《Reality or Game》Side Chapter: Birth of the Final God

Kard grew up without anything of note. Her parents never expected anything out of her, and Kard never wanted to do anything. Like a puppet without will, she went with society’s flow. With neither purpose nor goal, Kard lived every day without second thought. The girl was apathetic to anything that could happen.
Even being brought to Reality did not change Kard, she simply joined the largest Party in Naut City and performed averagely as a Dark Ninja. Even when her Party Members died, she simply feigned sadness to go with the flow. The risk of death did not affect her since she did not fear death in the first place. While her name was famous as one of the few Players that figured out you could dual-wield as well as her overall cuteness, her skill did not even bring her in the contention of the title of Dark Jack.
Seven years after Kard came to Reality, Kard’s life began to change when she took the Quest to tutor the Mayor’s child in swordsmanship.
“You are Paul?” asked Kard to the boy.
The boy was the same age as him. He inherited the Mayor’s handsomeness but not his charisma. In fact, Paul looked exactly like his father except for the maturity.
“Yes. Will you be teacher from now on?” Paul greeted Kard with a smile.
“Yes.”
In truth, Kard did not give a damn to Paul. This was simply another Quest she took for money. Since it was a routine job, it was a reliable source of money.
Kard treated Paul without care. She simply did her job as teacher and thought Paul the basics of swordsmanship. Of course, she only used one of her swords during demonstrations to instruct better.
Paul showed that he inherited his father’s ability with a sword and quickly rose in abilities.
The day came when Paul first defeated Kard who was not giving her whole effort. In his excitement, Paul said, “With this, I can finally fight along with the Players.”
“No. You are a Character. You cannot participate in Dungeons. Even your father, who is the strongest Character in Reality currently, only matched up to Players without titles.”
Kard was quick to ruin Paul’s dreams, but Paul was not quick to give up. Paul began challenging Players for duels. By the time Kard noticed it, she would always watch Paul’s Duels. Somewhere in Kard’s unemotional heart, an interest sparked-- to see whether Paul could prove her wrong and fight on the same level as the top Players.
Paul lost Duel after Duel against the lesser Players of Naut City; however, with each loss, Paul inched closer and closer to victory. For the next six months, Paul’s chances of defeating Players grew and grew, and so did Kard’s interest in him. Watching Paul’s Duels and training had become the first ‘fun’ experience for Kard, but she was oblivious to the concept of fun and did not realize this.
The first fall of snow marked the most important day of Kard’s life.
“Teacher. Duel me. If I win, listen to what I will say.”
“Alright, show me what you can do.”
The old Kard would not have said that. Even if she did, it would merely be a lie to satisfy Paul, but deep inside, Kard had meant what she said.
The fight took over an hour with neither side with an advantage. In the end, Paul managed to squeak out a victory.
Kard thought to herself, “So my existence… was not meaningless at all…”
Kard did not have a purpose, did not care for a purpose, did not seek for a purpose, but the feeling of happiness that filled her as she had achieved something remained nonetheless. People were purpose-oriented creatures. Kard found a purpose despite not wanting it. As much as she tried to deny it, the feeling of satisfaction filled what she thought was her empty heart.

It was only then that Kard realized it. Her interest on Paul resulted in her desire to see someone break out of the flow—something she had never thought of.
“Congrats. So what did you want to say?” Despite changing in the inside, Kard’s tone remained monotonous and apathetic as always.
“Master… no Kard… Please be my girlfriend.”
“I’m a Player and you are a Character.”
Kard did not reject Paul. Instead, she gave him a reason to give up. This was also because of her interest in Paul. She wanted to see what he would do.
“I don’t care! The only issue in it is that Player’s will finish the game eventually and Players have endless lifespan. Those things do not matter to me! If Kard rejects me, then I’ll accept it. If Kard--”
“Enough…” Kard interrupted Paul’s words, “You’re feelings. I accept it.”
Kard’s concept of love was different. Because she had never truly loved anyone, including herself, Kard only defined love with a single statement: I didn’t want to see this person die.
Over the next months, Kard grew affectionate towards Paul. She enjoyed spending time with him. Whether eating, chatting, or getting spoiled, Kard continued giving affection to the one purpose she had.
