《Terror Explored (a terror infinity fanfic)》Exchanging upgrades

“I’ll only take a couple flash bombs with me” Lance said, stoically “they should create enough of a distraction if the wizards prove hostile”
“Just make sure you stay alive for twenty four hours” Logan reminded the teen “doesn't matter where you are God will bring you back at that point”
Josh listened as Lance and Logan planned the teen’s trip back to the movie world, the jock didn't have much to add so he focused on bringing up his next exchanges.
Demigod Bloodline
Further changes the human body to further match children of the Norse God Thor. Boosts muscle density, reaction speed, and cell vitality. Slight boost to immunization. Divine beings will now recognize the relationship to Thor. Cost rank C reward and 1800 points
Mjolnir C rank upgrade
Upgrades Mjolnir descendent. Replaces more of the hammer’s material with original materials from Mjolnir. Hammer’s strength and durability is increased. Hammer will now recognize wielder and will return when called within 15 feet of wielder. Cost rank C reward and 3200 points
Josh didn’t see any reason to wait so he confirmed with God and was pulled into the air, his hammer floating beside him. Millions of light particles flowed from God into Josh. The teen could feel something happening as the particles were absorbed into him. There was no way to describe the feeling of his body, his very DNA changing. Unlocking his genetic constraint had made him much more sensitive to these changes, he could feel the entire process from beginning to end. Though he didn't know what was happening exactly.
After a minute Josh was lowered to the ground gently, a small clink could be heard as his hammer was lowered beside him. The first thing Josh did was check his divine energy and the teen gasped at what he felt. His energy pool had quadrupled in size. He let some of the energy flow through him, feeling his body reach its peak condition. He wasn’t using his energy as efficiently as he had in the unlocked mode but for the moment it didn't matter.
Suddenly Josh jumped backwards, just in time to dodge a punch from Logan. The leader had traveled the distance from Lance to Josh in an instant. The leader looked mildly impressed with the teen’s reaction.
“You’re growing fast” Logan said with a toothy grin
“Faster than you know” Josh replied with a smug grin. Raising his arm the teen called his hammer to him. The action was almost subconscious, Josh didn't know what he was doing until he was doing it. The hammer shakily rose off the ground and flew hilt first into Josh’s hand. Logan who was beside the hammer watched this in surprise.
“That could be a useful trick” Lance said approaching the two “you only got the two C rank upgrades correct?”
“That’s right,” Josh said, admiring his hammer. It’s appearance had not changed but it felt a little heavier.
“How does that leave you point wise?” Lance questioned,
“over 3000 points and a D rank reward remaining” Josh answered while giving his hammer a few practice swings.
“Excellent” Lance nodded and wrote something down on the small notebook he had in his hands.
“Are you ready to get your enhancements?” Logan asked the teen

“Once Eve gets back we will” Lance answered, looking at his watch.
As if she had heard her name, one of the doors opened and Eve stepped into the lobby. Behind her was Crystal and Matt who had gone to get the two after the meeting in his room. The trio quickly walked up to the other group under God.
“Good job getting Elijah on the team” Crystal complimented as she walked up, though her tone did not carry much enthusiasm.
“It was easy like i expected” Lance said with a shrug “he had already made up his mind by the time we came”
“He did?” Josh asked in shock “He didn't seem interested to me”
“That was clearly a show” Lance dismissed “He was just trying to get more out of us. He knew he’d have to join us to survive”
“If you say so,” Josh said, not completely convinced.
“Now that everyone is here let's get these exchanges over with” Logan said, his eyes alight with excitement.
Lance and Eve stepped forward, as did Matt.
“Let's do this quickly before Elijah comes out” Lance said quickly.
Josh frowned at this statement but quickly realized it made sense. Elijah would probably have something to say if he saw Logan giving out points to the other members.
Three beams of light shot out from God and pulled the waiting members into the air. Particles began to flow from God, streaming into the trio. Matt received nearly three times the amount Lance and Eve did. Josh watched this in silence, the process was oddly fascinating to watch but the jock took a moment to look up the exchanges that were being made.
