《A Technomaniac in Another World (Prototype)》{Arc II} Chapter 13 – Look at the Possibilities!

After a week of slacking, I finally decided to move. I mean, this week of resting, I was in the guild’s library. For what? To search of course.
Name’s Kenji by the by. I was summoned to this world, called Oros, on a very boring Monday. I was brought to this world together with my classmates, and after checking our status, a staple on an Isekai, I was tossed out.
I had an Abnormal Status Condition, where my status would grow at a very slow pace. Not only that, but the skills too. Also, I had a very low Luck stat. In fact, it is lower than the one recorded at the Library of the Adventurer’s Guild. The lowest Luck that it ever existed, was 50. Mine was even lower than that, only 15.
What exactly was I searching for in the Library, you may ask? About some skills. To be more specific, Alchemy, Transmutation and Smithy. Oh, and also about Enchantments.
I wanted to make my own things, and of course, it was important to have a bit of technology on it. Unfortunately though…
“It doesn’t have anything very specific.”
My searches have been utterly useless on the prospect. Well, at least my [Researcher] Class is now Maxed out, and, fused with the [Student] class, it evolved into the [Scholar] Class. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t all that useless, just not very productive.
“Well, at least the class is kinda interesting. I got the [Quick-Response] skill with it.”
[Quick-Response], is a skill that makes your thought process slightly fast. It isn’t THAT fast, though its evolved forms are. [Quick Thought-Processing] and then into [Accelerated Thought-Processing]. The books at the library said that from response to processing, it's 2 times, and to Accelerated is 4 times that. Pretty neat.
Then, there’s Alchemy. The thing about Alchemy, is that no one ever shares their discoveries. They maybe give some little information about Artifacts and Relics, but they never share how they do that. Or how to make one. If you want that, you would need to search for someone who would teach you that.
And that takes me to the Alchemist’s Lair. Again.
“I already said that, I won’t take you as an apprentice.”
I wasn’t only slacking off this entire week, okay. I was also trying to make the Little Fairy to take me as her apprentice. Nonetheless, she didn’t accept it.
“Why not?”
“Because the last one, robbed me of some of my artifacts.”
“And why do I care about magic artifacts? Most of them need to use mana, which I want to make some that will not rely on it.”
“What? You need mana for everything.”
“Not exactly, if you can produce electricity sufficiently enough, you would be able to power it up.”
“Hmmm…”
She looked curious about what I said. Wait, seriously? No other-worlder ever said that? She started humming much more, probably trying to make use of what I just said. After some thought, she sighed and shook her head.
“Fine. But you won’t have any kind of rights regarding some of the artifacts you make. At least, not until I give you authorization.”
“Fair enough.”
I should have done that from the beginning. I clicked my tongue internally, and she let me in on her workshop. I whistled as soon as I entered. The workshop was huge. It had many more books around it, and with countless objects related to chemistry.
“Do. Not. Touch. Anything.”
She said that, as I was about to touch one Becker with some red liquid inside of it. I let it aside, and walked towards a table. When I look towards the Little Fairy, she puts 4 books on the table. Needless to say, all 4 books were bigger than an encyclopedia.
“Uhmmmm…”
“Read these first. After that, we will start.” She said with a smile. “And also, your gauntlets. Take them off.”
Reluctantly, I took them off, and put them on the table she pointed to.
“Can I let Kasumi and Amara off my shadow?”
“Who’s Amara?”
“See for yourself.”
As I say that, both Kasumi and Amara came out of my shadow. Seeing Amara, the Witch's eyes were widened. She took a step backwards, and pointed towards Amara.
“What is it?” I asked, tilting my head to the side.
“She is…”
“Yep. The thing I defeated to grab the Venom you asked me.”
(Could Master please, not treat me as a thing?)
“Can it speak?!”
“Yes, it can. Anyway, for now, Amara, you train your [Human Disguise] skill as much as you can. As for Kasumi… Well, take a nap.”
(Master!)
Ignoring Amara’s complaint, I started to read the books. And boy, that was a lot of things to take.
