Chapter 11
"Kill him" martin
At his word all the corpses started shambling towards me.
"Oh yah I forgot to mention, I am a necromancer apprentice" martin
I try to hit him through the mana wall with magic but the only thing that works is campfire, guess no one would bother blocking that spell. Needless to say his cloths light up and he quickly drops on the ground and rolls over.
"You bastard I would watch your ex schoolmates instead of me if I were you" martin
I cast campfire on him again and get a cooking level up.
When I turn around I see that the shambling horde almost reaching me. I quickly use observe on one of them.
zombie: level 10 hp: 500/500 mp: 0/0 sp infinity/infinity>
Description: this is the zombie of a 17 year old girl who used to be called Rosalina, the creator was a master necromancer weaknesses: holy strengths: elemental magic
I cast fire storm using three times the normal amount of mana. A couple of the zombies turn to ash but the majority of them take on average of 100 damage. If all of the corpses of students were hear that would mean that there would be close to 9,000 zombies. That’s not even counting the faculty. I position myself to have my back facing the mana wall and I notice that martin had already left. I can't win this fight.
"Well this fucking sucks" jack
I slash out at one of the zombies and find that it's brittle.
"Lucky the fire might not have done much damage but it did make them weaker" jack
I suddenly felt a slash on my left arm; I quickly cut the zombies legs off with butcher.
"I might not win the fight but I might be able to survive at least, damn I wish at least ghost was here, this level of attack would feel like a message to her while her fur would shred them" jack
I started concentrating on using butcher on their arms and legs I made a small mound of them within 10 minutes, which I stood on to get higher ground. While I was fighting a thought came to me, why don't I use butcher on their necks? With my new height would be easier than cutting off their arms and legs, and faster.
Skill butcher ranked up to superior butcher
I realize that some of my mana has returned so I cast fire storm again, dealing about 30 damage each, not enough.
After about 10 more minutes I start to get tiered. I take a grazing hit on my arm, on my thigh, on the side of my face. I get hit more as time goes by. After about 5 minutes I hear a roar and see an undead Minotaur rushing at me.
"Shit" jack
I brace myself for the attack as I see bodies fly in the Minotaur’s wake. When it hits me I feel my back hit something hard and then that hard thing shatters, it was the mana wall. I tuck my head between my arms and roll over the soft ground, quickly recovering I run as fast as I can back to the base. The zombies slowly chase me but they quickly fall behind. I feel my legs burn and I am completely exhausted, but I ignore it and keep running.

When I reach the cave I rest against the cave wall and I contact the girls.
'I knew you wouldn't die on me' ghost
'What happened?' Johanna
'Martin he...' jack
'Figures it was him' Johanna
"Hey I’m going out for a minute" ghost
"Where are you going?" martin
"It’s rude to ask a girl where she’s going" ghost
Ghost comes out and turns into her wolf form and comes over to me and starts to lick the wounds on my left arm, they seem to glow and it feels soothing.
'What are you doing?' jack
'Healing your wounds with my bestial magic, although for some reason this spell only works while I’m in wolf form' ghost
'Thanks' jack
'You don't have to thank me, your my master after all, take your shirt off' ghost
After taking my shirt off she began on the wounds on my chest.
'I’m sorry I couldn’t do this in demon-wolf form' ghost
'No, my thoughts are going crazy as it is' jack
'I know I am inside your head after all' jack
By that time she was done with the wounds on my chest and started on my back.
'This is pretty useful' jack
'Yeah it is, but it's useless in a fight' ghost
After about 5 minutes she was done with all of my wounds and I was up to full stamina.
For surviving against an army all alone you are rewarded with the title veteran
'I haven't felt this good in forever, thanks ghost' jack
'Tehe' ghost
"Open up please" ghost
I cast invisibility on myself and sneak back into the cave where I see martin training with a sword against the dummy I made. I use butcher on his hand after he swings his sword.
"ahhhhh. You, you're still alive. How?" martin
He looked terrified as clean the blood off on his sleeve. By now the twins were staring at me.
"You tried to kill me, the punishment for that is nothing short of a slow death." Jack
"What? I don't know what you’re talking about" martin
As he said that nervously I cut off his other hand.
"Bluffing means nothing to me" jack
Before he could say anything I cut his forearms off and his left leg. He tried to tackle me; I dodge to the left and cut his arm off through the shoulder.
"Oh I know, ghost" jack
"Yes" ghost
"Heal his wounds, I don't want him to die too soon" jack
"Why are you doing this to me?" martin
"I told you tried to kill me" jack
"If you had just died I could have gotten Johanna" martin
"No, you wouldn’t have. I would have fought until either I died or the thing that killed him did" Johanna
I waited until all of his wounds had been healed and I drove my dagger into his right shoulder and twisted it, then I stabbed him in-between the legs. I wiped my dagger off on his cloths before lighting him on fire. I let him burn there screaming. Suddenly the screaming stopped. The fire continued to burn for a minute or two before it burnt out and all that remained was ash.

