Sam was really surprised.
'This skill is interesting. The ways it can be used are innumerable. I'd like to see them using it.'
Nina and Anna were still looking at Sam with expectant eyes.
" Wow, this skill is awesome. Both of you got a really good class and skill!" Sam thought they were waiting for an answer.
The twins were unexpectedly happy with his answer and hugged his arms from both sides.
" Thank you, with this skill and class advancement, we will be more useful in the future!"
" You can depend on us more from now on!" Both of them said.
" Ok, let's talk about this later, the next zombie is coming." Sam proposed and got back into position to defend the breached wall.
The fighting continued for another two hours, before all of the zombies were killed. Only 50 of them died from arrows, while the rest was annihilated by Sam and the twins. The archers went out to retrieve the arrows after the surroundings were safe again.
Sam told the stonecutters and helpers to burn the corpses and to continue repairing afterwards. Sam himself went back to the blacksmith, who had moved into a house with a big forge on the ground floor.
When he entered the shop the smith was in the middle of putting his weapons and armors into the shelves.
" Hello there, we defeated the zombies, so I came to give you back the tower shield. Thanks a lot, it was a big help!"
The blacksmith looked deeply into Sams eyes " You can have it. I appreciate your help in defending this city and the villagers who live here. A lot of us would have died if you weren't there to defend the breach.
You were the one who helped us to find a new, safe home as well as the one who keeps on defending us.
We don't have a leader right now, but in my opinion, you should be the new king of this city! We need someone strong, who cares about the citizens and you seem to be this person.

If you need something in the future please let me know. If you bring me the materials I can forge you new armor or weapons when you need them!"
Sam answered " Hahaha, you think so? Well, I don't think we need a king right now but when the times for a king come we have a lot of suitable candidates to take this position."
Sam said good bye and left the store to do some other business.
Three days passed quickly without any more attacks, only a few refugees arrived from time to time.
Sam spoke with all of them to understand what was happening outside of the city walls.
Some told him that a massive horde of more than 1000 zombies had attacked their village. A few of them had noticed the attack early on and had been able to flee, while the rest had been trapped inside the villages wooden walls.
Another group of refugees had been attacked by orcs and goblins. These survivors had seen, how the orcs had killed and raped their families and friends.
Sam concluded after listening " It seems the monsters get more aggressive. I get the feeling all of this is planned by god.
These villages were like the beginner villages in most RPG's. The 'players' had a few days to reach them and build some relationships before the next catastrophe appeared. I bet that there are many different castles and cities throughout the world that have to be conquered, in order to live on.
What will be the next phase of this 'game' ?'
Two weeks after they had conquered the city, around 400 people lived inside the walls. A lot of refugees had arrived and after a few days integrated themselves.
Some of them resumed their jobs as carpenters, stonecutters or farmers, while others started to train as soldiers.
At one point, the newcomers asked about the leader of the city and while some called Rudolph or Carl the leader, most saw Sam as the real leader and commander of the city.
Sam organized a meeting for all the citizens on the 15th day, asking them for opinions regarding the city name. A big discussion started but ended quickly when Jack asked for Sams opinion.

" I like the name Blackstone City! The black stones make this city and the keep so eye catching I think this name suits this place the most."
The others agreed after a few more minutes of discussion. When Sam wanted to end the meeting Rudolph stepped forward.
" A lot of people keep asking who our leader is...I believe it is time for us to choose the one to lead us!"
They held a simple election, the nominees were Rudolph, Carl, Sam, Nissa and Linda.
Sam became the new leader with a big majority of the votes. Most people knew how strong he was and how much he had done for all of them.
After his election Sam quickly started to give some orders. He showed the stonecutters which buildings to repair next and organized hunting squads together with Jack and Nissa.
He met with Nina and Anna and gave them a mission to scout out the surrounding areas.
Linda trained three girls who seemed to have some talent in magic and could be the next potential mages of this city.
' We don't have enough 'players' that's why we have to train NPC's.
It would be awesome to gain a few more experienced players, but where do I find them?'
One player had joined them in the last days. He was 23 years old, 1,80 meters tall and had a athletic figure. His name was Kain and he had long hair in a ponytail and a big beard, covering the lower half of his face.He wielded a bastard sword.
Sam conversed with him more than with the others. That was because Sam didn't trust him and wanted to hear his story with as much details as possible.
The guy had lived in a village even before the Game started. On this day 95% of the villagers turned into zombies. He had been the only one to escape unscathed. After surviving in the forest for many days he had found Blackstone city.
Sam discussed with the other members of 'Nightwatch' and they agreed to add Kain into their guild.
Surprisingly Kain was already Level 5. His class was 'Wandering Swordsman' and his skill was an area attack, where he smashed his sword on the ground creating a shockwave, which would send the enemies flying.
Sam called his council, consisting of the remaining nominees from the election. He had enough of staying in the city. He distributed the work and told his council that he would leave for an exploration. He decided to take Kain with him to look at his abilities and get to know him better.
Before he left Sam stopped by the blacksmith. He had asked him to make a belt or something, so he could strap the tower shield onto his back. It was too inconvenient to hold the heavy shield all the time.
Sam and Kain met at the east gate and started their journey.
They traversed the forest, occasionally killing decaying zombies.
The first thing they saw when they left the forest was a lake and a few simple tents besides it. Around 20 small goblins were walking around the tents searching for something.
Sam and Kain sneaked through the high grass, silently approaching the little camp. They stopped around 20 meters away.
They could hear the goblins speaking, in English!!!
" These humans are dumb. Sleeping outside. Now they dead HAHAHA!"
"GAGAGAGA"
"HAHAHAHA"
They laughed with ugly, rough voices while chopping some human corpses into pieces. A big pot was placed on a fire, which was used to cook meat. Four human heads lay besides the fire, these were the people who fell victim to the goblins.
Kains breathing intensified and his eyes radiated a strong killing intent.
" Let us kill these fucking monsters! They keep on killing every human being they see, we have to stop this!"
" Yeah you are right but let's make a plan fi-" Sam said but Kain had already charged at the goblins with his drawn sword

8 154Sins of the Fathers (A Dungeon Story)
Extract from the histories of Hogenbach, written by the grand historian and self-proclaimed drunkard Gregor Meinzt. "Ah Hogenbach, a crumbling shithole of a kingdom situated in the arse end of nowhere. A land of rolling hills, cold winters and home to a population of short and bitter people. A terrible land. Yet it is here that the greatest calamity of the modern realm took place. It was here that the writhing dungeon was born. Some call Viktor Grieswald a hero, others curse the name. And yet fewer still know him for what he truly was. His was a sad existence, made to shoulder the burdens of an entire realm. He helped, he harmed and he left a trail of destruction in his wake, he will always be my friend. But know this, whatever your opinion on the man, nay the monster is, one thing is true. The world will never be the same after his presence, we made sure of that." AN: Alright, this is a dark fantasy dungeon story without the use of reincarnated characters or a system. Yes, I tagged it litRPG as it uses game elements, no these do not include a status screen. Read onwards if you dare.
