《Terror Explored (a terror infinity fanfic)》Second wave of newbies

“Are you sure?” Logan was the first to respond.
The rest of the team were too shocked to think of anything to see. Josh in particular was stunned. He was beside Gwen and could clearly see the young man’s face. The more he looked the more he could see the resemblance with Ashley.
“He has the same last name” Gwen responded, looking at the screen only she could see “and he has psyche force potential”
That alone left little doubt that he was in fact Ashley’s twin. They weren’t sure what made someone able to use psyche force, but it would make sense that genetic makeup was a leading factor.
“Finish up checking on the other newbies” Logan ordered “then we’ll discuss what to do” Gwen nodded and continued her inspection. Eve followed closely behind, taking notes on what Gwen reported.
“What are we going to do?” Matt questioned
“I have no idea,” Logan admitted.
“What is there to debate” Lance interrupted “He’s going to have to be our team’s psyche force user”
“I know but,” Matt hesitated before he finished talking “the situation is just unheard of. Before you two we never had siblings and now there’s another pair. One of which already died”
“It’s an odd situation” Lance acknowledged “but he’s vital for our future survivability. We need to make sure he survives and grows”
“I know that!” Logan snapped at the teen “This just made things more complicated”
“Are we going to tell him about Ashley?” Josh asked suddenly. This question brought everyone to a halt.
“I don’t think we should” Lance quickly answered
“Why?” was all Josh asked
“We need him to be focused” Lance explained “we need him to focus on getting as many points in this movie as possible. Telling him about Ashley would be a distraction”
“He deserves to know the truth” Josh stopped his stepbrother with a glare
“We will tell him after the movie” Lance promised “Where he is safe to take time to grieve. A movie world is not the place to hear devastating news”
Josh looked down at the unconscious man, now he could clearly see the resemblance to Ashley. He had spent most of his free time in the past few days looking for him and now here he was. The whole point of finding him was to respect Ashley’s last wish and make sure he was set to live a happy life.
“Fine” Josh declared. Elijah coming into God’s dimension was not expected but at least Josh could continue his plan and keep him safe.
At this point Gwen and Eve had finished their inspection and returned to the team. Eve handed Lance the papers she had been taking notes on while Gwen stood next to Logan.
“What did you find” the leader asked
“Besides Elijah there’s no one else with special potentials” the gamer reported “though one girl had interesting stats” Gwen pointed at a dark skin girl with long braided black hair.
“What do you mean by interesting?” Logan probed
“Her mental capacity is higher than average” the gamer explained “the only times I’ve seen that is with psyche force users but my observe didn’t say she was meant to be a user”
“Psyche force is a type of energy, right?” Lance asked suddenly
“Yeah though it’s not the same as your faith energy or really any other kind of energy” Logan answered.
“Maybe she can use it in a different way than typical psyche force users” Lance theorized.
“Hmm maybe” Logan mused “we’ll keep an eye on her for now. Anyone else of interest?”

“No” Gwen shook her head then turned back to look at Elijah.
It was at this point the first newbie woke up which happened to be the young woman they had been discussing. She didn’t look to be over the age of twenty and had a slender build. Her brown eyes scanned the surroundings, taking a moment to look at each veteran standing in front of her. When she saw the unconscious bodies around her, she stood and backed away from the group.
“Who are you” she shouted out; her voice was strong despite her fearful actions “Where am I?”
“Welcome” Gwen took the initiative “I know this is very scary but if you give us a few minutes for everyone to wake up I’ll explain everything”
“Why should I wait?” she countered “Tell me where I am now!”
“Where you are is a very complicated answer” Gwen continued in a calm voice
“Well simplify it for me” the young woman demanded
“The simplest answer is that we’re at Hogwarts” Logan cut in and pointed behind the young woman. She turned and saw for the first time there was a large stone castle at the other end of the bridge.
“Hogwarts?” the woman was dazed at the sight “Like from Harry Potter?”
“Harry Potter!” a younger female voice cut in. Several more newbies had woken up at this point, including the youngest in the group. A girl of Indian descent who couldn’t be older than 15 had woken up and jumped up at the name. She looked at the castle with clear admiration, her focus roaming across as if she were noting all the small details.
“That’s Hogwarts!” she exclaimed. Her entire body began shaking as she looked at the ancient structure.
