CHAPTER 22 - UNKNOWN ELEMENT
While I was submerged in a fleeting feeling of deep longing for my loved ones that I left at home, a thought occurred to me when my eyes glance briefly at the now hollowed ice pillar.
How could an ice such like this manage to absorb heat and sound? How could I overlook such a thing?
I quickly picked up a piece of broken ice shard as curiosity enveloped my whole heart. My mind was so occupied on how to save the elf girl that I neglect to investigate this thing.
"There must be something in here..."
An ordinary ice would melt upon contact with fire or shatter when applied with vibrations. Even if one would to argue that this frozen water is imbued or enchanted by magic, the same could also be said to its counterparts since both are also magic related.
Does this mean that this ice is influenced by something that is not related to magic?
There's only one way to find out if my hypothesis is correct.
"[Chemical Diagnosis]."
A holographic window popped up in front of me, hovering in mid-air as it displayed some data regarding the inspected material. [Chemical Diagnosis] is a skill under > sub-ability which allows one to identify an object's chemical composition.
One might say this is a one hell of skill that every scientists or chemists would salivated for.

I almost jumped out of shock and disbelief when I saw this. How could you still call this 'a solid form of water' when there's a third element bonded to it? This is simply just ridiculous!
This revelation defies the law of chemistry that I knew so far! But if you think about it, this world had already defied science by the existence of mana and ether in the ecosystem.

I bit my lip as my eyes were glistening with a powerful desire to know more about this unknown element.
Discovery of the century, here I come!

After three hours of non-stop studying and experimentation, I've gathered some great findings regarding with this unknown element.
1. It solidifies any liquid, plasma and gaseous matter that is bonded to it.
2. It liquefies any solid matter that is bonded to it.
3. It absorbs kinetic energy.
I laughed like a mad scientist as if I discovered a holy grail in the field of chemistry. I named this new element > from the name of the discoverer which happens to be me of course, and just added the suffix -ium at the end so just to sound Latin-like.
Pretty impressive, huh?
I have already extracted a certain amount of >. Now the only thing that's needed to be done is to create something using this element.
Hmm, what should I create?
Oh! That would be great. Okay let's do that.
I invoked a Weapon Creation Magus Array on the ground as I placed all the required items on each sections of the magic circle; a hilt, a portion of >, a ball of fire, and a collar.
Without further hesitation, I sat cross-legged on the ground and began to meditate. Inside my mind I pictured myself inside a workshop with all tools at hand. As I began creating a weapon inside my head, the Magus Array began to glow as it enveloped all of the materials.
In my imaginary workshop, I quickly took the [Fire Ball] and poured some > on it forming an orange red ore with jagged edges. Then I began to mentally forged the ore in an elongated shape simultaneously.

I repeatedly hammered the thing until it was in a shape that I desired. I used the Japanese method of forging. After that, I attached the other parts to the proper areas and used [Sound Vibration] to polish the blade.

After long hours of imaginary smiting, I slowly opened my eyes. In front of me the Magus Array was encased in an extreme white light. I stood up, took a deep breath and willfully entered my right arm inside the light shell. When it felt that I grabbed something, I quickly pulled my hand out of the magic circle.
Several glowing ember-like particles flew outwards. Held with my hand is a single, curved blade that glows brightly with bright orange incandescence.

I chose the name Kagutsuchi after the kami of fire in Japanese mythology since upon seeing this katana that I made, the words 'to shine' and 'power' echoed throughout of my head.
