Chapter 100: The Mimic Finale

*Smash**Bam*Crash**Boom

Nathan: “Whoa…maybe this wasn’t such a good idea?”

Nathan leapt from tree to tree as the Mimic knocked down each and every one right after he leapt to the next. The forest was being demolished as the Mimic rampaged after Nathan, who had stolen away its treasure and in its pursuit nothing stood in its way as it ripped everything apart with its claws.

Nathan’s plants were of no use, as the Mimic tore through everything he grew as if it was paper. Nathan needed a chance to counter-attack, but as things stood, if he stopped for a moment, the Mimic would be on him.

Nathan: “Dammit just give me one chance…what do I have to do ? Mess up myself?”

Nathan stopped his ranting as one of the Mimics weapons smashed the branch he’d leapt to, sending him into a free-fall.

Nathan: “I WAS JOKING!”

With an opening like this, the Mimic quickly leapt up to meet Nathan; mouth agape ready to swallow him whole. Nathan quickly raised his palm and a rune appeared from of his palm.

Nathan: “Venom Burst.”

A Blob of yellow liquid shot forward towards the Mimic. Sensing danger, it suddenly pulled its appendages back into itself, before shutting tight. However even with its quick action, some of the poison managed to get into its mouth and the effect was instant; as the mimic crashed into the tree. Nathan quickly took hold of the Great-Sword he’d recovered and, as hard as he could, smashed the blunt side into the mimic’s head.

*Bam*

With the help of the free-fall, the mimic smashed into the ground, however Nathan wasn’t done. As soon as he landed, he turned and swung the sword as hard as he could at the mimic, sending it flying and smashing through the debris the mimic had created. Nathan understood the outside of the mimic was invincible, but maybe a blunt enough impact could hurt it. He pursued the mimic and continued to bat it around the forest.

Nathan: “I know this probably isn’t working, but it’s still great stress relief.”

Nathan started to rant as he batted the mimic around the place.

Nathan: “You probably don’t understand, but I really hate mimics. Not just here, but in general.”

This was the first real mimic Nathan had met, but he still knew of them back from his world.

Nathan: “You stole my weapons, chased me around the forest, and more importantly, because of enemies like you; I never beat that game. Do you know how many times I’ve seen that damn game-over screen because of you!? I KNOW I DIED, I DON’T NEED YOU TO TELL ME GAME!”

Nathan began ranting, while at the same time venting his frustration on the Mimic.

Nathan: “I MEAN AFTER ALL THE CRAP I HAD TO DEAL WITH, HOW ALL ANYONE EVER SAID WHEN I ASKED FOR HELP ON THE FORUM’S IS ‘GIT GUD’ OR ‘LOL NOOB’. THE ONE THING I THOUGH I COULD TRUST, THE ONE THING I THOUGHT HAD MY BACK, FREAKING TOOK A BITE OUT OF ME. ISNT THIS GAME TOUGH ENOUGH ALREADY WITHOUT THEM!? HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW IT WAS ALIVE? FUCK GAME DEVELOPERS!”

Nathan smashed the mimic one last time, sending it crashing through a tree with a loud crash. The tree, with several others, toppled over; crushing the Mimic under their weight. Nathan was sure that those trees wouldn’t hold it very long, but he was hoping that with that combine with the poison and his barrage of attacks, it would buy him some time. Leaving the mimic behind, Nathan leapt to the top of a nearby rock. Closing his eyes, he listened towards into the forest. With his enhanced hearing, if he concentrated, he could hear for miles around, but right now he didn’t even need to hear that far.

Nathan: “Just a ways off.”

He had gotten close to his destination, the one thing that could get rid of the mimic once-and-for-all. Now all he needed was to get the mimic to charge after him with reckless abandonment, and there was one sure-fire way.

*Gooooooooorrgggghh**Craasshhhh*

Nathan turned back to see the mimic smashing through the trees, as he clawed its way out of the debris. Once out, the Mimic wobbled back in forth, barely able to stand on its two feet. The poison Nathan had shot at it was the paralyzing toxin he recently obtained. Without a doubt, the mimic was feeling the effects of the poison full-force. Though since he didn’t know if the mimic had veins or blood, the places where the poison did its best work, it still looked to be hurt.

