《This Game We Call Life》chapter 64: damned

Chapter 64
After a day of flying, much shorter than it would have taken either by ship or by blimp, I get dropped off on the alfalm continent. After asking around I find that I am in the wrong port city, the one I’m looking for is on the other side of the continent, a democracy, a republic, and a kingdom away. I’m sick of hitching rides so I begin to walk on my own, the wildlife here either is too weak to be a threat or strong enough to be an interesting challenge. After alternating between walking and running for two and a half days I come across a band of young, low ranking monsters. They were creatures that normally had nothing to do with each other than fighting each other. They all also seemed to be much smarter than others of their kind, which would explain there collaboration.
I followed them for about an hour before showing myself, they were heading in the same direction I was. I listened to their conversations; they seemed to know each other in another life, talking about things that are very obviously from another world. Like nuclear bombs, I know what a bomb is but I’ve never heard of a nuclear one. After looking at their souls I realize that they are damned, like the lightling from the train. When I finally showed myself they reacted excitedly.
“Hey, this guy looks like he’s got some nice gear.” hobgoblin
“Lets take it, maybe we will find an interdementional bag, and I remember reading about them. I would love to get an actual inventory.” Orc
“The kids probably some noble, we can take him.” Troll
Four of the group of five attacked at once, with the fifth being something like a healer. The orc wielded a large rusty sword that was almost as wide as he was; it looked like it used to be a pretty nice blade before it was abandoned. The hobgoblin used two daggers, pretty good quality, a mithral steel alloy, probably took it off of a dead merchant or young noble who wanted to start adventuring. The troll wielded a wooden bow. The last one was a mage, it was a greater slime. The healer was a pink slime.

I spent about ten minutes observing how they fought, and I was surprised. They were very proficient for their age, as well as being extremely well organized. They even managed to get a couple of hits on me when I wasn’t paying attention to dodging or blocking.
“I’m impressed, for ones so young you are rather skilled with your chosen weapons.” Jack
“Tch. This guy’s strong, switch to plan B.” troll
Suddenly the hobgoblin teleported behind me and attacked my arm rapidly, faster than he should have been able to, likely used a skill. I wasn’t expecting that to happen, at all. With the combination of the decent quality daggers and a skill he probably trained to death my right arm was removed, right at the shoulder. I quickly seal the open wound with fire magic before taking out a hand and a half sword, I quickly kill the obviously exhausted hobgoblin.
“I apologize for going easy on opponents like you, my mistake.” Jack
I decide to end this fight quickly. I decapitate the troll, which would easily bypass their pesky regeneration. I kill off all the others in similar fashion before all that was left was the healer.
“If you guys want your gear back you’re going to have to come back here, I’ll give you a day before I just take it for myself. Tell your friends, I have some questions I want you to answer.” Jack
I then stab the pink slime through the core, basically the brain, only for slimes. I am pretty sure they will come back, they are damned after all, and I am pretty sure they aren’t undead or construct. And they have some decent gear, nothing compared what I have, but it would be lucrative to come back and get it.

I decide to start trying to heal my amputated arm, I am not skilled enough in healing magic to reattach my arm, but I could regrow it, it would take me weeks to fully grow it but I could start. I begin to meditate, this time focusing on the movement of my mana instead of my mind or soul. There are tons of things you can focus on when you meditate; you just have to be aware of them in your body. I move my mana around my body so that it rejuvenates it, I really don’t know exactly what is happening, just how to do it. Flooding my body with mana patterned to regenerate and heal, and circulating it around my body, letting it linger around the stump of my right arm, causing growth there, or at least that’s what I was instructed to do. Various cuts and other wounds around my body begin to itch and slowly close up, my arm stump itches the most and if I wasn’t meditating I would struggle to not scratch it.
‘Heh, they were pretty good. If they had more stat points we might have been in trouble.’ Emotion
‘I might be able to recruit them to our army, and if I’m right there are many more like them and that lightling. If so they probably have a way of communicating with each other. We could profit a lot from this.’ Logic
‘All I understand from that is that there will be more powerful people to fight sounds fun’ emotion
After about 19 hours of meditation I get hungry so I take a break to eat.
as a result of your meditation session you have gained +5 mana capacity, +.01% magic efficiency
I got out some dried boar jerky and started to eat. After I was done eating I started to meditate again, at the 22 hour mark the monsters finally showed up again, wearing little more than leaves.
End chapter 64
sorry for the long delay, i have had many things on my plate. which i know isn't much of an excusse, i've had the time to write but i just didn't want to. don't worry the only three things that could get me to end this story is my death, a lot of money, and getting to the actual end i have planed for it, it just might take a while to get there.
