“So, Elijah tells me you were having visions of killing all of us” Lance stated casually “Let’s talk about that”

“What the hell?” Elijah questioned

Elijah turned in the passenger seat to look at Logan. The team leader was sitting in the backseat behind the driver, Josh. Logan didn’t look away from the window.

“You could see the visions?” Logan asked

“I got a look at some of them” Elijah said hesitantly “It was too foggy to make much detail but I worked out what was happening”

“The mask showed me those" Logan explained "A voice spoke to me, promising me power for killing all of you"

"So, there is a being in the mask” Lance nodded

“You knew that?” Josh asked

“I suspected” Lance corrected “It’s possible the being would be freed if the mask is destroyed”

“That’s why you stopped me from attacking the mask” Logan said, looking away from the window

“Partially” Lance admitted “Can you give me a more detailed telling of your experience?”

Logan gave more details of his experience, summarizing the massacre of the team and the various visions of promised power. He tried his best to recreate the conversation within the mask word for word.

“Last thing it said was that we should talk again soon” Logan finished.

A silence fell over the car as everyone considered what the dragonslayer had said.

“How much stronger have you become?” Lance asked after a moment

“It wasn’t a large jump” Logan stated “Noticeable but not life changing. Kinda like being enhanced by God, but slower and more focused on the genetic constraint”

“Have you entered the third stage?” Lance questioned

“No” Logan denied “I’m still far off from there”

“You got something for free though” Lance pointed out “Will everyone who puts on the mask get the same?”

“No one else can wear the mask” Logan declared “It’s not safe”

“If there's a way to power up some of the team we need to try” Lance argued “We can be careful with who we give it to”

“It's too dangerous!” Logan said, meeting Lance’s eyes “I could barely turn down the offer”

“What do you mean?” Lance asked

“During the vision,” Logan answered, his tone ashamed “I could feel how powerful I would become and I started questioning if I should do it or not”

“You were going to kill us?” Elijah accused

“If Robin hadn’t shown up I might’ve” Logan admitted “The power was so tempting at the moment.”

“Is it still tempting?” Lance asked

“No way” Logan said with a wave of his hand “ After the mask came off I couldn’t stand the thought”

“Would you put the mask back on?” Lance said

Logan hesitated before answering “No”

“The mask had some kind of effect on you” Lance surmised “It made you start to lose your reasoning”

“I think so” Logan agreed “Even without that kind of effect the power itself could tempt anyone. We can’t risk anyone else putting on the mask”

“Unfortunately I agree with you” Lance said disappointedly “This mask could turn even a newbie into a threat. Unless we can be sure they won’t turn on us no one else can wear the mask”

“Are we going to destroy it” Josh asked

“I don’t think we should” Lance answered “There is clearly some consciousness controlling the mask, if we destroy the mask we risk freeing it”

“We could take it” Logan said “God wouldn’t put us in an impossible situation”

“God will put us in a position for great losses” Lance countered “You and Matt are the only ones who are considered strong in this realm. Skye might be as well. The rest of us still have a lot of ground to cover before we’re on your levels. Anything this strong is likely to take some of us out”

“So Skye, Matt, and Logan can destroy the mask away from everyone” Elijah offered

“That’s too risky” Lance said “We can’t risk our three strongest members in one fight against an unknown enemy. Not to mention the three most experienced with this realm, it’s too much at stake”

“So we just sit around until someone puts on the mask and kills us” Elijah spat

“We can be very proactive in the coming days” Lance said calmly “we’ve learned a lot tonight”

“Yeah we learned there's some powered up freak on the loose” Elijah grumbled

“What’s the plan for tomorrow?” Josh asked

“Tomorrow we will split the team up further” Lance said “First though Logan and I need to have a better talk with Skye”

“I’ll also spar with her sometime tomorrow” Logan added “Get a better idea of how strong she is”

“Excellent,” Lance said, “Elijah, tomorrow I want you and at least one other veteran to start scanning the town. Marking on a map where each character from the movie lives, we will begin observing each in order to find any killers. We can’t assume there is only one other killer”

“Whatever” Elijah said dismissively “I’m not driving though”

“What will I be doing?” Josh asked

“I want you and Crystal to replace Matt on watch tomorrow” Logan said “Protecting Sidney is out biggest priority so keep watch but befriend her at the same time”

“We need to make sure she comes to us if she's scared” Lance added “anyone else in her life could literally stab her in the back”

“I’ll try,” Josh said with a shrug.

“What about Skye?” Elijah questioned

“I’m still not sure about her” Logan said

“She has things she’s not telling us but I don’t see her hiding any bad intentions” Lance said “Her smile when we ask her to help is genuine”

“Maybe she’s happy to be able to show her true self” Josh offered

“What do you mean?” Logan asked

“I’ve seen a lot of shows with teeangers who have superpowers” Josh said “They always feel lonely if they don’t have friends they can confide in. Couldn’t she be excited to show who she really is”

“That’s actually a good point” Lance noted “She has been nothing but helpful this movie, maybe she desires to be part of a group”

“I don’t think she wants to harm us but I’m not sure what she’d do to reach her goal” Logan said

“Skye should join Crystal and Josh after your spar” Lance stated “She’s a familiar face for Sidney and will be someplace we can monitor her”

“Yeah I agree” Logan nodded

“Which leaves you to accompany Elijah around town” Lance said cheerfully

“Why me?” Logan questioned

“Everyone else is busy” Lance explained “Louie will keep watch over the other newbies while Matt rests”

“What are you doing?” Logan asked

“Eve and I will be researching the mask” Lance answered

“Research it how?” Josh wondered

“We will start looking into any myths or local legends that have people who show signs of unlocking the genetic constraint” Lance said “If we can’t find anything local we will expand our search to nearburing areas”

“You think this mask is from this world’s mythology?” Logan asked

“Possibly” Lance said “I don’t believe God would simply drop a magical item into the hands of movie characters. There has to be more to it, legends are the best place to start”

“There shouldn't be any magic in this movie to begin with” Elijah complained

“Why did that change?” Logan wondered aloud “God will change movies to up the difficulty but I’ve never heard of a genre change like this”

“I have a theory” Lance stated “Do you think this entire planet is dedicated to this one franchise?”

“What do you mean?” Josh asked

“Isn’t that the whole point” Elijah butted in “We go into a new world for each movie”

“How do we know this is a new world though?” Lance continued “We have only seen this town. What if we are back in the Jeepers Creepers movie world? Or Harry Potter?”

“You think God combined movies?” Logan questioned

“It would make sense, its more energy efficient” Lance said “A single planet can host several movies that wouldn’t naturally interact. It would be up to God or us to connect them.

“So the mask is from another movie?” Josh asked

“I’ve never seen a movie that had a similar mask” Logan stated

“Neither have I,” Lance sighed “There are too many movies for us to see them all. It could be from a movie that wasn’t released in America”

“We’re a few minutes from the hotel” Josh announced

“At this point we just need to do research” Lance concluded “We’ll have a team meeting in the morning to review what we’ve discussed here”

“I’ll ask around if anyone knows any movies with masks” Josh offered

“Talk with Dale first” Lance suggested “He might know more obscure films”

Josh nodded and the car fell into silence as the car ride ended. Everyone pondered if they were really dealing with a crossover and if so what movie did the mask come from?
