《The Foxy Dungeon》First Draft Ch. 6 Diary of a fox spirit

Magic power gathers forth to create a monster. The dungeon chooses to create a red fox. The power gathers an I am born. At least, that’s how it should be, but power is still gathering. It feels as though I will appear at a greater age than before. As I am created I feel as though knowledge is forming in my head. I am no ordinary red fox. I am a proud Kitsune! I immediately thank my master for granting me the honor of being the first of my kind.
My master then asks me about why I only have a single tail. I wanted to tell him I didn’t know at first, but then I felt the knowledge I had gained show me the answer. I then inform him of of what I have know, but as I speak I realize that he was expecting much more of me. I must have failed my master. I could only be this much… He quickly informs me that it was just his curiosity and not his expectation, but I’m sure he must be disapointed that I wasn’t stronger. My master seems to be very kind.
Curious of my own powers, I try testing them out. Knowledge of what they are also appears within me, I can create powerful illusions, I can wield a powerful fox fire, I can even shapeshift to a human form! I certainly can’t practice something dangerous close to my master, and there isn’t anyone to trick with an illusion. So I try to shift to a human form. Although I manage to make myself into a human form, even turning my fur into clothes, I couldn’t hide my ears or my tail. Even holding the form feels a bit difficult. But I’m sure that if I can master this, I’ll be better able to protect my master. I sit in a respectful manner and carefully focus on maintaining this form.
Soon master create a new room for the dungeon. The moment it appears I rush over, as it’s a chance to finally practice my fox fire! After I reached the room though, I immediately feel as though master might be in danger! I rush back and see that he’s fine. I hurriedly return to the next room so as to start training to protect master, but that feeling returns, just as strong as before! After repeating that a few times, I realize that master has been watching me the entire time! I’m so embarrassed I stay in the next room as I can’t face master after such a mistake! I begin training to distract myself.

After some time I’m feeling tired. I can’t just rest though, as master needs me to be ready at any time! Master then calls me to his side. I go to him as quickly as I can and sit at attention to receive his instruction.
Yuna…
Yuna…
I am Yuna…
I almost feel like I’ll cry. Master has given me a name! Yuna! I am Yuna! I quickly bow and give him thanks, I know I’ve yet to really prove myself worthy of a name, yet he’s given me one! Afterwards he tells me his plans on how he will handle invaders of the dungeon.I will be in charge of creating an illusion to hide and protect master with while he’ll summon more monsters to defend the rest of the dungeon. My master’s trusting me with an important job! I will not let him down! He then creates some food he calls ‘Fried Tofu,’ it tastes delicious. After I finish the food however, I can’t resist falling asleep.
I failed my master againnn! Master even gave me a second chance after I failed to be as strong as he wanted, and now I couldn’t even stay awake to protect him! Such a terrible monster is his first to be created. Even worse is that I am even his first named monster! I’m sorry you have to deal with such a terrible me as your first master! I can’t believe how great of a failure I am!
After master manages to calm me down, he begins to create additional monsters… He must certainly be disappointed with me and now he’s creating better monsters to replace me… Or so I thought but isn’t the new monster weaker than me? Master seems excited and wants to see the human form of the new kitsune… Master, I don’t know how to say this, but that won’t happen. The kitsune needs at least 50 to 100 years you know. I am at this level due to your power, but you didn’t do the same for this one, did you make a mistake? My master tells me that this little one and other kitsune like it would be great to scout outside the dungeon while I’m here to guard him. Master still trusts me!