The twins were staring at me while the brother was shielding his balls.
"The punishment for trying to kill me or someone close to me is death, I am not going to hurt you" jack
They both just nod silently.
"Alright back to training" Johanna
"How are you three so strong" Joe
"What do you mean?" jack
"You don't hesitate, ever. You are completely calm when faced with death, and..." Joe
"I’m just an apathetic person, that isn't strength" jack
"I think something changed when I became a monster, death just feels normal to me." Johanna
"We’re strong because master has helped us be strong" ghost
"The hell happened here" Selena
"Oh you're awake" Joe
"of course I’m awake, I had a horrible nightmare of being surrounded by screaming banshees trying to eat my soul and then I wake up to you covered in blood and a suspiciously shaped pile of ash, with martin no wear to be seen" Selena
"That pile of ash is martin" sally
"What?" Selena
"He tried to kill me, then I killed him" jack
"I see" Selena
Everyone looked at me with a mixture of awe, respect, and fear (or pride for ghost).
"What is everyone looking at we need to prepare to assault a cave filled with 1000s of zombies" jack
"First tell us everything beginning to end" Jacobe
So I tell them how we followed tracks of a couple zombies. How we met Johnson. How when we got to the room with all of the zombies in it. How he locked me in there, how I fought with the zombies and got thrown against the then weakened wall by a zombie Minotaur. How I ran despite my sheer exhaustion and injuries. I left out the part of me enjoying torturing my would be murder to death
"You went through a lot, huh" Selena
"As far as I know no one I care about has died, so if anything I’m better off than you" jack
"What are the stats on the zombies?" ghost
"They are resistant to elemental magic and weak to holy magic" jack
"I know holy magic" selena
"Wait, you just killed someone" sally
"Yeah, so" jack
"You don't feel anything? Regret? Remorse? Joy?" sally
"It’s strange I thought I would feel something but I don’t kind of an empty feeling. Not bad but not good, just indifferent" jack
*sigh*"well, that’s good, I guess. Not the indifferent part but the part about not feeling joy after killing him. I don't think I could follow someone who enjoys killing people." sally
"Back to the task at hand, what about the other zombies, not the human ones but the monster ones" ghost
"I know nothing about them except for the fact that they are much stronger than the human zombies, like comparing a match to a bonfire" jack
"A pile of matches the size of a mountain burns brighter than the bonfire, how many normal zombies are there?" Johanna
"I would guess around 9000 simply because that is close to the number of students that are, or rather ware, at our school." jack
"Sally, Jacobe, what are your specialties, if any" ghost
"I use healing magic" sally
"I can't use any magic, but I’m good with a bow, or any ranged weapon for that matter" Jacobe
"And I, as you've seen for yourself, am handy with a hatchet, or any ax type weapon" joe
So that means its ghost in the vanguard, me, Johanna, and joe in the mudguard, and sally and selena in the rearguard.
"Lets move out, no point in hanging around here all day" ghost
After walking for about 30 minutes Joe came up to me and started asking me questions.
"You said the punishment for harming someone you care about is death, right?" Joe
"Yes" jack
"Who are the people you care about?" Joe
"My companions and the people who raised me" jack
"Speaking about that, I wonder how aunty is doing" Johanna
"Don’t worry about her, she’s a hard ass bitch, she could solo this dungeon in a single day" jack
"Whose aunty?" ghost
"She’s the one who's been taking care of us since we came down the mountain." Johanna
"What mountain?" sally
For the next couple hours Johanna and I tell our companions about how we were raised on a mountain by monks.
"Remember that time a wild boar chased us all the way to the foot of the mountain?" Johanna
"Ah I remember that, at the bottom you twisted your ankle and couldn’t walk so I had to carry you back up" jack
"After that you wouldn’t wake up for three days. I thought you were dead!" Johanna
"What about the part we threw for masters 105th birthday?" jack
"I asked what he wanted and he told me 'I want a room full of beautiful women that I can do anything I want to'" Johanna
"Then his wife came and tied him up and whipped him on the spot"*laughs* jack
"I miss those guys" Johanna
"Same, tell you what, let’s have a family reunion when we get out of here" jack
"Can I come and meat masters family?" ghost
"Of course you can, in fact everyone’s invited" jack
"It seems interesting" sally
"I’ll follow my silly" Jacobe
"I told you not to call me that!" sally
"I don't see why not" selena
"Sweet" Joe