Kard was called to a meeting with Eric, Paul’s father. For the first time, Kard did not dress in her common clothes, but instead wore frilly black attire complete with ribbons, a dress, stockings, and shoes that Paul bought for her.
“Are you going out with Paul?” asked Eric without warning.
“Yes.” replied Kard without hesitation.
“You understand the problems with that relationship?”
“Yes. But we have both chosen to pursue our relationship even with these problems.”
“I see. Then I have nothing more to say.”
“You’re not going to stop us?”
“No. If both of you accepted the problems, then I am in no position to refuse. In fact, I actually support you two disregarding the problems”
“Thank you Mayor Eric.”
“Please call me Father.”
“I’m sorry I have to refuse.” declined Kard with the slightest of smiles in her emotionless face.
“I guess it’s too early then.”
Six months since Paul and Kard went in a relationship, the war with the Goblins reached its peak.
Kard sat on the sofa in the Mayor’s house. Due to the war, Paul’s parents and sister, who was the future political head of the family, were not in the house. The servants all went home to their families as well due to the war.
“You’ll be in the group attacking the Goblin Fortress, right?”
“Yes. The Dark King will be leading the battle there while the Fire King will be leading the City defense.”
“Please be safe.”
“You too.”
Paul caressed Kard’s cheeks and brought his face closer towards Kard’s. Kard did not resist and closed eyes. Seeing this, Paul kissed Kard’s lips. They had kissed many times before, but to Paul, Kard’s lips tasted much sweeter than ever before.
Paul gently pushed Kard down and gently tapped Kard’s lackluster breasts. While small, a girl’s softness could still be felt from her breasts. After a few seconds, Kard sat up and said, “Let’s stop here for now.”
“Okay.” reluctantly said Paul.
“After the war, let’s get married. Once we do, you can have me as much as you want.” promised Kard, unwittingly raising a death flag.
The next day Kard left for the Goblin Fortress. As evening fell on the camp led by the Dark King, the Goblin forces aiming for Naut City came as well. News of the Player’s successful defense at the cost of many lives reached the camping Players; however, this news mattered not for Kard. All that went in her head was the message Eric sent him: Paul died. Eric had explained how he died, but Kard did not feel hatred towards his cause of death. The only emotion Kard could feel was her love for Paul.

Kard wept genuine tears for the first time in her life. As the others celebrated the successful defense, Kard mourned at the loss of a love one.
Kard thought she would have lost her purpose if Paul died, but the truth differed. Kard instead took upon herself all of Paul’s wishes. She would protect the world Paul loved and fight where Paul couldn’t.
The most important wish Kard took was Paul’s love for Kard. Even with her relationship with Paul, Kard never loved herself. Only now when she received Paul’s wishes did she learn to love herself—Only by inheriting Paul’s love for her.
In the middle of the night, Kard went to the exit of the camp.
“I probably shouldn’t have refused him then…” said Kard to the full moon in the sky smiling to herself.
Kard ran off alone to the Goblin Fortress. Her Party Members tried to stop her, but she was far into enemy territory for them to pursue. That night, the sky turned red.
Before dawn the next day, when the attacked was scheduled to begin, the five hundred Players led by the Dark King marched towards the Goblin Fortress.
The lower half of the gate had been sliced off. Branching out of it were corpses of Goblins of various ranks. In the Goblin Fortress, Goblins did not pixelize upon death like usual because as long as the Goblin Lord was alive, Goblins dying in the Fortress could be resurrected.
Mountains upon mountains of Goblin corpses greeted the Players entering the castle. The blood of the corpses painted the otherwise colorless walls of the Goblin Fortress. It was estimated that fifty thousand Goblins dwelled in the Fortress, and the estimates were proven accurate.
Passing through the seemingly dead Fortress, the Players made their way towards the throne room. The Players who knew of Kard’s departure the night before questioned whether she did all this by herself, but dismissed the thought due to the impossibility of the task.
The door to the throne room was closed but unlocked. As the Dark King and his Party opened the door, an unbelievable sight appeared before them.
Sitting atop the corpse of the five meter tall Goblin Lord was a girl who looked like Kard. While her facial feature were definitely Kard’s, her beauty far surpassed hers or any human for that matter. No one could point out what exactly differed, but the difference was near infinite. Human language lacked the words to describe her unparalleled beauty, for so rarely if ever had such a beauty graced mankind that a word to describe her was unneeded.
