《The Worst》Chapter 18 - Know Your Limits

Simon's POV

"Retreet!"

"Don't look behind"

"Use your haste spell on me...Aaaa!"

"How come something like this resides in such a low level dungeon"

The last surviving player said as he looked at the ghastly hand that passed right through him sucking his soul out of his body.

Domina could only laugh as she stood there, in the middle of the the boss room unable to flee.

This was the final floor and the boss was nothing like the ones before him, a spectral Lich.

There were multiple kinds of Liches and undeads but this one was of the most dangerous, it attacked the soul of the player sucking it out and killing them in just one blow unless he resists it of course.

Domina went to see what treasures she could find in the large gloomy throne room as the ghastly hands caressed her body and soul.

"Alas I have no Soul"

She said as she disregarded the monster, her level was closing 100 and only needed a little experience to reach it.

"Now lets see, axes don't work on it, torch too doesn't work, lets try the fire dagger that oaf gave me"

Domina said as she took out the flamind dagger from her inventory, it was a little unfortunate that it's durability was low and also she couldn't use it but she could still just throw it at the ghastly skeleton, that was called Spectral Lich.

"Also a failure, should I await for those guys to return?"

Domina said to herself.

"Die mortal!"

the Lich said, making Domina laugh in response.

Galie's POV

"Galie, you evidently could have used your kinetic shield to block those skeletons"

Darknym said mockingly as the hords of skeletons were attacking them from all directions.

This was the room of the first boss and the three of them were now somewhat used to fighting the skeletons, in the end all they had to do was dislocate a few bones and the skeletons lost some of their battle prowess.

The boss was a simple Skeleton General with loads of skeletal warriors under his comand, although his tactics could use a little diversity, after all he only ordered them to attack or defend.

"Mary why aren't you done yet!"

Darknym shouted, he also was fighting with the skeletons although they could tell that he wasn't serious at all since he fought bare handed and didn't pay much attention to his side from where sometimes skeletons slipped away to attack Lidie or Galie who were struggling with their own sides.

Plop!

The general's head got out of its socket and the monster known as Skeleton general was dead.

Mary had skillfully decapacitated his skull off his body with a well placed swing of her heavy axe.

"Don't you dare order me around, you are not my father!"

Mary said making Galie feel sad inside.

"Oh, sorry Galie!"

Mary tried to apologize as she rushed back to their position evading blades and arrows alike.

"well, Galie your turn just don't blow it this time like the other"

Darknym said making her feel bad about herself, the reason was because after he had left them to fight the skeleton hulk she tried to use magic against it, with the fireball staff in hand.

By using the extended activation she could make the fireball stronger and then let it go but the accuracy became somewhat poor, if not for Darknym's intervention both Lidie and Mary would have died by the blast of that single overpowered fireball.

"Protect Galie!"

Darknym shouted, although they knew full well that there was no necessity for him ordering them since they would do so anyway.

The number of skeletons was nowhere near how many they were at first but they still outnumbered them 1 to 10, meaning that there were ten for each of them, while at the start there were at least a hundred for each, in truth if not for the limited space they would have been overun long ago.

Bam!

The fireball blasted at least half of them to oblivion.

"You really should learn the range of your spell when using it"

Darknym said as he once more had to shield himself from her fireball, at least she didn't target Lidie's or Mary's side although the others begun thinking that it was intentional.

"But I know the range before I power it up, I know exactly the range but I can't calculate the range afterwards"

Galie complained, in truth if it wasn't Darknym they would probably be injured by that attack after all fireball was an advanced dual element spell, combining the fire and air elements to create an explosion.

"Didn't I tell you to levitate, use kinetic shield and next fire the fireball from your advanageous position to make the most out of this one hit"

Darknym said somewhat dissatisfied, since his plan was somewhat ruined, if she had done what he told her, a half of the skeletons would would have died while now about a third were only heavily injured.

"Whatever, I leave the last bunch to you"

He said as he stepped aside and teleported to safety

The three of them had to use all their remaining strength and healing items to overcome the twenty something last skeleton warriors.

Their levels were now around 150s and they were as exhausted as they could be, Darknym's plans could be laborious and effective but they took too much time and effort to execute, if they had a little better equipment or time to prepare they would have dominated the first floor like Homestrike's team did some days ago.

"Now look through the loot, you can even sell the skeleton bones, since you can make bone meal out of them, which can be used for alchemy or farming, although necromancers and undead players could pay good money for a good set of bones for crafting"

Darknym said somewhat bored.

"Dad why don't you also gather materials?"

Galie asked somewhat irritated but mostly curious.