She doesn't like being told what to do. He knows what’s best for her. She is fiercely independent but he is determined to save her, whether she likes it or not. Del and Nyssa live two very different lives and that’s the way Nyssa likes it. She is beholden to no one so when Del comes knocking on her door, she sends him on his way with a wink and a sarcastic “yeah, right.” When that doesn’t work, she bolts. She just wants to live her normal life; gambling with fairies (the not-so-nice kind), befriending ghouls and painting the future all over the whitewash. No boy is going to get in the way of that. Excerpt: He snagged her wrist gently before she could flounce away, his fingers warm and firm. “You need to come with me, girl,” he said earnestly. “I don't need to do anything.” She was indignant. She knew that sometimes her kind of abilities could be unruly but Nyssa was quite capable of taking care of herself. She’d lived with her abilities since she was thirteen. She’d learned to handle them herself. “It’s dangerous for you to be on your own,” Del said, tightening his grip on her wrist. She pulled her arm from his grip and he let her go. He could force her to go with him, she knew, but he wouldn’t. “I don’t need your help, Superman.” She didn’t look at him. “I’ll be back in a week,” he said, ignoring her protests. “Be ready to leave with me.” He breezed past her, discarding the necklaces he still held on the desk and leaving. Nyssa sighed, watching his back as he disappeared down the street. “Fat chance, Superman.”

But as she works to stay alive and uncover the island's secrets, she becomes aware of something very troubling. There is someone else on the island, someone not quite human, a creature with glowing red eyes watching her from the shadows. And though the creature seems benevolent, perhaps even friendly, Nuriel is not about to let her guard down. After all, every stranger is an enemy, and there is nothing more dangerous than the attention of another person.

8 97Faeos Book One: The Stuff of Legends
A ragtag assemblage of adventurers, scraped together by seeming circumstance, investigate the theft of an ecologically essential artifact. In so doing, they find themselves embroiled (as adventurers so often do) in the larger machinations of a mischevious gnome, a determined mage or three, and a dire threat to their homes. Based on a homebrew Pathfinder campaign begun several years ago, and still running. Faeos is one part combat, one part character building, and one part entirely justified silliness. Blame any lead character weirdnesses on my players, whom I love. Blame everything else on me. Oh, and yes, this should also be tagged "Unreliable Narrator."
