《Super Novice ©》Chapter Twelve: The Nameless City Part One

Looking over the Nameless City again, I feel my breath leave me, it’s just that beautiful. The buildings are shadowy but they clearly stretch up for what must be thousands of feet, reaching heights I’ve only seen mountains reach and that wizards have built. The skyscrapers or maybe cavescrapers, no they would be cavescrapers since ya know no sky, didn’t reflect any light, no they seem to absorb it. I could only see them by where the light seems to disappear in building shaped shadows and the light that dances in between them that makes the epic shadows dance on the cave walls so many miles away, almost like colossal men and monsters going to war.
The light itself came from the huge caves ceiling, which some of the cavescraper almost reach and only a hairs width away at that, are covered by a thick layer of something. The something emits a powerful, and eerie glow of blueish green lights over the city. But it’s too bright to tell what it looks like and but I swear I could almost see something moving around up there. A grin spreads over my face and my sense of adventure points up there.
Rashid’s voice grabs my attention, “Boy! Are you still alive down there?”
“Yeah, just enjoying the view.” I yell, while switching my view down to the shadowy Nameless City.
He yells down at me again “Well save your viewing for later! We got work to do!”
“Alright.” I mumble and shimmy up the chain.
When I get back up to the cave I find Rashid and the cart, which is tied up with his chains, sitting dangerously close to the edge. He tosses me a chain that attached to the cart and hops on it.
He gazes at me intently with his dark eyes, and says “I hope, I don’t need to explain what I want you to do.”

I jerk the chain and say “No, I get it. You want me to lower you to ground.”
He gives a small smile “Yep, don’t drop it though or I’ll make sure you regret it.” His eyes have a dangerous glint in them, I look at him knowing I have similar glint in mine. He slightly pales and says “You wouldn’t dare-”
I kick the cart off the cliff.
“Don’t worry I won’t drop you! But enjoy the ride down bitch!” I say laughing.
I hear Rashid screech “Oh, You son of a whore!”
Then the chain jerks my arm to ground and me with it, I strain to keep myself from sliding over the cliff as the chain pulls me with the force of gravity. It pulls me almost over the side and then it stops, I get up and look down and I can see Rashid next to the cliff keeping the cart form smashing against it by balancing it on a giant stake underneath the cart embedded into the cliff.
He looks up at me and sneers “You know what to do dumbass!”
“Screw off!”
I sigh, I really got my work cut out ahead of me with how far down the floor is. I pull him and the cart off the stake lifting them up into the air, I gently move to the side bring the cart away from stake and then slowly lower them into the waiting darkness down below.
It doesn’t take long for the darkness to consume them and let them fade out of sight, It was almost like watching sugar dissolve into water.
I feed the chain into the darkness, holding it but also letting it glide slowly out of my hands at a steady pace. My arms, my chest, hell my whole body strains with effort and trembles with slight exhaustion as I go about lowering the chain as I fight the force of gravity trying to smash it down. But I fight it, and fight it, letting myself fall into a trance of just lowering the chain and contesting with gravity.

My muscles ache and strain, a deep pain developing in them as I come out of trance. And I find that I can’t lower the chain anymore, I look to it and notice that I at the end of it and then suddenly it disappears.
So it’s finally done. Good, now time to get down there…. Wait how am I supposed to do that? Then I swear I heard Rashid laughing.
I peer over the edge of the cliff and sigh. It’s going to be a long climb down.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Huahh huah,” I’m huffing and puffing by the time I get to the point I can see the bottom of the cliff and then I let myself drop off. Gravity takes me by the feet and pulls me down with the force of a demon into the ground. Pain shoots up my legs like thick, red hot needles. “Shit.” I wheeze with barely in air in my lungs, and hoping nothing’s broken.
I wobble away to where I see Rashid with a smug smile on the cart.
By the time I make it to the cart I determine, nothings broken but we'll be freaking sore tomorrow. I stumble and fall onto the cart, I breathing hard and heavy bring in as much delicious air as I can.
Don’t think because of my pain and exhaustion, I didn’t enjoy any of this though. No I enjoyed all of this. I mean this was as much a battle as any fight I’ve been in, just instead of a person or monster it was the world, or really gravity, but the pleasure of beating it's the same. And It was a hell of a workout, the likes I haven’t had in years.
As I’m laying on the cart a forceful hit sends my flying and I fall off the cart. I don’t bother to get up and look to see Rashid “Well, nice of you to finally make it here. I hope you enjoyed the climb down.”
“It’s nice to see you too Rashid.”

Steamforged Sorcery [A Steampunk LitRPG]
This is a fantasy story in a steampunk setting, not a sci-fi. The Great War ravaged the face of the earth many years ago. In the years that passed, the world rebuilt, mixing machinery and magic to form something new. Great blimps took to the sky, belching steam and smoke as metal cities sprouted like weeds below. Angel, a talented mage, scours the desert endlessly in search of lost knowledge. When it unexpectedly falls into his hands, he quickly comes to realize that the world is far larger – and far more deadly – than he ever could have predicted. But no amount of danger is going to keep Angel from seeking out greater strength and traveling the world, claiming all the greatest treasure that it has to offer. To most, the desert is a dangerous threat to be feared. To Angel, it’s a land of opportunity, waiting to be exploited. Steamforged Sorcery is, as the title suggests, a LitRPG Steampunk story with heavy focus on magic and scenery. The main character starts out relatively strong (but far from overpowered) but will eventually grow in strength to incredible levels. It is moderately paced and does not progress at ridiculous speeds. Release Schedule: 1,500 words daily Monday-Friday

Mana. Magic. These two words have wrought countless stories and legends into existence. From mighty Dragons and world shaking mages, to heroes and holy swords. But there is always a dark side to everything. This is a tale of Gods, sinners, terror and the dark side of even the most holy of things.