"Galie I'm a game master, I don't even need materials, to begin with W6 was my creation and this W12 is no different from the one I made"

Darknym said, he could of course play the game but when you know everything about the game it loses all its interest.

"What's a game master?"

Galie asked the others but even they had no Idea, even administrators had been replaced with some codes and functions by the system, as for game masters currently there was only one npc who had such power but only in his mage council room, the Archmage.

"Galie, a game master is a person who can control everything inside a game"

Darknym said, but his words make Lidie and Mary terrified, Galie didn't fully understand why they looked so shocked but suddenly she saw space itself warp and the floor under Darknym becoming black with tons of lines and dots, she could see the stones and other props also turning into black and white.

"You see Galie, everything in here is made up, this is a system to create the graphics, but they are not real, I can do whatever I like in here, there's probably around three other people who can do what I'm doing now"

Darknym said and they could only imagine one of the three people was surely the Empress.

"Since you have ended with gathering the loot, lets go"

Darknym said returning everything to normal, but they now knew what true power was.

Kaj's POV

Jak was now sailing the see, her/his mind was somewhat hazy as he had regained his senses but had no memories of what had happened before entering Allastar.

Simon/Domina had sent them her location and they were rapidly approaching the Dead Lord's Island, a low level dungeon that wasn't even in Jak's scope.

"I can see an Island!"

A sailor shouted from high up the main mast of the small sailing ship, they had someone climp up there to scout for ships and land since Jack couldn't stay with his telescope looking all the time and they still had lots of things to do around the ship, just lying, they were just fooling around until there's some sort of problem or thing to be done.

"Does it have a huge rocky Skull on it?"

Jak shouted, he only cared about one Island after all.

"Nope just a large finlike mountain"

The sailor answered somewhat apatheticaly.

"Everyone take your positions!"

Jak shouted, he knew exactly what this Island was, if it begun moving it would be disastrous.

"Change course, we must go as far away from the island as we can"

Jak commanded, it wasn't hard since the wind and the waves were helping them leave the Island behind, but it was non the less a rather lucky escape.

Jack exhaled relieved as they left the Island behind, the seemingly large Island was part of a creature called the "lord of the sea" the gigantic sea serpent that lives in the Aquantic ocean, when it is moving large chaotic waves are sent all around, and while it is asleep its body forms Islands, those who encounter it's head or its tail meets their end by being eaten or crushed under the strange mace it has for a tail after hearing the strange rattling sound it makes. It was rather fortunate that it was sleeping, but even if it wasn't a part of the Lord's body, it was still better not to go nearby.

"Everyone we change course once more, we are returning home, there's no way to safely pass through that calamity"

Jak said, he had already given up on heading to the Dead lord's Isle but he knew that the isle would probably disappear in a few days and Domina would probably appear back in town.

Of course Jak would have loved to inform Domina about his decision but he considered otherwise because it didn't really matter. Not even 16 days remained until the dungeon disappears after all.

Verina's POV

Zephir and Verina were once more in Allastar, they were in Zephir's home in Anchora.

"So what do you think about it?"

Zephir asked, he had already overcome Simon's power and returned to normal, of course he didn't care about those twelve girls she gave to Simon so the matter was closed pretty fast, only he was somewhat sad about the collars he lost.

"I think that using a shortcut now would ruin the whole experience, lets go at it a step at a time"

Verina said, they were discussing whether to gain all clearances and leave or to wait for her to become strong enough to gain them herself.

"Well I could help you with some parts but it's impossible to get the last clearance, as you can only do it with your own power after all, it's the same for the other worlds as well"

Zephir said, he had already tried all the twelve worlds and had found that the rules are somewhat the same, the clearances are in actually similar places.

"The easiest clearance to get is the Hero academy clearance, It will take some time but you will get the clearance on graduation, the same goes for the magic school and the other three are given by the governor of your race for a special merit, by a god for doing a quest for him and the last can be only gained by winning the Drogan Arena championship which is the hardest of the tasks since some guardians are playing gods there"

Zephir said, his plan was to first send her to the academy but that would mean that they wouldn't see one another for some time, after all she still had to go to her guardian training as well.

"Lets leave it for some other time"

Verina said as they both went to sleep.

========================================================================================

Simon's POV

Domina was laughing as she saw Homestrike's team dying again and again, they had tried to kill the spectral Lich numerous times but died each time after enduring a little longer than before.

Domina was hiding as she saw each failed attempt to defeat the boss, only psychic powers had some effect on the monster, after all Psyche means soul.

Meteorball's pyrokinesis was most effective, Domina waited for them to die and looted the few items they dropped, the potions she immediately drunk while the items she left on their corpses, she still needed lots of potions for her health to become positive.

