The Climate of the Island of Haven

Due to it's latitude and location, the island of Haven has a mild climate. The side the island that the town of Haven is located on has a Mediterranean climate. The side that Four Rivers is on has a humid subtropical climate. The center of the island, being mountainous, has four distinct seasons, each about the same length.

The town of Haven and it's surroundings have long hot dry summers and a cool damp winter with short transition periods between them. Most of the rain falls in the winter, with annual precipitation of ~500 mm (20 inches). Late and early summer storms do occur though. Temperatures in the range of 20-40 C (65 to 105F) occur in the summer, while they range from 10-25 (50 to 75 F) during the winter. An occasional dip to 5 C (40F) will happen in the dead of winter.

On the Four Rivers side of the island the temperature is more stable, ranging from 23 to 35 C (70 to 95F) in summer and 12 to 27 C (53 to 80F) in winter. Precipitation is year around, totaling 960 mm (38 inches) with the middle six weeks of summer being the dryest time of year.

The central mountainous region of the island can receive over 1500 mm (60 inches) of precipitation through the year in the form of rain, snow and fog. The rivers that the main towns are built on are fed by this abundant precipitation. Moving inland, the temperature drops as the altitude increases, reach subarctic conditions at altitude. Coniferous forests cover the inland mountains.
