《From Max to Zero to God》Chapter 4- Creeping Caves

The first calamity brought upon the age of dungeons. They are… a strange phenomenon, they are a treasure for those who love adventure, a calamity for cowards, and an act of god for religions. But the several governments treated these dungeons as resources, countries like China and America dumped all their players into dungeons, promising them immense wealth.
It was why China and America became extremely powerful countries in the future. Meanwhile, Japan focused on stopping all dungeons from opening, making sure to keep the citizens safe before attempting a dive. A ‘dive’ it quite literally a dive into the dungeon, normally there would be a team of 5, all with different elements to back one another.
Classes would later be fit into four categories: Tank, Damage Dealer, Support, Mage, healer.
But there have been times when people solo dungeons, gaining bountiful rewards and an unknown title…
The moment Han Ling’s feet touches the hard, wet ground…

GRR….
A dozen wolfmen stood snarling at the human, showing beastly grins at their luck for a human to run right into their hunt.
12 wolfmen… 4 at LVL 2… 3 at LVL 1. Damn… Looks like I need to spend some money.
Han Ling hit the shop, dumping 500 drabs into a tome of experience.
Tome of experience (Miscellaneous)
Use: Grants player 500 XP once.
Remark: Basically, a cheat item for starters…
A golden glow bathed Han Ling, snaking around his limbs, nourishing the muscle, and hardening the skin. Golden texts form above his head, showing the words LVL 1 before vanishing and replaced with LVL 2.
Han Ling took a look at his stats.

[Randomizing Class Specific reward…]
[You have obtained Class Specific skill: Sword Aura]
LVL 1 Sword Aura (Class Specific skill)
A sword is imbued with mana, increasing Attack Damage by 10% of Atk. Lasts for 30 Seconds. Cooldown is 60 seconds. Mana cost: 20
Han Ling smiled. Damn where the hell was this luck in my past life? Sword Aura is a top ranked skill for swordsman. There is a 10% chance to obtain the sword aura skill during the LVL 2 advancement. Even Han Ling got the skill after a year of living in Sovereign’s Battleground.
Now I have this skill, all I need is mana and I’ll be unbeatable for a week! The goddess of luck loves me!
Han Ling grinned stupidly at himself, causing the wolfmen to frown. Where did this mental human come from? The LVL 2 leader stepped forward with a growl and Han Ling’s grin vanished, replaced with a cold hard stare. He raised both swords, right arm in front, left over his head, legs bent, like a coiled snake ready to strike. Three wolfman howled, dashing forward with claws outstretched.
Cracks formed on the ground below Han Ling, his legs bulging. Like a loose bullet, Han Ling fired forward, slashing at the first wolfman.

[Slash]

He took a step forward, and thrust his other sword forward , stabbing straight through the beast’s heart.
“ARGHHHH!!!”
With his LVL 2 strength, he threw the wolfman to the other two. The corpse slammed into the two wolfmen, staggering them for 2 seconds. The moment they regained their balance the human was a feet away from them, both swords raised, eyes gleaming. Panic filled their minds as they raised their claws. But it was too late…
[Slash] [Thrust]
-78 CRITICAL – 73 CRITICAL
His right sword buried into the wolfman’s throat while the left slashed across the other’s eyes. The wolfman on the right grasped his throat, guggling blood from his maw. The other howled as he covered his eyes, blood flowing out the gash.
[You have inflicted debuff BLEED. Enemies shall lose 5% hp every second]
It didn’t take long for both to become still, bodies turning to white dust.
A golden glow flowed over Han Ling once again as the word LVL 3 appeared above his head.
The weaker wolfmen shivered, involuntarily taking a step back, flinching as the human looked at them. His gaze was cold, calm, and calculative… like looking into the deep abyss…

I Have Even Read the Rulebook!
As all stories begin, Prof died. Yes, truck-kun had something to do with that, but also a bird, a cat and some rebar. When he was presented with with the opportunity in the Afterlife Administration Bureau to be transmigrated into a game-like fantasy world, he did something, no one ever did: he read the Rulebook. Follow Prof on his road to be rich without working, touring a whole new world without a care and witness his realisation, that despite having read the Rulebook the folks living with the System for untold millennia know more about the rules. Important notes: 1, I'm not a native speaker, so be prepared for occassional typos, iffy grammar and maybe awkward sentences. The spell check was running, when I wrote the chapters, but it works in strange ways... If you point out mistakes, I will try to correct them 2, Scheduling will be two chapters a week, posted Saturdays before noon (CET). Depending on how much new chapters I can write consistently there will be probably more but as long as I have leftover chapters, the two per week will be posted no matter what. Chapters will be around 1500-2500 words as MS Word counts it. 3, I did not and will not post this novel on another site, if you find it somewhere else, please inform me 4, The Main Character's progression is slow, there will be no Levels, Skills, Abilities, Feats, Perks and Cheat Powers raining down on him 5, I've put Comedy as a genre because of my writing style not because the novel is a comedy per se. On the other hand, Traumatising Content is there because there is a lot of speciesism - those Elves are not nice people. 6, I put a lot of pop-cultural references into the chapters, try to find them! Enjoy!

Its a culmination of the things that made me laugh, cry and smile when I first read them and It has been a personal wish to craft a story that makes me feel the way I did when reading those stories for the first time. Its gonna be a slow ride but worth it. Promise. Photo by Johannes Plenio on Unsplash
