《The Lost Archon》Chapter 0010

"Terrence," Sera looks at the slightly-bleeding corpse of the wyvern. "You've only been gone for a day. Even with the help of an [Archon], how did you manage to kill a wyvern? I'm fairly certain the [Archon] would have needed assistance to kill the wyvern, even during the Slip."
Every branch of the Adventurer's Guild run by the kingdom consists of a three-story building with a large yard all around it and an eight-foot wall surrounding the property. The gate at the front of the property is approximately twelve feet wide… and I still had to move the [Air Barrier] carrying our loot up over the wall because the wyvern was too big.
Moving the [Air Barrier] so much drained me a lot more than I expected. Minor shifts is one thing, but a massive movement like this, taking the [Air Barrier] with me over several miles? That was draining as heck. I really hope they tell me what to do with the wyvern soon, too, because I'm starting to run low on Mana.
This front yard really is huge, and I think it's for a place to put bigger catches or harvests, such as an entire wyvern's corpse. They probably don't expect said loot to be as big as a wyvern, though. More than likely, they expect it to be small enough to fit through the gates, but possibly multiple items.
The fact that we brought in a wyvern has caused a huge portion of the town to come and check it out. Quite the sizable crowd has assembled on the lawn, with about a ten-foot space around the wyvern nearly empty.
Only Terrence, Sera, a few members of the guild, and me are within that range. Everyone who's come here looks rather impressed.
"Okay," Terrence says. "First, Reid, you can set down the loot despite it lacking the hide, the stones here wash easy and have already been cleaned by some of the people while you were busy watching the crowd assemble. They used their magic to do it."
"Alright," I set it down the wyvern and our loot – except the daggers, which Terrence has equipped on his belt already.
"Second," Terrence tells Sera. "We didn't set out to kill a wyvern. We were killing some Slip-strengthened air lizards to get some Levels. When we were preparing to return to Silvia's place, the wyvern attacked us."
Terrence stands their, tail swishing from side to side, as he waits for a response.
"Terrence," Sera says. "That doesn't explain how you killed a wyvern, and the fact that the amulets are in pairs means both of you contributed to the kill."
The daggers aren't visible right now, since Terrence still has his tunic tied around his waist. The daggers are concealed by the sleeves.
"We were blessed by a mysterious god, who brought both of us up to 2,500 in each," Terrence tells her. "And I mean 'mysterious'. He sounded like a kid, and his name is just a trio of question marks. When I try accessing information about him in the System, I'm met with an odd message. It won't tell me his name, says his type is redacted, and the only information it gives is 'A mysterious being of immense power', and nothing else."
Accessing information? About the gods?
As soon as I try, I figure out how to look up information about gods. The one for the being who blessed us is certainly odd, for sure. It actually gives me information. I read through it while Terrence and Sera talk about this mysterious being.
??? Type: [Redacted] A being of immense power who predates the gods of Yggril. Despite this age, he is quite young for his species. Still in his childhood years, he is prone to the worries and fears that come with them, along with apologies for things beyond his control. Rare is the day he reveals his existence to mortals, but often is the day he watches over them. The gods look at him with both fear and worship, and at the same time, view him as a vulnerable little brother and as a stern father. [Blessing of ???] [Gift of Life] [Gift of Words] [Gift of Growth]
I'm going to make an assumption and say that the descriptions normally give information like that about the gods. Well, the gods and whatever that kid is, since he's clearly not a god. If he were, I'm sure it would have actually said that.
The being who gave us his Blessing is a child by his own species's standard, despite being older than the gods? Just what is he, and who? He must be more than just a being of immense power if the gods both fear him and worship him.
Then there's the fact that this info box is listing the Blessing and three Gifts. What do those do? I decide to see what the Blessing says it does, since it seems I can actually check out the four items at the bottom.
