Chapter Eight: Quest Part Two

I didn’t have to wait very long at all, I could hear them moving from the cave not long after I got comfortable. I could hear some screeching and yelling in the cave before it got by loud grunts and roars as the weaker goblins fled the cave to not be caught up in the older goblins.

I watched the goblins get into little groups, and organize their parties to go forth hunt and gather for their little clan, too bad that they wouldn’t live to see dawn if I had anything to say about it and I had plenty to say. I kept my eye on a particular group of goblins that actually wore some leather, and half decent stone spears, the other groups just had furs and wood clubs.

The goblins finally went forth in five groups going down different paths, which there seemed to be many more than I initially thought, but that didn’t matter I put enough traps around the forest that they’d hit them eventually.

One group of goblins went down the trail next to me, and my grin stretched across my face. The goblins went down the path quietly and swiftly, making sure to keep out of sight, but it was too late for that. I got out of my comfortable position and followed them down the path.

I kept my distance as I didn’t want to kill them yet, I’d know when the right time to strike is. The goblins seemed none the wiser to my presence or my plans, and soon they would fall into my trap.

I came to a stop as they neared the trap and waited, they kept walking none the wiser, and one of them stopped the rest who seems a little on edge, and went to investigate further. As he came next to the trap, he could find nothing wrong and one of the other goblins went over and gave him a friendly slap on the back, but too hard sending the on edge goblin falling onto my trap.

The goblin screamed as he fell, first with surprise and then pain, that just turned to garbling as blood filled his lungs. The goblin that accidently sent the other into the trap fell to his knees to look over into the pit I made, and then screamed. I then knew my chance and rush over to the goblins why they’re confused.

They never heard me as the goblin screamed, and that screaming would be the last thing they hear. As soon as I came within striking distance I cleaved the one closest to me head off sending it spiraling over at the others. I wouldn’t give them a chance to react, and grabbed one throwing him at the one near the pit sending them both to their deaths. Leaving only one left to face, and fittingly the strongest looking one.

The biggest goblin, though he would probably only come up to my waist, lifted his club up defensively and trembled before me. I sighed at the sight, this is pathetic he should at least attempt to appear brave or come charging at me, now I feel like I’m so kind of murderer, might as well make it quick for him.

I walked over to the lone goblin who’s shaking increased the closer I got to him, till he dropped his club and cowered before me. I sighed again and pick him up by the neck to eye level, and quickly stab him in the heart. He struggled but no before long, and eventually the life just left his eyes and became very still. I sighed again.

I took a look at the goblin my hand, and notice that he’s a fine specimen of a goblin practically a textbook example of one. With light, dirt brown skin mottled with a pale green, that’s about the same toughness as leather that only gets tougher with age. His arms are long reaching to his knees, and are probably strong enough to tear a grown man’s arm off and ended in three digit which they ended in sharp small claw. He’s also covered with dark, coarse hair all over. His head is humanoid, but with large ears, a prominent nose, cat like eyes with a yellow iris, and finally a large, ugly mouth full of sharp teeth.

I pulled my sword out of the goblins body and tossed it into pit, along with the one I beheaded. I wouldn’t need to collect anything since the guild card registers everything I kill. I then went over to the pit to see if the other goblins live. I peer into the pit and the bodies are still and silent. I didn’t trust it so I went and grabbed a couple sturdy rocks and threw them at the goblin’s head, bursting each into a shower of red, green and grey.

I made sure to fill in the pit so no random animal would fall in, anyway it’s useless to me now since goblins have a very sharp sense of smell.

I then walked down the other trails killing any other goblins I found, and tearing down any traps that are no longer necessary. Eventually I got back to the cave with the older, stronger goblins still fighting, but found the one group of goblin I couldn’t find. The one’s that actually had some gear on.

The goblins are in formation as though waiting for me, they seemed to have avoided my traps for the most part, though they have a couple of light wounds. When I choose to reveal myself to them they looked at me with murder in their beady eyes.

I picked up a rock and threw it at the leader, hitting him square in the head turning it into bloody mess and fell over. The other four look on in shock, I threw four more rocks and they suffered the same fate.

Honestly I feel a little disappointed, I mean this supposed to be my first quest right? Shouldn’t it be a little more exciting? I then took a look at the cave and saw several angry hobgoblins, and one furious orge charging at me. Well look’s like thing are about to get exciting!
