V3 Chapter 40
Feeling strange, at the same time, anticipation, Rain reached out and pick up the book. But then moment his fingers touched the book, that book suddenly shone with crimson light.
The whole room was filled with a red light. It opened and chains started coming out of it, translucent chains that wound themselves in him in an instant.
He was very surprised. But before he could react, he was suddenly assaulted by that familiar sensation of being overwhelmed by a torrent of unfamiliar information suddenly appearing in his head.
Furthermore, it was so strong that it couldn’t be stopped.
Rain didn’t even have the time to react as his brain was stuffed with strange knowledge to the brim. On the other side, the book was still emitting a strong light, like there was still even more knowledge to be transmitted.
His mind, at this moment, seemed to understand countless of things, but also not comprehending them. He couldn’t grab the main knowledge and was unable to understand clearly the knowledge he had learned.
Now, he was in a situation where he seemed to understand, but not to understand, seemed clear but not too clear--such a confused state.
After a few moments in that state, that weird feeling disappeared. The pitch-black book in his hand changed into a normal yet out worldly looking book. The edges were colored gold and its cover was dyed with sky blue color.
In front of the cover was a crimson flames with a word: [The Chronicles of the Dark King].
[Congratulations! You have obtained [The Akashic Fragment]]
Such incredible sensation only lasted for a few minutes, however, but Rain felt it was longer than a year.
When he snapped out from it, he was completely confused.
What the heck is this?
Akashic Fragment?
“Rain is that book a Grimoire?!”
Lafetti asked in curiosity and interest mixed in.
“Grimoire?”
Lafetti nodded. “Hm, Grimoire refers to magical items and objects that contain knowledge about Magic. They are considered to be powerful tools with esoteric knowledge and powerful magic spells written in them. Although most contained one that can be considered Lost Magic, or even those Magic possesses only by Gods, there are also those Grimoires that records on how to create magical objects. Though it’s not uncommon, but it’s also extremely rare.”
“So this is very valuable…?”
“Of course, it is.”
Granite smiled wryly.
“It’s even more precious than magical items or Skill Tomes. A single one of them is considered a priceless magical item that every people in this world desired. Though, unfortunately, most Magical Item is like Spirit Items, they possess a soul fragment and that they chose their wielder. So even if one was lucky to find it, it would be like an ordinary book to those people who are not qualified to take it.”
“…I see…so this means, it acknowledged me as its owner?”
Rain grinned, realizing the fact that the Grimoire being now bounded to him is its sign of acknowledging him.
“Eh?”
But it being bound to him, came as a great surprise to Lafetti and the others. They look at the book and to Rain, feeling somewhat in disbelief.

Rain looked at the book, but then it started floating in front of him, and even without touching the book, the cover flip by itself as if it was swayed by the wind. Granite, Scarlet, and even Lafetti was quite surprised that the Grimoire responded.
One must know, just because you find a Grimoire, doesn’t mean it would acknowledge you as its master.
There were even times that it would curse those who take it instead.
However, at the same time, for some unknown reason, they somehow thought that this was natural as well since it was him- Rain Revert, who was the very personification or Miracle and Mystery.
Even if Rain said that he actually came from heaven, and just descended into the world, they would not be surprised and even believe him immediately.
“But what does it mean by the [Chronicles of the Dark King]? I thought its name was [The Akashic Fragment]? What kind of Grimoire is this?” Rain was bewildered.
The ‘Voice of the World’ had told him that the name of the Grimoire was the [The Akashic Library] but for some strange reason, the words written on the title page was [The Chronicles of the Dark King].
It’s like a title of a novel or something.
In fact, rather than a Grimoire, it looked more like a normal book right now.
“Is that so?” Lafetti curiously held the book, “But I can’t see anything…only white pages.” however, upon seeing that she cannot see anything on the page, and can't even flip one page, she lost interest and gave the book back to Rain.
Well, it’s not like she had not expected it. Only the chosen wielder could see and use their respective Grimoire. And to other people, it would just be another book…book with blank pages.
“But if it says [The Chronicles of the Dark King], then it must be it.”
“It’s like a title page of a story novel,”
Rain smiled wryly.
