《An Adventurer's Journal》Prelude – A human, a quickling, and a half-orc walk into a bar…

I am Simeon Devana, a human ranger passing through the Freelands, doing various tracking, scouting, and surveying jobs for whomever will pay. I found this journal on a dead adventurer. His valuable possessions had already been taken, but amongst what remained was this blank book. It is thick enough that he could have written a lifetime of accomplishments in it, but instead no one will even know what he did in life. Hopefully by the time my body is found this book will have stories of my accomplishments that are worth being told. I am not much of a writer, but maybe with practice I will get better.

A few days ago, a curious quickling named Zephyr decided to start following me. He is interesting enough but is constantly looking for entertainment and I suspect he will get bored of my lifestyle soon.

Zephyr apparently has now had his hard introduction to the wild outdoors. He ate some poisonous moonseed berries and promptly keeled over. Luckily we had passed a church not too long back and I was able to carry him there. A kind half-giant named Velon at the church was able to heal him. He and his fellow brothers also gave us food and a solid place to rest.

We did a job to track down a new Giant Badger den and report its location, but they noticed us and we, or rather I, got chased for a while. It was not until I swung over a river on a vine that they lost my scent. Zephyr did a good job making the most out of the situation and scouted the den while I ran. Now that we have their numbers and a cave layout, we might even get paid more.

Zephyr got bored and almost got us killed. He decided it would be a good idea to take a baby Giant Badger from the den as a pet since they were so cute. I started packing up camp when he told me, but the badgers found us first and chased him for a while. He got a little cut up and apparently tripped over a dead body while running. When he showed me, it turned out the half-orc was not dead. The man almost immediately came to and seemed aggressive at first, but he calmed down quickly. Turns out his clan messed him up something bad and left him for dead. We will be travelling together to Keatinstown and will probably part ways there.
