《Lord of The Heavenly Villa》51 - Seed of Darkness

The scythe was fast but not fast enough to exceed Acma’s reaction time. If there was anything to it, it only made Acma startled a bit. He quickly rotated his wrist and used his left hand to support the sword.
‘Ting ~’
The scythe was blocked but what happen a few second later shocked Acma greatly. The scythe turned into a mist and then disappeared.
Acma took a few seconds to process what he just saw.
The scythe was formed purely from the dark mist and it even solid enough to make a sound of metal when colliding with Acma’s sword.
Acma kept an eye on the lich, who began to move to the right as it tried to encircled Acma and attacked him from the side. Right now, the lich was close enough so Acma could faintly see a hooded figure about 2 metres tall. He couldn’t figure out the other details as it was enshrouded by the mist. It swung the scythe again.
‘Swooosh’
‘Ting ~’
Before the lich could reformed its weapon, Acma unleashed a wind blade and successfully cut its body into two.
“No way”, he exclaimed.
The lich was cut, but it took only two seconds to reform its body back like nothing happened at all.
Acma released multiple wind blades but the result was still the same. Each time its body was cut, it would return to its previous condition after two seconds.
Whenever it had a chance, the lich would summon waves of skeleton soldiers to distract Acma. However, those skeleton soldiers posed no threat to Acma as their level was too low. Even a simple flick of his finger could destroy their skull. So he focused all his attention at the lich.
“This is going nowhere”, thought Acma.
It’s already half an hour but the end was still nowhere close. All his attack were successfully cut the lich but it kept reforming itself and continued swinging the scythe to kill Acma.

However, Acma noticed that when the lich reforming its body, it would become paralyzed and all its movement were stopped. If he wanted to keep the lich stayed idle, it only mean that he needed to release the wind blades continuously every second or stroke physically with his sword but both of this were time and mana consuming.
Basically, he couldn’t kill the lich and it also couldn’t kill him. At least for now.
“Alice, how’s the battle outside?” asked Acma as he looked at the dark mist around him that have become thicker and thicker. If not because of the blue panel on top of the head of those undeads, for sure he wouldn’t know that they were around him.
“Half of the zombies were done but there still a lot of walking skeletons and they keep appearing”
“Can they breach the wall?”
“The chances are extremely low”
“Okay. Don’t let them”
“Yes, Master”
He couldn’t see the wall of stone guardians anymore. But he was aware of the distance between the wall and himself because he counted his steps. Unless the wall itself shifted its location, he won’t collide with the wall during the battle against the lich. He could control the battle up to this point also due to those wall preventing the zombies and the skeletons from interfering with his battle.
“Zombie, dark mist, lich and skeleton”, thought Acma as he step backward to avoid the scythe and crushed the skeleton behind him with his left elbow.
“Keep striking the lich will be useless in this mist. Lets reduce the mist first”
“Tier 1” “Black Hole”
The lich responded to the Black Hole with another high pitch screech. Erratically, it unleashed a continuous slash but Acma evaded them all and distancing himself.
“Now you can worry”, said Acma cynically.

Several Black Holes appeared in the sky above the field, one after another followed by a continuous ear piercing screech.
“Master, more zombies are gathering at this place”, Alice reported.
“They’re answering to the call of the lich”, thought Acma.
Thinking that he could finish all the undeads in one swoop tonight make him grinning with pleasure.
“Let them come”, he said.
“Yes, Master”
“How long do you need to destroy them all?”
“Approximately an hour and half”
“Okay, thanks Alice”
“You’re welcome, Master”
“An hour and half to destroy the zombies and another half to kill this lich”, said Acma to himself.
Two hour and 15 minutes later...
The lich was very much alive although it couldn’t summon many skeletons anymore. Its source of power have been robbed by the Black Hole spell and all the zombies were already destroyed. Its body had shrunk considerably. It also took a longer times to reformed its body or the scythe. However, maybe because it didn’t have any consciousness or intelligence, it didn’t run away and its pure instinct drove it to keep attacking Acma.
“Just die already”, Acma bellowed. He send a flurry of wind blades to exhaust the lich faster.
“Tier 1” “Black Hole”
Finally, the lich disappeared and the battle ended.

Level Up
Looking at the blue panel, Acma laughed. Although he only levelled up one level, killing the lich and its more than ten thousand minions really brought him a satisfaction because he had liberated the town from the undeads.
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. His stamina recovered bit by bit with every deep breath he took. It was refreshing.
“Open: Status”, he said.
Acma Heart Level 371 Race Human Class Emissary of Void HP 18950/19000 MP 183450/188625
Strength 1536 Agility 1305 Intelligence 2207 Luck 310 Unallocated point(s) 15 Title Lord of The Heavenly Villa, The Benevolent, The Grand Summoner, The Puppeteer
He closed the status panel and looked at surrounding. No more dark mist and he could see the glittering stars clearly. Then he took a glance at the place where the lich disappeared and immediately he was thrown into full alert. He felt something was wrong.
What he saw was a wisp of black flame floating at same place where the lich previously disappeared. It’s not the lich and he couldn’t identified it because no blue panel on top of it.
Suddenly, the black flame darted toward Acma’s forehead like a released arrow. Acma reacted instantly by swinging down his sword, hoping it would destroy the black flame. Unexpectedly, the black flame swiftly avoided the sword and kept moving toward Acma. Before he could activate the Phantom Step, the black flame already struck his forehead. Acma sensed a dreadful feeling from the black flame but he could do nothing to prevent it except moving his head backward.
Everything happened before he could blink his eyes.
But, when he refocused his eyes, he realised that the black flame was vibrating a few centimetres in front of his forehead like it was trying to free itself from something. Furthermore, it was shrinking and disappearing.
After a few seconds, its shape changed from a wisp of black flame to a black sphere at the size of a ping-pong ball.
The Lesser Lich Soul has been purified by the Blessing of Void into a Seed of Darkness.
Do you wish to integrate with a Seed of Darkness?
“...”
“What should I do?”, Acma muttered.

Ereborus
(I'm taking some time off to rewrite certain scenes and improve the quality of my writing. I'll restart updating the fiction once done it.) Update: at the moment, I don't feel like continuing this story. I'm working on another one in my free time, thus I don't know if I will ever come back to Ereborus. A mercenary has recently arrived at the festive city of Soldra in search of a job, but little do they know that a catastrophe will soon strike the city, causing multiple deaths. The mercenary is among the victims of the disaster. Or maybe not. They wake up again in a dilapidated Soldra where strange creatures now roam around freely. Will they survive in this post-catastrophic scenery and understand what really happened? Disclaimer/Trigger Warning: In future, there will be scenes with gore, graphic deaths and animal cruelty. Moreover, considering that the mc is a non-binary mercenary, cases of PTSD and misgendering may be included. If you are too sensitive to these topics, this story isn't for you. ━━━━━━━━━▲━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━▲━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━▲━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━▲━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Hello dear visitors!