Blessing of ??? This Blessing is unlike the blessing of the gods in that it doesn't simply grant a temporary effect. Rather than always being the same effect, this Blessing is instead whatever is needed for the situation, even transcending the limits of the Blessings of the gods. Gift of Life Any person with this Gift heals three times as fast, recovers their Mana three times as fast, and has a protective aura on their body at all times, with a durability equal to the sum of their Constitution and Magic, with a recovery equal to twice their Vitality. Gift of Words Any person with this Gift can understand, speak, and read all languages native to the world of Yggril, whether in current use or not. Gift of Growth Any person with this Gift learns and improves spells three times as fast and possesses a multiplicative bonus to their Experience Points of five times while halving the base amount required.
That last one catches my attention. It confirms the existence of Experience Points. Not only that, but Experience Points are just affected by growth multipliers – there are things which can reduce how much is needed.
Returning back to the first one, I reread it. The kid's Blessing always changes, it seems, while the other gods' Blessings remain static. He changes it to match the situation, I'm guessing. When he spoke to us, he said that he can't intervene too much, so he likely always adjusts things to just the right amount when he does.
Though that brings up the question of why he can't intervene much when the gods can intervene all they want – if Terrence, Silvia, and the twins are to be believed. They're actually prone to handing out Blessings – and Gifts, too.
Among the many things I was taught about yesterday, Gifts were one of them. They're a form of 'passive' ability that a person has, and they typically don't know they have it unless a god actually tells them that they do. Every god has three Gifts they can bestow upon a person. Normally, they're given at or before birth, but they can also be granted later in life.

This being's Gifts are all ridiculous. The [Gift of Growth] means that even a Tier I could become exceptionally powerful in no time.
Then there's the second Gift, the [Gift of Life]. Healing three times as fast? That means they can return to hunting three times as fast. Recovers their Mana three times as fast? That means it takes them a third of the time to cast the same spell from empty.
A protective aura? That means they can take more hits before dying. I'm sure the actual Aura Regen is sort of like Mana Regen in that it's a decimal that's one-one thousandth of the value. If not, that makes it even more absurd.
Jeez, this kid deity's Gifts are ridiculous.
Even the second one in the list, despite not seeming it. The ability to understand all languages on this world, current and dead, means that the wielder of the Gift will never be without the ability to communicate, no matter where they go. They can enter a nation on another continent and possess the ability to communicate with the residences.
Communicating clearly in a new land can make finding new beasts to hunt easier, obtaining supplies and getting discounts faster, and knowing when being scammed or lied about a translation to a breeze.
I also don't have it – I only know this particular language. I tried reading some of Silvia's books that weren't in it to see if the knowledge of this language I found myself having wasn't the only one. When I did, only the books she had in this language were ones I could understand.
Terrence seems to have given Sera the informational box about this being as proof, and she seems quite confused. I think she's looking at it.
"Can I see it?" I ask.
A few people look confused, but a request from Sera pops up asking me if I want to see the message she's sending me. I accept it and review the box that appeared.
??? Type: [Redacted] A mysterious being of immense power. ??? ??? ??? ???
So this is what they see? The only difference between us that I can think of is the fact that I'm an [Archon], but I don't think that would have changed how things are with this. Even if it did, why would it give me his Blessing, Gifts, and information, but not his name or deity type?
"I take it you see something different?" Sera asks.
"Yeah," I nod. "I can see his information and his bestowals."
I call the box up and send it to her, and Sera frowns.
"What's wrong?" I ask.
"It's showing me the exact same thing I see when I call up my own," she says. "You're being intentionally allowed to view that information, then. It must be set to only do it on your own notifications, though."
Before anything else can be said, there's a noticeable shift in the air. A moment later, a being appears only five feet from Terrence, facing him. Almost everyone here stops moving, and more than half of them kneel down, heads lowered. Terrence is among those who do.
Most of those who don't bow to the being do back up some, allowing those bowing a better view of him. Sera herself has only bowed at the waist, right arm in front of her stomach and left behind her back.
This being – a god, I can only assume – looks to be around eighteen to twenty years of age, and he's dressed in a pair of dark brown leather boots, a pair of orange-and-yellow pants, and a red tunic which he has tied around his waist.
