《Transient Fire Works》Prologue to Chapter 23: Stealing From the Heavens

By next morning, there was no signs of Jin. While they were all asleep, everything that’d belonged to him was gone. Clothes, menial items and other belongings; No matter what it was, it was gone. This left a sour feeling within Meracle’s mouth. ‘Grrr…. Idiot! Why must you make small problems into big ones!?’ She inwardly grumbled. It was because she said something she did not intended that caused all this. Meracle was angrier that Jin left with slumped shoulders. It made things looked like it was completely her fault.
Jin, who was watching from a far off distance, sighed to himself.
‘Hmmm? Lover’s quarrel?’ Lucian came out form Jin’s mind.
‘… Nope. Just granting her wish Lucian.’ He answered back.
‘. . . I don’t see the point Jin. Why must you make the problem so big? Can’t you just go back?’ Lucian frowned.
Jin smiled because of Lucian’s inability to see. ‘Ha ha! If it was that simple Lucian. I’m being threatened to leave every day if I mess up. The contract between me and her is like servant and master contract. My line of works cannot have such a troublesome restriction. Which is why I have to terminate that contract now.’
‘Huh. . . you’re right. You are an underworld ruler, but that would mean nothing if you have a weakness exposed. Not bad… Just could’ve done it in another way…’ Lucian muttered.
‘Well, there was another purpose to this Lucian. Heh heh’ Jin looked wicked as he said this.
This got Lucian’s curiosity. ‘Oh? What is that?’
‘… To see if she does like me.’ Jin answered simply. ‘If she doesn’t like me, then the meeting in the future will have no meanings’
‘*Tch* Schemer. I knew you were wicked. But that is just low.’ Lucian grumbled. ‘But an untested love is the weakest type of love there is. So I guess you weren’t wrong.’
‘… Love can only be tested so much Lucian. I am only making sure she feels the same about me.’ Jin knew that he was playing a little dirty to reaffirm Meracle’s decision about him.
‘… So you do remember now’ Lucian mutters out in surprise.
‘Just a little. Ever since I’ve done qi training, my memories are coming back in pieces. They are slightly fragmented and blurred somewhat. But I can piece them together and get at least half of what happened to me in the past’ Jin admitted.
‘… You know you might remember everything Jin. You do know that it could mess you up right?’ Lucian warned.
‘A risk that I’ll have to take. Some things comes at a price. Some things take efforts. Those souls I saw when I met you guys… those were the people I’d killed in the past Lucian. Don’t even try to hide it. They already numbered over the fifth digit and were calling me in my qi training.’ Jin sighed.
‘*inhales*exhales* I see. Then I guess I don’t need to hide much more from you in the future. Just wondering Jin. If one day you want to remember everything, I can give you your memories back since you’ve shown that you are still… you as of now’ Lucian said and then returned back into Jin’s mind.
This got Jin to wonder. ‘What does he mean by if I am still me? Never mind. I still got business to take care of. At least now, I can kill without the hesitation. But… the methods of killing I’d used in the past. It is only a small portion of my old demonic self. I wonder what’d happen if I do return to my old self? Will I really change that much?’

Back within Jin’s mind…
Lucian came back looking grim.
‘What’s wrong Lucian? Ate something bad?’ Ban spoke to him in a friendly manner. Ban was eating an apple in one hand and a banana in the other.
‘He is remembering things now. It is not even due to the broken Cyan seal either. He said that ever since he’d done qi training, the pieces of memories are coming back’ Lucian’s face looked ashen as he said this.
When Ren heard this, his voice boomed. ‘What!? So soon? It has barely been a week since he got back! What the hell is going on? He can’t! He shouldn’t even be able to progress so fast!’
‘Then we must stop his qi training for a while! If he gets everything back now… Never mind that. We might as well seal his memories again.’ Ban started to suggest ideas to them.
‘No good. If we do that now, then everything else we’ve done before would become meaningless’ Lucian shook his head at the ideas.
‘… Sh*t you’ve got to be kidding me. He just came back and he rarely gets a break!’ Ban cursed out loud.
‘Actually, it might be better if he was left as is guys’ a different voice came out.
‘Assimilator… You think it is a good idea to leave him as is? Are you nuts?’ Ren was baffled at the suggestion.
‘I have a name as well beside assimilator too you know. *sigh* My point is, Jin isn’t a person who would run away from his responsibilities. If push comes to shove, he would need those memories. Even if they might destroy who he is now. He needs them in the future should the heavenly beings might actually come in contact with him. Those responsibilities that he carries will help him become someone greater. At best, we can slow down his memories. We can slow down the pace that he regains those memories.’ The assimilator said.
‘I hope that you are right assimilator.’ Lucian gloomily said.
‘… Since when have I been wrong?’ the assimilator had a confident look on his face. ‘Look Lucian. The fact that his memories are coming back faster means that his job as an underworld ruler would be easier. He won’t be shaken by just killing people anymore. I mean, he killed near the sixth digit.’
‘Do you know what you are saying!? You are treating lives too lightly assimilator!’ Lucian shouted.