“It’s normal for a Grimoire to appear or sound mysterious,” Lafetti said. “… There are too many kinds of Grimoire out there. And besides, there are too many mysteries regarding them. Even the chosen wielders would need a long time to properly understand what their Grimoires could be, or do. Some, they would never be able to fully display its true power even until they died. That’s how grimoires are…”
Rain nodded his head as he listened to her. Then, he flipped the next page and was quite surprised at what he saw.
The next page was his portrait, and written on it was his name: [Rain Revert] in a mono cursive style. He flipped another page, and there he saw was his Physical Status; from his physical attributes to his skills, along with their respective levels all were listed.
When he flipped another page, however, he saw the portraits of Lafetti and the others. And this somewhat caught him off-guard.
What does this mean?
Rain stared at the page, somewhat confused.
Lafetti, Zarda, Stagna and almost all the Lamians he know were listed in there. In fact, not only them but also the Ant Queen. They were listed from top to bottom, being ranked by some kind of percentage beside them, where, for some reason, Lafetti ranked first, with a percentage of 100%, followed by Zarda who also has a perfect hundred percent mark beside her.

From then on, was Sarete with 95%, Miyabila, 92% and so on, and so forth.
What is this percentage for?
He wondered, but then suddenly he saw the words above them, and a hint of realization somewhat kicked in. His face stiffened and even the corner of his mouth twitched.
[Affection Rating]
O…kay?
Just these words alone made him immediately realized what it meant by affection rating.
Could it be the Grimoire had measured people’s affection or love for him, via percentage?
Now, that’s interesting. Then, the portraits faded one by one, until they were replaced by some kind of words—descriptions even.
[Affection Rating—the ability of the Grimoire to measure the feelings of women towards the wielder and convert it to values. 100% is the maximum, though, it was not accurate due to people who may have stronger feelings than one can measure it. After all, never forget my Master “A heart cannot be easily realizable like a game.”—Arch Grimoire]
Arch Grimoire? Akashic Fragment? But for what purpose does this have?
Rain thought, just a bit curious, actually. However, as if reading his mind or perhaps it did, new words began appearing from the blank pages of the book.
[A positivity level of around 30-40 means a relationship which is more than acquaintances, but less than friends. If the positivity level is over 60, you will obtain the passage to their hearts. As a result, you will be able to access the person's records- meaning you will be able to use basic spells and skills that a person possesses. 80-90% means lovers with the right passage to the soul, enabling you to have an access of most the records they had- powers, abilities, and skills.
In addition, the Grimoire also records the mental changes of the girls that the owner was with.
Anxiety, Worry, Love, Hate and many other emotions and feelings that the target party feels will be recorded in the Grimoire.
The images cannot be seen by others, of course. If you are able to monitor the changes in their mentality in real-time, then you will become sensitive towards the other person’s true feelings and know what you have to do to make them happy.
This way, no matter what kind of girl they are, you will be able to make them attracted to you and you will be able to conquer them easily, Master.]
No, no, no, wait, wait!! Could you please not just develop the story so quickly like that?! What kind of shitty Grimoire is this?
Rain’s face cramped.
Is this some kind of Harem King’s Grimoire or something? Aren’t you an Akashic Fragment?
[Akashic Fragment, is a Fragment of the Akashic Records; the Book of Life. I, the Fragment of Conquer, record the life of past, present, and future of my Owner and Wielder. And to do that, I shall go according to my Master’s nature.]
And you actually think that is my nature?!
The corner of his eyes twitched, somewhat ashamed, and absolutely annoyed.
What does it mean by it? Am I so frivolous that I would like to be surrounded by beauties? With no loyalty or devotion at all?
But then again, with Lafetti and Zarda, as well as his ambiguous relationship with Miyabila and Sarete…well, I think… I am… no, that’s not what I had intended!
[Positive. From the past reincarnations to the present, and to the future, and all that has been recorded in the Akashic Records have been analyzed to reach the current conclusion.]
Fine. Whatever. Anyway, are you saying you’re the fragment of the Akashic Records, one that is said to records everything, in the past, present and future?
Does it mean I can access those things?
[Negative. The Akashic Records is not for one to completely possess. I merely am a Fragment, hence, I can only access to several information and give support to the owner, in which to the degree I am allowed to. The Akashic records directly related to the Book of Fate, and hence, cannot be controlled by anyone, aside from the God of All Things.]
Then, what can you do aside from this?
[In accordance with the Book [The Chronicles of the Dark King] Chapter 1, I shall help and support the owner to build a kingdom, or an Empire if he ever wished to. Conquering the World would not be impossible either.]
