CH 30|| Trapped for how long?
After several minutes, the smoke finally cleared and the elf was completely unharmed. The dragon watched in shock as the small creatures entire body was covered in liquid rock and its flesh didn't melt. It simply smiled and once more broke out into a laughter.
"Kukukuku hahaha amazing, AMAZING!! the power coursing through me, what is this feeling, like nothing can obstruct me, like nothing can stand in my way ."
Draden looked at the dragon's twisted expression and in a loud shout he yelled.
"MY TURN !!"
As the dragon carefully watched the elf, once more the dragon inhaled a torrent of wind getting ready for another blast of dragon breath. Before the dragon could finish sucking in the wind, Draden vanished from the spot on the wall and reappeared directly in front of the dragon and like lightning struck out with his left fist. Hitting directly on the dragon's stomach.
*Bang*
As the fist collided with the dragons scales a small explosion occurred. Leaving a 10-foot crater in the dragon's stomach easily breaking thru those metallic like scales and with it the dragon choked on the wind and bellowed out a roar in anguish. With another lightning-fast strike, Draden pierced both of the dragons eyes with two consecutive punches, blinding the dragon immediately.
Once more the dragon roared in pain and at this moment the dragon knew this foe was too strong and although he didn't wish to admit it he knew that if he did not flee now he would die from this small creature. So the dragon dove directly into the lava at a speed that was easily 100's of mph.
"Fleeing from me, I don't think so."
Before the dragon fully entered the lava Draden with one arm latched onto the dragon's tail easily stopping the dragon from diving further in. He then torqued his body and using his metal like muscles pivoted his foot twisted his upper body and threw the dragon out of the volcano several hundreds of feet into the air.
The dragon was stunned, he had moved with such speed yet the elf had not only caught him but threw him far as well. What elf could do this, he being a dragon he weighed close to 80 tons even with 100 warriors of the 10th rank combined their strength would not be able to budge a dragon. The dragon using the momentum from the elf's throw as an opportunity immediately flew towards the south at high speed while trying to recover some mana so he could heal his eyes, but the mana would not come.
"Where the fuck do you think you're going dragon?"
And with one mighty leap Draden left the volcanic mountain top and landed directly on the dragons back. The dragon quickly tried some aerial maneuvers twisting turning flipping and diving, but to no avail could he shake Draden's grip. The dragon now blind became panicked and started flying wildly into the faces of nearby mountains and cliffs. Scrapping its back in desperation but nothing would work. This just made Draden enraged, he bellowed out.
"FALL!!"
And with his right hand he raised it above his head while the other hand kept its grip on the dragons back. In one clean motion, he swung his right fist down as though it were the hammer of a god.
*KABOOM CRACK BOOM!!*
The moment his hammer fist struck the draconic scaly back an explosion could be heard as well as the dragons spine being snapped and fractured into tiny pieces. Followed by the last boom which was the speed at which the dragons body sped up from being hit. A sonic boom could be heard because the dragons body fell faster than sound .

"BOOM!"
Like a meteor falling from the heavens the dragon with Draden on top struck the ground with such force that a crater 5 miles wide and 1 mile deep was made. Villages and cities within 1000 miles felt the ground tremor and a slight quake hit them causing some of the villages to be completely destroyed while others were a bit better off. As the dust finally settled Draden stood upon the dragon's body and looked down and laughed.
"Kukuku was this it? was that all you could do ?"
with a low roar barely audible the dragon spit up mouthfuls of blood. Somehow the beast was still alive, just barely, but still alive.
"Oh still breathing I see, well I can remedy that for you."
Draden leaped off the beast and walked directly in front of the dragons face and lifted a fist ready to deal the finishing blow when the dragon whimpered.
"Mercy!! ."
Draden leaned in with his hand upon his ear.
"What did you just say?"
"Mercy oh great one."
"Mercy, a dragon asks me for mercy, where is your draconic pride are you simply a coward?"
Draden once more raised his fist.
"Wait please don't kill me I beg of you."
"And why shouldn't I ?"
