Chapter 23- The Situation Escalates
Roen, Engil, and Tyor are currently walking through the path that the guards have so kindly made for them. Or to be more exact they felt like pigs being guided their slaughter. Roen especially didn't take kindly to being led by another, but for reasons unknown to Tyor and Engil he didn't make a comment.
They walked through the path lined by blank faced guards, and pillars filled with runes and hallways covered with mysterious lines. After walking for what seemed like hours they came across a doorway. Although not as big as the main entrance, it was equally as grand. It had intricate carvings of beasts and monsters that were almost about to jump out. Pure gold shined in some places and gold runic markings shined in others.
"Hey I have an idea! Why don't you blow up this place with your Soulmancer stuff?"
"I would if I could, but using souls to fight a creature that gets stronger with the sacrifices of souls is not the best idea."
"Point noted."
Engil was shaken by Roen's response and nervously looked around as if the walls would envelop him. Not caring about his servant's mental states, Roen stuck both his hands out and pushed open the majestic doors.
What greeted their sights was not a throne room nor a gorgeously decorated hallway. It was a dreary environment; pillars jutted out abruptly all over the place, a cold fog rolled around their ankles, and a glass pedestal stood in the middle of the chaotic scenery. Resting on it was an orb that contained a deep purple hue and appeared to be lightly pulsing.
Then a man walked out of one of the pillar shadows. He resembled a skeleton, and if it wasn't for the fear evident in his eyes he would've fit the role. He held two black spheres that shined brightly as if threatening to consume the man in their light.

"Please... Leave ..." The man spoke in a raspy tone that held a great sadness.
"Thanks for the reminder we were just leaving!" Engil spoke first and was about to sprint off, but Roen caught him by the back pack on his back. Roen's face held a trace of understanding and his darkened feature slowly softened.
"We have come to kill. Please rest and we will purge this curse."
"You... Can't... This monster... There is only more death... Please... Run." The man spoke in exhaustion. Desperation plagued his features and a slight fear was directed to the glass pedestal.
"You two get ready for a fight." Roen's tone had a hint of hurry and upon noticing this they hurriedly prepared for war. Engil tightly clamped his teeth around his sword as an azure aura wrapped around him. Tyor had already spawned several blood vine silhouettes of himself, and a sword and shield both composed of blood vines shout out of his armor and solidly formed into his hands. Roen's usual white robe had already morphed into a scale mail type of armor and two sets of bony wings covered in a blood red film shot out for the back. The white armor around his hand slowly inflated and turned into gauntlets that had groves running up and down it's exterior, and a red liquid flowed out of the scale mail and into the groves forming intricate patterns.
"Please..." The man's plea was cut short and the light from the two black spheres abruptly intensifying. The light engulfed the man and both the spheres and him disappeared.
Suddenly the previously motionless guards started to rush into the room, but not just the guards the citizens in the city started to rush toward the castle. A crescendo of feet started to sprint toward the capital. The entire population of Thaolos was condensing at the capital.

"Roen, I why are they acting like this."
"They are following the orders of that." Roen pointed toward the pulsating orb on the pedestal.
"And uh, what is that?"
"That is a sealed soul, and right now it's trying to use all the sacrifices to build it's body."
"And I assume that when it builds this body it'll be stronger?"
"You're on a roll with these correct guesses."
"It's a curse."
Engil sighed and looked around at the surrounding blank faced people. He began to gather his aura with the intention to kill as many as possible. Then a gauntlet came in front of him.
"Stop. Don't kill anyone, being this close will just make it easier for it to absorb the souls."
Roen's comment halted both Tyor and Engil's movements.
"What do we do then master?" Tyor asked the question that both he and Engil had on their minds.
"Destroy that orb before it gets a chance to regain it's body."
"Wait! Then why didn't we do that in the first place?!"
"Because I was unsure of what type of soul is sealed in there."
"So we know now?"
"To be honest I still don't know, but we don't have any better options now do we?"
Tyor was already heading toward the orb while Roen and Engil were talking, and they soon followed. There was already a 30 foot separation of Tyor and the orb, but the people being controlled by the orb started to bloat. Their features were twisting, breaking, and rebuilding into monsters. The once deathly quiet surroundings turned into a sea of inhuman roars and screeches.
The monsters in the room threw themselves at the trio.
"Roen! Can we kill them now!"
"Start the slaughter!"
""On it."" Roen's body tore into the surrounding monsters, Engil's sword flashed between the bodies of the monsters spraying blood and guts on the floor, and Tyor's vines speared themselves randomly impaling the monsters into a bloody garden. Then sealed soul on the pedestal pulsed faster as the three killed their way over to it.

I have a patreon account for those kind people that want to give me money. It also contains info for those who want to donate via paypal. The story was originally posted on fictionpress, back in 2011. When I reached chapter 91, I started uploading the story to RoyalRoad, one chapter per day. The story will continue to be updated on fictionpress as well as here, and can be reached by clicking on this link if somebody is interested, though at this point there is nothing there that isn't also on RoyalRoad. ********************************** The cover you see on the side has been made by a fellow RoyalRoad user Sydorow. 8 118Mud's Mission
The story begins with an elderly hermit mage living on the outskirts of a labyrinth town. Invoking spellwork that is trivial for a mage of his caliber, he creates a simple mud automaton to aid him in household chores. However, in the middle of his efforts, something goes wrong; his ancient heart finally fails. Now, half complete and with limited understanding of the world, an artificial being of mud stirs. Despite its limitations, it has a mission to fulfill. The last instructions of a dying creator. "Defend my home, and my possessions." To the mechanical mind of Mud, only absolute perfection is acceptable when fulfilling the orders of The Master. Mud will make sure nothing in the universe will ever threaten The Master's home! --- This fiction contains RPG elements such as skills and levels. The protagonist has an inhuman mind and acts on instincts and preferences that are completely different from those of a normal human, and may at times fly in the face of common sense. The general tone is lighthearted, but there are some scenes with disturbing content such as mind control and references to torture. Join our Discord to discuss the novel or chat with the author.
