《Just For Fun》Chapter 44: Good Breeding or Gigantism!?

Nebel spent the rest of the day reading the history book Marcella had given him a while back, it was pretty interesting and, at least about the nineteenth, twentieth and twenty-first centuries, in-depth historical account.
When it was time for him to work on his university projects, he left the game and made sure the rest of his family did the same. They couldn’t afford to fall back on their studies for anything, not even a game, knowledge made the world and with knowledge you could live comfortably.
He worked on his project for a few hours, showered, changed and made sure the rest of them did the same. After wards they all returned to their rooms and put on their VR chokers to enter the game.
When he appears in his VR space, Nebel immediately notices something strange… well he would the whole place was empty except for a glowing orb directly in the center with the word “Congratulations!” splashed across it’s pure white surface.
Nebel walks up to the orb and places his hand against it, the orb grows brighter and brighter.
CAIFELIT System AnnouncementAll players have been temporarily logged out to protect their data while certain changes are made. Time till completion of update… three minutes and twenty-six seconds.
Nebel decides to wait, instead of logging back out. Opening his command panel, he sees that most of the options are grayed out but it will still give him a few small comforts while he waits… such as a chair… so he makes one, sits down and when the countdown, which was shown on the orb, reaches zero a new message appears in front of the orb.
CAIFELIT System AnnouncementCongratulations Players! The tutorial is hereby concluded and every player should now know the basics of the game. After a minute the Message disappears and with it the darkness, revealing the café where Nebel had been reading his history book. Confetti flies up into the air around him, as various objects fall to the ground as well as onto his table… he looks around at it… condoms… lubricant… magazines…
“Ummm…. Ok….” Nebel mutters before sweeping the whole lot into his backpack, condoms, piece of café, party ha and all… “It isn’t good to litter…”
Unlike the café which was fairly quiet, coming from outside, Nebel could hear a lot of noise. “WAIT A SECOND!” He hears from somewhere outside the café “THAT WAS ALL A TUTORIAL!!!”
Walking out of the café he sees hundreds of players loitering around the square… only a few hours ago it had been completely deserted… Many of them had visible wounds and others looked to be broke, starving or both.
All of them were complaining, begging or outright yelling at passersby. “What the hell!” “This can’t be!” “How could they do this!” were some of their gripes.
Nebel looks around at the mob trying to make some sense out of all of them “SHUT THE HELL UP!” he yells from the top of the café’s steps in the loudest voice he can produce, causing the square to fall into silence “Can anyone tell me what is going on!?”

After a bit of arguing six people approach Nebel and tell him what’s what.
“The Demi Humans have broken the frontlines!” the first one shouts, obviously panicking.
“Nonsense!” the second one says “The demi humans aren’t even a threat, we aren’t even needed, this game totally sucks…”
“What the hell are you two talking about!? The only real danger is the goblins to the north!” the third one tells him
“I can’t believe you guys! The orcs have pushed us back but the goblins were just pushovers!” the fourth one swears
“The rat men are too numerous for magic to be effective!” one screams
“The food has run out!” the sixth one tells him while holding its boney stomach.
Nebel shakes his head and looks at all of them “None of these things are true! Tell your men, the game masters have merged the servers, none of your information is worth a damn, go connect to Bö’s site and get the real info.”
This bit of information just makes them argue even more, until Nebel shouts for them to “SHUT UP!!!!” again. “My notice said congratulations! How many of you had the same!?”
The six representatives stare at him for a moment more before leaving him to tell their subordinates the news.
Nebel sighs and decides to escape before they make him their leader… lowering the air resistance around his body and strengthening the ground beneath him; Nebel pushes off from the ground with his usual Vector boosted jump and sours above the whole mass of humanity.
Ten, twenty, thirty feet into the air he flies while moving forwards, away from the square and towards the station leading to the outskirts of the city. He planned on going towards the forest and the north, now was the time to liberate the northern valley and he planned to do so alone.
Reaching the top of his arc at nearly fifty feet in the air, Nebel slowly drops down onto the roof of a building before kicking off again.
Before logging off he had bought, a titanium tipped spear, some bottles filled with reagents for his magic, made himself a leather sleeve for his left arm along with a cover for both sides of his heart and his shoulder as well as a few small surprises for his enemies…
With his new and improved moon jump he made short work of the distance to the train station and landed on a train that was already leaving. Standing on top of the train he watched the scenery go by as he sped towards his destination.
All over the city he could see players in various situations, some he could see were busy taking apart barricades and traps that they had placed on the streets. So it was pretty obvious to Nebel that not just the players had been merged into his server. Their belongings had also been added… At least to some point…
Arriving at the last stop before the academy’s one, Nebel launches himself into the air and speeds off in the direction of the forest. Constantly tweaking the friction of his body moving through the air, Nebel tries to find the perfect level of separation from normal air flow… but it wasn’t exactly easy. Imagine juggling a few dozen balls all at once, there were the vectors he needed to maintain to increase and direct his flight, the strength and rigidity of the ground on both his landings and his launches and finally the attempts to streamline the air pocket around his body while neither draining all of his mental concentration or lowering his potential speed.

