《The Inventor of Magic》19: Chameleon

So here we are a better written chapter but still short. Definitely going to a chapter every two days. For now, enjoy! ^O^
>>>Zach POV
"Ma~n that lesson was boring. It's a good thing I wasn't there... He he he.",
You'll find that a simple hologram array mixed with a teleport is quite good to escape from the never ending haunting drone of an English teacher.
"*sigh* What should I do now?", I said to myself as I walked away from main school building.
...
Ah, what a great idea! Richard did say to enjoy myself afterall. Since I have nothing else to do, why not?
[Teleport]
As soon as I thought of it my thought was intercepted and the [Teleport] rune was activated. Suddenly I appeared in my workshop.
"Right then!", I said mischievously as I smiled to myself. "I have a little under one hour!",
---
45 minutes later
---
*grin* "Ha ha ha ha ha! This will keep me entertained for ages!",
Behold! My masterpiece, the wonderful, the amazing. Chameleon Array!
Okay, okay. So the name is not exactly matching the function of the array itself. But! It doesn't matter anyway. It's only something I quickly put together in an hour, I'm sure that if I finish it properly I will give it a better name.
So what is it? Well, simply put, in under one hour I Zach Morton have created an array that can change what you look like!
It isn't solid but for all intense and purposes it works. I got the idea for the hologram stunt I made in the English classroom. By using a hologram that is slightly bigger than the body overplayed on top of the real body I can make a hologram that moves along with the body. All I needed to do was get the hologram array and attach it to a basic physical enhancement in order to make the hologram move with the body.

It's quite hard to maintain the array but it's not too bad.
So what am I going to do with this array? Well simple, I'm going to go have a chat with David.
---
>>>David POV
Ugh. This is why I like holidays! It's only a few days into the new term and already I have two stacks of papers to look through. TWO STACKS!
*sigh*, seriously.
*Knock* *Knock*
"What now?!",
"Sorry for interrupting Sir, there is a man here that said he came to see you.",
"I thought I said I didn't want any interruptions!",
"Yes well he said he was an old friend of yours. Does a mister Richard sound familiar to you at all sir?",
"Richard!? What's he doing here? Isn't he meant to be running the company. Hmm, send him in.",
"Yes sir.",
My secretary nodded and quickly left. Let's see what that old dog wants then shall we?
*Knock* *Knock*
"Come in",
The door opened and in walked the familiar face of Richard.
"Hello David, how are you?",
"Me? Oh I'm fine, do take a seat.",
Richard walked over and sat opposite me.
"So what did you disturb me for you old dog.",
"First of all I must apologize for tricking you David.",
"Tricking me? How?",
"Because I'm not Richard.",
Suddenly, Richard flickered and seemed to distort before finally ending up as a dark haired man of around 30 with a dashingly handsome face, a close trimmed beard and deep brown eyes. If anything he could easily compete with Richard in the looks department
"Who are you?!",
"Ah, sorry about the whole 'Richard' thing. Nice to meet you, I'm Arek Morton. Zach Morton's father. I heard he had entered this school.",
"He did but, why did you look like that?",

"Oh like this?", he said as he turned back into Richard. "Well, I finished making an array which let me do this, this morning. As for Richard well, him and I are old friends and colleagues. I'm sure he wouldn't mind me borrowing his appearance for a while. Ha ha ha!", with that he turned back into himself before turning directly to me.
"Now listen up David. I'd very much like to spar with you if you don't mind?",
"Actually, I have too much paper work left to do anything like that. I don't even know if you're identity is real yet. Let me phone Richard and if everything checks out and you help me finish this damned work, I wouldn't mind giving you a beating.",
"It's all I could have ever hoped for.", Arek said and smiled.
*Beep* *Boop* *Boop* *Beep* *Boop* *Boop*
"Hello, Richard? Yeah, it's me David. Say, do you know anyone by the name of Arek?",

The Dreamside Road
Five years after the world fell into chaos, a treasure of artifacts is up for grabs. The relics of the Dreamside Road offer a power that could help rebuild or annihilate what remains. Orson Gregory is an adventurer for hire, but hunts this treasure for answers, not glory. Enoa Cloud’s late aunt helped hide the Dreamside Road, but following in her aunt’s supernatural tradition offers her as much peril as power. Together, Orson and Enoa battle a magic-obsessed militia, clash with a host of rivals, and face constant adventure on their journey to find the Dreamside Road. *Updates Monday and Friday The Dreamside Road is now on TopWebFiction! Vote so people know this exists. _____________________________________ NOTE: The Progression tag applies specifically to Enoa. Also, fair warning, that element doesn't enter the story until she begins her studies. Content: Main characters range in age from teenagers to people in their thirties and older, but it will not contain gratuitous violence or explicit sexual content. It also won’t shy away from implication, anything to make this story and its world feel more real. Characters will freely allude to potentially triggering topics, including living with a disability, facing terminal illness, coping with trauma, surviving societal destabilization, and the consequences of bigotry. At its most intense, the Dreamside Road is a hard PG-13. Worldbuilding: This is not a story with a lot of early exposition scenes, conveniently explaining ‘magic systems’ and political dynamics. Readers will learn, progressively, as the characters do. This story/world has a ‘magic system’, or rather, a set of systems, but the effort to quantify and understand the truth of the setting plays a role in the backstory, as well as in some character motivations. In that same vein, not every character has a firm grasp on the nature of their world, and not every piece of dialog from every character should be taken as entirely truthful Worldbuilding. Also, this isn't the softest Sci-fi. There are at least some basic explanations given for various elements, but Royal Road does not give me a spectrum to choose from. Given the choice between hard and soft, let's just say The Dreamside Road won't be cited in any college Physics papers. Setting and Theme: The Dreamside Road walks the line between fantasy and science fiction and deals with finding one’s place in a changing world. Many of the characters in this story are United States natives and the story begins in the United States, my homeland. However, knowledge or interest in this country is not necessary to understand the story, especially as it progresses. Also, as this is a novel that deals with societal collapse and while that damage may be widespread, in story, I don’t want to overstep and critique the culture of others’ unless I have particular knowledge in a given area. Ultimately, the Dreamside Road is American in the same way Harry Potter is English, fantasies that do not have a full secondary world, but with enough original elements to fully diverge the setting from our the real world.