"Be... because, I know many things, my knowledge is vast and profound. I can tell you many secrets just please spare me."
"Hah, I can find knowledge anywhere, you only make certain your death, goodbye."
Once more Draden struck out.
"Wait, dimensional magic."
But before he landed a punch he quickly stopped at the dragon's words.
"Dimensional magic?"
"Yes yes, spare me and it's yours."
Draden thought and pondered for a while. Dimensional magic was a dragons trump card. If Draden had it then it wouldn't be hard to say nothing in the world could stop him and now that he was free after being trapped for so long he wanted to do any and all things he couldn't before.
Go anywhere and do anything, but he had no way of trusting this dragon. It had killed all of his friends and almost succeeded in killing him and he too had attacked it. How then could he trust that this dragon could keep his word?
"Your offer is tempting, but I cannot trust you."
"Wait a contract, we can form a contract."
Draden scoffed at that idea.
"Like a piece of paper could bind a dragon. You dare treat me a fool even while you're in this state."
"No no, not just any contract a soul contract. It is unbreakable even with a dragon's might, there is nothing in the world which can break it."
Draden had heard of a soul contract before, but he only knew that dragons used it. Every other species was too superstitious, they thought that all dragons were evil and that a soul contract was a work of evil gods, which if used would steal your soul and kill you.
Destroying your mortal body and imprisoning your soul in a fiery abyss for all of eternity, but Draden with his new found power felt as though he were invincible and he now feared nothing. He singlehandedly took down a dragon with ease what was there to fear. He readily agreed with a nod.
"There's just one thing, I need mana to perform this contract and for some reason I can't feel my mana anymore. After I used the last of it up earlier I haven't been able to generate any more of it, so I need to borrow a bit of yours."

Draden found nothing wrong with it. This made sense to him there was just one thing.
"I can give you the mana, but I warn you now, after I give it to you if you dare attack me or try to flee I will destroy you instantly, do I make myself clear?"
As he finished his words he shot a cold glance at the dragon causing the dragon to shiver. As the dragon did the broken back and other broken body parts screamed in pain from the shiver. The dragon once more spat up a mouthful of blood, he was almost dead now.
"Yes, just please, I'm dying."
Hearing confirmation Draden reached out with a palm and channeled some of his mana into the dragon. While at the same time healing the dragon, fixing the entire dragons body within seconds. The dragons face twisted in pain as its whole body was being repaired. Torn tendons broken bones ruptured flesh and cracked scales all were almost instantly fixed causing extreme amounts of pain.
Afterward, the dragon felt born anew and easily stood up. The dragon felt so good he almost wanted to flee, but seeing Draden's glare he quickly erased all thoughts of escape from his mind and began to chant the ancient contract. As the contract was in the process, Draden made his demand to learn dimensional magic while the dragon simply wished to be spared and like that the contract quickly ended. As the contract finished Draden could easily feel the piece of the dragons soul residing inside of him next to his and although it felt a bit weird to him the feeling quickly faded.
Draden wasted no time at all.
"Now teach me."
The dragon now completely healed for the first time actually saw Draden's appearance. He looked Draden up and down he finally clearly recognized the elf. He couldn't really do so before because of how fast the elf was moving and he was then blinded so there was no way of telling who was attacking him, but now that his face was only a few feet away and his eyes were healed the dragon knew immediately who it was.
"It's you, but how? I ate you nearly 20,000 years ago."
The dragon sucked in a cold breath, he couldn't believe this. Nothing in all of Gordonia could live for so long except a dragon and that was because they were nearly immortal. How could an elf that at most could live to be 1000 be here alive for 20x's that, it was not possible.
"20,000 years, I was trapped for that long ."
Draden hearing how long he was trapped couldn't help but think of his brother and his mom. There was no way either of them was still alive after all this time, his only family has died long ago. He wanted to cry so bad but no matter how sad he was nor how much grief he was filled with nothing would flow from his eyes. His body had stopped crying long ago.