The mimic wobbly looked around, until its eyes fell on Nathan, standing atop a rock. The mimic wasn’t going to fight Nathan head-on anymore; it opted to rest for now and began to pull in its legs and arms into its body. It could find Nathan later and will pursue him indefinitely, right now it was going to rest and regain its strength.

Nathan: “(That’s probably what its thinking, but I can’t risk you getting healthy again.)”

*Snap*

The mimic turned towards Nathan upon hearing the sound. In Nathan’s hands was one of the weapons he’d stolen from the Mimic or what was left of it. Nathan had broken the weapon in half, rendering it useless and worthless. Nathan threw the broken weapon away and pulled out another weapon.

Nathan: “Oh yeah, that got your attention.”

*Snap**Break*

Nathan checked the status of the weapons the Mimic had had, not one of them were as good as the weapons he personally held, so he had no problem snapping them in half. If taking the weapons from the Mimic sent it into a rage, then doing this should bring about raging fury, his theory had immediate results.

*Roaaaaaaaar*

Nathan’s ‘Threat Detection’ went off the charts, as the mimic roared at him.

Nathan: “Hollee-”

*Smash*

Nathan jumped out of the way just in time, as the rock he was just standing on had been simply destroyed. The mimic had lunged at him from more than a 9 meters away and was almost successful in ending him. However, it seemed because of the poison, the mimic’s landing wasn’t as impressive and it smashed right through the rock and hit the ground.

Nathan ducked down as one of the mimic’s claws passed by him barely.

Nathan: “You can stretch, since when could you stretch!?”

Then as just quickly jumped to the side as the hand smashed into the ground where he had just been standing. Nathan didn’t waste time as he took off into the forest. He wasn’t aware that the Mimic could stretch and wasn’t going to test its range, but that wasn’t up to him.

The mimic’s arms, like whips, lashed around Nathan as he sped through the forest; leveling the forest as it attempted to ensnare Nathan. It was coming dangerously close to catching him each swing. As the distance between them shrunk, the Mimics attacks were becoming more and more precise.

However, the mimic wasn’t going to just him skewer alive, it was going to consume him. It wanted to gnaw on the flesh of the creature that dared to take its treasure’s from it and retrieve the sword that the creature had across its back.

Nathan: “Almost there.”

*Swish*

While still attacking him with its claws, the mimic lunged forward and at that exact moment, Nathan stopped and leapt straight up into the air, avoiding the mimic’s attack , and at the same time, successfully lured the mimic into his trap. The mimic realized that the ground had vanished from beneath it and replaced with a large waterfall leading into a gaping abyss.

Nathan watched as the mimic soared off the cliffs edge, unable to stop its momentum after its attack and earlier, while running around, Nathan could hear the sound of rushing water and figured it was something like a waterfall. All he needed to do now was to get the mimic to lunge at him near the cliff and gravity would take care of the rest. This was how it should have gone.

*Grab*

Nathan: “What!?”

While Nathan was still air-born, the mimic spun around and grabbed Nathan’s leg, smashing him into the ground and pulling along and to the cliffs edge. Taking his sword in-hand, he plunged it into the ground, stopping himself from being pulled over. The mimic tried to pry him free from the make-shift grapple, but Nathan wouldn’t budge.

Nathan: “Hghn, let go.”

The mimic climbed its way back up onto the ledge, using Nathan as leverage. His plan failed, not only did he fail to send the mimic plummeting into the abyss, he had also effectively been captured. Now still holding onto Nathan’s leg the mimic whipped Nathan up into the air, successfully wrenching him away from his weapon.

Nathan: “Whaoooooaaaa!”

*Baam**Bam**Bam*

The Mimic smashed Nathan into the ground, before lifting him up and into the air and started repeating this action. It seemed as Nathan had done this earlier to the mimic, it returned the favor and continued to whip him back ‘n forth.

Nathan: “Gaghh!”

The mimic then finished him off with one final smash into the broadside of a tree. Nathan went limp in the mimic’s hand; as it reeled him in. Dangling him in front of its face, shaking him to gauge a reaction, however nothing came of it. The mimic then dropped him on to the ground and when Nathan didn’t move or try to escape, it knew it had successfully killed him.