‘Yeah. I am. Know why? It is also because those nine hundred and ninety nine thousand and something lives were the cause of the depression. If that many people existed in this world and could only bring it down, then they are better off dead!’ The assimilator said resolutely. ‘Don’t you remember? It was also by their hands that ruined so many lives! They purposely tried to control people through many means! Even Jin, himself had to give up bits and parts of himself in order for others to be happier! What you are saying that we should value these scumbags! Not only scumbags, but unrecyclable scumbags!’
‘But they too are alive you know!’ Lucian roared back.
The assimilator could no longer hold it back and coldly roared, ‘So were the people they enslaved!’
‘!!!!’ When Lucian heard this, he didn’t have the will to fight back.
‘… Sorry Lucian. That was my fault. Didn’t mean to say that so straightforwardly.’ The assimilator apologizes.
‘No. You are not wrong assimilator. I’d almost forgot that very fact as well. I was being a hypocrite when I mentioned those bad people who deserved to die to Jin a while ago… to say that they are still living people is my fault…’ Lucian sadly said. ‘Which is why… I need to apologize first assimilator. Your thoughts are more clear-cut than mines’

‘… I already forgotten the matter. Don’t worry. Just don’t let Jin take too many lives or else… He will remember much more than needed if he does take too many lives. But the most dangerous is when he meets someone like him or someone much more evil than him. Don’t even let him get near those types of people’ the assimilator said to them. ‘To ensure that he stays that way as much as possible, we also need to push that annoying Meracle girl towards him. She is too indecisive about Jin. She is also still lingering around that Jason prick. I don’t know if he is her first boyfriend or one of the best ones she had, but we need her to be more resolute!’
Ban, Ren and Lucian nodded at the assimilator’s instructions.
‘Lastly… Lucian. I need you to help Jin pimp girls’ The assimilator embarrassingly said.
They all looked at him as if he was crazy.
‘What! Why are you all looking at me like that!?’ the assimilator felt like he was being insulted.
‘N-nothing. Just… never thought you would ask me to do that’ Lucian’s mouth was still hanging loose.
‘… Jin can stay himself as long as there are people around him. But he needs good people around him. He needs people that are still living around him to change his purpose in life. More than to just to be some heavenly servant. Which is why he needs many reasons to live. Just… don’t over kill it like you did with Ban. Ban got forty nine wives because of you and they-’
‘Oi! Don’t say it!’ Ban interrupted him. ‘Those forty-nine! Just don’t say it!’
‘Well, you get the point at least right?’ The assimilator felt bad but wanted to reaffirm the meaning behind his words.
‘I understand assimilator. Just… how many?’ Lucian evilly grinned.
‘… Get Jin… To make four girls his first. At least three. Mammon… eh… Still iffy about her. Gisela… don’t care. But Farrah, Rosa, and Mirana! But definitely Farrah!’ The assimilator emphasizes on Farrah. ‘She will be the one to stick with him in the end! I don’t care if Jin does become a pedophile! She looks legal!’
‘… Wow. . . So passionate… Don’t tell me you also like Farrah’ Lucian nudged the assimilator which made him blush.
‘W-what I am trying to do is to get trustworthy people around Jin! Mirana and Farrah is already on the top of the list. Rosa and Mammon are tied because they might be masochists. But Meracle and Gisela… Meracle is still… you already know so don’t ask about her. Gisela? She already got that Akira kid. Maybe Kyle as well. So don’t need to care about her.’ The assimilator quickly explains. ‘Meracle needs to be dealt with swiftly. Jin feels too strongly about her and only we know why. So we might as well give them a push! Okie-doki?’
‘Okie-doki? … Sounds too much like a kid… Forgot that you are also a part of us for a minute… *Pfft*” Ban laughed. The other figures also laughed out loud as well. Hell, even Lucian and Ren rolled on the floor laughing.
“S-shut up! Why is it no one takes me seriously when I say that!?’ The assimilator got mad when they all laughed at him.
‘Forget it assimilator. We’ll take your words seriously. Just… *Pfft* gyha ha ha ha ha!!! Don’t say those two words *pfft* Ah!!!!’ Ren cracked up laughing.
‘I hate you guys… Even if you guys are me…’ the assimilator said in tears. ‘Never mind the sh*ts and giggles. Just don’t giggle and sh*ts on the floor’ He grumbled.
‘Oh please. You know you love us like brothers. We’ll take your words seriously as…’ Lucian was trying his best to hold his laughter back in.
‘… *Sigh* Ren. Ban. On a more serious note, I’ll need your help. We’ll need to go to the higher planes to get some ingredients.’ The assimilator said to the two. ‘It is going to be necessary for Jin. It will help slow down his recollection and might just boost his qi training.’
‘Alright. Where are we going?’ the two said simultaneously.
‘We are… going to rob a few heavens on the eighth plane…’ He said. This made their faces twist into shock.
‘The what!? Rob heaven? Do you want Jin to experience Heaven’s lightning? Or have you forgotten the apocalypse that the heaven brought down before when you robbed them of the many plants and treasures!?’ Ban was scared. It wasn’t that it was impossible. But the number of angels, paragons of lights might just be a bigger pain. Ban went to the eighth heaven before and it was easy for him. Just going back down was harder than going up.