He wanted to strike the dragon, but he had just completed his soul contract so instead he struck the ground. Causing the 5 mile wide 1-mile deep crater to explode out and expand. The dragon quickly flew up to avoid certain death and once more a quake occurred and the crater then became 10 15 20 miles wide and almost 6 miles deep. At the bottom of the crater, Draden just knelt down and sat for a long time.
Soon lava flowed into the crater from a nearby volcano that was damaged from Draden's blow, but still he continued to kneel. Wishing from the bottom of his heart that he could cry or at least feel something, anything. This new body brought him no pain, it seemed that the only thing that could damage it was Draden himself. As he continued to kneel the lava was already up to his waist, but still he was unmoving, kneeling there in thought.
Draden's POV
"Even this lava does nothing to me I can't even feel it at all. Just what have I become? beside's myself I have nothing, no one at all why, why me?"
As he sat there on his knees the lava had covered his entire body submerging even his head, but due to his body he did not drown nor melt or burn he no longer even needed to breath and even in the pool of lava his eyes were wide open staring into the molten rock just thinking.
The dragon watching all of this was shocked and deep down the dragon was glad he didn't continue to fight this monster. For sure if he continued he would have died. The dragon flew down and landed into the pool of lava taking up a huge amount of space. The dragon sat near Draden and asked.
"So when do you wish to learn my magic?"
"I don't care anymore just leave me ."
The dragon was confused.
"I cannot do that if I do not fulfill the agreement then my life is forfeit. You must learn my magic."
"I don't care anymore just cancel the contract and go."
"Didn't you hear me earlier a soul contract cannot be broken even by a dragon's might. You must learn my magic or I will be in breach of the contract and ill die."
"Maybe that's for the best hehe, you did kill my comrades."
The dragon looked at the elf full of disdain.
"Do you know why I killed them hmm?"
Draden looked up quizzically.
"I killed them because they invaded my home, it was there own doing."
"What!"
Draden raced over to the dragon in anger, quickly grabbing the dragon by the neck.
"Ah ah ah, if you kill me you die remember, that was the deal."
"So what, I have nothing anyway my family my comrades, even if I die I'll soon see them in the afterlife, I might as well join them quicker."
"True your people may be dead and i may have killed them but do you think they would want you dead as well and to say you have nothing then what is this monstrous body that is currently pressing on my neck look at yourself you have a dragon in a death grip what other being in the world can do that I don't know how you became so strong or how you have lived so long within my body but one things for sure you are the most powerful creature I have ever seen and for you to waste it like this a gift has fallen in your lap from the heavens and you throw it away how dare you fine kill me if you want and die as well but let me ask you this what is it that you truly desire ."
Hearing these words "what is it that you truly desire." Put Draden in a daze like state and that one word in the back of his mind echoed forth once more, thirst thirst thirst, but for the first time Draden actually realized its true meaning. His thirst manifested itself as a literal physical object, but in reality it was a thirst for one thing and one thing only, to fight.
Draden was a natural born warrior and he's fought all his life. He was at the 10th rank before he was trapped and he traveled the lands with his men adventuring, fighting, trying to get that next thrill that next rush to quench that thirst. What he truly thirsted for though was battle. To find that challenge, that would push him to the limit in every way possible.
Being stuck within that dragon he was dying to fight. Maybe that was another reason why he continued to train within the dragon. On a subconscious level, he continued to train so as to never lose his edge and so his body had transformed. It was the perfect conditions for an evolution to take place, the mana stone the training and the time all worked together to form this being of immense power known as Draden.
He snapped back to reality, it all made sense to him and for once his mouth was no longer dry and he had saliva within. The thirst was his mind and body screaming for him to fight. Draden's blood began to boil and his blood lust rose dramatically. For 20,000 years, he's wanted to fight and now that he was free he would. When he had fought the dragon earlier before, not once during that fight did the thirst come to mind and that's because he was actually fighting and so a bit of it was quenched in a sense.
This is what he wanted, no this is what he needed and so Draden released the dragons neck and jumped out of the crater. His mind was clear and his goal was set. He would fight the strongest in the lands and when he was done he would go find another challenge and fight some more to quench his boiling blood, but before he did the dragon flew next to him.
