《Reality or Game》Chapter 4: Adventure Tutorial

Naut City had many alley ways that served as shortcuts to go to different places. The alley ways were dirty and polluted. Despite this, the paths were wide; however, monsters spawned in these alleyways. Naut City Alley Ways were considered a dungeon and separate areas from Naut City.
When I entered the dungeon, a map appeared in the lower left corner of my eye. The path was simply a straight line. Also, my weapons were automatically brought out… summoned would probably be the better term. On my back was the Basic Bow. The Basic Bow was, for the lack of a better description, basic. It was simple wood without any design. On my left hip was the Basic Sword, which was, once again, basic in design.
Finding no quiver or arrows, I decided to just pull the string of the bow. Like magic, an arrow automatically appeared out of thin air. Aiming at the wall, a target cursor appeared to help my shooting accuracy. I then unsheathed my sword with my right hand; this led to my bow being unsummoned followed by a message.
Bows are two-handed weapons and cannot be equipped with another weapon.
Sigh… I’ll admit I’m disappointed, but I persisted to find a way to find the best way to use both weapons. After a bit of experimentation, I finally did.
First, I unsheathed my sword. Second, the sword gets unsummoned when I summon my bow. I can then resummon the sword unsheathed, which also automatically unsummoned the bow. This made it very easy to toggle between the sword and bow.
My first monster encounter was against two monsters. They appeared around 5 meters in front of me with red icons above each of them was the name Sewer Rat. Red icons represented enemies.
Sewer Rats were dirty dark-brown rats the size of a cat. They moved more slowly due to their size compared to normal rats and looked significantly more threatening.

While slightly nervous, I was quite confident I could defeat them since this was the first monsters encountered, so I assumed they were weak, especially since death count reported wasn’t that high yet. I fired arrows at the Sewer Rats immediately as they ran towards me. I never practiced archery before; however, I landed more arrows than expected. Either the target cursor helped me or I had enhanced physical ability in Reality or a combination of the two. Unsurprisingly, the Arrows disappeared after they hit the target.
I could not see the health of the enemies, but whenever the monsters were below half, slowed movement and physical injuries began appearing on the monsters. The injuries appeared around the areas that were directly hit.
Was the game system assisting me? Probably. At least, that was how I felt when shooting. However, the feeling that I would improve if I had actual archery experience remained. It most probably was a combination of both.
I killed one of the Sewer Rats with six arrow hits before they reached me. It was basic knowledge to focus on killing one enemy first. After killing it, I received 3 Fitts.
When attacking, a Chain Gauge appeared in the lower right of my vision indicating how many attacks I hit consecutively.
When the remaining rat reached me, I dodged its bites with simple movement. Just like firing arrows, it felt as if the system helped me dodge. In contrast to firing arrows, dodging was something people are naturally born with, thus, their attacks were easily dodged by me.
Thankfully, I was quite a sporty girl in real life, more than most girls at least. I played semi-competitively with my family and friends. As I dodged the Sewer Rat’s attacks, I felt the same reflexes triggered as the reflexes in sports. I never expected to be this thankful of being active back then.

Attacking with the sword... was easier compare to attacking with the bow. I swung my sword as if I was swinging a badminton or tennis racket. I killed the Sewer Rat in four hits.
I finished the first battle without taking any damage. I received 6 Fitts from the second Sewer Rat.
I had quite a few more encounters with Sewer Rats.
On my second encounter against three rats, after I killed two, I was bitten and lost 7% of my Health. The attack also restarted my Chain Gauge. I hit the third rat twice before it hit me. I was caught off guard when it did not die after two more hits.
On my third encounter against three rats, I killed the first with arrows and killed the second in four hits with a sword without getting hit. I immediately continued to the third rat, which did not restart my Chain Gauge, and I killed the rat in three hits instead of two.
I have confirmed that the Chaining increases damage the higher it gets and carried over to different targets.
On my fourth encounter against one rat, I experimented with Fade Walk. The rat attacked and in the middle of its attack animation, I used Fade Walk. The attack still went through and damaged me. The Sewer Rat then stopped attacking and move around randomly. I ran for around ten meters and the Sewer Rat disappeared.
I learned that running a certain distance from enemies escapes the battle.
On my fifth encounter, I fought a new enemy the Bat, two of them. The Bat was a medium sized normal bat. It was flying around making it harder to hit, especially with arrows. After four arrows, the first Bat died. I was then attacked by the second bat for 5% of my Health. It soon fell after three hits from my sword.
I learned that Bats died faster and hit weaker than Sewer Rats; however, they evasiveness proved to be a problem.
On my sixth encounter gains two Sewer Rats and a Bat, I confirmed that they drop an average of 5 Fitts per monster.
On my seventh encounter against two rats, I resumed my experiments with Fade Walk. I touched one of Sewer Rats while they were moving around randomly due to my invisibility. The Sewer Rat I touched attacked me; the one further away did not react. After a few seconds, they stopped again.
I learned that physical contact temporarily allows the contacted creature to see me.
After a few more encounters, one of the Sewer Rats bit me, and I was afflicted with the Status Effect: Poison. While poisoned, I would lose 1% of my Health every 2 minutes. The poison damage and interval probably varied from its source.
The Poison damage was negligible because my natural Health regeneration outhealed it; however, it may prove to be a problem if I was getting hit a lot.
There were cases were using my sword with my left-hand would be beneficial, but the sword disappeared immediately when I tried.
I learned that I can only use my weapon on the equipped hand.
After around two hours, I exited the dungeon with 70% Health. Entering the town automatically healed the Poison. The dungeon probably only took a minute or so since it was a straight path if I just when straight through it. I just lingered for experiments. Also, there were probably other alley ways that were similar in. Also, I felt slightly stronger that I was before entering the dungeon. I was unsure whether this was a confidence thing or my stats actually increased.

Malheur aux vaincus - Short stories
I am a reader, not a writer. But in the spirit of contributing to the trove of texts present here, I hope to share some short stories that I wrote: two in French in a Roman Fantasy setting ; and the rest in English: one inspired by manichean webnovels, another one... difficult to classify as a fiction, a little flight of fancy about the 'What if?' game, and last even two poems.
