Chapter 16 – The Fight and Knowledge
After some time passed, strangely, nothing happened. I kept standing like that, waiting for something to occur. And that’s what it did. Information seeped into my mind explaining what I should do.
It seems that I should enter secluded training and completely fuse the orb with my soul to completely gain Vasos’ world’s authority. I was a little bit confused since they should already be fused, but it seems that they need some refining. If I had to compare them, it would be like adding salt to water. If you just pour salt into water, they won’t fuse together, you have to mix them to obtain salty water (Or whatever it is called)
My mission was done, so after ensuring Jack and Lucy’s safety, I decided to observe the fight between the demon and the old man.
I headed toward their direction and I was baffled. There, I saw a big blue colored bird attacking a snake. The snake was the same one as the demon’s. The shocking thing wasn’t that; it was that the snake was completely overpowering the bird. Every attack that it did was absorbed by the reptile.
The feathered creature seemed to have lightning surrounding its body, it was blue shiny one that matched its body color. I took a glimpse around the place and all I saw were craters. It seemed that the snake was bored with dodging the attacks and started absorbing them. I don’t know how it does that, but I’m sure that it has something to do with the demon. Speaking of the devil, I saw him waving at me from a distance and telling me to come sit beside him. I almost retorted ‘This isn’t a show!!’, but I held it in and went near him.
“Make sure to watch the fight closely. I’m sure that Phoenix didn’t even give you a fight. I’ll tell Damis to stop toying with it and make it show some of its moves. I’m sure that you will gain insights to manipulating lighting” Advised the demon.
I didn’t respond to him because I was focusing on the death match in front of me. It seemed that the snake which is called Damis, it seems, has stopped absorbing the attacks and started to dodge them and sometimes block them.
I appreciated every second of the fight, it was like a god-sent gift after all. I’m sure it is because a god just gifted it to me. Every move and attack that the bird did with its lighting were completely observed and analyzed by me. Now that I think about it, I wonder if I can use ‘Analyze’ on living creatures, I’m sure I can. Must focus, must focus. I’ll try it later.

It seemed that the snake was uninterested so it prepared to unleash a powerful attack, the bird also responded with using its ultimate move. The fight has reached its climax.
The lighting on the bird’s body suddenly changed its color into black. I immediately used my ‘Energy Eyes’ to inspect them. Hmmm, it seems that he condensed the ‘Lighting Energy’ in his body to the maximum, I wonder if I can do that, I’ll try it later. Also, I forgot to mention this, but only people on the level of the demon can manipulate energy of their surroundings, except for me, of course.
The bird then moved all the lighting and concentrated it in its claws, then it lunged at Damis, trying to rip him apart. However, its attempts were futile since the snake just opened its mouth and devoured it. I didn’t deactivate my vision, so I noticed that it absorbed the energy that sustained the attack, itself. It then disappeared inside its body. I wonder where did it go?
Now that the fight was over, the demon beside me stood up and with a wave of his hand, a list appeared on his hand. After that, he crossed off two names on it which I guessed were Vasos’s and the big bird’s.
After he did that, he flew to where the bird was and said to him. Of course I followed him.
“It’s over, Vlad. I was really surprised when I saw your name on the traitors’ list. I spent a fun time with you, but that’s that and this is this.”
“I don’t really blame you, Victor. You did your job; I won’t hold a grudge against you. I just have a question. What happened to Vasos? I really liked that kid”
Unexpectedly, the demon and Vlad seemed to have a good relationship. Vlad was now back to his human form and he looked extremely weak, I had a feeling that I could kill him with just a wave of my hand. I refrained from doing that, though.
I then recited my little fight (massacre) that I had with the Phoenix. Vlad seemed to be amazed that I killed his disciple easily, but strangely, he didn’t be aggressive or hold resentment toward me.
After I finished my story, Victor (the demon) raised his hand and a baleful red aura surrounded it. He then stabbed it into Vlad’s heart and took something out of it. Looking closely, it seemed to be the bird’s soul. I got a little bit greedy and looked at it with a ‘I want it’ look, but Victor refuted me.