“Yes, it is” Gwen confirmed and then addressed the rest of the group “If everyone can stay calm, we will explain everything once everyone is awake”
At this point everyone had woken up and was moving except for Elijah. He was still fast asleep and didn’t look like he’d wake up any time soon. Lance went over and laid a hand on the sleeping man. His hand began to glow a soft white light that seemed to be flowing into Elijah. Suddenly he shot up and swiped at Lance.
“What the hell” Elijah shouted as he patted his chest.
“Just a little faith energy” Lance smirked “helps recovery speed and waking people up apparently”
“What the hell is going on?” Elijah cried out as he looked around him.
“Let me explain,” Gwen interrupted and began her explanation.
The news that one was sucked into a world where they would be constantly sent into horror movies wasn’t something most people would be happy to hear. Oddly enough this group of newbies had an individual who seemed ecstatic about it, or at least for this movie.
“So, this is really the world of Harry Potter?” the 15-year-old asked with a sequel.
“It is but this isn’t a field trip kid” Logan said, trying to get the girl’s attention.
“Yeah this place will be full of dangers specifically for us” Gwen added “You can see on your watch what mission we will have to complete”
This prompted another squeal “I get to destroy a horcrux with Harry”
The girl seemed besides herself with excitement. She was actually shaking and looking at the castle as if she wanted to run there that instance. She actually began walking forward when Lance’s papyrus wrapped around her waist and held her back.
“You may not be helping at all” the teen reprimanded “we don’t even know who you are”

“That’s right” Gwen picked up “why don’t you all introduce yourselves and we’ll start figuring out how you’ll fit in on the team”
This was something the team had planned before entering this movie. Aside from team battles they would work with all the newbies they had and treat them as members of the team.
“Let’s start with you,” Logan said and pointed to the young woman with the large mental capacity.
“My name is Crystal” she said, her voice was even but she made sure to stay away from everyone else.
“Occupation?” Gwen probed “or any interesting hobbies?”
“Oh, I have one!” the teen interrupted and started waving her hand as if she were in school.
“I’m in school to be a teacher” Crystal said glaring at the teen “I suppose I’ll let her takeover”
“Thanks” the teen replied, looking as if she didn’t notice the glare “My name is Claire and I’m a potion master”
“You’re a potion master?” Lance asked confused
“Yeah well maybe master isn’t the right title” Claire said with hesitation “You see I love harry potter and spent a lot of time learning about potion making”
“So, you’ve managed to make a potion before” Lance questioned
“Not a real magic potion” Claire admitted “but I have memorized every potion listed in the movies and books. I’ve also taken classes that cover older herbalism and alchemy techniques”
“So, if we got you the ingredients you could make potions” Lance asked for clarification
“Absolutely” Claire said with no uncertainty
“Hmm interesting” was Lance’s reply.
“Let’s move on then” Gwen interjected.
The rest of the newbies began to introduce themselves. Three were over the age of thirty, two were fast food workers but one was a botanist. The last to introduce himself was Elijah.
“My name is Elijah” he said, his face had a sour look since he woke up “and I’m not telling you shit about me”
“You’re not even telling us your occupation or anything” Gwen asked
Elijah snorted “I don’t have a job. I’m not some peasant who needs to work”
He shot a look of contempt at the other newbies before sending his glare at the veterans.
“So, you come from money?” Lance asked skeptically. Ashley had implied her family had been relatively poor.
“I make do” came Elijah’s gruff response “at least I did before my sister went missing”
“Your sister went missing” Gwen prodded
“Yeah” Elijah snorted again “just vanished one day. Cops have no idea where she went. Bunch of useless idiots”
The team fell silent for a moment, no one dared to look at Elijah. Not that he seemed to notice, he seemed to be having a mental rant about the police.
“Well good news is” Lance spoke up after a moment “you actually do have an especially useful skill”
“Of course, I do!” Elijah snapped back “I have plenty but how do you know that”
“I have an ability that lets me see a person’s potential” Gwen explained “with it I can see you have the potential to be a psyche force user”
“The hell is that?” Elijah demanded
“It’s similar to psychic powers you see in the x men movies” Logan described “you’ll allow our team to communicate mentally and create mental maps of the world around us”
“I could do that?” Elijah asked in disbelief
“Potentially” Gwen chimed in “You would be the backbone of our team”
A condescending smile crossed Elijah’s face “That is if you guys prove to me your worth working with”
A stunned silence followed his bold declaration. No one had even considered he wouldn’t want to work with the team. Logan let out a growl as the words began to set in.
