I will start with a general description of the island to begin with.

The Isle of Haven is the southern most of a long chain of islands off the coast of the main continent of the planet Dominion. The island sits at 34 degrees south latitude. Haven is approximately 300 miles west from the shore of the mainland but the closest city of any size is Calvi, which 425 mile to the south. The next of the large islands is Monte, approximately 390 miles to the north, though there are smaller uninhabited island closer. Due to currents and wind direction it takes the sailing vessels of Dominion approximately 10 days to sail north from either Calvi to Haven or from Haven to Monte. The return trips only take two days or so.

The Isle of Haven is a volcanic island, having two long dormant volcanos, one in the eastern central mountains and the other on the west end of the island. The central volcano is a tall peak, over 1o thousand feet above sea level. The other is more modest at only 7000 ft. Because of their height, these mountains supply a steady supply of perspiration to keep the rivers of Haven flowing.

Being approximately 90 by 60 miles at the longest points, the island has nearly 4600 square miles of area, which about 2500 is suitable for human enterprises such as farming and forestry. The rest is either too steep, rocky or generally unusable. Actual acreage being tilled is 255 square miles, scattered around the island at different villages and towns.

The town of Haven, the capital, is on the north side of the island toward the western end. It is situated on a bay which has nearly 5 miles of shore by a mile in depth. There is a wide, gently sloping plain to the south of this bay, with two rivers flowing into the bay, one on either side of the bay. The river to the east is the Haven, the western one is the Twin. The land to the west rises steeply beyond the Twin, with near vertical cliffs as the shore line. To the east of the River Haven the land rises, though not as steeply as to the west. There are two deep inlets to the east then the shore line turns to beach lined forest.

Haven town sits on the west shore of the River Haven, covering about a mile of the shore of the bay. There are a pair of piers extending out in to the bay. One is used primarily by the fishermen of the town, the other is the commercial port of call. To the west of the fishing pier are the shipyards. The main road begins at the commercial pier. This road is lined with warehouses for a distance, giving way to commercial building until reaching the main square then continuing on to the south. Alleys come off the main road arcing around to rejoin the main road beyond the square. The is another main road running east/west at the town square. The eastern road crosses the river Haven continuing east to Ashford, a village 40 some mile to the east. The west road crosses the plain, bridges over the Twin then climbs the slope to the west to continue on around the west end of the island. The road south leads to the Palace of the Queen of Haven before continuing on through the forest to the south, ultimately leading to Four Rivers, the second largest town on the island.

The Palace sits on the rise that divides the drainages of the Haven and the Twin. A palisade wall surrounds actual palace, its support buildings and a small acreage of farm land. Outside of the palisade a dry moat has been dug with a drawbridge spanning the moat on the south side of the palisade, protecting the large gate. A road leaves the main road, climbs the ridge the Palace sits on, leading toward the drawbridge. The palace itself is a two storied building, appearing to be plastered stone with a red tile roof. There is a five story tower on the south side, between the palace and the wall. The area inside the gate is a large courtyard paved in cobblestone. There are several buildings surrounding the courtyard; the palace on the left, a large barn on the right and the stable straight ahead. The barn and stable are of post and beam construction, with daub and waddle walls above stone foundations.

The Palace consists of four parts; the old section, the new section, the tower and the garden.

The tower is the oldest part, three stories with a two story watch tower atop it. It contains the dungeons and the guard offices.

The old section was the original manor house built 200 years before by the first kings of Haven. It resembles a Roman Domus, a two stories of rooms surrounding a atrium.

The new section is twice the size of the old section, also two stories tall surrounding a courtyard. There are 8 suites in the new section, four on both the north and south sides with a parlor and dining room at the far end. The courtyard is a flower garden.

The garden is larger than the new section in both length and width. The last part to be built, it covers the north side of the new section and half of the the old. There is a large double doored gate on the east wall.
