chapter 19
Davain pov
MC- “32”
Upon the number being called out, a rather tall male with feline ears poking up from his head, wearing some rather heavy looking armour and carrying a large mace walked into the arena. He walked as the cheers of the crowd grew in volume, and went over to where the MC was, and shook hands with her.
MC- “Hello there, would you mind telling us a small bit about yourself?’’ she asked the man wearing the heavy armour.
Heavy armoured man- “Aye, with pleasure. I am Dariye leopard-tail, and i will be the one winning this tourney” upon hearing his bold words the crowd grew quiet.
I could tell by the aura that had surrounded the arena that a lot of people now wanted to kill him.
MC- “It looks like the other fighters have become hostile to you now. But well anyway, without further ado lets see what creatures you shall be fighting in the first round!” as she said these words she began to raise by a small amounts of wind magic, into a stand beside the royal family.
A small cage then rose from the floor. The cage then fell apart, releasing the creatures inside; from out of the cage poured 10 small green creatures.
MC- “It's grotts, ladies and gentlemen! These green creatures are fast. But unlike their older form--the orcs--these youngling still don't have their characteristic brutish strength. But how will Number 32 deal with ALL OF THEM?!”
Dariye rushed towards the grotts and swung his mace at them. He didn't manage to hit a single one of them as they were able to easily dodge out of the way. His mace only smashed into the ground, and due to the force behind his swing it got buried inside the earth. Upon seeing this, all 10 grotts jumped at him, forcing him to jump away from his mace before he could pick it back up.
MC- “Oh! Interesting, Number 32 has had himself separated from his weapon by the grotts’ superior numbers and their teamwork. What shall he do now?!”
Dariye “Come, my flames, smite them!” he yelled, shooting a flame bolt at a grott who just grabbed another of his kind and threw him into the way of the flame bolt.
The grot who was thrown into the flames screamed in pain and collapsed to the ground, dead. Dariye let out a laugh before charging at the grotts in an attempt to scare them away from his mace, but they didn't move.
As he got closer, if you looked at the face of the grots, you would see smiles on their green faces. One of the grotts picked up the mace on the ground and started to dash, dragging it towards dariye. He swung it at him.
Due to his speed and the weight of his armour he couldn't get out of the way fast enough. And even if he could, the other grotts had encircled him--blocking his path. He didn't have chance to escape.
His right leg was smashed by the mace causing him to fall onto the ground. He roared in pain, as he fell on the ground. One of the other grotts that had been encircling him came up to his head and shoved his small clawed hand at the face of Dariye; screams of pain followed. The other grotts came up too, you couldn't even see his head anymore.

Needless to say he didn't last long.
MC- “It seems like Number 32’s bold boast didn't help him much.” As she said this a few mages sent fireballs at the grotts, killing them. After they had died, wind mages used their magic to scatter the ash.
“Next challenger, Number 48!”
For the next few hours fighters went in and out of the arena. They fought against the different stages of ork development. Most made it past round 3 before retiring from the rest of the waves, but a few managed to complete wave four. Still even they didn't dare to go onto the next wave.
In every few fighters there was at least one death, every now and then. Even the few of the more experienced fighters simply said that they didn't have enough skill or practice.
MC- “Now the next fighter is Number 47!” As she said this I stood up from where I was sitting. I walked into the arena, and made my way to the MC. She stood there with a surprised look on her face.
Davian- “Hello.”
MC- “Oh wha-- yes. Would you mind telling us a bit about yourself?” She said, recovering from her blunder.
Davian- “Yes, I would actually.”
MC-’ “Oh well. Then lets start!” she said as she went back to the area beside the royal family.
A cage came up from the ground, and from inside 10 grotts came out. But this time, a few of them had crude boneshivs.
They saw me, and then began charging--towards me.
I quickly cast a lightning spell that sent small electrical impulses around my body to increase my reaction speed and my movement speed--albeit by a small scale.
I drew my sword and held it in my left, before casting more magic; a quick fireball spell to my left. As the first grott got to me I simply thrust the sword towards him catching him on the blade, but not killing him.
I threw the fireball into the group behind him, killing one of them. The one I had wounded before jumped at me, and started swinging at me with his boneshiv. I jumped back to avoid the attack, but another one of them threw his boneshiv causing it to stab into my left thigh.
Letting out a small yelp of pain I fired out one of the needles I had strapped onto my arm via lightning. I sent it straight through the head of that one grott.
The other grotts seeing I had killed two of their kinsman began to circle around me slowly. I noticed that one of them had a small strap of what seemed to be leather, and that he had a few stones in his hand.
He began to swing the leather strip around while it had a stone fixed to it. He let, flinging the stone at me. I tried to jump out of the way, but another grott rushed in. The new aggressor thrusted his shiv, making me to doubleback.
The stone smashed into the side of my head with surprising force. It made me cough out blood. One of the other grotts took the chance to drive at me with his shiv, but as he dived at me I sent a needle into his face.