The Mimic reached for the sword, but immediately pulled its hand back when it felt a force coming from the sheath. It couldn’t touch the blade, but that wasn’t going to deter it. The Mimic picked Nathan up and then dangled him over near its mouth, before dropping him inside and snapping shut. It had plan to devour him anyway, separately though. Trying to consume both at the same time would prove tedious, but now it was too late. It would just enjoy its meal.

Mimic: “Gorgh!?”

Suddenly as the Mimic went to digest its meal, a foul taste crept across its palette. The digesting taste of poison, the taste it experienced recently, spread throughout its mouth and was quickly filling; draining its strength.

It went to spit out the foul substance, but just as it tried to open, vines shot up around its feet, and quickly wrapping around its head preventing it from opening. It tried to claw at the vines, but no matter how many it cut down, two more would take its place.

Nathan: “Yeah I’ve been there, food poisonings the worse.”

The mimic made a shock-like sound hearing the muffled voice coming from inside, Nathan was still alive. After being caught by the Mimic, Nathan immediately thought of this plan. The poison he secreted wasn’t as strong as the poison he could fire off, but it was poison non e the less. No one but Nathan or who he allowed, could remove the sword from him, which mean the only way to claim his prize is to swallow them both together.

Nathan: “Speaking of poison, Venom Burst, Venom Burst, Venom Burst…”

Nathan shot-off spell after spell inside of the Mimic, flooding it with poison, so much that even without attacking; the Mimic’s HP was depleting rapidly. It was only a matter of time before it fell over dead.

Zane: “FOUL BEAST, RELEASE HER.”

Nathan: “(Huh, was that Zane!?)”

Nathan was surprised in hearing Zane show up out of nowhere and even more shocked when suddenly light was cast onto him. An attempt to save Nathan, Zane had released a flurry of sword slashes, cutting away all the vines holding down the Mimic and then jumping back, when the mimic began to throw up the contents of its mouth.

Nathan along with poison and spew from the Mimic rained down onto the ground. Zane quickly ran over to Nathan, who was coughing from the poison that had got in his mouth.

Nathan: “*Cough*Aw sick.”

Zane: “Stray flower I’m glad to see you in one piece.”

Nathan: “Don’t call me that. What are you doing here?”

Zane: “I explain later, right now. “

Zane turned his blade towards the mimic, who was at Death’s door. It had absorbed way too much poison, even after it ejected most from its insides; it had long become unable to move.

Zane: “I shall vanquish this soul-less creature. “

Zane charged at the Mimic and began slashing at the beast, but being unable to move, the Mimic had no way to avoid the charging man. Nathan didn’t care anymore, he was tired from the consecutive magic attacks he used and could barely stand, not to mention being swung around like a rag doll.

From where the Mimic was positioned, a few more hits would send it over the edge. He would let Zane finish it for him, after using so much magic he was too tired to do anything anyways. He flopped backwards onto the ground, reaching to his back to remove the obstruction but quickly rose back up.

Nathan: “What the hell?”

Nathan felt his back and a since of dread ran through his body as he realize there was no obstruction he had to move aside to touch his back. The ‘Hero Sword’ was gone. He quickly got to his feet and looked around, he couldn’t find it, but he was sure he’d had it on his back when he was eaten.

Nathan: “*Gasp*”

Nathan turned back to Zane and the Mimic, the mimic was now on the edge and Zane ready to strike.

Nathan: “ZANE, NO!”

Nathan yelled way too late as one final strike from Zane’s sword sent the Mimic soaring over the cliff and down into the abyss below. Nathan quickly ran over to edge and looked over, but it was futile. The Mimic had fallen and disappeared. Nathan stared over the edge, unable to comprehend what had just happened.

Zane: “Do not worry my stray flower, nothing ever returns from this abyss.”

Zane’s statement just made the situation all the more shocking to Nathan. The weapon that symbolized the great Hero of Leseres, ‘Origin’, was gone forever; lost to the void.

Nathan: “Oh………shit.”