All the books had information about Artifacts and Relics. Simply put, Artifacts are man made things. Artifacts are made in the actual days, but they’re basically a copy of Relics. Basically a replica.
As for Relics, they’re very different. They cannot be re-made, but you can make something alike. They are everything found in dungeons, and are sold at quite a high price.
To differentiate a Relic from an Artifact, is quite simple. The way they were made. Artifacts have runes, using present language. As for Relics, they have {Ancient}, {Spirit} or {Divine} Language Runes on them.
“Most of the Artifacts have Japanese on them. And even some have Chinese and Latin letters on them as well.”
There were others with English, Portuguese, Russian and other letters on them, but every single one of them were actually… How to put it? Simple. They were made simply to help the day-to-day tasks.
A vacuum cleaner, lamps, a ventilator, and so on. But they were never something very impressive. I mean, the most impressive one was a telephone. You know, those old table phones. You put a bit of mana on them, and the other one, which is with someone else, receives a message. It’s not even live, it's like leaving a message.
But alas, the only ones who utilize them these days, are only the Guild Masters, and Nation leaders. The good thing though, is that the message is instantaneous. You leave the message, and the other side receives it the moment you put your phone back on the holder.
These were Artifacts. But the others, which use {Spirit}, {Ancient} and {Divine} letters, these were Relics. Oh, and the bag I found on the Dungeon, is an Artifact. These are the most common ones you can find in a dungeon. Not only that, but it is something anyone can find or already have!
Anyway, the Relics. They’re much more interesting. Each language provides different things. {Ancient} Relics are from an old civilization in the north. It is said they worshiped the sun, and their lands were very cold.
Their Relics provided mainly protection against beasts and monsters. And also high and low temperatures. Also, the Caidrum ore was in this book I was reading. Caidrum is considered half relic, half artifact. You can make the ingot, and also find it in nature.
“The original ore, before transforming into Caidrum, has a silvery color. The white Caidrum is usually found in cold regions, and the black one in hot ones. Silvery color? Wait. Isn’t that chromium? The mana changes the ore huh? Exquisite.”
And the book keeps up. As for the {Spirit} Relics, they use the Spirit's power. They are mainly composed of tools, weapons, and clothes using the power of the Spirits. In short, they use the power of the Elements in these Relics. They are mainly found in Dungeons where spirits dwell.
And last but not least. {Divine} Relics. They all have [Holy Magic] on them. In fact, all Divine Relics are in possession of the churches of the world. There are some adventurers who have some of those Relics, but as soon as the church has news of a new {Divine} Relics, they buy from the adventurers.
“There are also {Nether} Relics?”
“Of course there is.” The Witch answered me. “But don’t go out and shout about it. It’s a taboo.”
“Why?”
“Because all {Nether} Relics did something catastrophic in the past. Even one of them is what caused what happened in the forest close to the city. The actual Emperor used one, and after that, no {Nether} Relic was ever used anymore.”
After she said that, she resumed her analysis of my gauntlets.
“After you finish your analysis, you better put it all back together.”
She waved her hand and kept analyzing. She dismantled the two gauntlets, and was fiddling with them.
About {Nether} Relics. As the witch said, they have catastrophic effects. In fact, there’s only 5 ever recorded.
One is the {Tidal Hell}. A relic that can conjure a giant wave of poisonous water, and destroy even a continent with it. Basically, a tsunami of poison.
{The Warmonger Orb}. Simple effect. It gives power, but demands the soul of the user as an exchange. When the soul is completely siphoned, it adds power to the Orb. It was this one that Goldguard used, apparently. How is he alive?
The last three, were respectively, a pendant in the format of a pizza, a Sword with the living soul of one of Gilgamesh’s generals, and lastly, was… A living being.
“A living being?”
The living being was actually a Vampire, sealed within the past in a dungeon of some sorts. In fact, it wasn’t only a vampire, but a half-vampire half-demon. She was the daughter of the Vampire Lord, with a Demoness Lord. She had the two species capabilities, and was considered a living Artifact.