Master creates a few more of the lesser kitsune and has them wait at different parts of the dungeon. I’m not sure why master does this as their strength would be greater in a group, but it is likely a part of his strategy somehow. He also links the dungeon to the outside. I’m not sure how anyone would find us like he said, but master told me that it’s better to have us decide the entrance of the dungeon, and not some random invader who wants to destroy us. Well it would be bad if someone dug a hole into the core room, how would they even find us?
Master is amazing! Not too long after he opened the dungeon, invaders showed up. Master then has me create an illusion of his core in the room that’s a dead end. I also have to maintain the false wall that hides us. It’s actually really hard, but I try not to show it. I don’t want to fail master again, so I’ll give it my all! Master is depending on me!
Those invaders pushed through everything our dungeon had! They just did whatever they wanted and left. This is too frustrating! If master hadn’t had me hid him here, who know what might happen to him! I can’t keep being so weak! I need to find some way to grow stronger! I need to become the strongest to protect master!
Master started talking and stopped in the middle of his sentence, he’s never done that before. Before I can ask what’s wrong, master shouts to replace the false wall. He hasn’t shouted before, something must be wrong! I place my full power into the illusion.
What! That invader saw thru my illusion so easily! I placed all my strength in it! I have to stop him now! I bring out my fox fire and fling them at him! My fire isn’t anything like the weak flames of the lesser kitsune, mine will keep burning. What!?! He just batted my fox fire like nothing! Too stunned to react, the invader slashes me with his weapon, causing me to fall in a bloody mess.
I failed again didn’t I…
I couldn’t even protect master…
I failed…
Suddenly I feel a burst of power! Where is this coming from? My tail soon splits, then splits again. I, why am I so much stronger? Did master do something? I look around till I finally spot master. He’s faintly glowing and at rest on the floor, instead of floating in the middle of the room, he even seems a bit bigger than usual.
A sudden thought hits me. I can defeat master. My power is great enough. He also can’t resist. This is the best time to destroy him! This way I can be free! Be free… What would I be free of again? Master has always been kind to me… He’s trusted me despite how I’ve failed him again and again… he gave me a name and great food… He found some way to save me even though I was supposed to be the one protecting him. Shaking my head I wonder what I was even thinking. Resisting master wouldn’t make me free. He… he doesn’t treat me like some disposable pawn, but as something very valuable. I… I am masters guardian! I will not let him down! I’m not sure what’s wrong master, but I’ll keep you safe! This time I’ll protect you!

The Grey Realm, an Erebus Story.
Written by: Staugroan and The Inklets. Edited by: Claudia Adams. In the beginning there was a god, who watched over and made one world his own. Soon after the god grew restless, but happened to stumble on a small world filled with life. This world was named Erebus by its peoples; humanity. The god was so fascinated with this new world that he started to copy it back home, creating oceans, forests, deserts, and so forth. Then the god created life and eventually his favored creations who would be immortals and be the better of mankind in every way-the elves. So often the god had traveled to Erebus that the two worlds became linked by magic and their inhabitants could cross at will. Relations between the races flourished, and a great empire was born in the Grey Realm, home of the elves. But the god once again grew restless, and set loose great beasts that stood at the top of any food chain, the apex. At first the elves met the challenge and fought them head on. But mankind was not so lucky, they died in droves to push back even a single apex. Something had to be done. Elves and man worked together to begin sealing off the worlds to protect mankind, to limit the ways in and out to better fight the apex off and keep their fellows safe. The ritual had adverse effects the likes of which neither the elves nor man could predict; the sealing of the worlds started slow, but the magic had never been done before, and in their ignorance it spread to completely cut the two worlds off from one another. It ejected the apex, and other magical being back into the Grey Realm, saving Erebus. At first the elves were content, they would find a way back once the apex were dead and gone. But the seal had done more than keep Erebus locked away. The powersource of the seal was magic itself, from both worlds, and it consumed it all greedily. The elves, weakened without their magic, crumbled into ruin, and the apex were free to hunt the other races of the Grey Realm. Two-thousand years later a strange phenomena is occurring and magic is slowly returning to the Grey Realm, and tears open that allow passage to Erebus. Thu'lain and a few elves must make the journey to fallen kingdom of the elves Anosora, in the hopes of reclaiming what was once theirs. They must face their nemesis the apex, and survive not only the species that have turned against them, but a terrible being left behind by the god to kill even the apex. Uch'l'thein, the faceless terror.
