《World Game》Pursuit

Sam looked around and found the footprints of the second oger. Sam and the others followed them for 30 minutes until they arrived at a forest. But before they had left the battlefield Sam had picked up the big Roman shield the dead oger had used before.
They cautiously entered the forest and followed the trails. They saw slashmarks the greatsword had left in a couple of trees and smaller trees that had been totally shattered.
Sams group couldn't hear any loud noises like trampling or bellowing which alarmed them a lot.
' We must have slept quite long, otherwise we would hear at least some distinct sounds of fighting. Or Jack and Nissa have already killed it!' Sam thought while wandering through the forest.
The trails lead them north until they reached a clearing inside the forest.
A carriage lay on the side partially damaged. Sam slowly approached it and discovered a few bloody human bodies behind it. There were four corpses and an old man who was only a few moments away from taking his last breath.
Sam ran next to him and crouched down. He looked into the old mans eyes and said " Old man, we are pursuing an oger who chases our friends, were you attacked by the oger as well?"
The old man was very weak. A bloody wound on his chest constantly leaked blood but he still managed to answer " It smacked our carriage when it passed us and killed my family! I will warn you, the oger chases it towards the labyrinth dungeon in the north. This dungeon is where the ogers come from, most likely their settlement or something.
I told you everything I know about your friend, now do me a favor and kill me! I want to see my wife and kids again."
Sam nodded and pierced the heart which he could see pumping inside the open chest wound. Anna had searched the insides of the carriage and returned with a little bottle holding a red liquid inside.

" Sam I found this! Could this be a potion? I have never seen one before."
Sam took the bottle and answered " Red liquid is a health potion in most of the RPG's but we should let someone check it back in Blackstone City before we drink it.
More important right now is that Jack and Nissa will enter the dungeon at this rate. They won't survive a dungeon with only the two of them! Going back to Blackstone, getting supplies and return here would take at least four hours...we are all worn out as well! There must be another way.
Oh I totally forgot!"
Sam opened the guild menu. He found Jack, Nissa and also Kain still on the member list. He called Jack first.
" Jack! How are you doing? What's the situation?"
"Sam, good to hear you. We are still being chased by the oger. We cannot leave the trail because it would get us inside the bushes more easily. We don't have any more arrows and are totally fatigued. Wait! There is a cave in front, we should he save inside!"
Sam wanted to warn him that they had most likely reached the labyrinth dungeon but the signal was lost after Jack entered the dungeon.
" Damn they have entered the dungeon! We need to hurry! Let me call Kain." Sam said to the others.
After choosing Kains name in the list the call connected.
" Hey man, you made it back to Blackstone city? How is it looking over there?"
" Yeah I made it back, about 250 people survived the attack and made it to Blackstone as well! Only one woman and one man of Bobo's five man group remain, the rest were killed during the battle. Where are you? Do you need some help?"
" Actually, I need you to get some potions from the medicine store on the buisness street, as well as a bunch of arrows. After that you come to my position and we will enter the labyrinth dungeon!"

Sam gave Kain the direction they were in and ended the conversation afterwards.
He turned towards the three females behind him and said.
" I want you three to return to Blackstone to rest and defend the city. I will be sure to buy some more soldiers when I return, but right now I need at least a few powerful fighters to defend our city. You are the only three I have left to do that. Furthermore you won't be of much help inside the dungeon. You are all fatigued and need some good rest!"
Anna and Nina complained that he had fought before as well but Sam insisted on that point. He ended up promising the twins to take on an adventurer quest together after getting back.
Linda smiled and assured Sam that she would bring the twins back to the city. The females left five minutes later and Sam sat down to rest for a few moments. He started to walk towards the dungeon afterwards in a slow pace. Around two hours later he reached the dungeon entrance.
He saw an oger waiting in front of the entrance. Its eye was pieced by an arrow and some other arrows could be seen sticking out of its body.
' That's Jacks and Nissas opponent! Seems like he guards to make sure they won't come out. I have to wait for Kain to arrive. He is already Level 8, having another Level 10 fighter will be very helpful inside the dungeon!' Sam thought while observing the oger.
After another hour Kain arrived heavily breathing. He sat down next to Sam and tried to catch his breath. Sam gave him a few minutes and used this time to explain what had happened.
" I don't know if they are right behind the entrance and if we can leave immediately after entering but both Jack and Nissa are out of arrows. We have to help them!
We will kill this oger first, more precisely you will kill it and level up!"
The started to move after their conversation. Kain sneaked through the forest approaching the entrance from the left side while Sam simply walked directly towards the cave, not minding the oger standing in front of the entrance.
It spotted Sam and marched towards him. It actually limped because of the injuries. Sam started to run after putting his Roman shield to the ground. He only used his spiked shield and charged at its leg. He rolled to the side to evade a sword strike and stabbed the back of the ogers knee.
Sam didn't waste time and attacked the other knee as well. After stabbing it from the back too, the oger knelt down.
At this moment Kain jumped out of the bushes and swung his sword at the ogers right arm. Even though a big wound appeared on its arm, the oger punched out towards Sam.
Sam placed his shield in front of him, awaiting the punch. He flew backwards after the impact but landed on his feet this time.
The oger swung its sword clashing against Kains greatsword. With a loud *crack* Kains sword broke in half and he got slammed to the ground.
Before the oger could attack the downed Kain, Sam appeared in front of him continuously stabbing the arm holding the greatsword.
When Sam had stabbed around 15 times the sword fell down. Kain stood up and attacked again with his now shortened sword.
Kain decided to throw his damaged sword and hit the ogers throat. He swiftly picked up the ogers sword afterwards and attacked its uninjured eye.
He jumped forward and used all of his power to push the sword deep inside the ogers head. After he had inserted the sword around half of his length, the oger stopped moving and died.
Sam came over and slapped Kains shoulder.
" Nicely done! Let's rest for a second and then enter the dungeon!"

Rooms of the Desolate
Rooms of the Desolate is a collection of short stories designed to guide the reader through the many rooms and mysteries of the bleak and greyscale labyrinth of the Desolate. The first entry, "The Forever Tower" follows an unnamed wanderer climbing an endless, colourless tower; the only world they have ever known. As they slowly ascend alongside the masses, they consider the nature of their world and look to the corridors as temptation beckons. The second entry, "Production Line", follows an engineer in a boundless factory, who encounters a product that does not wish to bow to the overseers and makes them question their belief in the truth and duties they were made to believe. Content guidelines: Current entries do not include explicit profanity, but future entries may do so, hence the presence of that tag. Some entries do include gore and violence, though not currently to particularly extreme degrees. The Desolate is exactly that: a desolate world; as such, it is bleak, downtrodden, and may deal with mental struggles. Cover art credit: Adam Borkowski on Pexels.