“If such beings are liberated, the world shall be plunged into chaos. What the hell is this kind of threat?” After that, the book gave some info about the other two, and… “And this is the end. Of the first book.”
The first book was to simply have a better understanding of what Artifacts and Relics do, and what they were. The Second book would explain more about each material, and what the best enchantment is. The Third book would explain a bit more of how to make an Artifact, and the last one was a list of names of Artifacts.
“No wonder she wouldn’t want to have an apprentice.”
I took the second book. It was a little bit smaller than the first one. Just a bit. I think it is only 50 pages. I guess each book would have more than 400 pages. 200 Sheets of paper, huh?
As I was about to start reading the book, the Little Fairy walked towards me, giving me a bowl, with some food.
“Eat. It’s noon already.”
“Wow. I do really get lost through time when I’m focused, huh?”
As I grab the bowl, and start to eat, which is a soup by the way, the witch brings a bowl with some green liquid to Amara, and a bowl with meat to Kasumi. She sat down on the table with me, pushing the books to the left.
“I’m impressed as well. And just with you reading the book, you gained a title.”
I took my guild card, and sure enough, the title [Apprentice of the Little Fairy] was there. I shrugged and kept eating.
The soup wasn’t bad. In fact, it was tender, and had a bit of meat chunks on it. It had a sweet finish, but it was really delish nonetheless.
“Hm. I wanted to ask, but… This little fox… Kasumi, right?” I nodded. “She is the daughter of the Fox-Goddess, Yuki right?”
I tilt my head to the side. Her question wasn’t wrong, but the way she said, made me understand that it had more than one Fox-Goddess.
“And yes, there is more than one Fox-Goddess.”
“I see. Yes. She is. Why the question?”
“Hm. She has great potential, then.”
Kasumi turned around the witch, and used her tails to cover her body.
“Anyway, since you stopped, let me tell you this. You really are a freak.”
“Where did that come from?”
“Sigh… Simply put, your artifacts, those gauntlets, are something. They had two, small Magic Circuits, but they do exactly what you want.”
“Magic Circuits?”
“Yes. A Magic Circuit is basically something that allows the user to infuse mana, and the circuit will do what the user wants, based on the mana they’re providing at the moment.” She paused a bit. “Simply, the two Magic Circuits on those gauntlets are on the level of a simple Relic. And you used only steel on their build.”
She sighed in disbelief. I looked towards the two gauntlets, which were back in shape, and looked towards her.
“I see.”
“I see, my ass.” I glanced at her. “Okay sorry, that sounded more convincing in my head. But those two circuits, they are too small, but they work.”
“So?”
“It wasn’t supposed to. A circuit needs space, and mainly a metal with good magic affinity. Yours was made with steel. Which doesn’t even have the usual affinity.”
“I will see that in this next book, right?”
She nodded. I looked towards the book, finished my soup as fast as I could, and returned the reading. The witch took my bowl, and I was focused once again on the book.
The second book talked mainly of metal affinities to mana. Steel, Caidrum, Mythril, Hihi’irokane, Orichalcum and so on. Each one had a certain affinity to mana, and even what enchantment was the best to the material.
The book also contained what each metal was better used for. Example, the Caidrum ore, the black one. It was mainly used in hammers to the smithy, shields to fight fire related monsters, swords or poles to fire magic users, and other weapons as well.
This was the second ore that had a good affinity with fire. The first one being Wufril ore. It is the same ore that has on the Odyssey outfit, and it conducts heat very easily. In fact, the book stated that the Wufril ore can make a type of concentrated fire, which I believe is plasma.
But, the main ores, and their best uses, were as follows:
Orichalcum, Adamantite, Mythril, Black Caidrum, Wufril and Krelium – Any Melee weapon.
Mythril, Black and White Caidrum, Adamantite – Armor and Shield
Those were just to name a few. Incidentally, you could use them to make Alchemy catalysts, which are usually used in crafting some… how should I say? Dubious artifacts.
“Let’s not think about it.”