“Elijah” Gwen stepped in before her leader could say anything “you should realize that working together is the only way to survive this world”
“Maybe” Elijah shrugged “but I wouldn’t want you guys slowing me down. Once I clear this movie, I’ll be more than capable of surviving on my own”
“Listen here you little brat” Logan snarled
“Wait” Lance interrupted and stepped between the two
“What do you want?” Elijah asked
“You said it yourself that you have to survive this movie first” Lance spoke quickly “work with us and we will guarantee your survival”
“How can you do that?” Elijah questioned doubtfully.
“We have a protective item” Lance explained “It will protect the holder from any attack. It’s yours for this movie”
“Let me see it,” Elijah demanded, holding out his hand. Matt had been holding onto one of the jade pendants Logan had purchased. This was considered one of the weakest magical defense items, but it would still protect against any common gun fire.
Elijah looked the pendent over and then slipped it on “Looks pretty pathetic. Did you guys go for the cheapest option?”
As soon as he stopped speaking a large clanging sound rung out, as if a gong had been rung. Logan stood before Elijah, his fist against a transparent green barrio that surrounded the young man.
“No but I’m wishing we had,” the leader said. Elijah looked terrified at the killing intent clear in the dragon slayer’s eyes.
“You can’t do that” Elijah sputtered out “you guys need me”
Logan grunted “We’ll see about that” and stepped away.
“Well” Gwen picked up “Now that you’ve seen the amulet works. Are you a part of the team?” Elijah glared at Logan’s back
“Yeah whatever” he harrumphed and then stepped to the side of the bridge away from everyone else.
“What about us?” Crystal spoke up “where’s our amulets?” The rest of the newbies nodded at her questions, though none dared to speak. Logan’s anger was still clear on the leader’s face.
“Those are very expensive” Gwen began to explain “we couldn’t afford to equip everyone with one”
“So, he gets one for noting” Crystal did not back down “How do you know none of us have anything to add to the team”
“It’s not that we think you won’t” Gwen continued trying to calm the young woman.
“No, you just think we’re not as valuable” the young woman interrupted
“That’s not it” Gwen tried to continue
“Shut up!” Logan shouted. A burst of power came from the dragonslayer and green energy covered his hands. The display of power caught all the newbies off guard. This more than anything else proved to them they were in another world, and someone unimaginably strong was pissed off.
“Until you survive a movie, you’re all worthless” Logan declared “the only way you’re surviving is by doing what I say and shutting your mouths. If you don’t like it, I’ll happily toss you off this bridge now and it won’t be a problem anymore”
His declaration was met with fear from all the newbies. One of the fast food workers actually began to cry in fear but she covered her mouth to keep her sobs quiet. Crystal didn’t look scared like the others, but she took a step back to signal she was no longer interested in fighting. Elijah had fallen to the ground when he saw Logan’s magic. He held tightly to the jade as if it were the one thing keeping him alive.
“I know it may seem unfair” Josh spoke up suddenly “but the fact is we have limited resources and are trying to keep ourselves alive as well. I promise you though that we will share all the other supplies we have with all of you”
“You expect us to just trust you” Crystal asked defensively
“I expect you to do what I did when I first came here” Josh clarified “I expect you to do whatever it takes to live”
Crystal locked eyes with the teen, his unflinching gaze showed his honesty.
“Fine” she said, “then let’s work together.”
“Thank you” Josh said and let out a relieved sigh. Seeing the newbies complying Logan stopped his magic.
“So, what do you want from us?” Crystal asked. She seemed to have effortlessly become the leader of the newbies.
“The mission is going to start soon” Matt pointed out
“Right” Lance nodded “When the movie starts follow us to the castle. We need to figure out when exactly in the movie we are before we can plan on what to do next”
“We aren’t at the beginning of the movie” Crystal asked
“We can’t be sure” Gwen informed the newbies “we could be at any point in the plot or even before or after the actual events of the movie”
“Harry destroys the horcrux” Claire piped in “So there’s no way we’re passed that point”
“True” Logan nodded “given this movie’s difficulty I doubt the plot would change to where Harry doesn’t destroy it”
“So, we’re most likely somewhere before Harry finds the chamber” Lance theorized.
Claire let out a gasp “Does that mean we get to fight with Harry? Oh, I always knew I’d make an amazing wizard”
“You know you can exchange to be a wizard in the lobby” Lance pointed out. The young teen froze then turned to the older boy.
