《The Inventor of Magic》17: A talk with Lucy
Advertisement
>>>Richard POV
Ha ha, oh god this is too funny!
Currently I am sat at the dining room table in my house, eating my dinner. To my right is my daughter Lucy who is currently having an enthusiastic talk on her lesson idea at school and on my right is her 'co-worker' Zach.
Pfft, his face! He looks positively murderous. I just so happen to know that he has an array that he needs to finish tonight and being stuck here talking to my daughter is just delaying him.
I wonder how cranky he'll be tomorrow? Probably for the best if I stick away for that one.
Eventually after around forty minutes Lucy had decided that this conversation was finished.
"Stay here Zach, I'll get some idea a that I wrote down a while ago. They're really good trust me!",
"Sure...",
Lucy went skipping of to her room leaving just me and Zach.
"Sooo~ good day at school?", I asked.
"Loud.",
"What, School?",
"No, your daughter... I think you'll need to extend the deadline for that array to tomorrow. I'm sure you'll be able to do that.",
"Yeah I'll do that for you. If you do a favor for me.", I have a really good idea...
"What."
"Teleport home and get a magic device with the basic flight array on it will you.",
Suddenly Zach disappeared and reappeared in his seat after a few moments, but now he had a basic magic device in his hand.
He slid it across the table to me.
Ah, how I would love that teleportation array.
"What are you going to do with it?",
"You'll see.",
There was silence until Lucy came back with some paper in her hands.
"Look at this Zach!", Lucy exclaimed eagerly.

"What is it?",
"They're all ideas that I came up with for arrays that we can make! Look, this one has-",
Okay, I tuned out again at this point. Even I don't understand why Lucy's so energetic. It really is one of life's unknown mysteries. Anyway this new conversation lasted for another twenty minutes.
Eventually it was finished and the topic of Zach going home came up. Here we are, time for my master plan.
"I'll go home now.", said Zach once Lucy was finished explaining things.
"Do you need to? I'm sure we can come up with more ideas.",
"Sorry, my parents wouldn't like it if I was out too late. Oh okay.", Lucy turned to me and asked, "Da~d can you give Zach a flight array?", she asked whilst giving me the puppy dog face.
"Why?",
"Because I can't have my co-worker walk to school every day can I?",
"That's true,",
"So~ pretty pleeeease!",
I pretended to be thinking it over whilst stealing a glance at Zach. Oh, this is brilliant! I can see the realization appearing on his face!
"Fine, wait here.",
I stood up and went out of the room before walking back in a few minutes later with the magical device in my hands.
"Right, this is a bog-standard magical device with the flight array on it. It's nothing special but it will do.", I said as I passed it to Lucy who in turn passed it to Zach who had a rarther unpleasant expression on his face.
Luckily Lucy didn't notice his expression.
"Here you go Zach. Your own flight array!", Lucy beamed as she passed it over.
"Thanks!", Zach replied with a forced smile
"Right, come with me and I'll take you home.", I said as I walked over to the door.

"Bye Zach! Perhaps I can go to your house next time!",
"Perhaps...",
Zach followed me in silence as we walked out of the house and into the jaguar. Now though he sat in the front passenger seat instead of back.
"You had me there. I didn't expect that you'd give me my own array back while simultaneously making your daughter like you more. Very impressive!", Zach explained whilst laughing.
"Thanks, I see your already popular with the ladies Zach.", I said whilst grinning back to him.
"Shut up Richard! Just go out of the gates and have a drive around for ten or so minutes, I'll just teleport home.",
"Alright, I wish you luck in your new 'buissness' venture with my daughter.",
"Oh come off it Richard, you know I'm just going to sell the arrays to you anyway so it's just like giving myself more time to do my job whilst I'm still enjoying the atmosphere of school.",
"Still, good luck. You're gonna need it if your Lucy is doing this as well.",
"Thanks, well see you.",
Suddenly Zach disappeared from my moving car.
I drove around for a bit before returning home and acting as if I'd took Zach home.

My Newest, and at the same time, Oldest novel. This is a Rewrite of my very first novel that I begun when I was just starting out. It follows the story of Mark Floyd, a broken man who once tried to do what he thought was right... only to be stabbed in the back and thrown away. Now, pulled into a conflict that spans time and space, Mark has a choice to make; Stand up once more, even if it means facing an unknowable future, or let the Embers of his heart die and sink back into darkness. ----------------------------------- “For gold is tried in the fire, and acceptable men in the furnace of adversity”. Once part of a Special Ops team in the US Army, Mark Floyd thought he had seen the worst that Humanity had to offer. That was until his final mission, one that would leave him a broken and shattered man, betrayed by the Country he served, and abandoned by society as a whole. His dreams filled with nightmares of the ones he failed to protect, mind and memories clouded by booze and more, Mark finds himself stumbling through life without purpose or desire. Life isn't done with Mark yet, however. For as long as even a single ember remains in a persons heart, here is still yet hope for the flames of Passion and Hope to be Rekindled. When the dying embers of Mark's heart catches the eyes of a Being far beyond his understanding, Mark finds himself thrown into a situation not even his years of training could prepare him for. Will this new chance be Mark's hope at both Redemption and Recompense? Or will it simply be the final nail in the coffin for a man already dead to the World? [This is a rework of my very first story. The general story will remain the same, however a few details have been tweaked, the chapters have be Edited better and some chapters have been broken down into smaller chunks for better flow and consistency. The biggest change will be to the System itself; It will be a lot less "Game-like", meaning no stats, levels or similar aspect, though skills will still be present in the form of "Programs". Instead, It'll focus more on the Sigil's nature as super-computers and how they change the world around them. This should make for a much more "natural" and less info-dumpy system.