And I finished the book. I returned to one page, specifically, one with enchantments for Hihi’irokane. I could enchant it, with a [Holy Magic] effect. It was a very simple spell, actually. And I could mix with the already fire enchantment on my gauntlets.
“Hey, do you have a Holy enchantment book?”
The witch looked towards me, and pointed to the wall on my left, which was actually a big bookshelf with, of course, lots of books. The Holy Enchantment book wasn’t hard to find, since his color delivered him fairly easily.
I started to read the book, and found the Enchantment: [Holy Concession]. In short, this enchantment would simply give the Holy attribute to the target of the spell.
“I see. Purify those who are struck by thy blade. |Holy Concession|”
I targeted Amara, which was in her small serpent form on the table. She looked towards me, and her body was shrouded in a white light, with some dots of gold here and there.
“I see. I think I can make this happen.”
“What are you gonna do?” The Witch asked.
“Since the Blood Moon has just arrived, I was thinking of having at least some kind of Holy weapon, to fight the vampires. I know that fire is also the third thing, just after the Light Attribute, but what if you mix the Holy aspect with the Fire one?”
She arched one of her brows, and kept observing me. She even got up from her seat, and walked towards the table where the gauntlets were.
I was about to dismantle the gauntlets, piece by piece, but the Witch used her spell to do that for me.
“Obey my will, and open thy self. |Disassemble|”
The two gauntlets started to float, and they all opened themselves, like a 3D model hologram, with all of its parts showing to me. Neat!
I took the blades floating, checking them, if there were cracks, if the blade was dulled, or even if the blade was chipped. It was a bit chipped in some parts, and the left one had a crack. I fixed and augmented it a bit, but if it cracked again, I would need to find more Hihi’irokane.
After that, I started the process of enchantment.
I focused on my mind the Enchantment and its effects, carefully to not overwrite the one already in the blade. I felt a prickling on my fingers, and kept the amount of mana on the blade in a steady flow. Just then, I started the incantation of the spell.
“Purify those who are struck by thy blade. |Holy Concession|.” I stopped, and then said the incantation of the Fiery Blade next. “Burn everything to cinders. |Fiery Blade|”
I felt a burning sensation on my hands. In fact, I’m sure that I really burned them. But I couldn’t stop. If I did so, the Enchantment would backfire. After that, I needed to come up with an incantation for the new enchantment, since I was basically mixing |Holy Conceivement| and |Fiery Blade|, into a new one.
“Got it. Purify them with the Flames of Heaven. |Holy Flaming Blade|”
When I opened my eyes, the usual orange blade, had now a… pink tinge on it.
“Pfft! Kukuku!”
“Well, it worked. I guess. What if I give more mana to it?”
I put my words into actions, and gave more mana to the two blades. The blade had gone from the pink, to a turquoise color.
“Koff… What? Why Turquoise?”
“Usually, when you feed more mana to fire, what happens?”
“It can become Blue Fire. Oh!”
“You got the idea. So this blade now has a third circuit, right?”
I deactivated the blade’s spell, and the Witch analyzed both the gauntlets, and the blades. Since the way I used the blades was basically the same, I just needed to connect the third circuit to the already existing Mana circuit.
One circuit on the Gauntlets, was for the mana input to push the blades out, and pull them in. The other was for the [Fiery Blade] enchantment. And now, the [Holy Flaming Blade] was connected as well.
“The same. Small. Circuit. How do you do this?”
She looked towards me. I took my phone out of my pocket, and showed her an image. At least it has a bit of charge yet. Maybe I can charge the phone with a lightning spell?
“What is this? A spell?”
“No. This is just a normal thing in my world.”
“These are magical circuits?”
The image I showed to her was of a circuit board. In short, what I did was use a PCB to put the enchantments on the gauntlets. The PCB had a big golden part in the middle, and the Witch searched for it on the gauntlet parts.
To be honest, I did that part unconsciously. It was like, automatic when I did. Only when I finished the gauntlets did I notice that.
“Here. So this part is like… The center of things?”
“Consider it a HUB of some kind.”
“HUB?”
“It’s the same thing as a plaza, in the center of a town.”
