《From Max to Zero to God》Chapter 39 - Night Spark Hawk

It took 3 days for Han Ling to find what he was looking for…
In the Realm of Monsters, there were hundreds of flying beasts, some much stronger than others. There was the Mythical Phoenix, but Han Ling couldn’t even hope to contend a powerful beast like that.
There were rankings in beasts, there was the common one like wind wolfs and such, then there were the uncommon beasts like the Snow tiger, Inferno Lion, Ground turtle and such. Then there were the rare beasts, normally king type beasts. Then there were the Unknown beasts, those that have no known information of them. And finally there was the Mythical rank, monsters that are only heard from books, extremely rare to see.
At Han Ling’s current rank, he would barely be able to contend Unknown Beasts, Mythical beasts would tear him in a second. So, three days ago, Han Ling searched for a flying beast to take its wings.
There were a few interesting beasts, the Thunder Eagle and Hurricane Falcons were powerful flying beasts, but they weren’t what Han Ling needed. To really stand a chance against the monsters of the future, Han Ling needed something much more powerful.
Han Ling scaled the rocky mountains of Mount Omine on the first day, finding nothing interesting. He then moved towards another set of mountains, travelling for a full 3 days until Obsidian Hollow suddenly spoke.
Han Ling paused, “Do you have an idea where it is?”
Han Ling leaped in that direction, circling the mountain Hollow mentioned and found a large indent at the side. He entered without hesitation, hiding his aura to the best of his ability. With steps as soft as a cat’s, he leaped from stone to stone, quickly reaching deep in the cave.
And there it was, a giant Hawk, its black feathers were ruffled and unkempt, its body was as big as a tank, its wings furled close to its body. The hawk was fast asleep, oblivious to the human next to it.
Han Ling activated Kuebiko’s eye…
Night Spark Hawk (Nightmare Beast) (Weakened)
Level: 99 (??/??)
Unique Element: Nightmare
Age: 1,921,211
Class: Nightmare Monster (King rank)
ATK: 832
DEF: 153
SPD: 521
Magic ATK: 3211
Mana: 2,832/13,890
HP: 100,921/875,000
Han Ling’s eyes widened, “Weakened?” Then he caught sight of the wings of the Hawk. He marvelled at the sight of those wings, clearly amazed at the strength in those wings. He stealthily moved around the standing hawk, watching its feathers with a sparkle in his eye. “Those wings look amazing… I’ll have to make sure not to damage them in the fight…”
He carefully prepared, checking for any issues with his body. Even if a beast is weakened, it could kill Han Ling in a single strike, luckily the beast was weakened, or Han Ling wouldn’t have lived if he stepped in the cave.

With a flick of his wrist, Bloody Baren’s Blade was summoned into his hand, and nine bloody sabres appeared in the air. With a burst of mana in the air, the Hawk opened its eyes, beady yellow eyes fixing on the human in front of it.
The Hawk’s eyes flared. “SCREEEEE!” Its wings unfurled, a wingspan of 10 meters, those black wings twitched, and a thousand bolts of dark lighting coated the feathers. The Hawk screeched and both wings swung forward, hundreds of razor sharp feathers fired towards the human.
Han Ling summoned Obsidian Hollow and plunged it in the ground.
[Hollow Burst]
A burst of purple mana surged forward, deflecting the storm of feathers. The moment the feathers fell, Han Ling launched the nine sabres forward. The Hawk launched another barrage of feathers, slicing through the red sabres like butter. Han Ling cursed, appearing in front of the hawk in a flash, “Shimmering Flash!”
The Hawk raised a claw, its sharp talons clashing with the blade. The moment the claw blocked the blade, a dark energy sank into the beast, causing it to screech in pain. The dark bolts of lighting on its feathers disappeared, all its skills silenced.
The hawk stared at the cold purple eyes of the human and felt a shiver run down its spine. The human pulled the sword back before slashing forward, a wave of sword energy slashing across the beast’s chest.
Indescribable pain exploded in the Hawk’s mind, it fell to the ground, blood oozing out its beak. Han Ling leaped down, not giving the bird a chance to breathe.
[Void Edge]
SCREEEEEE!
[Three-Fold Strike]
SCREEEEEEEEE!
[Void Sword Style: First form. Billowing Vortex]
[Void Sword Style: Second Form. Abyssal Surge]
[Abyssal Crescent]
SCRE-SCREEEE!
The 2 seconds passed, but the Hawk was sprawled on the ground its feathers matted with blood, but its wings were completely unharmed. Han Ling activated Void Aura, repeatedly stabbing the bird again and again till the life in its eye disappeared.
[You have slain a Night Spark Hawk.]
[You have levelled up.]
Han Ling looked at the interface, surprised at the message, “I levelled up once? Wow, that’s a large amount of experience.” Currently, Han Ling was level 67, and he knew how difficult it was to level up, just a level from 66 and 67 required 4 million experience.
Han Ling blinked back to the room with the beast, nearly filling up the entire space due to its large size. Zenkibo was nearly squashed by the giant thing if he didn’t teleport out in time.
“You nearly gave me a heart attack!” Zenkibo ruffled his beard under his mask, shaking slightly at the sight of the large hawk. “This is a Night Spark Hawk! How in the world did you kill something this strong?!” Han Ling just shrugged, “I got lucky.”