'Wait, what if I just leave the capsule?'

Domina finaly thought after all the system couldn't stop her from leaving the virtual world, it was all of course Mary's fault she didn't leave even once from Allastar as they were too into conquering this dungeon with Darknym there and all.

'But before that I have to lich off some more healing potions'

Domina thought with a wicked smile on her face as she saw Homestrike's party entering the boss chamber once more, after all they no longer earned experience points for her.

========================================================================================

Galie's POV

They were now on the second floor of the dungeon, their faces were exhausted and their breath was chaotic they had to run away from almost every monster they crossed paths with and the red high heels didn't help much with running.

The monsters were now at level 110, but to them they were impossible to fight at the moment, mostly it was because of their equipment and underdeveloped skills..

They were Skeletal riders and elite skeleton warriors but the most dreaded enemy they encountered were the skeleton knights, they didn't have a horse but they doned full plate mail armors and had no weakness at all to speak of.

"Galie could you use your fireball on these?"

Lidie asked showing her a bulk of armors and weapons she had got from the skeletons, they weren't bad weapons but their durapility was really low, Lidie's Idea was to turn them into scrap metal and then smelt them into raw metal once more.

"Don't bother"

Darknym said, dicouraging Galie.

"you won't get even a scrap if you use a fireball, although Galie could use her fire marble spell but it too would take a lot of magic power and time, Galie why don't you use telekinesis and pyrokinesis, first make them levitate crush them into a smaller shape and then melt them with pyrokinesis, but don't forget to hold them with a kinetic barrier you don't want to lose metal"

Darknym said and the girls looked at him somewhat surprised, it was true that he and Galie could use a method like that but to normal players it still felt like a cheating.

Galie one by one melted the armors into orbs, making Darknym laugh somewhat mockingly.

"Are you making canonballs?"

In truth spheres were hard to work on with a hammer, just imagine them escape each time you hit them with your hammer, not to speak about the posibility of them shooting away. Galie of course disregarded him.

"Em, Galie, better make into a square or something"

Lidie now said somewhat more discretely, after all although she could sell the metal balls but if they were made into more suitable shapes she could even use them in the future if she learns blacksmithing.

"I don't care"

Galie said as she continued making the ball larger and larger, the others probably didn't understand her thoughts but she couldn't fool Darknym's eyes.

"Are you thinking of using it as a weapon?"

Darknym asked, Galie after hearing that she could melt them and creating a small fist sized ball, came up with a rather strange Idea, why not using the metal to make a weapon, just imagine a large levitating metal ball, her only problem was that she had a limit to the weight she could lift, she could use three psychic powers at the same time right now but the weight she could lift didn't exceed 50kg.

The balls weren't to her satisfaction but they were even bigger than a canonball, just imagining something like that pounding at a living person was crazy.

There were only two balls, after all the girls couldn't carry too much weight to begin with and the weapons weren'composed only of metals, they had other stuff as well which however Lidie took when she disassembled the weapons.

Well some rotten leather and a few cheap stones were all that were left of them for her to trade or use, although the large balls of metal were now like new, the weapons the skeletons had before were all rusted or rotten or both.

"Galie you know that you just cost me four gold"

Lidie said jokingly, in reality she did care a little but it didn't matter after all there were far more monsters ahead and their equipment was even better than that of the skeleton warriors.

"Sorry Lidie"

Galie said somewhat apologeticaly, after all she had used both Lidie's and her own loot to make the balls, only Mary didn't give her loot away monstly because she only gathered usable stuff like a second axe, rusted knives or another piece of armor.

If they hadn't a limited weight capacity they would have probably taken all the loot from the first boss room but only now did Lidie remember that metal can be melted, in truth it was after she saw Galie shoot a fireball at a skeleton knight, which had cracked his armor, if not for the skeleton knight's low speed they wouldn't have been able to escape his pursuit.

"Galie you should try it out first before being happy"

Darknym said, the reason for that was that the two Iron balls already had small cracks from when the metal solidified, Galie was no blacksmith and although the balls had a rather high endurance they still could be destroyed, in reality Darknym was also a little interested in what the system would do if something like that is used as a weapon, although there are chained maces with a large head but they have monsterous strength requirements to use.

"Oh I think that the knight from before caught up with us"

Darknym said, although the girls doubted him, Lidie could even see that it was another skeleton knight because there was no crack in his armor at all, if they could see his life points however they would have known that he trully was that knight as he lacked a small bit of HP.

The knight's armor was made of metal and bone, the bone that can be repaired with some magic the skeleton knight has, he could even heal himself if he wanted to, he was a level 200 monster after all.

