《The modern day plague doctor》Chapter 1

Most of my life was spent in a hospital. My immune system was weaker than an average persons but it was a step above from me needing to be put in a plastic bubble or a air tight room. Originally I lived in a small town but when my adopted parents noticed I got sick 3 times a month they took me to a hospital who then took me to New York. Here they can make sure I can a have somewhat normal life. I still get sick a lot but with the doctors help they can make it so I don't croak from a fever. My adopted family had to stay in my home town but they made sure to visit me whenever they can. At first Kelly, my step sister, was devastated when she heard the news and kept coming to visit me.
I didn't go to school too often but when I did I enjoyed every bit of it. The doctors made me wear latex gloves when I went but it was a small sacrifice to pay. I loved learning all I could. I soon had a goal for myself. I wanted to become a doctor to cure myself and help others. I admit that the hospital I lived at influenced my decision. I didn't make many friends at school but that happens when you go to school for a week and a half every month. But I didn't mind as I got along with the staff pretty well. Everything was going great until beginning of senior year of high school.
Let's just say a incident happened and because of that I got really depressed and had one of the worst fevers of my life. Everything was leaking out of every hole and let's just say some things were leaking where they shouldn't have leaked. It didn't help that blood was mixed in and I was loopy headed the whole time. Then during all this it happened. The world went down the toilet. If you ask me where I was when the world ended then I would say I was on the top floor of the hospital behind a locked door in a full diaper with a bed pan full of vomit, blood and used tissues by my side. I was fighting a trifecta illness. Where 3 diseases were attacking at once. Or so the doctors told me.

Anyway I was fading in and out of reality for a while. Occasionally I would hear screaming but I thought that was a dream. It went on like that for a while until everything settled down. When I was finally able to get my bearings together it was already night. First thing I did was clean myself in the rooms bathroom. Afterwards I put on some clothes and went outside for dinner. In the hallway what I saw was blood stains and claw marks everywhere. So I did the most natural thing which was run back in my room, lock the door, and put whatever I could in front of it.
After cowering in the corner for a few minutes I began to analyze what I saw. My first conclusion was a psycho entered the building and started attacking people. But that doesn't explain the claw marks. Next would be a escaped wild animal but if that were the case then why is it so quiet. In an emergency patients are evacuated to safety. I ran through a few more scenarios but nothing made sense. I was confused and beginning to panic when something appeared in front of me.
DUE TO YOUR GREAT COMPATIBILITY WITH THE GOD OF PLAGUES YOU ARE GIVEN A NEW SKILL!
SKILL RECEIVED
CONJURE PLAGUE
THE ABILITY TO CONJURE ANY DISEASE OR PARASITE. CAN ONLY BE CONJURED WITHIN HOSTS BODY.
What am I looking at? It is simply a transparent screen. What the hell does compatibility with a plague God mean!? I stared at it for a while then ran a little test.
" CONJURE PLAGUE"
Nothing happened. I let loose a sigh. But when I sighed a dark grayish fog came out. It said I can summon a disease. The one I chose was the common cold. But is this it? Great so I can make clouds. When I touched it my body felt terrible. After this realization I then turned to the screen. This is like in a game. I tried some things after this thought.

March 16, 2021 - Hiatus note: I will come back to this story! I'm really struggling with it, though. It's been a number of years and I kind of forgot what the original outline was. I still remember the main path, but not any of the details, because I stupidly didn't write an outline. Progress is being made. I'd like a very decent sized buffer before I start posting again. Don't want to get hopes up only to immediately disappoint! ----- Amy Barnes, an aspiring chemical researcher, finds herself dying from cancer. One of her most desperate prayers is answered in a way that she'd never dreamed possible, and she finds herself living a new life as a dungeon. Warning: Violence, morbidity Cover: Taken from here, courtesy of www.pexels.com by photographer @tookapic. Author's Note: I've read some dungeon core stories on here, and they've tickled my fancy. I've thought up a whole story, start to finish, and thought it'd be a blast to put it into words. Other than the violent and morbid aspects, this story is suitable for children. Aside from the vocabulary, that is. I will avoid the temptation to have any cursing, sexuality, or gore. Excessive gore, I suppose - it is a dungeon story, after all. I’ll do a little research from time to time, but this story will not have a great deal of rigor. I’ve made Amy’s knowledge comparable to my own for that reason. There’s a few things she knows more about than I do, and a few things that she knows less about. Unlike me, she doesn’t have access to Google - it’s a non issue for her to be more knowledgeable than me, on occasion :P This story does not use the same magic system that I’ve used in either Sorcery in Boston or A Summoner’s Confession. This one is mostly intention based, and designed to be easier access for people who are more used to the idea of, “It’s magic, therefore it works” kind of thinking. Do note that Amy is, in most senses of the term, overpowered. This goes along with the usual dungeon core stories. She’s not more powerful than other dungeons per se, but she does have knowledge and intelligence that puts them to shame. I thought about doing this in a LitRPG style, but systems take balance, and I wanted this to be pure fun to write. This story was inspired from a few sources. Despite the title, it wasn’t really inspired by Of Mice and Men, though some of the themes match. Rather, I’ve taken inspiration from a few dungeon core novels on Royal Road Legends for the main idea. Many conventions of dungeon core stories have been perverted from the genre, however. I’ve taken my usual science-loving self to town to play around with the powers, and I can only hope you have half as much fun reading this as I have had writing it.

Gray's Crucible
“The value you have brought to trade is immense, more than a thousand fold what any other traveler to Crucible has ever produced. More than even I produced during my journey.” The old man paused for a moment here, seemingly reluctant to continue. After a few seconds he begins again with weariness creeping into his voice. “As the Messenger of Crucible I have received the value of your life. You shall be awarded a body with potential equaling the value you have brought to this place in accordance with the laws of the higher realms. Now you shall depart for Crucible, but first; I, Jaze, will give you some advice.” The old man, Jaze, he had named himself paused a time. Time enough that Gray began to wonder if he was still present, when he suddenly continued in a low and serious tone, “You will undoubtedly have great potential Gray of Earth, but it is still only potential. What could be is not necessarily what will be. If you step foolishly in my world, if you can not live up to the potential you have bartered for, Crucible will crush you mercilessly and tear away your very soul.” A thought, cheerful and light was heard from Gray before his presence was sent rocketing away like a shooting star. “I’m looking forward to it.”