"So do you have your answer?"
"Kukuku I do, I will fight every dragon in all of Gordonia. I will fight them and I will win."
"I'm glad and what about my magic, if you learn it I'm sure none of them will be able to escape from you."
"I've been wondering this for a while now, but even though your a dragon you don't seem to like other dragons, what's with that?"
"Nothing we simply don't get along, they are even too prideful for me."
"Hmmm."
"Anyway, my magic so are you going to learn it?"
"If it can make me travel the land faster and challenge all the dragons sooner then ill definitely learn it Kukuku."
As Draden began to laugh towards the heavens he couldn't help but notice the dragon staring at him.
"Dragon, why have you been staring at me all this time?"
"Its nothing, I've just been a bit curious."
hearing this Draden to was curious. He assumed the dragon was talking about his name since neither of them has given theirs out.
"If it's about my name I am called Draden and yours is?"
"Oh, I am known as Brawn, but no that's not what I was curious about ."
"Hmmm, then why have you been staring at me this whole time?"
"Well, its just that I've lived a long life and never have I seen one of you elf's do battle while naked."
"What!"
For the first time, Draden realized that he was naked. He had lost his clothes a long long time ago while inside the acid, the very first day he was eaten, but since he was alone and in pitch blackness he never even thought about clothes. A small blush appeared on his face and he couldn't help but laugh even wilder.
"Kukuku hahaha."
The dragon seeing him blush simply thought. "If it makes him blush then why does he stand there naked and still laugh. He's not even trying to cover himself up. How long do I have to be with this fool."

Fateless: The Silver Lining
It has been ten years of peace for the Union since the end of the great war with the eastern barbarian tribes, yet in the cold north of the Union's land, a new threat is looming. This time, an ambitious Lord is seeking to restore the yore pride of his kin, forcing the weakened Union into yet another unwanted war, as he ramps up the ranks of his army with thieves, murderers and mercenaries.* * *The temperature inside the forge was nearly twice as high as the one outside. A black-haired girl hammered a steel ingot into the shape of a blade. The heat of the steam was draining her stamina away, but her focus remained sharp as her sweat streamed down her face. Hit after hit, for hours, the sound of the hammering steel followed the rhythm of her breathing. Exhausted, she placed the blade into the water and wiped the sweat off her face using a drenched rag. Why are they screaming? Vatra dipped the rag back in the water, twisted it, and approached the window. Her mouth opened as her world shattered again into the living nightmare she had wilfully tried to forget. She bit her lips; it wasn’t a dream. The pulse of her heart rose. A cold sweat prickled her back. A mother was running, and a child was screaming. A torrent of smoke was emerging from the roof of her neighbour. Vatra’s eyes blinked. The mother lay on the ground, a spear through her back. A torch circled in the air and landed on the roof of her workshop. In the distance, a man wearing a banner well known to the world… Fateless is a philosophical medieval dark low fantasy centered on war, militaristic campaigns and geopolitical conflicts between multiple empires. This story follows the fate of Vatra, a former slave from the eastern Nar Empire who was raised in a culture far away from her own, forced into warfare against her will, and the fate of Lanaya, an ambitious half-angel exiled from her home whose existence is seen as heresy. As they wished for peace, both chose a path opposed to one another until their fate crossed. In this story where war dictates the law, love strikes them as a poisoned balm to which they grasp for with all their might, as it is in the darkest of times that the smallest flames may burn the brightest. * * * Tome 1 already completed and available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.ca/Fateless-Silver-Hugo-Emmanuel-Simard-Wallot/dp/B09LGSH1KK Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Hugo-Emmanuel-Simard-Wallot-100547579135891/ I will publish 1 chapter per week (sometimes 2 if the chapters are too short for my liking).

[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Inspired heavily by The Wandering Inn and Beware of the Chicken, as well as cultivation novels in general, this story hopes to take a Westernish approach to the standard Cultivation approach, being more subtle and changing how it approaches the standard tropes of the genre, without abandoning them entirely.
