Chapter 91: Destruction of the prison and the compound (8)
The insect he was fighting was emitting the aura of low tier-2 beast, according to Reem. It should have been within his scope… But… in the end, this bug was no easy opponent at all.
Clitter! Clitter! Clitter!
The car-sized bug that was charging at him had two abnormally thick mandibles. Portion of its body was covered with thin layer of sparsely distributed hair.
These two mandibles had already cost him two inscribed spears.
This bug's defense wasn't anything special; however, its attacking speed was something else.
"Throw me another spear…!" with an intense sense of urgency, Lance called at the warriors in the formation.
"Take mine." One of the warriors shouted, while throwing his weapon to lance.
Catching the spear, Lance growled in frustration.
The lightning inscription in this spear had already exhausted most of its energy; the dancing electricity at the tip was flickering weakly, about to go off anytime.
Right now, Reem's summon was already engaged in a heated battle with two agility type bugs. One bug was emitting low tier-2 aura, while the other emitting mid tier-2 aura. It was obvious that the gazelle's situation wasn't promising at all.
Gregory was in similarly bad position, he was fighting low tier-2 bug beast.
Lance, Gregory, and the azure gazelle king were holding three sides of the formation, both facing their respective tier-2 opponents and the numerous tier-1 bugs, while everyone else was holding one side.
However, the fact that the others were facing low tier-2 bug beast as well as a sea of bugs was quite problematic…
The death toll was rising and their disadvantage was growing by the second.
"If we do not break our way through this encirclement in the next few minutes… then we're all dead meat…! But first, I have to kill this bug, before it kills me." Lance thought to himself, grimly.
Gritting his teeth, lance rotated his life energy and lunged himself like an arrow leaving its bow, toward the charging bug.
"Die..."
Firmly grabbing the spear's shaft, Lance thrust the spear forward, leaving a trail of lightning sparks behind.
The bug didn't even try to dodge, bur dashed at him with even greater speed, and bit at the incoming spear.
Shing!
Bang!
As the spear reached the bugs head, two shadows moved at lightning speed, closing at the approaching spear's head, and shattering it effortlessly.
Bzzt!
Boom!
The lighting in the spear's inscription exploded with the spear, causing lightning sparks alongside bone shreds to fly around, due to the intensity of the clash.
These two shadows were the bugs' huge mandibles.
Clitter! Clitter!
The bug didn't stop its momentum, but continued its attack at Lance, wanting to bite his head.
Growl!
Lance growled in anger, and twisted his body downward, to avoid the bug's incoming bite.
This was the third spear that shatters in his hand.
The two previous spears were made of tier-2 beats' skeletons, so they helped him greatly to hold his own against this bug, but now, the only remaining spears in the others possession were of lower quality, made of tier-1 beasts.

This caused the gap between him, who was weaponless, and the naturally armed bug to widen.
Now, he lost the ability to contend with this bug, and was no longer able to keep up with it.
Lowering his body, Lance kicked off the ground, throwing himself to the side, to avoid the closing in mandibles.
Clang!
Just as lance dodged, the two mandibles closed at the spot where his head used to be.
Thump!
Thump!
Thump!
Lance rolled over the ground thrice, to the side.
Getting up, Lance's expression underwent a drastic change…
"So fast…"
The bug had dashed over, and was already upon him, there was almost no distance between the two.
Flooding his muscles with life energy, Lance went all out.
Recovering from his startled state, and due to his martial arts experience, Lance employed an evasive move, by pushing the ground with three successive steps, while twisting his body to the side, in an awkward angle.
Clang!
The two mandibles clapped together, at the spot where Lance was used to be, producing a sound akin to metallic collision.
Throwing himself on the ground, while rolling with all his might, lance was desperately attempting to distance himself away from this bug.
However, and to his fright…!
Clang!
Clang!
Clang!
The bug gave a chase, following him nimbly while clapping its mandibles at him, in attempt to cut him in half.
Clitter! Clitther! Clitter!
Getting up and running, Lance could hear the sound of the bugs' steps on his tail, closing in closer and closer.
"I can't get away from this thing… it's too fast!"
Gritting his teeth, lance made up his mind to go into the offense.
If he couldn't safely kill this beast, then he decided to stake his life and give it his all.
Turning around, lance kicked off the ground with utter ferocity, forcing stop his momentum. Then, he kicked off the ground again, and dashed at the bug that was charging over with clapping mandibles.
Throwing himself on the ground, lance slid below the bug, attempting to attack it from a blind spot.
However, even though the bug did not expect this maneuver of his, it still had its fast reaction speed.
At once, and before lance disappear beneath the bug, away from its perception, two giant shadows clapped at him…
His eyes turning red, lance poured his life energy without any conservation, causing his muscles to swell.
"Aghhhhh…!"
Letting out a ferocious roar, he grabbed at the closing mandibles, preventing them from closing on him, and cut him in half.