Angel Viscount Bloodline
Further changes the human body to match angel physiology. Boosts mental capacity, immunization, and cell vitality. Slight boost to muscle density, reaction speed, and intelligence. Cost rank C reward and 1700 points. Requires Angel Baron bloodline.
Frost elf bloodline
Further changes the human body to match frost elf physiology. Boosts Reaction Speed, Cell Vitality, Immunization, Intelligence. Slight boost to Muscle Density, Mental Capacity. Cost C rank reward and 1900 points.
These were the exchanges being made for Lance and Eve respectively. Upgrades to their original exchanges, Josh assumed they would have similar growth to their energy pools like he did. Matt’s exchange was a bit different as it was a B rank exchange and thus took a bit longer.
Mamodo bloodline Adept
Changes the human body to further match a Mamodo’s physiology. Boosts Cell Vitality, Muscle Density, Reaction speed. Minor boost to Immunization, Intelligence, Mental Capacity. User will require physical contact with spell book to cast spells. User will develop a resistance to magic. Requires Journeyman bloodline. Costs Rank B Reward and 4000 points.
Josh was excited to hear how a B rank enhancement differed from a C rank. Apparently Logan also had a B rank enhancement with his dragonslayer magic. After a minute Lance and Eve were lowered to the ground. The two took a moment before moving. Checking their energy pools like Josh did, both seemed happy with the results.
“Everything look alright” Josh asked
“Better than I expected” Lance admitted “the C rank enhancement gives triple the energy than the D rank and stacked with it. My assumption was right”
“What assumption?” Logan asked
“The tiered exchanges hold great potential” Lance began “If my guess is right the more upgrades exchanges have the stronger they will be in the end. The energy and probably other benefits stack”
“So a B rank exchange that was upgraded from a D rank would be stronger than a regular B rank?” Josh questioned, he had seen plenty of exchanges that started at all ranks. There was even a God bloodline that was an S rank.
“I’m sure there are some exceptions” Lance admitted “but for the most part yes”
“So it’s a good thing we all have upgradeable exchanges then” Josh said with a laugh.
“It is” Lance agreed “we need to keep this in mind for the next batch of newbies”
This information didn’t do much for them now as Crystal made her exchange which did not upgrade and Elijah would be getting skills for his psyche force. However this would be invaluable in advising future newbies who made it past the first movie.
“Maybe I should find another enhancement,” Josh muttered to himself.
“Careful if you do” Logan warned “God says exchanging for another bloodline or mutation could lead to you losing your mind”
Josh nodded at the information but wasn't deterred. There were other kinds of exchanges he could make that weren’t bloodlines or mutations. Such as Qi or Chakra. Josh began to browse these exchanges until Matt came to the floor. His exchange took a total of five minutes.
“How was it?” Logan asked with a knowing grin
“Empowering” Matt said with a smile “My heart energy is more than twice what it was before”
“Did you get any new spells?” Lance asked, motioning to the book in Matt’s hand
“No” he shook his head “it doesn’t work like that”
“Figures” Lance let out a disappointed sigh
“Still the boosts to my stats were incredible” Matt pointed out “I’d say i’m twice as strong as i was before”
“That's good” Logan said “since you and Josh will be taking the lead in the next movie”
“Why us?” Josh asked
“You two just unlocked your constraints” the leader explained “you need to be exposed to danger to get used to it”
“That’s going to hurt isn't it?” Matt questioned with a grimace
“Oh yeah” Logan answered with a vicious smile.
At this moment a door opened and Elijah stepped into the lobby. He didn’t look pleased to see everyone already out but he came over without a complaint.
“You’re a little early” Lance said looking at the time
“I figured i’d take a look at the exchanges” Elijah explained “didn’t think you would be holding a meeting behind my back”
Lance let out a growl at the comment but Josh spoke before he could.
