《Ruler of Realms》Chapter 9: Winged Idiot

Chapter 9
After leaving the woman, Kei scouted the nearby area for any more civilians. He saw cars and other traces of people but spotted no humans.
He returned to the woman. As she saw Kei moving through the trees, she breathed out a sigh of relief and her tensed muscle finally relaxed.
Kei bridal style carried her towards the meet-up point with Kei. When he returned, he saw that Fether was waiting for him with two other men. They prepared to send the civilians through the Gate when a figure suddenly entered from the Gate.
Kei saw the man enter and they both looked eye to eye. The man smiled and spoke. “So, you’ve already entered before me. Thank you for your hard work, go back with the civilians. You’ve done enough, I’ll do the rest.”
“Are you Park Jin-Hae? We’re saved!!” The people started celebrating as they saw him, even the woman that Kei saved had hearts for her eyes.
‘You’re already saved! And Fether and I were the ones who saved you!’ Kei complained in his head.
Kei had to admit that Park Jin-Hae was really handsome, but the way he spoke just irked Kei to no end. ‘Who does he speak like the main character? His face irritates me for some reason.’
Kei is handsome by normal standards but compared to Park Jin-Hae, he was behind in terms of looks due to his life circumstances.
‘WHY IS HE MORE HANDSOME THAN ME? This world is really unfair.’ Kei was shouting and complaining in his head but in reality, he was glaring at Park Jin-Hae which made the latter feel uncomfortable.
Fether pushed Kei with his elbow to wake him up from his reverie. “Ah yes! Please go through the portal. We will also investigate this sub-dimension as we are a subjugation team.”
“Just you two?” Park Jin-Hae thought he heard wrong and asked.
Kei nodded and just sent the civilians through the Gate. After doing so, Kei and Fether went off, leaving Park Jin-Hae just standing there. He stood there for a moment before also going up the mountain.
As soon as Park Jin-Hae disappeared, the three subjugation teams entered the sub-dimension. “Split off! Our primary mission is to find survivors. We’ll meet up here in ten minutes.” After the leader of the team said that the group split into their respective teams and searched around, not knowing that Kei and Fether already did their work for them.
…
Park Jin-Hae followed behind Kei and Fether. Following their trace was much easier than he expected, but that also shocked him very much.
He passed through corpses upon corpses of monsters. Bodies of goblins, or to be precise parts of the bodies were scattered everywhere Kei and Fether passed. Some were cleanly cut off while some were smashed to bits and pieces.
“I underestimated those two, they’re strong, but I can still manage to catch up.” With that, he sped up. But even with using his fastest, the most he could do was look at the back of Kei and Fether.
They would stop every time there were enemies which gave Park Jin-Hae some time to get closer but as soon as they were finished, they would leave him behind again. ‘They’re monsters. We’ve been running for almost an hour and they’re still not showing any signs of fatigue.’

After running for an hour, even with Kei and Fether’s speed, they could only see the peak. The slope of the mountain made it hard for them to run at full speed and it got colder as they went higher, the top was freezing cold.
“Brrr, it’s cold here. Do you have any magic that can give us heat?” Kei and Fether stopped due to the freezing temperature. They were only a distance away from the top. They could feel the magic presence of someone strong there, their body shivered, not because of the temperature, but because of how chilling the magic presence was.
“Just circulate your magic energy, circulating produces heat.” Fether spoke as if it was something very obvious.
Kei looked at him and suddenly felt stupid. ‘Should I know that? Remy and Krie never thought me that. To be fair, my magic circuit is broken so I don’t need to know that.’
He didn’t want to look like an idiot so he didn’t say anything about being cold anymore. He tried to circulate his magic energy in his body. He easily reached five circulations, then his dark brown eyes turned completely black. His magic energy explosively grew and Fether who was next to him felt it the most. ‘His energy suddenly exploded, what’s with the absurd amount of magic energy?’ He felt pressured to even stand let alone, walk. Fether kept circulating his magic energy to help him endure the pressure when it suddenly disappeared.
Information entered Kei’s head in droves, he was bombarded with knowledge he didn’t know before. He tried to sort it all out then plan to slowly take it in. Then suddenly, an explosion happened from the top.
On the peak was a small temple and inside it was a frozen devil sitting on a throne. Goblins wearing thick clothes were around it, they prepared their weapons and were ready to fight when suddenly the ice around the devil cracked.
The devil on the peak of the mountain woke up from Kei’s explosion of magic energy. It shook off the ice around it and revealed its appearance. He looks almost the same as a human except for the horns and wings behind him and his grey skin.
He calmly talked but the aura around him showed that he was nothing but angry. “Who is the ignoramus who woke me up? Didn’t I tell you to wake me up when we’re finally in the Mortal Realm? You just managed to make a Portal after so long? Who’s responsible for this?”
Goblins appeared around him and kowtowed, they answered him. “Sir, the humans entered the portal and are now aiming for you.”
His face finally betrayed his control, his face contorted showing his true emotions. He suddenly rushed out of the temple and saw Kei and Fether running up the mountain. He raised his right hand, gathering magic energy then forming a huge fireball.
‘Fuck, the devil’s here.’ Kei and Fether reacted half a beat later, they saw the huge fireball in the sky that melted all the snowflakes falling around it.
“Finally, some good heater. Keep it up bro.” Kei made a thumbs up at the devil which irritated the devil more. He threw the fireball at them. The scorching heat melted all the surrounding snow on the surface of the mountain.

