"Right, now that we have finished with the introductions we will move onto the first class of the year. The basic history of magic.",

A lot of groaning and signs of annoyance spread throughout the room at the sound of Miss Crow's suggestion, obviously these kids have learnt all this already. I myself just zoned out as Miss Crow delivered her lecture.

"As most of you already know mana was the discovery of a new subatomic particle 15 years ago and since then scientists and theorists alike have been trying to work out ways of utilizing the mana particles for their own agenda. Whether it be for a new energy supply or to be used in war. Anyway the scientists initially tried all they could think of to try and react the mana particle in order to form energy.

Alas, even colliding a mana particle at a highs boson particle at the speed of light did bought but continue to confuse the scientists.

Eventually 7 years ago almost everyone agreed that the mana subatomic particle could not be used and was left alone. Only two years later a low profiting electronics manufacturer Improm Industries came out with magic devices and after being tested these magic devices have been sold across the world and influences almost every part of life we see today. Any questions?",

A young boy near the back of the room raised his hand, I think his name was Allen, All, Allec! That's it Allec.

"Yes, Allec.",

"I thought mana particles could not be used to create energy, if so how can magic devices work.", Allec asked proudly.

"Well in any magic device their is a piece of engineering genius called a core which converts nearby mana into just enough energy for the magic device to work. However the arrays themselves do not need energy to work, they just let the mana particles be channeled through the array to form a spell.

Although it is possible to write your own arrays they take a long time to write and more often than not, don't work. There is still a lot of information that Improm Industries have not released and we know the cores and arrays Improm Industries produce are not at all simple.

Now then you will all have free time until brake at which point you will follow your time tables. CLASS DISMISSED!",

Well that was dull. As if no one's heard that before. Well it was mostly correct. They obviously don't know about some of the key parts in a magic devices core and array producing. Never mind, it's not like I was hoping to learn anything by coming here anyway.

As I was walking away from the classroom and towards the workshop a voice called out towards me.

"Hey Zach! Slow dowwwwn.",

I stopped and turned around to see a jogging Lucy coming up to me.

"Yes?",

"Er- where are you going?",Lucy said.

"I'm going to go see if I can borrow a magic device from the workshop.",

"Why. Don't you have one?",

"Well I do, but I don't really want to use it.",

"Oh, do you want to see my magic device?!", Lucy asked eagerly.

She probably won't leave me alone.

"Sure, show me on the way to the workshop.",

"Okay.",

We set off towards Mike's workshop. Lucy pulled out a seemingly normal looking holo-phone from her handbag.

Damn it Zach! You should have seen this coming. Of course Richard wouldn't need a pink state of the art holo-phone magic device! Why did I even make him one...

"Here it is!", Lucy cried dramatically.

Come on Zach, you've got this! Acting isn't that hard.

"Wow... What am I looking at?",

"It's a holo-phone, but that's not all!", she was getting a tad too excited about this.

"It's also a custom made magic device!",

"Wow!",

"Yeah I know. My dad got it for me on my last birthday. He made it himself!",

Damn it Richard, you old lying mutt! You can't be telling lies like that to you're own daughter! How he manages Improm is beyond me...

"That's great.",

"Yeah. Let me see your magic device!", Lucy said, the curiosity failing to hide itself on her face.

"Sorry I don't have it on me.",

I have it IN me! Mwahahahaha!

"Oh that's too bad. You'll have to show me another time. What type of Magic Device are you going to borrow?",

"I don't know... Ah, here we are.",

"Since I don't have anything else to do can I follow you Zach?",

"I suppose so.",

We entered the workshop.

If I become friends with him first, then I can work out how he beat me in the proficiency test!