Zenkibo felt the words “Bullshit!” form at the tip of his tongue but he swallowed it in silence. “You wish to take the wings of the bird?” “Ah I nearly forgot.”
Han Ling summoned Obsidian Hollow and slashed the chest of the beast, spraying blood all over the room. Zenkibo teleported out the room the moment the blade bit in the Hawk’s flesh. He returned with annoyed eyes as the human didn’t even warn him. Han Ling pulled out a bloody purple crystal, wiping the blood from the cold surface and inspecting it.
[Kuebiko’s Eye]
Void Speck (Rare)
Type: Miscellaneous
Details: Even the dusts of the void could carry such immense power, when a void creature absorbs it, it is a wonder what would happen…
Han Ling frowned at the description, it didn’t tell him anything, yet he understood that the thing in his hand was something beneficial to him. Hollow voiced out her opinion,
He stared at the crystal, only the size of nail, yet the mana emitting from it was immense.
But he decided to put it away for now…
And so Zenkibo instructed Han Ling at every step, first was the blood of both the host and the beast. The blood mixed and Zenkibo muttered a chant, swirling the blood with a finger. From his finger, the liquid turned gold, like ice quickly forming on a lake. Zenkibo handed the cup to Han Ling, and the latter drank it in one go, a metallic yet delicious taste filled his mouth.
The body of the hawk turned gold and flowed into the ground, moving towards Han Ling. Once the gold liquid touched Han Ling, he felt a little throb of a heartbeat.
Suddenly, immense pain hammered against Han Ling’s heart, causing him to cough out, blood splattering the walls of the room. “You must hold it in, the Sora Ga Maiagaru is a treacherous process, and you have to hold it in for the process to succeed.” Zenkibo spoke from the side, watching Han Ling lurch on the ground, hands forming fists and mind flickering in and out of consciousness.
Han Ling held in the pain, pushing it to the back of his mind. With frigid movements, Han Ling sat in a cross-legged position, feeling the enormous power bursting in his body. “Now push that power into your back, your wings will form naturally from there.”
He did as he was told, feeling the surge of mana flow to his back. Still, he felt the enormous power, yet there was something missing… like a piece on a puzzle. The power on his back writhed like a thrashing snake, but he could start to feel it decrease, oozing out his back.
Zenkibo gazed at the young man with a sense of awe. A pair of small wings were attached on his back, poking out his shirt. By the second, the wings grew bigger and bigger, till they were 6 meters in length.
Then the glow disappeared, light particles shedding like skin. Beautiful pitch-black feathers ran along the wing, its surface gleaming as if covered in oil. Zenkibo nodded in satisfaction, a wide smile under his blood-red mask. “You have done well—”
SHUOOOHHH BOOM!
Zenkibo was struck by a powerful mana wave, slamming him into the wall with a yelp. He was stuck to the wall, the pressure emitting from the young man intensifying, squishing him deeper in the wall. Zenkibo attempted to call for help, but a wind wall appeared, diverting the powerful pressure to the side.
Sojobo appeared in the room, his crow wings unfurled and covering him from the onslaught of mana. “What happened here!?” Zenkibo frantically shook his head, “I-I-I do not know head chief, he grew his wings successfully, but suddenly mana exploded from him.”
The Head Chief stared at the young man in the middle, the torrent of mana swirling around him like a storm. His eyes were distant, and arms limp. “He lost consciousness, we need to seal him in for the meantime.” He roared at the top of his lungs, “CHIEFTAINS!” and all 10 other chieftains appeared in the room, both hands raised as if pushing forwards. “KAZE NI SAKARATTE HA!”
A green barrier emitted from all 12 chieftain’s hands, pulsing like a beating heart, sealing Han Ling inside. The moment the barrier encased the human, the torrent of mana disappeared. Sojobo breathed a sigh of relief, “Tell me exactly what happened Zenkibo.”
The chieftain explained everything he saw, “But there was a strange purple crystal that the boy took out.” Sojobo’s eyebrows furrowed, “A purple crystal?”
He then took out his fan, swiping it in the air, and frowning at whatever he saw in the air.
“That boy… he took a void speck out of the beast’s body…” the other chieftain’s face were masks of surprise. Zenkibo himself looked pale.
“He…” Sojobo pointed to Han Ling in the green orb, “is a chosen of the void…”