Kei and Fether both dodged with Kei going right and Fether the opposite way. As the fireball touched the ground, it exploded sending Kei and Fether flying from the blast.
When they came to, they saw that the place was burned to the ground. The fire melted not only the snow but also the stones on the mountain.
Kei thought, ‘Fuck, why did I have to say that? If that hit us then we’re toasted, literally.’
Fether unsheathed his sword and aimed it at the devil. He looked at Kei and they both nodded. “You know what you have to do.” He told Kei.
They both attacked the devil at the same time. The devil flew up using his wings leaving them unable to even touch him.
“I’ve fought with winged idiots before.” Kei shouted at the devil. Meanwhile, Krie who is in Heaven Realm talking with her fellow angels suddenly sneezed. ‘Someone’s talking rudely about me. Must be the idiot. When can I go to Mortal Realm again? Ughh.’
Kei jumped up high, followed by Fether. The devil was shocked that they could reach him and couldn’t react fast enough, he got slashed at the back while Kei punched him blasting him back to the ground.
Kei insulted the devil irritating it more. “No flying, ok little bat? Let’s start now, you ready?” He then landed and cracked his neck and stretched.
Kei rushed at the devil and Fether once again stealthily moved to his back and slashed at the wings again.
The devil became so mad and he suddenly exploded in power. His wings fully unfurled behind him and his aura suddenly spiked, pressuring both Kei and Fether.
‘Oh, here comes his second form. This will take 5 minutes, like Carrot vs Freezer.’ Kei remarked in his head.
He pridefully declared, “You’ve done well you insects. You’ve seen this form of mine, you can now…”
“We can now die in peace, I know.” Kei interrupted him.
He didn’t pay attention to Kei and just kept talking. “Tell me your name, I shall remember you as one of the idiots who challenged me, Gheata.”
“I mean, you will die anyway. What’s the point of knowing our names?” Kei kept insulting him causing Gheata to cough up blood.
‘Oohh, it really works.’
“That’s my line. Fine, let’s fight.” Gheata shouted at Kei.
As Gheata and the two started to fight, Park Jin-Hye arrived on top of the mountain and hid behind a tree. He wanted to help them fight against Gheata but he got the feeling that if jumped into the fray that he’ll only be a dead weight.
Kei and Gheata exchanged punches and kicks. Gheata was at a disadvantage with Fether adding into the mix. Fether uses the fact that Gheata is distracted by Kei and attacks in his blind spots. This tactic works well because if Gheata turns for even just a second, Kei’s punch will send him kissing the ground.
Park Jin-Hye was amazed at them. ‘They’re moving so fast. I can’t even react to those punches and they’re taking it like nothing.’
Gheata punched Kei sending him flying. He then flew up and pointed at the ground. “Ice Blades.” Ice blades and skewers materialized above him and rained down on Fether.
Fether swung his sword in an attempt to block it all. But the ice blades seem unending, after some time he finally got tired and got hit in his left shoulders. ‘Fuck, a little lower and that would’ve been my heart.’
He kicked the ground causing snow and dust to rise. During this, he multiplied into three. 1 Dashing to where Kei is, the other two charged towards Gheata.
“A unique ability user, A cloning ability? Pretty useless if you ask me.” Gheata continued bombarding them with the ice skewers.
The clones were stabbed all over their body with the other end of the ice passing through their body and stabbing into the ground.
The real Fether was still rushing towards Kei. Kei just got back up when he saw an injured Fether running towards him. “We can’t take him. We need to retreat.”
Kei hesitated for a little while, before nodding. He grabbed Fether by his waist and ran back down the mountain. Park Jin-Hye saw all this happen and also ran back down the mountain.
The journey down the mountain was a lot faster. Gheata followed behind them flying. He occasionally shot Kei with the ice blades but Kei dodged it all. Gheata suddenly sped up and then disappeared, the next moment, he appeared in Kei’s way.
“No running, ok little rat?” Gheana smiled scornfully and imitated what Kei said earlier.
“This is called a tactical retreat. Dumbasses like you won’t understand.” Kei shouted then backed up a bit. He let go of Fether and readied to fight.
Fether healed himself while Kei was carrying him, he also readied to fight. He grabbed his sword and pointed it at Gheata. “I didn’t want to show this to anyone, but seems like I have no choice.” Fether suddenly disappeared then turned into four.
He then held his sword with his right hand while raising his left hand. Thunder rumbled and lightning appeared in the skies. Lightning suddenly struck his left hand and then he rushed towards Gheata. All four Fether were suddenly turned into lightning, charging for Gheata.
Gheata then looked at him. “An irregular! Hehehe, you’re coming with me to the Hell Realm. The old men there would love to take a look at your body.”
Park Jin-Hye saw Fether use another ability after another. His eyes grew larger and his mouth was wide open. “He can use magic and he have multiple abilities!!”

Unwitting Champion
"In stories this is always easy. There's magic and powers, and quick steps to claiming that power for one's self. This doesn't feel true for me. I'm supposed to be a Champion, whatever that means, and yet I don't feel important. I don't have all the bells and whistles, which honestly feels familiar even in a new world. But what was I expecting? I haven't had the worst life - there are people with worse problems than mine - I've known what it is to struggle, to be pulled down instead of being helped up.This is nothing new."When in great peril, the Kingdom of Althor has no choice but to send a call into the void, beseeching the Fates to bring them a man who would save them from the coming darkness. Unfortunately the path the Fates chart is often unknowable to men and the Champion who appears is not what the kingdom expected.Unwitting Champion is a story of a guy displaced, dealing first and foremost with trying to survive in a world where he is no longer a person but a tool, and - at least from the reaction of those around him - a shoddy one at that. His major goal is to survive long enough that either he can run or find a way home, because as exciting as the possibility of learning magic might be, he would rather have a boring life than a short life.