She nodded, and then she said another spell, but to the gauntlets to assemble themselves.
“Obey my will, and closes thy self. |Assembling|”
“Really? Just a single word in difference?”
“Quiet.”
She watched me put the gauntlets back, and I made the test to see if anything would happen with my arms.
“Purify them with the Flames of Heaven. |Holy Flaming Blade|”
The blades weren’t hot, nor cold. They were warm, and when I cut a bit of my hand…
“It cut, but healed right after.”
“That’s already on a high price. People would pay more than 25 Gold coins for it. Can you replicate it?”
The witch was in full business mode right now. What the hell?
“I mean, I could, but how about making them with Mythril instead of Steel? More light, plus more resistant. Aw, shit.”
I made a huge mistake! She broke a run to one of her tables and started to make calculations, and drawings and… She started to drool and pant while doing so. What the? Is this woman sane?
“Okay. Kasumi, Amara. Let’s get the hell outta here. See ya tomorrow!”
Kasumi and Amara jumped on my shadow, and I got out of there. It was already night, and she would, without a doubt, make me stay and start working on the thing. Nope. Thank you.
It was already night when I came out of the shop. Looking around, I could see some places with some kind of smoke coming from the windows. Incense? Now that’s something interesting.
The smell had a garlic flavor to it, and quite strong actually. Looking up, I got a grasp of the beautiful red moon on the black sky.
“And to think it would be exactly like T*rr*ria.”
When the week started, I heard the voice of the status system saying the same things about the Blood Moon.
◙ THE BLOOD MOON HAS ARISE! ◙
I almost choked with the soup I was eating at the moment. But to tell you the truth, this event isn't like the one on Earth. In fact, it doesn’t make any shocking sense.
First of all, it’s not like the moon turned red, because of the sun rays. No. It’s even more different. There are, in fact, three celestial bodies around Oros.
A White one, which is simply the moon. A red one, also considered the Moon of the Demons. And lastly, a Golden one. But make no mistake. It isn’t like the full moon on Earth. It’s literally a golden celestial body in the sky, shining like the sun.
They call it the Realm of the Gods. Not that I understand it, but it’s… how should I say? Strange.
(Master! Behind you!)
Right as I was focused on the moon, Kasumi warned me. I instantly ducked, and a strange figure passed right above me. I glared at it, and saw a disgusting thing. It was the lowest type of the Vampire Familiars. A Ghoul.
“A ghoul. Hm?” I looked behind me. “Fuck. More than one. Purify them with the Flames of Heaven! |Holy Flaming Blade!|”
When I activated my blades, all of the Ghouls, with no exception, took a step backwards. So they’re afraid of this? C’mon, you’re in more numbers, idiots.
And as soon as I thought that, the Ghoul in front jumped towards me. He didn’t make any sound, simply lunged on me, with his reddish claws.
Ghouls are simply gross creatures. They are humans with low Mana capacity, and simply transformed to search and make more familiars for their leader. There are many, but their power is lower than mine. Alas…
“Fuck! It’s stronger!”
The Ghoul’s claws simply touched the blade, and pushed me backwards, but the Ghoul backed away. So he can’t maintain prolonged physical contact.
“Alright. I want to eat something, and sleep, so let’s end quickly.”
I rushed to the ghoul in front of me, slashing his neck. To be honest, I thought I would find more resistance, you know? But no. The blade simply passed through the Ghoul’s neck, killing it in one blow.
“Hunh. Right. Line up! It’ll be easier like this!”
I turned around, and the Ghouls shivered. They took one step backwards, another. And broke a run for their lives. Well, for their unlives, I think.
I looked at the Ghoul’s ashes and Magic Core. It was bigger than a Goblin’s, and with a purplish red color to it. I grabbed the Core, and shoved it on the bag I got previously. I also took a pot, which I bought before, storing the Ghouls ashes on it.
It is said that the ashes can be used to make potions to heal a specific illness that is transmitted by Vampires, and fetches a very nice price. So~
“Let’s go. I’m starving.”
