《Crows Feast》The Start

To be serious I was scared shitless. But also really excited, as I put on the "XG-34" the newest shit on the gaming market. It was a virtual gaming device developed by a group of brilliant neurology students that wanted to let people really life inside a new world. Obviously the idea wasn't new and as soon as the gaming industry got a gist of that they jumped on the chance and together they managed to develop just that.
The "XG34" is a wonder of the newest technique paired with neurology leading to a device that with the single sting of a needle will be able to transmit every little movement you do into the virtual world while at the same time cutting of your bodily functions on the outside world effectively leaving the vital organs intact.
´So you don't run around trying to cut down people with a sword you don't have.´
As you see I did my homework on the device as best as I could. Which every reasonable person would and should do. Just think about what could happen if the device had a malfunction. You could be disabled for the rest of your life or worse even die. So trough a lot of internet research I found out that there was never a single problem even in the test phase.
But nonetheless my hands were shaking as I put the helmet down again. I tried to make myself comfortable on my bed but was way to excited.
Me: "Ok. Taru. You can do it. Don't worry there was never a problem. Ever. The chance that you get the only dysfunctional device on the whole world is ridiculous."
I breathed In deeply mumbling the sentence to myself one more time.
I picked the device up again and carefully put the slim white colored futuristic looking thing onto my head in one swoop.
I was surrounded by darkness immediately and started to panic but shook my head to calm down. The device wasn't even turned on yet. I breathed in again and laid down In a comfortable position.

For a short moment I searched for the switch on the outside brushing over the smooth cold surface. I found it and without thinking of what would happen next switched it on.
There was a small buzzing sound and then a small pop up window appeared right before my eyes.
Welcome to Crows Feast. Please make yourself comfortable.
That's right. The "XG34" came with its own game. I did some research on the game but didn't find out much since it was overshadowed by the development of the "XG34" itself. The only thing I heard was that it was brutally difficult and that not even the designers think it can be beaten.
There were no alphas or betas for this game so everyone that bought the device today would start the game at the same time and with the same knowledge as me.
Not that I was someone that tried to be on top of everything or be the first one to have something but at least one time I had to try. I felt a little sting in my neck, the moment I laid my arm down.
And a second later I felt my consciousness slip away.
As I opened my eyes again I was in a white room that expanded into all directions. Right in front of my eyes hovering in mid air was another pop up window.
Welcome again. The game will start off at exactly 0:00 PM JST.
[24:46 Minutes Left]
While the timer went down steadily I tried to sit down calming myself once again. The Action seemed so surreal that I immediately went stiff. My Mind raced.
Taru: "OK. Calm Down. You knew this would be like it."
Although I said that my mind couldn't comprehend that it moved in a virtual world. It felt completely natural and I could feel everything like normal and yet what I was moving around wasn't my body but a bunch of pixels instead.
The Game will begin shortly. Please prepare yourself.
[0:59 min Left]
While I tried to understand what was going on and checked my body all over, the timer had went down to one minute and I got a notification. Calming myself, I thought about how many people would be just like me. Afraid of what would happen next.

New User. Please Select a Name and create an Avatar. You can only create one Avatar so pick carefully.
I was a bit surprised at this pop up window but this only showed that I wasn't familiar with MMO´s in general. Of course one would have to chose a name and create an avatar. This was a chance to escape real life and who would want to experience his new life with his old body. Right?
Taru: "I would!"
Before me was an pop up window were I could type in my name. It was a bit unusual to hit into a floating hologram keyboard but I was sure there would be more surprises from now on.
I quickly typed in "Taru" only to see the game process for a short moment before coming back with a buzzing sound.
This Name has already been selected. Chose another name for your Avatar.
I was stunned for a second. Then started to laugh.
Taru: "Hahahaha. Ok fine. I bet this will take some time."
I tired various other names. But all were denied since I only came up with simple and cool things. Like "Blood Hand" or "Shadow Wolf". And I knew the more time passed the lesser choices I got.
Taru: "Dang. This wont do. Come on Think Taru."
I tired a few more but all were denied and I slowly grew frustrated. But then a idea came to me. Hastily I typed in the name I was thinking of and after a second the game came back with a bing.
Do you chose the name "Chiame"YesNo
he name "Chiame" was Japanese and translated it meant "Blood Rain". I liked the name not only because it sounded cool and fitted the games name but also because I once read a manga with the same name.
I instantly pressed the [Yes] button and finally moved on to the character creation. Were I promptly meet my next problem.
While there was only the Human race to chose from the character that stood before me looked nothing like me.
He was two heads bigger then me ripped with muscles and probably weight over 200 pounds.
I expected the game to give me a exact copy of myself and then let me have fun with changing myself. But instead they couldn't be further away from me. Not even our hair colors matched.
And then Boom! To my side opened a giant pop up window with all my options to change.
And so I got to work. Completely throwing out the given character and trying to recreate a image of myself.
After twenty minutes or so I was finally done with creating something that at least resembled me.
The Avatar now was around 5,5 Feet tall weight in around 120 pounds had curly blond hair and sharp green eyes. I tired to recreate my face but since I had now mirror I think I messed up a bit and made myself more handsome then I really am. But I could forgive myself for that.
After I was finally done I pressed the button on the right lower corner of the Pop up window that said [End Creation] and with a flash of white light the game started.