“Nothing like that is happening” Josh assured “we were just discussing Lance’s trip back to Harry Potter”
“You're going back to that freakshow of a world?” Elijah asked in surprise
“Have to see where we stand with the wizards” Lance explained “Also hoping to get some of the items we left behind”
“Don’t expect me to come with you” Elijah warned
“Don’t worry” Logan sneered “we weren't counting on you joining him”
“Good” Elijah said “Now since your here let’s get my exchanges going”
Logan's face began to grow red at the disrespectful tone.
“Maybe you should thank our leader first” Josh said tentatively
“Why?” Elijah snorted “he's getting more out of this deal than i am”
“You’re getting a chance to continue your miserable life” Logan countered “you should be more appreciative”
“My miserable life?” Elijah said in a mockingly offended tone “how did someone like you become a leader?”
“Unlike some of those nutjobs in the real world” Logan stepped towards Elijah “I was actually chosen by God to be a leader”
“You were?” Josh was surprised by this information.
“Yes” the leader began “when a team wipes, the next group of newbies has a person among them that is a guide from God. They will act like a normal person and assist the team until one or more members unlocked their genetic constraint. Then the next movie becomes a trial where a leader is chosen by the guide”
“Does it come with any perks?” Crystal spoke up, her curiosity piqued
“I can look through the exchanges faster” Logan explained “I also get information about other teams and the next movie”
“What do you know about the other teams?” Josh questioned
“Just the amount of unlocked members they have” Lance answered “except for teams Devil and Celestial”
“Devil and Celestial?” Crystal asked
“Those are two special teams in this dimension” Lance explained “All the other teams are made up of people pulled from around the world. Team Devil is made up of clones of people God acknowledged to have powerful potential. When a leader is chosen they are given a choice to stay with their team or join team Celestial.”
“So one team made up of clones from the best people in the realm” Lance summarized “and one team made of people who have passed the test to become a leader”
“Pretty much” Logan nodded “they are often considered the strongest teams in this realm”
“Interesting” Lance said “well for now let's make Elijah’s exchanges and then i’ll head back to Hogwarts”
The change in subject had calmed Logan down and Elijah seemed content with wordlessly receiving his exchange. The single ability exchange didn’t take as much time as a bloodline exchange, only taking a few seconds. Matt and Crystal stepped to the side with Elijah to start practicing his new ability. Logan and Josh waited with Lance and Eve to see the duo off on their journey.
“How long will you be gone for us?” Josh asked as Lance exchanged a few flash grenades.
“It will be just a second for us” Logan answered
“A whole day for us in a second” Lance mused “We could take advantage of this once we have a safe world to return to”
“Maybe” Logan didn't look convinced
“We’ll look into it,” Lance said with a wave of his hand.
“Be careful” Josh said as his stepbrother turned towards God
“I’m sure everything will be fine,” Lance said with his usual smirk. Without another word the teen motioned to God and disappeared.

The Yes-Mage
Plenty of people have stopped and asked what it'd be like to simply have everything, and Sylvain Henry Camille Johansson was no different. He was a man who had a lot of things going on, with a name that'd make a supervillain blush and a family who'd make even the useless of their rank into someone important. It was a shame, then, that he was slapped with a dreadfully unfortunate condition that kept him from living up to any of those already low expectations. Stuck living a life where magic is everywhere while he's left working with nothing more than a moderate intellect, a little bit of whatever influence he could get from his family, and a lifetime's practice at making himself the ideal subordinate for his bosses' boss, Vane was still beating the odds and slowly working his way up in the world. When the cunning yes-man finally got a chance to really make a name for himself, he leapt at the offer, taking his first real step onto a road he knew he was always meant to walk. His goal? Nothing less than finding out why he and too many other unfortunate souls are barred from the wonderful world of the higher energies, and with any luck, fixing it. Of course, life has a knack for interfering in even the humblest of plans, and Vane's lofty ideals were anything but humble; he was practically a walking bullseye for disaster. The funny thing about catastrophe, though, is that nobody can ever say what form it's going to take. That’s why, when it all went wrong for Vane, he'd gotten everything he'd ever wanted foisted onto him, and Everything else, too. Watch as a man so used to saying 'yes' to everyone above him finds himself stuck with the power to make reality itself say it back.