The god's hair is a dark red – actual red, not orange or rusty like 'redheads' are – and his irises are a sort of molten orange. His skin is fair and flawless, his face youthful, his body toned and muscles well-defined, but not bulky.
Even if we used primarily earth and air magics during the fighting, I know that Terrence much prefers the element of fire. Even while training yesterday, Silvia had to remind him to work on his other elements because he wanted to focus entirely on fire magics.
Like a massive fan, he almost wouldn't stop gushing about my [Fireball] attack on our way here. He's also extremely pumped about getting to use fire almost exclusively when we go to fight the undead at the tower.
Their outfits are matched, and now I realize that Terrence isn't just showing off for me, even if seeing me check him out makes his tail wag in excitement enough I swear it's going to use air magic on its own. Terrence has slightly-modeled his appearance after this god, who must be the one he saw when he was little.
All of that information combined with the god's appearance and the absolute wagging of Terrence's tail tells me that this is the god of fire.
A god who's looking at Terrence curiously.
Most of the people here are averting their gazes as the god just stands here, and I examine him a little bit more closely as I take in his divine aura. It's not overwhelming, present just enough for me to notice it and be aware that there's a divine being here.
For a brief moment, the god frowns, his expression one of further confusion, and his gaze shifts to me. The moment he sees me, I can detect surprise in his eyes, a slight opening of his mouth which he corrects almost immediately.
With how he's reacting, he seems surprised to see me – as if he wasn't aware of my presence at all. At least, not before he came here. I doubt he didn't notice me immediately, but he was… curious about something with Terrence and wanted to examine him before turning his attention to the [Archon].
Then the god disappears, his divine presence vanishing as well.
Terrence's tail starts wagging enough I'm certain it's casting air magic with the breeze its making, and he grins at me.
"That was Aizdelin!" He exclaims. "I haven't seen him since the time I saw him when I was little! We were sitting in church, giving our prayers, when he just appeared in front of the altar and watched everyone for a few minutes! Then he vanished, as cool and incredible as the god he is!"
As Terrence starts giving me a lot of information about the god, I decide to pull up the god's information from the System. It seems that Terrence's excitement isn't an unusual thing, as there are plenty of others as excited as he is – even among full-grown adults. Many others are talking with each other about the presence and the blessing of it.
I read the notice as I try to listen in, but no one mentions the god's expressions. Maybe no one was actually looking at his face?
Aizdelin Type: Middle God One of the seven middle-rank gods, Aizdelin is one of the seven Elemental Gods of Yggril, and the youngest among his brothers. His flames exist to bring life to the world and punish evil, and so long as his blessing burns, life will persist. [Blessing of Aizdelin] [Gift of Fire] [Gift of Health] [Gift of Guts]
His Blessing and Gifts are significantly weaker than the mysterious god's are.
[Blessing of Aizdelin] doubles the strength of the blessed person's fire magics and doubles the Mana Regen given by the affinity for fire.
[Gift of Fire] grants the ability to use fire to those who don't have the affinity, though it doesn't grant them the Level-Up bonuses that the affinity grants. To those who already have the affinity for fire, it increases the potency of their fire magics by 25%.
[Gift of Health] increases one's healing rate by fifty percent, so it's a much weaker version of the bonus given by the [Gift of Life]. If a person with this is taken to a place sacred to Aizdelin, their healing rate doubles while inside.
Finally, [Gift of Guts]. This one's an interesting one, as it literally allows someone to defy death by having the guts to defy it. This doesn't mean they can keep fighting – but it does mean that they can continue to live, even in a crippled state, until they can receive healing. I'm going to assume that they have to actively fight against death for this Gift to work, which means falling unconscious while it's active will be their end.
"Alright," Sera interrupts Terrence talking about one of the supposed feats of Aizdelin. "Let's get on to discussing the payments for the wyvern. After that, you need to get those injuries taken care of."
"They're just bruises!" Terrence proclaims.
"Terrence," I indicate a large cut on his side. "You got hit by several [Air Slash]es by the wyvern. Don't forget your injuries from the air lizards, too."