The girl looked back on the Dark King with an insane smile on her face. On her hand was the reward for winning the Goblin War: Levi’s Tail, a Divine Rarity Demonic Weapon.
Demonic Weapons had more powerful stats and effect than normal Weapons of the same Rarity but were harder to control and brought detrimental effects in battle to the user.
Kard leapt down the gigantic corpse and walked towards the Players. As she approached the Players, they confirmed that the girl was indeed Kard. The more intelligent people realized what changed. While Kard was always beautiful, her aura prevented people from realizing her true beauty. Her natural demeanor held back her unparalleled beauty in the minds of the people. Simply, she lacked the aura of someone beautiful. Now that she did have the aura, the contrast further amplified her beauty.
“I’ve defeated the Goblin Lord and ended the Goblin War. Don’t worry; you will all still receive the Fitts reward as promised. Of course, as the one who fought, I will take possession over Levi’s Tail.”
The Players were all satisfied with the outcome. They had completed one of the harder Events of Reality: The Goblin War. While they could still not believe that a girl soloed fifty-thousand Goblins, they celebrated nonetheless. All were happy… except one… the Dark King.
The Dark King also wielded two swords in battle. He was considered the strongest of the few Player’s that dual-wielded swords in Reality as a Dark Spell Blade. Currently, he owned a Divine Rarity Demonic Sword: Lucifer’s Fall and an Artifact Rarity Demonic Sword: Chaos Blade. He led the Players in the Goblin War to acquire this second Divine Rarity Demonic Sword, but Kard ruined his plans; however, all was not lost for him, he still had a way.
“Duel me with our Divine Rarity Demonic Swords in line!” challenged the Dark King.
“I was just about to challenge you as well.” replied Kard. Her emotions had mostly settled, and the insanity she acquired due to the massacre disappeared.
In front of five hundred Players, Kard Duelled the Dark King.
A Duel it was not. Before Kard, the Dark King could be likened to an infant accidently stumbling upon his father’s sword and swinging it. The Players watched in disbelief as not once did the Dark King come close to touching Kard’s Health.
Kard dragged out the Duel to allow the Dark King to use all his Abilities, but one after another, the abilities proved useless. Once the Dark King used up his repertoire of Abilities, Kard finished the Duel a handful of seconds.
Kard acquired Lucifer’s Fall as the Dark King lay on the ground on his defeat. As Kard walked away triumphant, a Teleportation Circle created by a high-level teleportation Ability illuminated from the ground. No Player in Reality did not know the symbol inscribed in the circle, for it belonged to the one of the greatest Players in Reality.
From the circle descended a goddess; one of the handful people whose beauty could not described by mere words. From a glance, it was obvious the girl was an albino. Her skin and hair were pure white, and her eyes were bloody red. Her nose was small but pointy, and her soft lips only had the slightest tinge of pink. Her pure white hair flowed two and half times as long as her height, which was by no means small since it was bordering six feet. The hair reached her knees, went back up, where it was held in placed by a golden hairpin, then flowed down again. On her head, she wore a silver tiara decorated with rubies. Her beauty was closer to that of an unreachable saint watching down from Heaven than a human. Her ample breasts and hips attracted the sights of all who look at her whether male or female. The girl’s presence radiated like a holy being. Her silk white gown that reached ever so closely but never touched the ground blended with the girl’s white skin. She was the greatest Support Player that graced Reality. She was Ghlit Raikhi Wail, the Light God of Divinity.
“As Leader predicted, someone would eventually take the last unseated throne of the Nine Elemental Gods. That day has come. Will you, Kard Miya Midil, join the Party Almighty and become the Dark God?” invited Ghlit with a divine voice that captivated all who heard it.
“If it will lessen the deaths in Reality, then I gladly join you.”
Kard left with Ghlit in a Teleportation Ability. The five hundred Players that witnessed her birth spread the story all across Reality.
Kard from then on always fought wearing the dress Paul gave her. Her arrival signaled death to the monster as her two blades of darkness felled the beasts with ease. Thus, legend of the Dark God of Depravity began.