Arriving at the forest, Nebel hits the ground running. His target for now was to push the goblins out of the valley without a single death, major injury or second attempt.
Along the way to the mountain path he spots Mitchell and using leaves gathered from the forest floor he creates a “smoke screen” to hide his presence from her. He also sees anorexic players looking for food and small patrols of guards, which he ignores.
Going along the mountain pass, he takes a short rest at his trap. The trap had amassed a large amount of low grade ingots and he was glad to see them… but from the utter lack of heat from the melting pot and all of the blood on the path being fairly old, Nebel could see that the goblins had wised up about it…
Leaving his backpack in the small cave Bö had made at the trap; Nebel pockets a handful of items he had made for this mission, before strapping a long sword to his back and leaving with his spear in hand.
Continuing along the path… this time with a bit of caution… Nebel soon encounters a group of goblin. Dashing straight towards the goblins, who are forming into their regular defensive stance, Nebel unhooks his spear from his back and raises it into a thrusting position, shooting out a wave of cold, loosening the ground under the goblins and coating his spear in fire Nebel takes the final step up to the goblins and sweeps his spear across their ranks.
The whole frontline of goblins lose their shields in a instant and Nebel presses his attacks knocking their spears away thanks to the bad footing under them, he powers his way through their formation dropping a present in the middle before turning around on the other side.
Smirking he snaps his fingers and the present… which was a stone enchanted with a permanent spell that had been gathering power with ever step he took, blew up in a fury of fire, taking out most of the group in a single moment, Nebel jumps into the last flares of it to finish off the rest of them.
The whole thing took less than a minute until Nebel was once more running down into the valley.
Using his complete, if basic, knowledge of the elements, Nebel plows through group after group of goblins while heading towards the ruins of the town at the center of the valley. Even after changing to goblins that were obviously smarter and swifter than the rest, Nebel had no problem dealing with them, instead he started looking around for something that could scare them into retreating from their… new home… as he could see that it was from the primitive houses they had built on the foundations of the town’s burnt-out buildings.
In the end, after a few hundred goblin deaths and the depletion of more than half of Nebel’s mental condition, Nebel was cornered at the center of the ruins of the small town and the solution he needed came to Nebel in the form of a gigantic goblin yelling out over the mass of goblins that had been engaging him for a solid ten minutes now.“Enough! Human, I will deal with you by myself!”
The goblins move to either side, making a path for the giant and others says “Hail Count Oblivec!” in small cutesy voices.
The giant goblin moves towards Nebel down the corridor his subordinates had made for him “I’m going to enjoy killing you!” he shouts in a most cliché filled fashion. Nebel looks up at the enormous, fifteen foot tall goblin and thinks to himself “Ok… I can kind of understand why Humanity failed now…”
“Hey gigantism poster boy!” Nebel shouts towards the goblin’s leader as he opens Bö’s mutant almanac on his display “What type of goblin are you exactly? A hobgoblin on steroids? A half troll or half giant?”
The giant goblin frowns down at him “Useless human what do you know!? I’m one of the goblin royalties, a goblin lord! Bow before me and maybe I will kill you quickly!”
Nebel returns his right hand, which was manipulating his display back to his spear “Not a chance! Well… how about I skin you and place it in the other pass!”
Before Oblivec can reply, Nebel jumps high up into the air, bounding off of one of the goblin huts and a lone pole sticking out of the surrounding rubble, he gains as much height as he can before using his vector manipulation magic to bring himself crashing back towards the ground at an amazing speed.
Throwing his spear directly at Oblivec from point blank range once he was about to hit him, Nebel changes the vector of his decent into a slid to one side and a flip to burn off the little bit of speed he wasn’t able to with high air friction and liquidized ground pulled into the air.
Smacking out a fire that had started on his clothes Nebel looks up at Oblivec.
Amazingly Oblivec blocked the spear on a large gauntlet strapped to his tree like arm but the throw wasn’t completely in vain as the spear broke through the gauntlet and lodged itself deep into his muscle.
“Ahhhh!!!!!” Oblivec shouts in surprise while pulling out the spear and throwing it behind the crowd of goblins. “What are you going to do now, little man!?”
Nebel smiles calmly as the ground he had pulled up to slow his fall, splatters as mud around him. Oblivec swings a giant sword horizontally at Nebel, who after ducking it with only a few inches to spare, Lifts his left hand up, clenches a fist and throws a stone with his right.
The stone flies straight into Oblivec’s Blood shot left eye and after a moment explodes in a cold flurry, freezing the eye solid…

Any reposts of Querencia Quintet are not mine and should be reported straight to myself, all copyright ... rights... are withstanding. Book one in the Querencia Quintet franchise is titled "Polarity/Pestilence" and it starts off with our sarcastic, overpowered protagonist, Charley Dunne, a 17 year old werewolf who has been cordially invited by his Werewolf clan's boss, Markus Fell. The invitation is related to Charley's supernatural academy's graduation party. He is about to move out of his parents' house and attend college. The events prior to his successful passing marks within his last exam, all 17 years of his life, have been leading up to one moment and one moment only; war. The war shall begin when he turns 18, the night of April 2nd, 2017. Whose side(s) will Charley Dunne possibly select as his loyal allies; Fleshflingers (Zombies)? Moonbearers (Werewolves)? Spellcasters (Witches and Wizards)? Bloodsuckers (Vampires)? Or Mortals (Humans)? A few, more than a few, or, miraculously, will he be able to unite all five supernatural Councils (groups) and form an eternal pact that may just last a dozen or so centuries? Find out in the very first instalment of: Querencia Quintet. Quoted from my official Wattpad story's description: "Werewolves. Demons. Angels. Spirits. Vampires. Zombies. Humans -- and the greatest supernatural species of them all; witches. The nine Lords of the Night, the thirteen Lords of the Day, the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, the god of war, Horus, and the greatest progenitor of the mystical arts, Merlin. These five Councils could form a pact that lasts many lifetimes ... but will their differences and flaws work against them? Do the five magical chambers butt heads, or do they accept their uniqueness and strengths and work together?"