"Oh, right!"
"Okay," Sera says. "So for the hide, I can offer-"
Another god shows up. It takes a few moments for everyone to get over their shock, and this time, nearly everyone bows to him. Sera once again does her formal half-bow instead of the full one, and Terrence bows to him, too.
This god looks to be around the same age as the other, his hair is platinum-blond and his eyes are a light, sea-green. His body is lean and toned as well, and he wears only a pair of blue shorts with green and white wave patterns on the bottom. Unlike Aizdelin, this god is sporting a decent tan. He's smooth and nearly-flawless, his skin marred only by a slender, three-inch-long scar on his left bicep.
I can make a guess that he's a god of water, and considering that he actually looks a little wet at the moment, it's possible he was in the water right before coming here. That, or he keeps himself soaked for an unknown reason.
Though he's pretending to look at the wyvern, I can see that he's looking at me through the corner of his eyes. Aizdelin was definitely surprised to see me, and he told the god of water about me, and the latter decided to come look.
The god of water gestures with one hand, and all of the blood of the wyvern pulls away from it, swirling around before streaming into some barrels that appear out of nowhere. He nods, satisfied, gives me another side-look, and vanishes.
"T-two…" Terrence stutters as he stands. "Two gods not just in one day, but within a couple of minutes of each other. Not only that, but two of the Elemental Gods! Today is truly a blessed day!"
Others are talking among themselves about the blessing of seeing two gods here at the same time… only for two more to appear.
Both look around the same age as the other two gods, though their appearances are once again varied.
One has pure-white hair and storm-grey eyes, with the ears and tail of a catkin – the first two gods were human in appearance. This one is dressed in a robe that has a slit at the waist on both ends, going all the way down to the end. It allows free movement, I'm guessing, and allows me to see that he's dressed in grey pants, white boots, and a white tunic underneath his robe. I can only see his face and his hands, and they're quite pale, but just as flawless as the other gods'.
As for the other, he has brown hair and eyes, flawless skin with a golden tan, and he's dressed in a brown martial arts gi, no boots. His belt is black with several grey mountains stitched onto them. He's also a wolfkin.
It's easy to guess that these are probably the gods of air and earth, respectively. Though both of them are watching the crowd, their positions allow them to observe me as well. Both do just that, too, their gazes 'passing over' me as they look around.
I'm really, really tempted to wink at them the next time they do that. Are they aware that their gazes stops for a moment when it's on me?
After they leave, Sera starts telling us about what she can offer us for the loot, though I can tell she's in shock at having four gods show up.
Only for it to turn into six when the gods of light and shadow appear, and after they leave? The god of lightning does. I only know what the latter is because I hear a few people murmuring about how rare it is to see Kezvilin, then I pull up his information from the System and it lets me know.
"All seven Elemental Gods," Sera mutters. "In under an hour. There's a huge shift about to occur and this place is probably going to be looked at as sacred land for awhile."
Then a much stronger divine presence appears, and this one doesn't try to subtly examine me.
No, this one looks directly at me.
This god looks about the same age as all the others, his hair a dark purple and eyes a beautiful lavender. He has a more slender build and is dressed in shorts and a sleeveless, along with sneakers. An outfit that doesn't belong on this world, as near as I can tell. His shorts are black and his sleeveless is dark purple, while his sneakers are primarily black with dark purple accents and laces.
A few moments after he appears, his outfit shifts, becoming pants, boots, and a tunic, all of the same design and colors as before. A few moments after that, it shifts again, becoming a robe. His outfit shifts several times before settling on the original one, though with the addition of half a dozen bracelets on each arm and a necklace around his neck. The necklace is a simple silver chain with what I'm pretty sure is an amethyst in the shape of a teardrop hanging from it.
Unlike the others, he doesn't stay here for thirty seconds or less. No, this god stands here for a full five minutes, just staring at me in curiosity.
Not only that, but there isn't a single person other than me who isn't bowing to him. Not a single one.
Just who is this god?
