《Dao of Emperor》Chapter 85 Rean

Hi guys, first chap of the week! But before that I wanted to thank all of you guys for reading the novel and kind of giving me the energy and motivation to keep up writing. I do like to write, but usually I quickly loose my interest in it and just drop it in it's beginnings. But this time I actually managed to write whopping 85 chapters up to now and still have the wish to continue with doing so.
Also as most have probably noticed my writing style and the grammar as improved insanely compared to the original beginning chapters. I know it's still not quite there and I will still improve to the best of my ability, but I think that up to now I have done quite good I hope you also think this way.
This is after all my first realm novel and my first try to even write in english, it's pretty obvious that if I would write in my native language german I would do much better then right now, but I have decided that I will write in english and I will continue doing so as long as I can.
Well that's all I just wanted to thank you all and well, kind of talk about the progress I made in the half year that this novel is already in work.
Enjoy the CHAPTER!
Chapter 85
Next day.
Units of church soldiers once again storm against the tall mountain like monolith, kicking up tons of dust and once again turning the whole battle field into the interior of a sandstorm taking a huge deal of their own vision. Once again balls of fire and whole clouds of lightning flew above their heads and took the lives of countless soldiers.
Fire danced around the struggling flood of white armored soldiers firing endless streams of attacks against the formationcovered monoliths. The charred corpses of their soldiers lied scattered across the ground and while the soldiers were still struggling there were first signs of falling apart inside of their units.
This time, the soldiers did not panic upon the descend of the fire balls and managed to avoid a great deal of damage through qi shields they kept up all the time. Because of that their troops did not scattered as in the last attack but managed to organize and survive the first volley of the monolith's garrisons.
After wards, they still welcomed the Blue Lightning that seemed to out of the air, causing a count of causalities amongst the church troops. Every third soldiers had been killed in the attack. Nevertheless, they managed to preserve this time and even though their losses were great, they did not bulge and actually only intensified their fire.

Of course, there were still people dying because of the fire balls and the Blue lightning snipers, but compered to yesterdays total annihilation or the first attacks high death count there were much less causalities as the soldiers became wary of the sudden ambushes.
They now bayed attention to their surroundings and if there was the smallest sign of an attack they would immediately dodge away.
This on the other hand was a disadvantage as they often slammed into the soldiers next to them, causing all of them to loose balance and often also destroy their caution. This unfortunate openings were instantly used by the soldiers on the monolith to blast the whole group away using either a fire ball, or a barrage of lightnings.
But despite all the problems and disadvantages the church was facing, the still managed to somehow preserve and continue their attacks.
Furthermore they started to try out new tactics.
Small squads of four people were suddenly thrown onto the monoliths using either qi techniques or a catapult and tried to kill the enemy sniper divisions.
Of course most of this attempts were useless and resulted in the entire squads death as the troops on top of the monolith outnumbered them vastly. But some of this suicide attackers actually succeed in killing a few of the snipers before being killed themselves.
After all the snipers were focused on the battlefield on the ground and couldn't divide their attention at two places on the same time. Because of this they could be easily killed if caught of guard.
The garrisons quickly reacted and detached men to guard the snipers to ensure their safety. Soon afterward as the suicide attacks did not succeed anymore, the church also stopped doing them. There was no point in sending good soldiers into a inevitable and useless death and in truth the church couldn't really afford any more heavy losses as they already had lost many men on the way to the city and even more people in the siege against Bluedragon city.
In this manner two weeks passed in intense struggle on one side and rather calm counters of the other side.
“Rean, get back to your post QUICKLY!”
While on the outside the garrisons on top of the four monoliths seemed to be completely relaxed as they just had to fire down at the enemies without the fear of being struck by enemy-fire, in truth the men there were also completely out powered because of the restless attacks.

After all, the operating of the attack arrays required a lot of concentration and used up much qi while firing. Normally this would by no problem, as there was enough qi on the monolith to quickly recharge the lost energy, but under the unceasing attacks even them slowly broke down exhausted.
Originally there was only one snipe division attached to one monolith, but as the pressure on this specially trained experts became to big, four additional sniper divisions from the outer wall were send to the monoliths to lessen the pressure on every induvidual.
Still, because of the never ending waves of church soldiers storming at them, they had to fire with almost no stops in between and even though the now had two divisions per monolith who could switch places, the strain was still there.
Right now it was the original, or also first sniper division called unit's duty and since it was mid day and the enemies attacks were on full output, they felt quite the pressure fighting them.
Rean, the youth who had been asking about the bet's amongst the soldiers a few couple of days, a newbie that never had fought against anyone and never experienced war before, had by now completely lost his aura of pureness and naivety.
The days of slaughter and the sight of countless people dying, amongst the enemies and the allies had quickly made him realize what it mend to fight a war and even though at the beginning he had been a bit hesitant while shooting the clueless soldiers that struggled for their lives down there. Right now he was a full fledged elite sniper that shoot down tens of enemies in each charge.
In fact he was even recognized by commander as a very promising sniper and even received some support for the military.
Because of this and the fact that he was originally a newbie no one expected much from got him the nickname snippie. Of course even though the nickname was kind of degrading everyone in the unit valued Reans skill in sniping and even though they were a bit envious of the support he got from the military they all were nice to him.
Also since Rean was an amiable type of person he quickly got himself many friends in the garrison who he could rely on.
At the moment the person in name was hurrying to his array. A few moments later the duty had changed and so there was a bit of chaos as the soldiers exchanged their places.
But a few moments later, the arrays were one again operated and new barrages of lightning stroke down onto the enemy.
Calmly Rean channeled his qi into the multiple formations forming the array and located the enemy. With a intent of his he locked onto the clueless soldier struggling against the flames around him and in the next moment a black charred corpse fell to the ground.
“Whaaa you are really as good as they say!”
A voice came from next to him.
It was a young girl around his age that was also standing in front of the wall with the array in it channeling qi into it. But instead of focusing on hitting her target she instead watched as Rean shoot down three soldiers in succession and aimed for the next.
Rean looked at her from the corner of his eyes and while shooting the next poor soul he asked.
“Shouldn't you kill men instead of uselessly chatting?”
“Bruhhh, don't be so cold! Shouldn't you rather be happy that a beauty like me is even talking to you Mr Redlight District?”
A small smile curled around her lips as he looked at the cold face of Rean.
“Mind your own business, also what do you mean with beauty? Just 'cause you are a girl do you think that I will take you? Even if you begged me I wouldn't sleep with you!
And now shut up and snipe the guys down there!”
The girls smile froze.
“So it be then, hm? Let's see who will kill more before the end of the day.”
In the next moment three enemy soldiers suddenly lifelessly dropped to the ground. Rean startled. But in the next moment he also activated the array three times in succession and three bodies also fell to the ground destined to never again stand up.
After this the two started to compete and as the day ended and the floods of soldiers pulled back like a white tide, both had a death count of 1000.

Despite completing a holy mission from the Goddess of Mercy, obtaining a holy Relic, and escaping from demon-infested ruins, Father Anscham is in greater peril than ever before. Ravaged in mind, body, and soul, the solace he begs to receive from the Church of Flesh is impeded by a cruel lesson: the ramifications of a life spent sacrificing everything one has for others. See through the harrowing eyes of a man at his wit's end; through a dark fantasy tale of horror, hope, and desperation. Search for the cure. Conquer your personal demons. Welcome to Catalyst!