Before he could get close to me, he dropped dead.
Taking the chance to jump through the gap in their encirclement, I ran out as fast as I could. This made them run after me, but I brought a fireball to my free hand and threw it at them. I hit one of them in the chest, killing him instantly.
There was now six of them; the left two of them have shivs, while the others don't--the four that didn't have shivs were forced forward by the ones with the shivs.
As they drew closer I could see the fear on their faces. Most likely, they were scared by the fact that I had killed four of their kin.
I sent three more needles, and they hit, digging into the heads. And the last one I grabbed by its small head before stabbing my sword into it chest, and dragging it out. I basically cut him into halfway into two.
I threw the halfcut-corpse of the grott at one of the shiv wielders before jumping at the other one, ramming my blade into his head. The last one I finished off with a quick slash into his throat.
During this time the entire crowd was cheering, I guessed this was mostly because they enjoyed the sight of creatures dying. The MC announced the beginning of the second round, another cage raised up onto the floor of the arena.
And another batch came out. 5 more grotts, but these grotts seemed to be slightly taller and their skin was of a darker tone of green.
MC- “The next wave seems to be alpha grotts! These are stronger and taller than a normal grotts. And generally they will be in charge of at least 20-30 grotts.”
The alpha grotts ran at me.
I kept throwing both balls of fire and needles at them. I only managed to kill two of them before they got inside striking range of me. One of them grabbed onto my left arm and tried to force me out of position, while the other two started to claw at me with their sharp claws.
I swung my sword at one clawes, managing to catch him in the neck. I killed him instantly. The other one though, the one who was swinging away at me saw the blood spewing from his kind’s neck and gave out a snarl. He jumped at me as if he wanted to try to mauling my face.
I counterattacked.
I thrust out my sword as the one on my arm stabbed his claws into my shoulder, causing me to yelp in pain. My thrust only managed to clip the alpha grott in the side of the chest, but it was enough to force him away from me.
i drew back my arm after the thrust, and began to pummel the head of the grott that was still on my arm with the pommel--using the backward motion of the draw.
The first few hit only made it hold on harder, but a few more its, and its head began to cave in. I didn't stop pummeling until it head was a red splotch in my arms. As its body fell limply, the last grott began to tremble, and curled into a ball.
I simply walked up to it and pressed my heels on its head--cracking and crushing its head.
The next two waves after this were against orks, and then high orkz. Every single one of them this time had crude bone weapons that could barely pierce my armour.
But nonetheless, I still fought against them carefully. I slowly whittle down their numbers with ranged attacks--shooting needles and fireballs--until there was two or three left. I then jumped in, taking advantage of their terrible teamwork, to make them hurt each other before finishing them off with a quick strike to the vitals.
After these two rounds I was rather tired, and had a few wounds on me, but I was confident that I would be able to fight in the next round.
MC- “He has made it past wave 4 but will he go onto the next wave?!” She roared at the crowd, causing the volume of the observers to increase explosively. She came down to me and asked; “Would like to pass the next round, or fight?”
Davain- “What do I look like? A coward? Of course I’ll fight.”
The crowd to exploded in screaming cheers once again.
The MC went back to where she was before, and motioned for the final wave to begin.
Out of the ground came a cage.
This time larger than all the previous cages. As it opened, I could see a pair of red eyes looking at me.
A roar sounded, and out came an ork at least 8 feet tall. With two large battlaxes made of what seemed to be rusted metal, and thick metal armour over his entirety. It also had spearson its back that had the heads of creatures and people it killed rammed onto them in some sort of trophy like fashion.
MC- “It isn't looking too good for our challenger, ladies and gentlemen! And why would it be? He’s up against an ork warboss. Will he survive?!’
And as she finished her commentary, this thing, the orc warboss gave out roar.
And then charged at me.

8 286A Castle in a Teacup
One might say that to anger forces beyond the ken of fragile breakable mortals is a bad idea, others might say that meddling in dark forces with little chance of gain is also a bad idea, they would both be right by on all counts but they forget to mention also how incredibly stupid combining both of those things are. Stupid people don’t last so long on the mystic side of things, normal folks who wander over to the other side have a tendency to do one of two things, either A. figure out that the best thing to do is keep their head down and not draw attention from any entity that refers to humanity as “you mortals” , or B. something horrifying happens to them. As you may have guessed I fell into the second category, mostly because I thought there was a third option. See I though there must be an option C, an option where I got to end up not as some shitty back ally wizard cowering at the chance of discovery, praying that one of my wards or spells wouldn’t be noticed by something that goes bump in the night. No I would be the one who rose above all that. I would never have to be afraid. Well I made a good attempt at it that’s for damn sure, but unfortunately for me it turns out there is not an option C. At least not for me…