Like the skeleton Hulk there's only one overpowered monster on each floor, encountering it means bad luck, but they would probably encounter all of them because Darknym was behind their bad luck.

"Remember the finishing move must be given by the one with the highest luck"

Darknym said to their irritation, they didn't even know if they could defeat it but he talked about killing it, not that the hulk skeleton's core wasn't a good catch, it could probably be sold for good money to a necromancer.

"Dodge"

Darknym said inside Lidie's mind, as she was at the moment a little absentminded thinking of what this monster would give them.

Sweesh!

A moment there and she would have beed dead, she activated her portal ability just in time to escape with her life but at the same time asked herself how comes and the portal has some depth to it as the sword's tip didn't come from the other side of the portal, meaning that it wasn't a simple teleportation portal. After all she had made it appear right in front of her and the other side behind the skeleton knight

"Lidie get a hold of yourself!"

Galie shouted, she couldn't tell why Lidie was so absentminded but it could as well have killed them.

"By the way why haven't you used your secret weapon yet?"

Lidie asked.

"Well..."

Galie didn't answer, she just pointed at the sluggish balls that levitated in the air, if someone inspected closely they could discover that they actualy slightly moved towards the actual battlefield.

"I'm starting to get bored"

Darknym said mockingly, it wasn't that he didn't know that something like that could happen but he wanted to see how the system would react when the next thing happend.

Mary and Lidie were now using the two large flying balls as a shield, the skeleton's two handed sword unable to show it's true strength in such restricted space and tried to destroy them but would metal really crack metal?

The two balls didn't even budge as the skeleton's fury was seen plainly by his strikes.

"How about I help you a little"

Darknym said, seeing that they were in a deadlock.

Suddenly they saw the two metalic balls as if becoming liquid and split in two each and once again, making eight liquid balls which then begun changing shapes and twisting and in the end they became much smaller while coal, dirt and other impurities were expelled, next they took different shapes, one became a large shield or disk, although it was big enough for all three of them to stand on, this disk took four of the eight liquid blobs to form but that wasn't it's final form yet, on the disk appeared strange shining glyphs and the symbols were engraved as it solidified, looking more like a strange artifact rather than a shield, the strange thing was that it looked like a flying platform now. The other four combined forming two strange balls, that were absolutely solid, but one could see the metalic shine from them, saying that they were very durable and trustworthy to use as weapons. For the duration of all this the skeleton knight didn't even move, as it seemed to tremble from fear.

"Galie, I will be leaving now, I don't think that your idea was bad, only that you don't calculate beforehand"

Darknym said as he disappeared.

The girls didn't know to be happy or to be mad since he had left them with a level 200 monster and had taken away their shields but once Galies metallic marbles begun assaulting the monster they felt relieved.

Galied used the platform for them to escape, it used up her Mp to move but it didn't matter too much since it levitated in place without using any magic.

Galie had tried to move it with Telekinesis but it was too heavy and too big to move not to say that it didn't want to move, so she would have to be much stronger to make it move or just use some magic.

"Why doesn't he die already I have been hitting him non stop for an hour now"

Galie frowned angrily, she had been hitting the knight for some time now(not an hour by all means) but it didn't seem to have much of an effect other than stunning him for some time or throwing him around.

"Galie could you park this floating thing on his head?"

Lidie asked suddenly, the thing was large so it could probably smash into him but its speed wasn't so fast as to shock an oponent, it was much too slow to be used as a weapon but it could still be used as a shield.

"Wait first explain why the spheres seem to not work at all"

Galie said somewhat irritated, after all it was her idea to create them as a weapon and it seemed a good idea at the time.

"It's not they are not working, it's that your psychic power is too low, the system considers them as a form of psychic attack, you have to let them go at the moment of impact and catch them afterwards"

Mary who also used telekinesis said, she of course had strong telekinesis so she didn't need to do that but somewhere in the start she too had to let the daggers go, to do physical damage to the oponent.

"By the way, how do you raise your psychic power, or the Ki thingie"

Lidie asked, knowing that Mary had probably already maxed it out.

"Well it isn't a secret all you need to do is some stupid meditation and if you want more go become a monk"

Mary said as she laughed imagining Galie and Lidie with a shaved head.

They were now playfully talking atop the levitating platform while the metallic balls were dominating the skeletal knight, the reason why she did too little damage before was because the monsters too have some psychic resistances and her ki was rather low to do any significant damage.

"Why did I gain only half the experience?"

Galie asked surprised as the ball had now crushed the skeleton knight, the system simply didn't aknowledge the ball as a valid weapon, but some sort of indirect way of killing a monster, the same went for traps and some other types of indirect killing methods, even poison gave only half experience when employed to kill someone after all.