“You won’t be able to absorb this even if I gave it to you, you won’t be able to contain its power.”
I didn’t say anything to rebut his words because I knew that he would only want the best for me (He tricked me sometimes, though)
After that, we went and regrouped with Jack and Lucy then went back. I asked him about the so-called expedition that he called us for, but it seemed that it was only a bluff that his organization did. I thought that if that was the case, it wouldn’t have been necessary to bring my two friends with me, but I didn’t say anything.
We returned to Victor’s room and then every one of us got out to do his thing. But, as I was about to get out, Victor called out to me and told me that he has something to say. I sat beside him and he started talking.
“Chris, I promised you that I would tell you about Zeus and my identities when you reach the Deity stage. I think that this is the right time to inform you of this. You’re only one step from breaking through, after all”
I tensed up from hearing his tone. I could deduce that he would be telling me something very important.
“As you heard, my name is Victor. I’m an elder in the Lostrov organization which originated from the Lostrov cosmos. We’ve been at war with the nearby Etrara cosmos. I cannot tell you the reason of the war, at least for now. I’m sure that you will get to know about it sooner or later in the future. All I can say which is common knowledge, is that a fight between Omni beings that ruled the cosmos broke out and it involved the 2 universes.” Said Victor in a very serious tone.
I felt overwhelmed with the new knowledge that I’ve gained. It seems that I’ve been involved in a very big battle. I’m starting to regret it now. I don’t know the scale of the contest, but since people who rule cosmos are fighting, I’m sure that it is a bloody one.
“I won’t tell you much about it now, since you will get to know about it when you visit it the next month, but you should breakthrough fast enough since you can only participate in the annual gathering tournament when you reach the Deity level. You also have to get used to your new gained powers when you advance. *Sigh*, so many things to do in a short amount of time.” Victor resumed talking.
I took note of the impatience in his voice, I wonder why he is like this. Maybe they are facing some kind of problem now and they need fighting power. I’m starting to smell the scent of trouble.
He then talked to me about the tournament, it seems that each year around this time, all the disciples of the masters there that have reached the Deity rank, will gather and exchange pointers with each other. It helps measure the strength of the disciples and how much they improved. Rewards will be distributed, too. I'm uninterested since I can buy almost anything from my Shop. Also, I’m not really looking forward to the fights since I know that I’m invincible between Deities. I asked what rank are the pair from before and he told me that the bird was one of the weakest masters and the Vasos was unexpectedly in the top ten of the disciples.
I asked him about how he could argue with him like that if he was that weak, but he told me that Vlad was a really amicable guy who was easy to approach. He always helped the younger generation and was never looked down upon.
I didn’t expect anything from this gathering because if I could defeat one of the top ten people without breaking a sweat, then no one there would be able to match me. I told him about my thoughts, but he told me that it is necessary for me to participate. I’m having a bad premonition again.
I then retreated to my room and began my cultivation.

AN ILLUSTRATED NOVEL • UPDATES TUESDAY AND FRIDAY In a time before living memory, the King Dragon of the Void watched the world and realized there was a crack. He realized that humanity was destroying the rock upon which they lived; they leaked life’s code into the churning chaos. At first the change was imperceptible: nanites overtook microorganisms, bacteria, viruses, amoebas. Insects became increasingly inorganic; birds and lizards followed soon after. Even humans were infected by their own advances, cell by cell, till there was not a person left on earth who wasn’t at least part synthetic, the product of a prior generation’s carelessness. The world’s population was ravaged by mechanical viruses with no vaccines; they were mercilessly overtaken by bacteria that knew no death. Soon, most of the planet was empty and only a handful remained who remembered the hedonist realm they came from; only a few were left who remembered what the world looked like when their buildings touched the sky. The King Dragon of the Void watched the rock turn. He watched humans cower as the Old World fell down around them; watched their great monuments crumble into dusty ruins; watched their codes become precious, ancient gem memories forged under the crushing pressure of so many fallen stones. The world has spun many times around the sun since chaos swallowed man whole. It is a simpler time than the one that died out, but the people now are not immune to the folly of the people before. There is old code everywhere: in the water, in the air, in the trees. The heart of man has been replaced by power cores, many of which are hard-coded with preternatural abilities—when they die, an esoteric mountain sect collects their cores and stores them in their hollow mountain home to preserve the sanctity and dignity of human death. They’ve learned to harness artifacts of the old world, gemstones full of codes their nanite infused bodies can parse as spells imbuing their users with great power; they inlay them into their bodies, into their skins, connected to their cores by copper conduit and gold tracers; they dress themselves in tattoos to advertise their prowess; they battle for relics in arenas, fight for them in the open world wherever they are found. The King Dragon of the Void watches the rock turn and wonders: when will this hunger finally make the rock stop spinning? WELCOME TO FANXING CITY … Twenty-five years ago, Fanxing City and the surrounding lands were commanded by the mad King Zao Beiguan. For many years, the King hoarded wealth, artifacts, food; he demanded tribute from a people already taxed to the edges of their existence and expected they be happy with their circumstances. Noncompliance was often punished harshly, bodies displayed proudly on Fanxing’s streets as a warning, from the city gates to the Zao palace’s golden doors. The youths of several prominent clans came together to overthrow the tyrant and made names for themselves as legendary heroes across the land: Tian, Ren, Feng, Gui, Ma, and Zhenxi. Even wanderers from the Luanshi sect descended from Yunji mountain to aid the rebellion. When the dust settled after three years, Tian Yunyong ascended the throne of Fanxing and swore to honour his slain father’s memory, and has maintained Fanxing’s peace with generosity and mercy where fear and cruelty once reigned.