“Are you serious?” she asked gravely
“Yup” Lance nodded “though it’s pretty expensive”
“I’ll pay it!” Claire shouted, “whatever it costs” Her eyes burned with determination. Josh smiled at the young girl’s spirit, he remembered when he was younger and had that much desire to join a fictional world. Though he had been younger than Claire was and now that he was actually experiencing it, he had a whole different feeling about it.
Motion at the edge of the bridge caught Josh’s attention, along with Logan and Matt. Two people were walking towards them from the castle. The first was a tall, thin, old man with an extraordinary long beard that came down to his waist. He was dressed in a purple robe and walked with a steady pace. Beside him was a tall older woman who wore dark green robes and a stereotypical witch’s hat.
This was Albus Dumbledore and Minerva McGonagall, the headmaster and deputy headmistress of Hogwarts. The two were calmly walking towards the group as if they knew who they were.
When they got close enough for everyone to make out who they were a loud squeal came from Claire. The young girl began running towards the pair in excitement but was stopped once again by Lance’s papyrus. Logan stepped forward with Gwen to the front of the group to meet them.
“Welcome to Hogwarts” Dumbledore greeted as he reached the group “We’re so happy to have your team here to investigate”
Suddenly information flooded into the mind of everyone on the team. This was their cover in this world. Everyone at Hogwarts would think they were a team of investigators there to look into the events that surrounded the opening of the chamber of secrets.
“Dumbledore!” Claire cried out trying to break free from Lance’s hold
“I see my reputation precedes me” the older wizard chuckled at the young girl’s antics.
“She’s a big fan” Logan said dismissively “We’re happy we could come and try to help out. We’ll do whatever we can to make sure Hogwarts is safe”
While they hadn’t planned for this precise scenario Lance had spoken with everyone on the team and made it clear that they needed to create a positive relationship with everyone they could in this movie.
“We truly hope you can” McGonagall spoke “though some of your team seem less than prepared for it” her critical eyes were focused on the few newbies who had been shocked at the sudden information in their heads. They still had befuddled looks on their faces.
“Some of them are new” Logan admitted “we need to break them in for our line of work. I guarantee they won’t be a problem for your student”
“Well make sure that they don’t” the professor stated “it’s enough with all this beast nonsense. It’s amazing any of my students can study at all”
“We have arranged a few rooms for you and your team to stay in” Dumbledore said kindly
“Thank you” Logan said appreciatively “We are incredibly grateful for that. For right now let’s go over everything that’s happened this year”
“Yes, we shall” Dumbledore nodded “but let’s move to my office where we can chat more comfortably. Your rooms are along the way”

The 8th Day
One day life is good. The next day it isn't! The boundaries between... well, whatever they're between.. have shattered! Monsters burst out from cracks in the universe, and reality suddenly begins to function similar to a game -- but not a game that anyone knows all the rules about! Magic is suddenly real, but so are monsters and death! Lots of death! And the worst part of it all? I think we did it to ourselves! We invented video games, and personally I think that great Finger-in-the-Sky picked up a console somewhere and started playing them. Since He liked what he saw, he must've declared, """"On the 8th Day, let there be Game!"But what do I know about it all, really. After all, I'm just """"The Witness"""" forced to observe it all.__________________________________________________________________________Author's Note: There's a lot of tales where characters get stuck in a Virtual Reality. """"Sword Art Online"""", """"Log Horizon"""", """"The Legendary Moonlight Sculptor"""". This is a story told with the premise inverted -- instead of a person from reality going into a virtual world, what would happen if the virtual world instead came to reality?I want this tale to speak about the aspects of the game, as it has affected the current reality, but the focus of the story should never be on the """"reality-turned-game"""" itself, but on the characters and their oh-so-human struggles, personalities, and attempt to adjust and live within the bounds of their new existence. Hopefully this won't just be a story of """"reality turned into a game"""", but instead will be something more meaningful such as a story of the strengths, perseverance, and humanity of man-kind as they try to adapt and face the unknown.*** And, most importantly, I hope everyone enjoys reading it as much as I've enjoyed writing it. ***WARNING: RATED MATURE M[18+] FOR GORE, SEX, VIOLENCE. The apocalypse isn't a pretty place to try to survive in, and neither is every scene in a story trying to describe it.