"Die…!"
Boom!
Boom!
Boom!
Sensing the crushing force of the mandibles overwhelming his maximum outputting power, lance slammed his feet continuously at the joint that connected the bugs' large head to its thin torso.
He wanted to distract the bugs from killing him by forcing it to focus of defending itself.
"Die, die, die…!"
Lance kept ramming the bug from under, casing an intense tremors of air to explode under the bug.

The violent collision was causing the bug's body to jump up again and again and again… testimony of the ramming force that was barraging the bug's neck.
Clitter!
Clitter!
Clitter!
The bug kept moving its legs, and twisting its body, to increase its pressure at lance, to close its mandible at him.
Even though cracks and cracks were spreading like spider web pattern in the exoskeleton under the bugs head, neck, and torso, due to lances attacks… the bug was completely ignoring defending itself, only attempting to close its mandibles and cut him in half.
With his muscles strained to their very limits, Lance felt exasperated at the bugs' insistence to kill, even at the expense of its own life.
This action went against the creatures' instincts of 'self preservation comes first' principle that he had seen thus far.
This bug was attacking like a suicidal maniac… wanting to kill him even at all costs of losing its life…!
These bugs' actions were very abnormal, as if they were not here to get food, but to annihilate a hateful enemy at all costs.
Kicking the bugs head, Lance made use of the momentum to push himself away.
The rate at which he was inflicting damage at the bugs was lower than the rate that it was closing its mandible at him.
Lance wanted few moments to brainstorm an idea to kill this bug.
Clatter! Clatter! Clatter!
The bug charged again at him, persistently, not giving him even a moment to catch his breath.
The moment lance tried to get up, the shadow of the two mandibles was already closing on his head.
Lance felt helpless in his heart…
This bug was faster than him, and till now, he was making use of his profession experience to bridge the difference. However, this bug was apparently hell bent on claiming his life, to the point of even disregarding its own.
This persistence was eating away his life energy at a terrible rate.
At this pace, this battle was progressing toward its obvious conclusion even faster – his death.
A new variable was needed to come into play here, to even things out.
Realizing the he wasn't going to make if he tried to get up, Lance gathered his power, and kicked off the ground violently. Like a shooting missile, he was lunged up, jumping.
To his dismay however, the bug was still not out of trump cards of its own.
Spreading its almost atrophied wings which were very small comparing to its body proportions, the bug raised its head, looking at the leaping Lance.
Buzz!!
The pair of small wings flapped at a speed so fast that they left a flickering afterimage.
Boom!
A surge of air current exploded around the bug, like a hurricane, causing the bug to shoot up toward Lance.
"This…!"
Lance's pupils contracted so hard that they became like needle's head, as his heart sank.
The bug's momentum surge was completely ridiculous. He didn't expect such small wings to produce so much power.
He was now in the air, with no way to dodge the incoming mandibles.
As the bug darted up at him like an arrow leaving a bow's string, Lance could almost see himself being crushed in half.
However, all of sudden, the faint glow of light in the bug's small eyes disappeared, its wing stopped flapping. The bug no longer looked like a death machine, flying up to pick its prey, but more like an inanimate object that was thrown up, sluggishly.
Lance was now stunned, he had no idea what the bug was trying to do.
"KILL IT NOW…!"
Suddenly, from the site where the fighters were facing the bugs, an urgent bellow entered his ears.
Having heard the voice, Lance's eyes lit up in hope, as his heart thumped with joy.
This was a voice that he was waiting to hear for quite the while now.
"You damn bug, now, you DIE…!"
Letting out a furious roar of anger, lance joined both of hands and pumped his life energy wildly. He wanted to deliver the killing blow.
The bugs' wing were no longer flapping, however, the initial momentum of their movement was too great, casing the bug to rise up in the air, toward the falling Lance.
Having flooded his arms with energy, they swelled up greatly, pushing the bulging blood vessels up, as if they were a network of worms crawling under the skin.
BOOM!!
With bloodshot eyes, Lance smashed at the bugs' large head, with all of his might, causing the air between his joint hands and the bugs' head to explode outwardly, producing a visible shook-wave.
Crack!
Crush!
The destructive attack caused the exoskeleton that was covering the bugs' head to crack, and then to shatter, caving to the inside due to the immense power of the attack.
Thud!
Thud!
Falling to the ground, alongside the bugs' corpse, lance dashed back into the formation, while crushing the bugs that dared to stand in his path.
"Throw me another spear…!"
Lance shouted at one of the warriors, he was preparing to fight the tier-2 bug that was recklessly killing the warriors in the formation.
In his way, he turned and nodded with a genuine smile at the new comer, who had three vines projected from his back: "I'm glad you managed to come, and thank you!"
Seeing the man whom he had thought to be dead gave him quite the comfort.
Now, with this man's addition, their chances just went up against these tier-2 beasts.
