing more of this fiction. Check out the latest post for a worlbuilding summary / final thoughts. Leaves of Terranthir is a gamelit blend of ARPG, action, fantasy, and slice of life. It's inspired in part by some of my favourite games, borrowing in themes, sense of exploration, and aesthetics from the Soulsborne and soulslike genre, mixed heavily with arpg itemization from Diablo/PoE style games. While many may remember their Soulslike experiences as nothing more than suffering, I personally loved the sense of progression, to prevail over challenges and monsters that seemed impossible to defeat at first. If any of that seems interesting to you, do check out the first chapter and let me know what you think. Cheers, and thanks for reading. Cover by Baconstrap.

People. Harmony. Dysfunction
[Hiatus]People are extraordinary. They are glorious, chaotic, imaginative, grim, all kinds of smart and driven. They are capable of living in harmony or incredible destruction. They can be both caring and loyal but vicious and self-centred. However, Olivia wished that the first year of her PhD didn't have to showcase quite so much of the melting pot. People. Harmony. Dysfunction. is a story that follows a research group through the drama and challenges life throws at them. It has an (unspecified) modern setting and focuses on the characters. I've tried to rate this pre-emptively, but unfortunately it might change as the story evolves.