‘*Che* Whatever. Each of us has been to the ninth heaven before. Don’t know why you guys are such cowards. I’ll do it myself if I have to. But you guys already know what lies on the eighth plane don’t you? Jin is going to need that fruit and a few plants up there. Besides, they got an abundant amount. So what if a few hundred thousands of plants will be stolen. They still got a few billions more.’ The assimilator said as if it was nothing.
‘Fine. We’ll go up there with you. Just so you know, if it wasn’t for Jin, our ass would not be used and abused like this!’ Ren snorted.
‘Eh. Too much big talk. Let’s go!’ The assimilator laid both his hands on the two and they instantly got teleported to the eighth plane.
When the inhabitants of the heavens saw the three, their faces changed greatly. Everyone already knew the three as great heavenly opposers in their own respect and all of them ran away.
‘See? Not so bad. Every one is scared right?’ The assimilator joked.
‘… Yeah. To warn the other googols of heavenly inhabitants. Don’t forget the angels of light and paragons of light on our asses. Not that we can’t handle them. Just… Argh….’ Ban’s face twisted into pain when he remembered the last time he was up on the eighth plane.
‘Oh don’t worry. Heaven is just a collection of heroes who… might be as strong as us… So… all we have to do is run. Push come to shove, we kill. Simple right?’ The assimilator still looking like the whole thing was a joke.
Then, massive palms appeared above them and continuously came crashing down on the three.
‘OH SH*T WE”VE BEEN HIT!’ Ban screamed.
There were many inhabitants that wanted those guys dead. Which was why many of the inhabitants joined forces to get rid of them regardless of religions, culture differences, or even power level differences.
“!!! What the!?” one of them then saw that their powers were not having any effects on the three.
To be more precise, the assimilator, Ban, and Ren was swallowing up all the attacks going against them and turning it into pure energy.
‘Ah! That was a good meal. Haven’t eaten heavenly energy in a long time. Especially good food.’ Ban patted his stomach.
‘You kidding me? You are still holding a banana and an apple! You are still eating good food!’ Ren felt disgusted when he saw Ban’s big stomach.
‘Oh please. These came from hell. Tastes like desert sand mostly. But still fills my stomach somewhat.’ Ban snorted and ate the two fruits in one gulp. Then, his stomach rumbled and he turned around. “Watch out guys! I’m going to blow!” Ban warned loudly everyone. Lucian and the assimilator took cover instantly.
“What he say?” They couldn’t understand what was about to happen to them. Sadly, they probably would never understand because the all were too late to move out of the way.
From Ban’s rear, it summoned out an unholy wind with the forces that matches the heaven’s power.
*POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT*
The moment the heavenly inhabitants even touches the foul air, their eyes burned, their senses got screwed, goose bumps appeared on their skin, and they all began to drop like birds.
‘Oh sh*t Ban. I think you also killed some of them as well. Look! There is one choking right now and foaming from the mouth!’ the assimilator pointed to the unlucky lonely one to still be awake and alive.
‘Oops… Should I kill him?’ Ban scratches his head.
‘Nah. Let him be. Poor guy will probably be scarred for the rest of his life without knowing why…’ Ren felt pity for the guy.
From below, he was screaming, “Kill me! Kill me now! Just kill me!!!!’
‘Sad way to die… Even sadder that he still is living… Oh well.’ The assimilator shrugged and pulls out a bottle from thin air. With great force, he took the bottle and threw it down to the choking man. ‘Don’t worry. Inside is a memory eraser. He’ll be fine.’
But the man wasn’t fine. Instead, he was screaming even louder.
‘Or maybe that was a nightmare potion… Oops…’ the assimilator stuck out his tongue.
Ban just felt so sorry for the guy that he had to wipe out his memories by himself. “Sorry ‘bout that. Just bad luck. Rest in peace”
‘Alright guys. Time to raid!’ the assimilator loudly declares via telepathy as he waves one of his hand. The three flew off to one of the many jungles in the eighth plane and started to pick fruits, herbs, and vegetables like every day commodities if not flowers. In fact, they were commodities. Just really really hard to come by commodities. All they picked were basically plants.
In the span of a short time, no one else has noticed that the three raided the eighth plane of some of the heavenly fruits, vegetables and herbs. They did it too quickly and discreetly for the heavens to notice it. The only one who did noticed it was god.
But he didn’t care for it much. He turned a blind eye to the whole thing because what they did next. They help sped up the process for the plants inside the jungle and even reproduced what they’d stolen. So it was fair.
God did not even care for some of the inhabitants of the heavens. Not like many of them died. At best, three died by Ban’s unholy wind but was brought back by him later on and everyone's memories were erased easily. So everything was cool with god as he watched them go. It was strange because he was not even mad that they raided the eighth heaven. It was more like watching a weekend anime show that you'd want to see for a very long time. God was even amused and laughed at the three because they were so daring, vile, and hilarious that he could not even get mad at them. 'Oh dear... Jin eh? Looks like I'll be seeing something more interesting in the future. I can't wait.' God thought to himself as he closes his eyes while anticipating for a certain future.