That’s too vague…and besides, when did I say I wanted to conquer the world?!
Rain felt exasperated. The more he listens to the Grimoire's explanation, the more strange his expression becomes. Is this Grimoire trying to force him to walk the road to Kings?
[If the Owner wills it, I shall do everything I can to pave your path.]
No, I don’t need it. Give me something I can use with my current power.
[Affirmative. Aside from the Affection Rating setting, you are given the ability and resources necessary for your path to prominence such as setting up a base using the Kingdom Building Setting—though materials and resources are necessary to use this ability.
There’s also the Book of Spell, as any spell you had encountered, seen or attacked will be analyzed, process, and recorded. Rituals or Arrays are also included. In addition, the Grimoire reflected the owner’s skills, expertise, and masteries, hence, creating the section of Book of Crafting, where Alchemy and Item Crafting could be found. The Book of Familiar, which can let you tame or subordinate monsters, demi-humans, or humans to do your bidding. And lastly, the Book of Inventory. This feature gives the owner an unlimited space, where you can store objects and things, except living beings.]
“… …”
Rain’s jaw fell down.
What the hell is this insanely cheat he had just got?!

A (Not So) Simple Fetch Quest
Oh great hero! The evil Demon Lord has once again arisen to terrorise our lands, and we have summoned you to save our people! No, we don't want you to fight the demon lord! Of course not; we're the good guys! What sort of good guys kidnap people from other worlds and force them to take part in wars that have nothing to do with them? That would just be plain evil! We'd be no better than the demons! Katie, after her summoning by an excessively loud mage suddenly takes an unexpected twist, is sent off on a simple fetch quest, with a promise that she'll be back home in five minutes at most. She doesn't even need to leave the building. Alas, when a goddess' blessing causes her wish for an actual adventure to be taken rather more literally than she expected, she finds herself lost in a dark cave, far away from the sword she was supposed to acquire and far too close to a population of giant bugs. Still, at least she wished her life wasn't in any danger. Among other things. Be careful what you wish for. You might just get it. This is a dark litRPG adventure, both in terms of Katie accidentally wishing all the lights out, and also in that she loses as often as she wins, often with horrific and disturbing consequences. Luckily, Katie isn’t the sort of person to let a mere grizzly death or two get her down, and is prepared to try, try and try again to get her hands on the holy sword and finally complete her ‘simple’ fetch quest. Or perhaps—with a few resistance skills under her nightie—she might even come to enjoy losing. Not that she’d ever consider forgoing revenge, even if she did. I’ve ticked all the content warning checkboxes for this one. There’s no explicit sexual content, but there are enough references to justify the warning. Profanity happens rarely, but Katie isn’t averse to swearing when she gets particularly angry. As for gore/trauma, it doesn’t get much worse than the first few chapters, but there will be occasional chapters that have extra content warnings.

Paladin
When the first derelict alien spacecraft fell to Earth, humanity took what was found in it and propelled themselves to new heights. In their new Golden Age, humanity developed technology that they had only dreamed about. The following years saw hundreds more ships crash into the planet, spurring even greater technological leaps. An unassuming spacecraft, one of the dozens that fell yearly, descended on Siberia in 2021. The world took no particular notice of it. However, this one contained something beyond the miraculous technology that had made humans so prosperous. Three years later, in a top-secret underground facility in eastern Colorado, the automated construction of an army of Paladin Mobile Infantry Suits was underway. With this new, state-of-the-art weaponry, the military would turn the tide against the alien incursion that was consuming the planet. Humanity fell before that could happen. Sam was an engineer responsible for overseeing the facility. Now alone, he lives in utter boredom and near insanity, his only company the base’s pseudo AI and an army of empty Paladins. With the world gone to hell around him, and the things that caused it still living above, he decides that he is much better off staying exactly where he is. Unfortunately for him, that is no longer an option. This is the first novel I've written. The first fifteen or so chapters are going to be a little slower. I want there to be time to get to know the characters before they start blowing stuff up. Also, though the MC will be strong relative to the world, he won't be OP, and won't win every fight. Not every fight will be physical either. Currently, I'm aiming for something like 5 fairly short chapters a week, after the introduction part is done, but we'll see how that goes. Thanks for reading, and please let me know if I've made mistakes!
